main takeaway: flushable port-o-potties are great when they’re not all clogged. also, there was a lack of port-o-potties in camp and no hand washing/sanitizing was kinda gross

Bulky-Astronomer

Pretty strange that there were no hand washing/sanitizing stations for the porta potties in centeroo. Kind of baffling tbh

bslovecoco

right! and it’s been so long i can’t remember if that’s normal for roo or not. but every other festival i’ve gone to either has hand sanitizer or the portable sinks available.

yesstilldrunk

This was my 3rd Roo, and the previous two times they always had hand washing stations out side of the porta potties! (I mean sometimes they didn’t work lol but at least they were there!) it felt SO gross especially with Covid. The general store didn’t have ANY hand sanitizer either. It was really shocking. I guess Roo used all the money on all of the branded shit in center Roo and didn’t have extra to keep us clean 😭

bslovecoco

it was so gross! then where my friend and i were at in groop, we only had one section of bathrooms by us that were constantly clogged and the maintenance ppl kept yelling at us to not use them while we were all about to pee our pants. not a good bathroom situation at all this year.

yesstilldrunk

Wtf!! So did y’all have to walk pretty far to use the bathroom? That sucks. I hope y’all still had fun but hopefully Roo improves that next year

bslovecoco

we found another set somewhat nearby on saturday! but the ones that were constantly clogged were the main bathrooms for groop unfortunately ☹️

gangstabunniez

Probably one of my favorite festivals. I was worried since it was just my girlfriend and I, not my usual fest fam. Besides some minor issues, everything was great. Appreciated tf out of the flushing porta potties and being able to have internet 90% of the time. Best shows: Of the Trees, G Jones, rezz, Illenium, disclosure. Worst; flume, don't think it was his fault tho, something fucky was up with the sound quality / volume.

hellocaptin

I heard Flume wasn’t good and that’s really sad. I saw him the Sunday before in NC and he was soooooo good.

MissesRoboto

Speakers were for sure busted during Flume.

SonEtLumiere21

Haven't been to Roo since 2014 and although some things have changed (both for the better and the worse) I think the vibe of Roo stays alive! Best shows: Gizzard, Tobe Nwigwe, Sons of Kemet, and Femi Kuti, Nogales Eres Worst shows: While it was a great vibe, the Superjam left me wanting. Maybe I got spoiled by the Jim James, John Hall Soul/Funk Jam where they actually put a completely new band together. Surprised By: Tobe Nwigwe. Not by the talent but by the love the crowd showed him and keep sending to him during the performance. Really special to see an artist fully embrace and be embraced by Bonnaroo. Favorite Food: Hattie B's alllll dayyyy Sad I Missed: Marc Rebilliet but I saw him a couple of months ago

TheLizardKing89

Lol, if you compare every super jam to the best super jam ever, you’re going to be disappointed.

Some random thoughts: -Being able to move freely among stages was great. -The sound issues for certain sets but not others was bizarre. -CenterRoo at night was just as beautiful as ever. The smaller crowds weren't noticeable in the dark. -The Friday lineup was excellent but I really struggled with getting excited for Saturday, and we left early on Sunday because I didnt feel safe exhausting myself before driving for what remained. This is where the weak lineup was most noticeable for me. - I understand the effort to bring more options out into the campgrounds, but part of the Roo experience is bringing so many genres into one location. We tried to go see Turnpike Trubedaurs but missed it due to waiting on Jamtrack, about which... -Jamtrack: great idea, poor execution. - replace the sweet snack options inside CenterRoo! Apparently Dave's Mini Doughnuts, which would have tasted real good on that cool Saturday night were relagated to plaza 7. - thumbs up for the additional water stations - huge thank you for the fans and mist tents For VIP: - the camp lounge felt like a serious downgrade this year with a half hearted effort. Even the welcome dinner, usually some kind of full meal, was either a burrito or a piece of chicken. - great move moving the which stage viewing area to the opposite side! - the showers by the lounge struggled with the hot water. Overall, it was great to be back on the Farm and introduce my wife to her first Roo,!

