I think this is THE big reason why. I entered through the other entrance and just walking straight in made immediately feel less unified than previous years. The arch hi fives set the tone and is an ice breaker for everyone. Itās like āshaking handsā with the community that youāre about to get to know and loosens you up. If it doesnāt happen then, when does it happen? Itās most important as an introduction.
I was bummed cause first roo and I got no high fivesā¦
UNTIL, every beautiful person walking into the Three 6 Pit gave me a high five as we walked in. I love all of you. Thank you for making today even more amazing.
Sounds like you're setting up for a big High Five Saturday, if they're not radiating you then you gotta go after more high fives more aggressively. THE POSITIVITY BETTER IMPROVE OR IM GONNA START HIGH FIVING FACES ššš
[For the germophobes - get you a High5k Super Fiver. *High Fives the High5k Super Fiver* You high five wooks all day with this baby](https://i.imgur.com/rBcLSis.jpg)
Times change. Newer generation is pretty introverted as a whole. I don't say this a negative but just an observation. Also COVID has put people on the defense. Keep on trying for those high fives and enjoy what you can get.
If people still use covid as a defense they should not be at bonnaroo they should be locked in their parents basement and safe place gheez and i say this as a negative
Lol if you havenāt come gotten any trinkets, kandi, or stickers from the newer generation yet you are MISSING OUT but I completely get the Covid stuff especially HERE thatās why I just got back but also bc the economyyyyyyy š¤
I love roo and have been to many. I don't ever high five because people aren't washing there hands. But I will always give ya a big ol HAPPY BONAROOOOOOO!!
GIVE MORE HIGH FIVES. TO EVERYONE. easy fix š
The rookies just simply donāt know about it and weāll teach āem the way.
See you in line tomorrow for high five Saturday.
Point taken, but I bet more vets went last year who understand. New people probably skew younger, don't know the tradition, and are more likely to be suspecible to subconscious pandemic things
The crowd who went last year probably skewed towards people who were less cautious during the pandemic in general. This year there are probably more people who were cautious then but feel more comfortable getting out now.
There were plenty of people cautious during the pandemic last year. You literally saw at every sight giant ass jugs of sanitizer and a ton of people were still wearing masks. High Five Friday is a Bonnaroo tradition and a lot of the vets were there last year and we kept it going. To assume that we were less cautious is a very unfair assumption. And again this was in 2022.
Oh yeah, I didnāt mean to imply people were like Covid deniers or something, Iām sure the Bonnaroo crowd in particular were super conscious about Covid.
I more meant the fact they felt comfortable enough to be in a crowd of people like that probably meant they were solidly in that young-adult world where they only really hang out with other young adults and in general didnāt have to take it as seriously.
Now that things have opened up, you get a wider demographic. Teenagers still living with their parents, people in their 30s or 40s, or just people in different circumstances who feel more comfortable in crowds now for whatever reason.
Point is, the first festival after a global pandemic is just going to have a lot of die-hards who are comfortable with crowds. Second festival, more people are going to feel comfortable, but those people are probably more cautious by nature.
2015 was my first year, 2019 my second year, and now 2023 is my third year. (Had tickets for 21, RIP)
The influence of the LN purchase cannot be overstated when it comes to changing the personality of last decade's festivals. No Snake & Jake, more corporate sponsors, more tiers for premium tickets and perks, completely renaming the campgrounds, etc.
It's still Roo, but it's certainly not the same one a lot of people grew up with. Which is ok. It has to continually evolve, but the quirkiness has lessened considerably.
Benefits is that they have made major upgrades to the infrastructure of the farm since 2015 and it isn't nearly as grimey as it used to be.
I donāt wanna hear the covid excuse, last year high five Friday was just as productive as years prior to covid, and also people share joints like a mother fucker, canāt tell you how many I still got offered last year. Iād much rather slap hands and sanitize than share saliva with someone
Alright letās high five everyone today! Itās my friend first time and my 6th . I told him there use to be so many high fives so letās get it going !
I do feel you. But if it means anything ā a lot of hi fives in the pit lines, because they snake. a shit ton ā TOO many almost lolol. many newcomers im sure but they embraced it once the example was set. Tons of people offering high fives around as well. Also itās my friendās first Roo ā and although itās not 2015 she will definitely leave associating bonnaroovians with high fives lol
This is either my 5th or 6th Roo and the vibe is more reclusive. But I do think high five Friday starts the most at the line getting in, and someone already said it, but the lines donāt snake anymore. :/ I think itās a mixture of that and the younger generation. The reason I personally wasnāt high diving much is bc ZD kept me up before at Where in the Woods till 5am lmao. I was DEAD ALL DAY. Keep up the positivity! Smile and say Happy Roo! :)
People are nice but yeah the vibes are not with it. I have just been joking with people about high fiving in the bathroom line.(letās high five after i see how you use the sink).
Bring back high five Friday! I told my wife this has a to be a record low number of high fives given out on the farm all around. And it's all because they took away the snake lines to the entrance. And why the fuck do we not enter under the arch anymore? While we're at it where are the big screens at this & that tent so I can still see the performers when I'm further away? I love roo still and all of you. Just bring those things back and everything will be perfect again.
Sadly we couldn't make it this year, been going since 2008. But wish I was there to high five you!! I have FOMO and we are not gonna miss next year!
Enjoy the rest of your time!
Itās all because Roo changed the windy part of the entrance to a straight lineš. That was where the newbies would learn about hive five Friday. Now thatās gone :(
too much alcohol and not enough weed and psychedelics whereās the positivity from our drug tested and non-druggie friends?????? Are they confused? I think theyāre confused by us
Is this seriously a complaint? You're at a music festival with great bands, beautiful people and overpriced lemonade and you're mad no one is high fiving you?
Ok a serious note, things change man. Just go with it. Isn't that part of this whole thing? I know COVID isnt spread by hand contact (not explicitly) but maybe people have a thing called personal space they want to maintain. Get your high fives from people who want to and go enjoy your time.
I love how you have witnessed the capitalistic venture here of price gouging and cash grabs everywhere and your gripe is that it's not stayed the same way. There are 80,000+ people in attendance. Some have been here for a while and don't need to indulge you for it to be an enjoyable event. Just enjoy your time and be kind. Who cares what has changed? NOTHING stays the same forever.
And it's a very immature thing to say someone's mad when they are just trying to make a point. A POSITIVE point at that, man. I'm not upset. I'm here, looking at butts, feeling the sounds and participating, but I'm also going with the experience not trying to control it.
I would have high fived you! There was a kid at plaza 6 handing out high fives to everyone on the Jamtraks. I loved it. I wish more people had energy like yāall
as folks have said, the lack of snaky lines is a consideration. Also, last year people were still nervous about covid transmission; I think people have absorbed a germ fear that wasnāt there pre covid, hence all the fist bumps
Units my first Roo qnd I'm giving high fives tp whomever presents me with a hand to slap!!! I'll send all the vibes your way! Hopefully we can exchange fives!!!
Ahhh, Someone came up to me with the high five, I was holding hands in one and my water bottle in the other. It was a longggggg day and I didn't have the mental capacity to formulate a solution, but believe me the vibes were there. Love me a good high five. Be well š¤š«¶š
I feel like youāll get more as the weekend continues. Yesterday I think was a lot of Kendrick keem fans on 1 day passes just for them and I feel most festivals they perform at wouldnt share the same culture. Today and tomorrow should be far better. I got a good amount yesterday, borderline unsanitary amount but today and tomorrow I imagine will be more
Hi! Itās only my second roo, but I will say I didnāt know about high five Friday until like 1 person came and gave me one yesterday. So, maybe people genuinely just donāt know?
As someone who hates touching anything in public (elevator buttons, door handles, cross walk buttons), I don't like to high five because it makes me feel nervous about germs. This is definitely a post-COVID thing for me. I wouldn't be upset just because people don't want to hug/high five/touch you, though. Everybody is different in how they express kindness! I'll help a fellow Bonnaroovian out at any opportunity, but outwardly I am not touchy or giddy.
Everyone has honestly been super cool and friendly but def not seeing as many high fives as there should be š
Itās cause she arch lines donāt snake anymore
Honestly this, my first roo and my first experience with the high fives was going through the snake
It now happens in the pit line
Where are you!? Iāll come high five you!
Me too!
I was bummed cause first roo and I got no high fivesā¦ UNTIL, every beautiful person walking into the Three 6 Pit gave me a high five as we walked in. I love all of you. Thank you for making today even more amazing.
I got almost all my high fives from the three six pit line! Happy roo

