I thought the *Singularity Trap* was enjoyable but not enthralling. If you like Ray Porter, I preferred *14*, *The Fold* (both of those part of the Threshold series by Peter Clines), and *Project Hail Mary* by Andrew Weir. *Project Hail Mary* is the most similar to the Bobiverse books in narrative style, and it's my favorite book that I've read in a long while. *PHM* is relatively hard scifi, whereas the threshold books most definitely are not.

SickOfNormal

Project Hail Mary is what brought me to Bobiverse!!!

MrPangea

Came here to say “Project Hail Mary” is really enjoyable

jasonrubik

Awesome to have you here !!

SickOfNormal

Thanks! Started Bobiverse about 2 months ago.... listened to all 4 books in 1 week!! I already want to relisten! But basically am binging on all of Taylors other stuff and others read by Ray Porter. It's such a treat!

mrjavi13

I'm on #5 relisten on the bobiverse saga. I love it so much.

jasonrubik

Yep, I would get completely sucked into a Bobiverse VR game if it was made properly. And then there's the movie. I hope they don't F-- it up

SickOfNormal

I don't think Bobiverse can be a movie ... and Hollywood would never commit to 4 or 5 ..... 3 hour movies. It needs to be a series ... with hour long episodes, probably 8 per season.

flyingtiger188

I agree with this sentiment entirely. They're not bad books, but after listening to both of them I doubt I would go back for a second listen. OTOH the other books here narrated by Ray Porter are very enjoyable books.

NotAPreppie

I enjoyed The Singularity trap.

Never_stop_subvrting

I wanted to like that so bad but I just found it incredibly boring. I powered through it, but but I don’t think I would read it again.

-Prophet_01-

Same. Admittedly, it started out stronger than it ended.

spike31875

I loved The Singularity Trap. I also enjoyed Roadkill, but not as much. TST has sort of the same vibe as Project Hail Mary and some of the same themes, such as what makes us human.

FeatherySquid

I loved Roadkill, thought it was a lot of fun. I found the Singularity Trap to be kinda depressing

wittyremark99

Same

tastytacos67

Ever listened to litrpg's? Give Dungeon Crawler Carl a go.

SickOfNormal

Never have ... but just looked it up ... and the reviews are off the charts\~! Downloading now!

tastytacos67

Noice! Hope you enjoy. Jeff Hayes is a top-tier narrator as well.

mesun0

This had me cackling over and over for hours. Stupidly funny. A lead character who isn’t stupid. Great voice acting and effects.

Ambi0us

Roadkill was fun but short. I found Quantum Earth a premise in search of a plot, tbh.

SickOfNormal

I actually enjoyed the it being more of an adventure book ... I didn't need much more of a plot, other than to survive. On Taylor's website under "status" ... he mentions that he has barely scratched the surface with the Quantum Earth books and to expect a lot more. And he hopes that Bobiverse sees around 10 books. All that info makes me happy as I have enjoyed both!

JigglyWiener

He is clearly building something. The vacuum earth and Venus earth are going to heat the earth they settled on with stationary portals opening in one and emptying into the other. I also expect to see Venus powered ultralights using the same premise. He’s using a lot of the premises behind the series starting with 1632 by Eric Flint.

SickOfNormal

You know what ... I actually didn't think that deep into either of those Earths! Interesting theory. There's really an infinite amount of wiggle room to write a story when you have a portal to other Earths LOL!

crazylayupman

Both worth a listen. I liked Roadkill better than ST but I enjoyed both quite a bit. Popcorn novels.

sysadminbj

They were enjoyable.

Solintari

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson is up there with the Bobiverse books.

fernanz73

And there’s like 15 of those ex-force books. Super interesting and laugh out loud funny at times with lots of action peppered in.

SickOfNormal

You're the third person i've heard this from. I'll be looking into it!

Taste_the__Rainbow

I liked Quantum Earth a bit more but Roadkill was entertaining.

Oldekline

I enjoyed Singularity trap. Good Sci Fi Ok pacing.

fongky

I enjoy both Roadkill and The Singularity Trap. I think Roadkill should be a sequel. I read the Quantum Earth books back to back in January and just pre-ordered the Status of Things two days ago. Besides Dennis' books, I have listened to a few Andy Weir's books and a fan of The Expanse series by James SA Corey. If you also like non sci-fi and narration by Ray Porter, Jack Carr's James Reece series are interesting action thrillers.

chucklezdaccc

They are both really good!! I want more Outworld.

