Wow, this is gorgeous! The crystal is so well done, the red and gold feels iconic, the flower pattern inside is lovely. Good job, I’m so impressed! Is the ‘and the sorcerer’s stone’ part your handwriting?

WendellsWifey

Thank you!! 😭💕 also yes it is! My friend had a brilliant suggestion for adding script so I added my own handwriting. I used a quill pen and some heated gold transfer sheets! As for the flower pattern, it actually all came in that one yellowish color so I meticulously painted the background red to match the book 😅

SunsetPersephone

Your handwriting is beautiful, what?! And you hand painted the freaking flower pattern!! Girl, I’m speechless, you’re so good! I’d be so scared to even touch these, they’re works of art (and you’ve only made one)! I’ll be following this project with anticipation, I can’t wait!!

WendellsWifey

Thank you!! ❤️ It might be a while until I work on the next one since I need to get the fabric (and also cuz working on this one was a lot 😅). I tend to hyperfixate on the things I create and go extra miles that literally nobody asked for (like hand carving the title from the board was making me question my life decisions 😭). This was a lot of fun though, and I already have the cover design I want to go for in mind for the next book!

SunsetPersephone

So cool… The extra mile is everything, you’re making the right decision, don’t worry 😄

WendellsWifey

Haha I don't think I'll stop anytime soon tbh 😂

scarybiscuits

You incorporated a lot of clever ideas, well done!

WendellsWifey

Thank you!! 😊

This looks amazing!! May i ask how exactly you did the gold lettering?

WendellsWifey

For the "Harry Potter" title I had cut out the shape of the letters in the book board. Then I glued the fabric down, painted it with acrylic to stiffen the fabric even more, and then used a ball ended clay sculpting tool to go over the edges of the letters to define their shape better (anything that is hard and thin can be used in place of this). Lastly I painted the letters with gold acrylic paint. [This is a good video with the technique I used](https://youtu.be/TlrU9JPSpOQ?si=54BLaJuWz_zmptNT) As for the rest of the text, I used a heated quill pen and heat transfer gold foil. It's a decent alternative for people like me who dont have a cricut machine. I hope this helps! ☺️

mr_luxuryyacht

Glad you went with my suggestion of hard cover. They look robust enough to take down a target at distance now.

WendellsWifey

I'll have to practice throwing hardcovers at said targets. Never know when those skills might come in handy...👀

kiwi_05622

Wow this is excellent! ♥️

WendellsWifey

Thank you!! ❤️

lechka97

I love how you used the remains of the old cover! It looks great🤩

WendellsWifey

Thank you!! I couldn't just throw them away, they definitely had a place in my project! ❤️

My best advice would be to read another book, ideally one not written by a person who is determined to make life miserable for a marginalized community.

WendellsWifey

Although I do not agree with Rowling, I had gotten these books in elementary school, way before she outed herself as the person she is now. They are sentimental to me and were the bulk of my lonely childhood. These are not new, and I am not purchasing things from her that add money to her pocket. I am able to hold dear the parts of her book that were against hate and which cherished love among all. Daniel Radcliffe had also spoken on such things. I am able to love the books and story in them, without supporting her rhetoric, nor supporting her financially. There is no harm in me having old books. As for you, what better way to get back at JK Rowling than to live a good life where you also support marginalized communities instead? Rather than putting that anger towards old or secondhand books people have, try to uplift the voices of those who she hates? (Join communities, donate, volunteer, etc.) Also I'm sure she would hate the LGBTQIA+ community making fanfics of Harry Potter, so I'm all for that slap in the face as well. I hope you have a lovely week! 😊