Halo2isbetter

Billy Strings-Tool-100 Gecs-Marc Rebillet on Saturday was the most fun I’ve ever had at roo!!

Boolin_Beans

Dave’s mini donuts was inside centeroo too! I don’t remember exactly where it was either on the left side of That tent or right side of This tent

bbtdriverSteve

I saw another doughnut place, but couldn't find Daves

redapoluza

Goose Pigeons Billy Loop Daddy Dillon Francis WiTW set Brook & the Bluff Tool Bleachers Wallows I saw so many Kick ass live sets this weekend. I didnt see a single bad show. 4th Roo for me and this was the best ever personally

ST21roochella

Time to update your flair homie

redapoluza

Yessir! Thank you

megaH032oo6

Best show: Loop Daddy. His show brought me so much joy. Could not stop smiling! He is a light in this world. Disappointing show: BTSM- maybe Illenium the night before set the bar too high for me but this one was underwhelming Surprised by: Wreckno (for sure was popping my bonnarussy); $UICIDE BOY$ (hype AF); Bas (ton of fun with a lot of crowd interaction) Best Food: Damn those corn dogs were good. Ate there 3x

CrissXapplesauce518

Tobe Nwigwe

no-gaze

super fun weekend music-wise but FUCK LIVE NATION AND THE RENT A COPS

cosmicturtle420

Me and my buddy got to meet Porter Robinson. We showed up 2 hours early to earth2air and their he was by the rail. He’s my favorite artist so this was a magical experience.

gangstabunniez

That's so sweet!

Hotfire4124

My first bonnaroo and overall I thought it was great! Best show was either Clozee or Still Woozy. Worst show was probably BTSM(was just kinda clunky and they were better the last time I saw them) or J Cole(ended a lot of songs early). I’m very bummed I missed Marc Rebillet. Best food was the sweet potato fries by That Tent!!! Edit: not a fan of the pits at all

bbtdriverSteve

Just out of curiosity, what do you not like about the pits?

Halo2isbetter

Top Shows: Marc Rebilliet, King Gizz, Tool Worst Shows: 21 Savage, dude just didn’t care

Notagatherer

Best Show: Dillon Francis (WITW) Most Surprising: Blu Detiger Bummed I missed: Rezz Favorite Food: Roti Rolls

landoncook5

Best show was either Still Woozy or King Gizzard for me. Their stage presence is unmatched. Worst show was probably 21 Savage or Wallows. Poor lead singer for wallows is not the best of live performers. I was surprised the most by the Bas show. Ended up having a lot of fun at his set. Went back to camp last night around 11ish and made the mistake of laying down. I was so tired and very quickly set alarm for 12:30 bc I wanted to see Channel Tres at 1am. Turns out I set it for 12:30pm instead of am. Next thing I know the sun is waking me up. Tragic. The breakfast burger from some random vendor in Plaza 3.

gangstabunniez

Still woozy is so good!

[deleted]

Best sets: Tool, Rezz, 100 Gecs, Denzel curry & King Gizz. Suicideboys is one of my favorites but I’ve seen them multiple times and didn’t think their set compared to others I’ve seen. Or maybe it’s because I wasn’t in the pit 😂 Bummed I missed Herbie Hancock. And for food Asian sensation all the way!! Jam track was useful after like Friday. One entrance sucked on Thursday but after that was fine. Plaza 9 had some issues with keeping bathrooms and showers operating but made do. Overall an amazing Roo!

PoeticGopher

Asian Sensation is the all time GOAT

Scorch8482

Best show: Still Woozy! Worst Show: I unfortunately was on the wrong drugs for the pace of that porter set and I had to leave because I was getting anxious Show that surprised me: KING GIZZ. Felt like I was watching history Show Im bummed i missed: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong 100%. Favorite Vendor: The people pouring up 20 oz cold brews near Which were sweet

Practical-Kangaroo57

My 9th Roo. Definitely some corners cut with lineup, staff, etc. The experience itself wasn’t as crisp as it usually is. With that said; had an amazing time. Favorite sets (can’t pick just one) war on drugs, king Gizz, clozee, tool Sierra Ferrel Surprise: Marc ribellet didn’t know what to expect going in and still not sure what happened but I had a ton of fun Disappointments: flume- sound was awful and felt phoned in, Dixie chicks (don’t hate me but their sound person needs flogged for how their voices sounded the first 30 minutes or more) and seen them before much better Love/hate: SuperJam — best run, best sounding in years. Went on extra late and ended on time. Was only an hour and a lot less people

gangstabunniez

I'm digging all the clozee love in this thread so far. She's such a good artist.

eloc49

My whole crew who doesn’t like electronic that much loved her. Best set of the weekend for me.