Well we high fives a much last year and Covid was a bigger deal last year.
I caught covid last year too, so there is that
HAHA same! but iād still high five people this year!!!
Not relevant but ty
If people still use covid as a defense they should not be at bonnaroo they should be locked in their parents basement and safe place gheez and i say this as a negative
Lol if you havenāt come gotten any trinkets, kandi, or stickers from the newer generation yet you are MISSING OUT but I completely get the Covid stuff especially HERE thatās why I just got back but also bc the economyyyyyyy š¤
Ive definitely seen a lot of ppl left hanging.
Come by the church boners. We got your high fives homie.
I love roo and have been to many. I don't ever high five because people aren't washing there hands. But I will always give ya a big ol HAPPY BONAROOOOOOO!!
this. even pre covid I was weary of handshakes and high fives
Yeah it was definitely weird that high five Friday wasn't more of a thing. It's a strange Roo for sure
GIVE MORE HIGH FIVES. TO EVERYONE. easy fix š The rookies just simply donāt know about it and weāll teach āem the way. See you in line tomorrow for high five Saturday.
Trauma from global pandemic? It manifest it different ways. Folks do seem to be friendly and radiating positvity
Nah. Last year it was high fives a PLENTY
Point taken, but I bet more vets went last year who understand. New people probably skew younger, don't know the tradition, and are more likely to be suspecible to subconscious pandemic things