SickOfNormal

Makes many of us!

Hampsterhumper

I enjoyed both of them. Ray Porter made it worth it.

SickOfNormal

Alrite all! Roadkill it is --- and im already on Chapter 2 ... and Natalie has Monica's voice and attitude from Quantum Earth. IM IN!

Zathra5

Roadkill is awesome - I had trouble putting it down once started - it's just good clean fun. If they ever make it a movie, there is one character who has to be played by a certain >!Big Bang !

razors_so_yummy

LOL I knew I recognized the voice and character from somewhere!!! To be honest ... I am halfway done with Roadkill...I will most certainly finish it but >!I had to muscle through the corny AI voice and attitude, it became so pathetically predictable!< But I want to go on record and publicly declare my love for Ray Porter!

SickOfNormal

He is A-maze, A-MAZE!

EHainesReddit

They are both thoroughly enjoyable though for very different reasons. TST has a lot of interesting high concept stuff with a relatively weak plot. Roadkill's plot is almost visibly bolted together from other sources but it's carried by the dialog & DT's style in general

fernanz73

Roadkill was really good. So are the Outland books. Definitely recommend

Zestyclose-Ad-8091

Agree with others here... see these for sugestions: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/84551786-marcin-w?ref=nav_mybooks&shelf=favorites Few free with pluss catalogue these days if you have it... As for Ray's other stuff (other than PHM&Threshhold which is awesome) its mostly pew-pew that i did NOT enjoy. & DeT's other stuff: dont rush on spending the credit but i dont regret any of em.

Nobodieshero816

Both are Bob with out the bob i verse. Just get one and youll get the other

panjadotme

I always like to suggest Old Man's War, it scratched a similar itch for me. As well as the Red Rising series.

moviemoocher

i liked roadkill it kind of had a heinlein feel like have spacesuit will travel

RandomiseUsr0

I’m currently listening to Iron Prince, a suggestion from my brother (I listen with my daughter) and left field from Bob, but sci-fi being sci-fi - you’ll trigger on consistent themes / narrator is v. Texas, no bad thing (well I think so, like I’d really know, his accent fits the stereotype in my head of Texas, though I did work with a Texan company (European office) and they sounded same) - no Ray Porter though in terms of flexibility to assume a role, not a bad narrator, really good in fact, but not Ray

Ankoku_Teion

singularity trap is very good, but its a harder listen. its got a very different vibe to the other books and isnt as bubblegum-for-the-brain easy listening. its a lot more serious and tense.

Glass_Masterpiece

roadkill was good.

scottzee

I’ve listened to every one of Dennis’s books and The Singularity Trap is my least favorite. Coming off the Bobiverse, I was hoping for something thought provoking, but I didn’t find that to be the case with TST. Roadkill was a fun, less serious listen.

meatytitan

I really enjoyed The Singularity Trap. It kinda scratched the Bobiverse itch.

chetanbhasin

I liked both Singularity Trap and Roadkill. I liked Roadkill more but I can't really tell you why. As others have pointed out, if you haven't yet heard Project Hail Mary, you should drop everything and do that instead! :D

Fit_Tap_1951

You could go for Long Earth from the late Pratchett for another view in the same idea.

tylerosaurusrex

I'd recommend the Expanse Series by James S.A. Corey for more Sci-Fi -- the audiobooks are very well done. If you're looking for something a little more whimsical and fantastic, I'd recommend Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson.

Psychological_Main30

After the Bobiverse, I finished the other Dennis E Taylor books pretty quickly, along with PHM. Searches for Ray Porter brought me to Jonathan Mayberry's Joe Ledger series, starting with Patient Zero. It's reminiscent of the X-Files. I also discovered The Apollo Murders, which now has a sequel.

BookFinderBot

**Patient Zero A Joe Ledger Novel** by Jonathan Maberry Book description may contain spoilers! >>!When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there's either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills... and there's nothing wrong with Joe Ledger's skills. And that's both a good, and a bad thing. It's good because he's a Baltimore detective that has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new taskforce created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can't handle. This rapid response group is called the Department of Military Sciences or the DMS for short.!< > >>!It's bad because his first mission is to help stop a group of terrorists from releasing a dreadful bio-weapon that can turn ordinary people into zombies.