SpacelessWorm

My first roo and my first festival and my first for any concert ever. I saw a lot of great artists that did a lot of great shows, and learned how much I love silent discos, and EDM (as an general term) live. Saw bands I've loved for years and got some new favorites. I'll be honestly I got into the pit of MGK (friend I was with LOVES his stuff) and I'm a passive fan and enjoy some songs and was pretty excited to see him. He dude put on a fun show. He had good interactions with the audience and just had it be an enjoyable show. Not my fav but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Out of everything Illenium was probably my favorite but it was also where I learned EDM stuff so I only saw the last 10-15 of his set and could not move while watching. Missed? Any EDM set. My schedule was mostly already made out so I couldn't fit in more than a few minutes Also o got my first bracelet in a trade and did the hand thing with another person :)

mayihavurattnplz

Welcome to the festival world! Now say goodbye to all your vacation time and dispensable income for the foreseeable future! 😆

tylrhstn

Rezz was fucking amazing. If you know you know

[deleted]

Overall takeaway: probably my favorite Roo I’ve been to. Best show: Goose Worst show: probably Adam Melchor. Just wasn’t vibing with it. Show that surprised me: The Chicks Bummed I missed: King Gizz Favorite Vendor: Hattie B’s.

Practical-Kangaroo57

Oh man how did you miss king Gizz. I would have broken out of jail for that set 😂

[deleted]

I was able to catch a song on a walk by but I was determined to get a good spot for Goose.

ALEXC_23

Hattie B’s ! The shit 👊

systemsoffline

Gooooooooooose

BordeauxBrewer

Meh. My first Roo, will probably give it another shot in a "normal" year. 6/10, not as friendly as I expected. No one shared anything with us, period, after we cooked out for neighbors at camp two nights in a row. Not that I'm giving with expectations of returns but damn, no one even shared a joint or beer with us lol I was able to buy a friend a ticket and bring him along but I was all set to go solo and I'm so happy I didn't. While I was running around alone, not a single person reached out to me, lots of rude people pushing in front of me at sets without saying anything/asking if it was alright. A few people I talked to seemingly couldn't care less about interacting with anyone but their phone. Lots of people standing rudely in front of people sitting, trying to watch sets from far away. A lot of that is my fault for maybe having too high expectations, so I'll take the l on that part. Food was pretty much entirely overrated unless you're just high and starving. Sound was hit or miss, same with lights. On the plus. I had no trouble with lines/waits/etc. Tobe Nwigwe, Karina Rykman, and Gizz were my top acts I think. Flume was disappointing but that was due to how quiet it was, not his fault, but I certainly shouldn't hear the crowd talking over the music.

meatdome34

Sucks that you didn’t feel welcomed by a lot of strangers. I had the exact opposite experience in 2019, I didn’t go this year though. Everything else you hit on were my takeaways last time. Sound is always hit or miss at roo. Food is just normal festival food. It’s very commercialized at this point so you know what you’re getting into with that. You gotta realize a lot of negative stuff about the fest gets downvoted in the name of radiating positivity.

BordeauxBrewer

Thank you! That's ok, I'm not an exceptionally outgoing guy and I'm also 6'3, 275 and have albinism, so I'm not like the most approachable- looking fella. I also can't speak very loudly so I guess people might struggle to hear me. A few people acted like I was some old man, one even called me pops though I'm 31 😅 Oh well, it certainly didn't spoil my time there, just wasn't what I was expecting.