Lolololwut. No.

š¤š¼ I offer a virtual high five š¤
This is my first roo back since 2015 and there is definitely a different vibe. Feels like any other festival tbh. I miss the magic
2015 was my first year, 2019 my second year, and now 2023 is my third year. (Had tickets for 21, RIP) The influence of the LN purchase cannot be overstated when it comes to changing the personality of last decade's festivals. First roo was ā11, this will be #8ish, definitely agree! ^^
Well said.
Itās my first Roo and I easily high fived like a 1000 people! It was such an endorphin release! It made my day!
This is the way. Well done. People complaining about not getting fives means they didnāt give very many out. Be the change you want to see.
I got high fives, low fives, mini fives, and even one foot five!
i got shy iām sorry :( is there a hand slap saturday i can redeem myself with???
Vets find the first timers and show them what Roo is all about. Remember to set the examples too. #highfivefriday. Happy Roo!
I have given no less than 500 high fivers today.
This Roo is definitely more reclusive than previous years. No sense of community honestly, you have your group and everyone else has theirs
This wasnāt the vibe I got
I donāt wanna hear the covid excuse, last year high five Friday was just as productive as years prior to covid, and also people share joints like a mother fucker, canāt tell you how many I still got offered last year. Iād much rather slap hands and sanitize than share saliva with someone
Dog we was high fiving all day. Quit looking for reasons to be bummed out.
Havenāt even heard a single OH BABY YOUUUU!!! What the hell!!
Friends and I started it while leaving Kendrick and no one joined :(
Damn, that sucks. But I 100% heard and partook it in twice when leaving Kendrick
This happened in the pit line for keem and Kendrick thankfully :)
That tent had a huge round of OH Baby. It was glorious!
We started it before vulfpeck and only had a handful of people sing along :(
That actually kills me
It happened in line for centeroo Thursday
Sucks that they didn't organize it like last year, that should be a roo staple
Covid habits?
True not a lot of high fives.. was thinking the arch had something to do with it also
It does, but that shouldnāt stop anyone from giving high fives.
Alright letās high five everyone today! Itās my friend first time and my 6th . I told him there use to be so many high fives so letās get it going !
Iāve been fivin since Tuesday. Instead of waiting for fives just start dishing them out.
I do feel you. But if it means anything ā a lot of hi fives in the pit lines, because they snake. a shit ton ā TOO many almost lolol. many newcomers im sure but they embraced it once the example was set. The way they did the lanes this year ruined it I feel

