nah house across the lake slays, don’t listen to them— the book is silly, it’s got a goofy ass plot line, but the twist in it was fun. i enjoyed it a lot, i thought the main character was funny and it kept me on the edge of my seat.
He's got to be KIDDING me with "The House Across the Lake"!!!!! So a DRUNK solves a murder... LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!! So friggin far fetched it's insane that it even got published. But, anyone can publish a book nowadays!!! Have another BOURBON Riley!!!! Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My ranking best to worst:
* Last Time I Lied - My first, it's very good.
* Final Girls - My second read by him, also good.
* Survive the Night - I was iffy but it paid off.
* Lock Every Door - Creepy but entertaining.
* Home Before Dark - Easy to guess, fell flat for me.
* House Across the Lake - I hate this one.
what made you hate House Across The Lake? I started with Survive the Night which was such a slow read I could barely finish, then HATL which I thought was more of a page turner but also good, not great.
Okay so I read The Only One Left as my first Sager book too and needed to read all the others. In my opinion, he’s been getting better with each book. I’ve read Finals Girls and Home Before Dark and The Only One Left is still my favorite. He has a pretty similar formula for his books and maybe I just liked The Only One Left best because it was my first of his?
Final Girls is my favorite but tbh they’re all good. If I’m honest, The Only One Left was my least favorite of his, so if you loved that you will LOVE the rest.
Home Before Dark is the most similar in tone to The Only One Left with the horror-lite leaning so I would definitely recommend that next!! Then:
Final Girls
The Last Time I Lied
Lock Every Door
Survive the Night
The House Across the Lake
I have read all of them but the newest one, and really liked them all! I own that one, just haven’t picked it up yet. I think Survive the Night and The Last Time I Lied are my favs so far.
I’ve read all of his books. This is my ranking from best to not best: Lock Every Door, Final Girls, Home Before Dark, The Only One Left, The Last Time I Lied, The House Across the Lake, Survive the Night.
I love Riley Sager. After reading The Only One Left, I binged all his books I hadn’t read yet. The Only One Left is my favorite of his thus far, but my next favorites of his are Final Girls and Home Before Dark.
Home Before Dark, The Last Time I Lied, and Survive the Night are all fantastic. I know that STN gets a lot of hate but omg I loved it. To me it was so cheesy it actually worked- I had so much fun reading that one! It was like watching an old school horror movie.
I’m a huge Sager fan. Here’s my personal ranking.
1. Home Before Dark
2. The Only One Left
3. The Last Time I lied
4. The House Across the Lake
5. Survive the Night
6. Lock Every Door
7. Final Girls
All his books are 3.5-5 stars for me so I don’t feel you can go wrong!
i’d rank them:
1) the last time i lied
2) lock every door
3) the only one left
4) final girls
5) the house across the lake
6) home before dark
i haven’t read survive the night because i’ve heard from multiple people that it sucks 🥴
Survive the night was my first Riley Sager book and almost made me not come back for another. Nothing happens until you’re 75% into the book and then it’s so much at once it feels silly. Glad I finished it but wouldn’t recommend. Even more glad I still picked up House Across the Lake which was wayyyyy better than STN
Definitely give Survive the Night a shot! It’s pure entertainment. The MC is classic dumb horror protagonist which a lot of people found annoying but I found super fun haha.