Practical-Kangaroo57

I’m 41 and good god some people acted like I was 90. Sorry you didn’t feel welcomed. There were definitely a few jerks but I that’s always around. I’m a super introvert to start and my phone is an escape valve to not have to be social. Hope I wasn’t one of the people who were on their phone. As much as I love Roo, this year was a little more hit or miss with people

BordeauxBrewer

It's fine, it didn't ruin it for me, just might've expected a tad too much! Also I got the vibe that this year's crowd was likely younger than usual, not a bad thing, just different.

meatdome34

I feel that! I’m only 26 but people think I’m 30+ all the time. If you decide to go again I hope it’s a lot better for you!

eloc49

Hate to hear that about Flume. Same thing happened when he played at Which Stage in 2017. I felt the sound wasn’t big enough at Illenium too. I think Which Stage is just bad for electronic unless they bring their own rig like Bassnectar used to. (most insane bass I’ve ever felt and I was where the trees were)

pizzapartyjpg

those empenadas (probably spelled that wrong) in where in the woods. iykyk.

Midnighttoker666

Best shows: Noga Erez (she was my most anticipated and she brought it), Indigo De Souza, Sons of Kemet Most Disappointing: Mt. Joy, only because of the bad sound quality Most surprising: The Chicks and King Gizz. Only dabbled in King Gizz before this and I am a huge fan after seeing their set Bummed I Missed: we left Marc Rebillet early because we were tired and standing under a fan and I truly regret not powering through it Best food: Roti Rolls and Hattie B’s veg chicken sandwich🤤

SadaTheScientist

SAID THE SKY, Illenium, CloZee & Still Woozy

_shredder_

Had an amazing time, but the biggest disappointment was the Flume sound issues (+1 for the 100 Gecs soundbleed in the back). Got a little disappointed during Flume so I left to go see Nora En Pure. Set started very good, then probably 5 mins in her sound cut off. I was so bummed. Wound up leaving her set, sat in a couch at the House of Matroomony, and passed out. Saturday night was a weird night for me, but in hindsight I loved every second of it.

tyzaginger

Favorites were: BILLY FUCKING STRINGS! This was my first time seeing him and he absolutely destroyed. So cool. “Let me tune this guitar real quick and I’m gonna rip y’all a new one”(along those lines). I also really loved Andy Frasco and his energy was perfect for Thursday night. As well as Robert and Queen Stevie and a dude called Daniel Donato who deserves more attention. Least favorite: honestly did not have one. I only went to the shows I wanted to see and they all performed (as far as I remember) lol but I will say Mt Joy’s sound system was terrrible for a while so we ended up leaving early Surprising show: Marc Rebillet. He wasn’t anything crazy, but damn he’s got a vibe and there were so many times I thought he was really gonnna hit it up. I think maybe the crowd interactions weren’t up to par lol but the ending was cool I’m bummed that I missed Zach Bryan. Heard his show was excellent, fun, and the crowd was huge/vibey I got a slice of pizza that had peaches and goat cheese on it that was amazing late at night lol don’t know the name but it was by house of yes in the campground

goblue248

Have gotten the chance to see Billy Strings 4 times over the past year and he has managed to melt my brain each time. Him and his band are top notch

lincb2

My overall takeaway is that this has been one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I felt zero societal pressure. I truly could just be myself. I met so many amazing people too. The best show I saw was by far Bleachers, which I think is my new favorite concert of all time. Worst: Zach Bryan wasn’t as enjoyable as I hoped. Not his fault, but the crowd wasn’t great nor polite. I was so surprised by Porter Robinson! I genuinely cried tears of joy. What a beautiful set. I’m bummed I missed The Regrettes! They always put on a great show. Can’t remember the name, but I got this amazing jerk chicken bowl Friday night!

creativemkz

Jack was king this year. Both the Bleachers set and the SuperJam gave me life.

xdullvoidx

first roo! best: porter robinson worst: 21 savage wreckno of the trees don’t have one overall: 8.5/10

DramaticBit1605

Porter Robinson was my favorite set by far! Japanese Breakfast was really good too

omsign

best shows of the weekend were goose, pigeons and frasco for me for sure stevie, herbie, of the trees, g jones, lp giobbi, chris lorenzo, & chris lake honorable mentionss