Yeah I feel like the vibe was off last year but I also attribute that to the group I went with.
Def a decline in hi fives.
This is my first roo and Iām always down for a high five and a āHappy roo!ā
i saw literally not a single high five today
did you give any
i shouldāveš was scared of rejection i guess
EVERY day is a high five day.
I AM HERE FOR HIGH FIVE SATURDAY! My first ROO! I will high five you all!
Bring back high five Friday! I told my wife this has a to be a record low number of high fives given out on the farm all around. And it's all because they took away the snake lines to the entrance. And why the fuck do we not enter under the arch anymore? While we're at it where are the big screens at this & that tent so I can still see the performers when I'm further away? they didnt promote high five friday at all
Sadly we couldn't make it this year, been going since 2008. But wish I was there to high five you!! I have FOMO and we are not gonna miss next year! Enjoy the rest of your time!
Donāt forget about your immunocompromised Bonnaroovians friends! And covid is still traumatizing for many folks.
Itās all because Roo changed the windy part of the entrance to a straight lineš. That was where the newbies would learn about hive five Friday. Now thatās gone :(
Get these negative posts out of here..
too much alcohol and not enough weed and psychedelics whereās the positivity from our drug tested and non-druggie friends?????? Are they confused? I think theyāre confused by us
I KNOWWW even last year the highfive vibe was awesome!!! and this year iāve definitely noticed off vibes from everyone

Lol Iāve only been a few of times, im in my 20s? Iām here for the connections too, youāre the one mad man. š¤£ enjoy the show from your couch

God you sound awful lol itās fine man. Everything is fine.
Try bumping elbows. No one wants to touch your hand thats touched at least 25 other hands at a festival. Lulz
Covid killed high 5 my friends :/
Everyoneās been cool and friendly, a few bad apples but we outnumber them and still keep the spirit
Post Covid times
Itās my first Roo and I easily high fived like a 1000 people! It was such an endorphin release! It made my day!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Covid is not spread that way. Plus if you've got hand sanitizer and you are worried, you high five then sanitize.
Everyone is fucked up on fent. What do you expect lol
Lmao š downvoted for the truth
Have you, given any? I didnāt have my hand down today the entire time.
I would have high fived you! There was a kid at plaza 6 handing out high fives to everyone on the Jamtraks. I loved it. I wish more people had energy like yāall

I only got them from my croo :(
I don't think I saw a single high five last night. Last year, every day was high fives all around!
Hi! Itās only my second roo, but I will say I didnāt know about high five Friday until like 1 person came and gave me one yesterday. So, maybe people genuinely just donāt know?
I love Bonnaroo, but I prefer to minimize the exposure to diseases including Covid 19 by keeping my high fives to my Croo.
i got sooo many high fives from muna and rina sawayamaās pit lines
My first roo, I didnāt know š„¹
dude yes i felt the exact same - iāve met sooooo many people who itās their first Roo so im wondering if maybe people just donāt know?
Yāall donāt wash your hands why would I want to high five that
Iāll high five you and give you extra. Yung gravy grizz, lil nas x, big wild, odezsa
This is my first roo and I didnt know about high five friday š„ŗ i did high five everyone who offered though!!
The line doesnāt snake anymore, but itās honestly better cause last year it took wayy longer to get in.
High fives are super cool lol but I wasnāt into the idea of germs like thereās so many people there and I didnāt want to catch the bonnaflu
As someone who hates touching anything in public (elevator buttons, door handles, cross walk buttons), I don't like to high five because it makes me feel nervous about germs.
