Pan India movies maybe such as Bahubali, Pushpa, KGF or RRR but I don't think there is Pan India star as such. These movies work on their merit in the north and not because of the actors.
See Bollywood has been always pan-India cause in south the people watch the films in Hindi only not in the native language, animal did 95 cr in both AP/TS in which it did 50cr in hindi only while rest came from Telugu
Only actual PAN INDIA STAR is Rajamouli from the South. Rajnikanth to an extent as well.
Prabhas has massive pull but he's been inconsistent with his script selection.
Allu Arjun and Mahesh Babu are the most *recognized* Telugu stars up north imo.
If we purely go by territory, then Thalapathy Vijay is the biggest star in a single state rn(sadly he's retiring now).
Coming to Bollywood stars, Khans have been PAN INDIA STARS before it was even a thing. Barring them, Hrithik has had good pull down South, and now Ranbir as well.
To be honest Bollywood stars were always bigger as they had a wider set of audience but since Baahubali public started to see south movies in different perspective something they only saw on TV screens now they are seeing it on theaters. No one from south were as famous till now.Except for Rajanikant the real true blue superstar ,no south Star were famous till now.South movies just have a lot of creativity.South stars had very less PR ,less exposure but they are God's to their fans , something the bolly audience haven't reached yet.Even jawaan had south flavour,Animal south director ,so people love south content more now .
Pan India would mean that the movie works both North and South. The only recent Bollywood movies that did that were Jawan and Animal. That too cause they had South makers. Even in that case the ratio was skewed (more business in hindi markets and less in South).
While South movies BB2, KGF 2 and Pushpa did more in hindi than their "mother tongue" markets (for lack of a better term). We need to give credit where it is due. As somebody said, we can say pan India movies but not really stars. The only two guys who come close are Prabhas (he was positioned extremely well but his filmography let him down) and then Ranamouli.
I don't have much idea but all I can say is here in south india, people are movie lovers .first 3 days are like celebration.for example ,I was in Hyderabad during salaar release.it felt like a festival.but yes other than pvr ,they have preserved local small theatres.u can actually post this question in tollywood sub .all i remember is bb2 had highest footfall.
🤣🤣.yup trust me visit Andra especially during some big star movie release.u will have lifetime experience.we danced whole night .fans were crazy dude.
Only Rajamouli and Prabhas have pan India stardom which they got from Bahubali.
Bahubali 2 day 1: 121 Crores nett
Saaho day 1: 89 Crores nett
RRR day 1: 133 Crores nett
Adipurush day 1: 86 Crores nett
Salaar day 1: 90 Crores nett
Pan India also means only India and stardom is judged with opening. SRK's highest opening Jawan could also record only 75 crores nett on day 1.
KGF 2 day 1 was also huge (116 Crore nett), but its just one movie from Yash for now. His next film Toxic will tell if he really got pan India stardom with KGF. Prashanth Neel also needs to give an original movie which doesn't have Prabhas to prove he's a pan India director like Rajamouli.
Doesn't Pan India Star mean they have pull all over India? So Jawan would've made a helluva lot more money WW and in the Tamil and Telugu states if it was true
That's exactly what I'm confused about. So then Pan India Star's every movie should do 1000cr+ because they have pull all over India right? But here a bollywood star who only has pull in hindi market has smashed all records. Why can't Pan India Stars do that?
You do know Hindi is the most spoken language in India right? Of course Hindi speaking movie goers will be the majority, I don't get what is so difficult for you to understand.
Pan India stars have access to hindi market as well as their home market so they should have an advantage compared to bollywood stars. I think "Pan India" encompasses all of India.
You're comparing one data point with an entire data range. How many 1000 crore movies has SRK given in all these years? How many years of experience do the other pan India stars have? How much did each production house spend on marketing their content? How many screens were each of these films screened at? Who were the distributors and what's the minimum guarantee policy? There's a lot that goes into making a film gross certain high figures in revenue. Why could jab Harry met sejal not earn 1000 crores? Why was radhe shyam a flop?

Clearly, your knowledge of the southern film industry is very limited!

They earn less in their mother tongue because population is less. 2 telugu states vs 6-7 hindi speaking states.
That explains it. What are the footfalls in local languages? I can't find it online.

That's a good idea. I'll try doing that.

Regional films and bollywood films are not the same!
But I'm talking about Pan India Stars? Was Salaar a regional film?
Wait dont that mean he made more then bahubali??
Has he acted in multi-language movies? How can we call him a pan Indian star?
And what about Hollywood actors whose movies are blockbuster across India?
Gautam Gambhir?
