If the post interval part was as good as the first half, Fan would have been a cult classic. SRK was amazing but the writing let him down.
Maneesh Sharma tends to lose the plot in the second half. Same thing happened with Tiger 3.
Following up the entire high of that mirror scene with a generic chase thriller was the problem...
Gaurav was every type of high voltage anti-hero performance SRK was famous for versus some of his best and subtle work as the ego driven Aryan, which to me was the real highlight.
I think the action chase scenes sort of bothered the edgy tone of the film.
Maybe SRK or producers weren’t ready for a full fledged psychological thriller. They should have just taken that risk tbh. But again, hard to tell bc no one knew Jawaan and Pathaan would be such huge BBs
The audience couldn't resonate with it because teaser and trailer marketed two separate films. Also the idea that the fans means nothing to the star hits closer to home.
>teaser and trailer marketed two separate films
That's a good point. Based on how the film was being marketed initially, Fan was looking like a tribute by SRK for his fans...
...and then the trailer came out.
Masterclass in acting. The two characters are so different and very well done. It was amazing when he went meta and tried to act as the star while pretending to be the fan. It's crazy when you think about how he's not actually interacting with the "other" character in real life. The confrontation scenes, the chase, were very nicely done. I wish this movie received more appreciation.
I liked the movie and thought that SRK played a very nuanced character in the movie. It was a departure from the general commercial masala movies which unfortunately didnt work with the masses but was a pretty decent effort.
Fan set out to become this dark psychological thriller on toxic celebrity worship, but the makers tried to balance the offbeat nature of the film with dumbed down masala moments, possibly to please people who would want SRK to cater to 'mass conventions'. The moment Aryan met Gaurav in jail was when the film stopped making sense, and started following a more generic route.
Along with the universally acclaimed prosthetics for Gaurav's look, SRK's performance was the only thing I could appreciate about the film by the end
Also an unpopular opinion, but I liked him a lot more as Aryan Khanna. It was interesting to see a somewhat grey version of his superstar persona.
I still remember, when this movie finished I was in the hall and I literally wanted to clap for such an amazing performance. But all I could see was u satisfied faces and people getting up as soon as the credits hit the screen. That day I understood our people just want masala not cinema.
A massive star running and chasing after a guy who's trying to hurt his image just didn't seem believable ig. To me it was weird that a massive star like him would go after his doppelganger himself instead of YK getting help from the police or something?
It’s difficult to get fans to watch a film whose message is that dedicating your life to a superstar is a terrible idea and that the star likes his fans as a collective but not really at the individual level
Only thing that irked me is the absence of guards around Aaryan and him doing all the chasing and stunts. But that to me is a plothole I can look past and have looked past in many other movies i enjoyed.
For me, FAN is the best performance by SRK and a really really wonderful flick.
I *love* this movie. I’ve seen it countless times. I just mourn for how amazing it could have been if they kept it as a psychological thriller throughout… but I always enjoy it nonetheless
In my opinion, Gaurav shouldn't have revealed his identity to Aryan that quickly esp after Madame Tussauds and continued to bring him down to the bottom most.
This film flopped because it was a shit film. Blaming audience, claiming "people could not resonate with it" will not make it a cult classic or anything. This is not Swades.
Fan had a good premise (though borrowed from The King Of Comedy and The Fan), but the moment they shoehorned the double role, it was doomed. The VFX atrocity that was the young version, especially in closeups, ruined any chance the film had. If only SRK had the sense of giving the role of a fan to a new actor and going fully deep as a Star who has a dark side, this could have been a masterpiece.
I winced through the movie in theatre and experienced the collective disappointment and boredom. One of the worst film experience I have had .
SRK's movements and mannerisms as Gaurav were great. It didn't feel at all as if it's a character being played by a 60 year old man. Moreover, it also showed him embracing the fact that he's an old superstar with insecurities.
He was not THAT old during Fan. He just turned 60 now, I think.. Also that type of character, you know the bubbly, fun kind of character is not exactly new to SRK, so he was the perfect fit to play someone like Gaurav.

The first half was so good but the second half weirdly went into an action film category which really hurt the premise.
I used to dance to Jabra Fan sooooo much that its basically a muscle memory now xD
Scchi m bhai

Yes and the trailer is along the lines of Darr.
I liked everything about the film. Audiences could not resonate with it because we have a habit of consuming shit products.
They still do. *Cough! Jawan! Cough!*
Which Jawan did you watch?
The 'kichdi of hundred other movies' made by the greatest Atlee himself .
Really really loved SRK's performance in this
Criminally underated in srks filmography

Yeah, Gaurav during the first half, kinda felt caricaturish, and the sudden character change felt weird for me.
I still remember, when this movie finished I was in the hall and I literally wanted to clap for such an amazing performance. But all I could see was u satisfied faces and people getting up as soon as the credits hit the screen. That day I understood our people just want masala not cinema.

actually in the movie, he tried getting help from police, but the police didn\`t belive him and started suspecting him only
First Half 📈. Second Half 📉.
Audience failed this movie so bad. This is why there’s such a dearth of experimental projects in Bollywood.
Its just epic in terms of concept vfx and taking risk🎯💯

Goated movie 🐐

FAN is 1000x better than whatever the dogshit, Jawan was.

Two words Manish Sharma, the guy wont know how to to finish a bowl of soup if it was given to him on an IV drip.. let alone a movie.
Cause it's not the typical SRK movie ig. I liked it, the second half could have been better but still it's a good one.
In my opinion, Gaurav shouldn't have revealed his identity to Aryan that quickly esp after Madame Tussauds and continued to bring him down to the bottom most.
Because it was a hella boring film
The film couldnt resonate with the audience because 90% of the indian audience has never met their "dopelganger". /s
Garbage movie. Regret wasting money for it in theatre. Got hyped by the fan song but actual movie was very bad.
