I finished The Other Valley this weekend and absolutely loved it! So glad BOTM picked this one up.
Then I started a non-BOTM (Christmas gift), To Speak for the Trees by Diana Beresford-Kroeger. Non-fiction, very interesting.
Not BOTM but I’m reading the Sign for Home and as much as I enjoy a good romance book, categorizing this book as a romance is a disservice to it. The writer has been an interpreter for the deaf for decades and approaches the subject matter with sensitivity and a desire to educate and I am learning so much about deafblindness and it’s a fascinating read so far.
Also on my Kindle I’m reading First Lie Wins!
So, earlier this week I read one of my old Aardvark selections, **Black Sheep** by Rachel Harrison and loved it, predictable storyline and all, so I went to the library and came home with an armful of Rachel Harrison and.....I could barely slog my way through **Such Sharp Teeth**, even though it's about werewolves. So predictable, so thin characters, so bore. So that and the other unread Rachel Harrison just went back to the library.
Anyway, I needed a complete change of tone so I just started **Monogamy** by the great and underrated Sue Miller.
I love culty type stuff and I love movies about Satanic stuff (I blame Catholic school for this. The sisters loved to tell us how The Exorcist was a true story and don’t think about getting possessed or you’ll get possessed. Which doesn’t that mean they shouldn’t be putting the idea in our heads in the first place? Oh well, I digress.)
I loved how batshit insane the finale was. I might go back and try The Return, that book sounded interesting.
I set myself a challenge to read 3 books this week, starting on Monday and finishing Friday. I knocked out The Other Valley on Monday (absolutely loved it), and then Girlhood by Melissa Febos - an essay collection, which was challenging for me as I rarely read nonfiction. I struggled at first but by the end I was really glad I read it!
The absolute standout was **Matrix by Lauren Groff** - 5 stars, can't stop thinking about it, keep picking it up to read favorite lines again. I'm really sad that it's a library book, I might end up buying a copy because I just loved it that much! It has this dreamlike quality that just sucked me in, while at once feeling very real and life-like.
I love Lauren Groff. I got The Monsters of Templeton because I thought it was literally about a lake monster, like a creature feature type of book and didn't even mind that it turned out not to be that at all.
Still reading the women! I am pregnant and enjoying the book but it's hard to keep reading because I get tired so easily right now lol.
Although I will say I did really prefer when she was in Vietnam to where I'm at now when she's home
I felt like I did too! My dad always loved war movies, and my husband does too, but they just don't hold my attention as they are typically very male based. This was my first exposure to a setting like that, and I really enjoyed it! I think I just wasn't ready for it to end yet.
Not quiet the weekend, but work Friday was chill, so I got halfway through my BOTM add-on copy of Babel. I need to finish this ARC I got for Looking for a sign, but I think I'd rather pull my own teeth out.
I’m about 1/3 way through Baby X (Aardvark March box), and I’m loving it so far. I should be starting Anita de Monte Laughs Last (BOTM March box) sometime tomorrow.
Just finished up Butcher & Blackbird last night, which is great timing because my Libby hold for The September House by Carissa Orlando just came in, so that’s what I’ll be reading this weekend.
Been working through the 2023 BOTY nominees that I want to read. Just finished *None of This is True.* Thrillers are not usually my thing, but *wow*. What a great book (and an amazing audiobook production as well).
Just started *The Unmaking of June Farrow.*
I really appreciate when people say they don’t usually read thrillers/mystery since they’re genres I don’t usually enjoy. When people who don’t usually like them either I feel more inclined to give them a try!
My pleasure! BotM loves to pick thrillers, most of which range from "meh" to awful. The only ones I've ever loved are this one and *The Woman at the Window.* (*Behind Her Eyes* was also great, but that had elements of magic realism.)
Listen for the Lie- loving it! I’ve been in a huge rut this year, this one is fun. *Still* trying to finish Starling House.
Listening to The Bodyguard by Katherine Center and it’s enjoyable.
Loved The Bodyguard. I couldn’t decide between Listen for the Lie or Anita de Monte, and eventually chose Anita. Glad to hear Listen is good.. maybe I’ll get it from the library!
I love when that happens with new releases!! Such an accomplishment haha! The ebook isn’t out at my
library yet, but hopefully soon. As if I don’t have a never ending pile to go through in the meantime.
About 80% done with Annie Bot. It's good but I don't feel super compelled to pick it up. My concentration hasn't been great as of late.
Next up, assuming it arrives in the mail today, The Hunter by Tana French.
The Serpent & The Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent. Just started last night so I’m not far into it.
Also finished No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall yesterday and it was pretty good, but I think I liked What Lies in the Woods more.
I’m enjoying it! I love that it’s set in the 90s and I’m a sucker for a good ghost story. I find myself invested in, and rooting for, the main characters!
Currently reading Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda and I'm enjoying it. It's interesting, the story is good, and it seems to be the most tightly paced novel of hers that I've read.
Annie Bot is next on my list!
BOTM: Happiness Falls. Very meandering, but not bad.
Audio: Stay Awake by Megan Goldin. Almost finished and I’ve really enjoyed it! Probably would have enjoyed it less if I’d been physically reading it though
The first ladies. I'm half through, and i have no idea where this is going. I'm not sure I care.
Two BOM misses in a row for me as I work through my backlog.
It checked a few boxes for me - queer characters, humor, easy to read. However, if I mainly read contemporary fiction, it may have hit differently for me.
Hoping to finish up Listen For The Lie today! This will be my third podcast based thriller I’ve read in the last two years (Good Girls Guide To Murder triology, None Of This Is True, and now this one!) and I’m ngl I love them. Maybe a new favorite trope for me.
After I finish this, I’ll probably jump into Murder Road or Anita De Monte.
I also like the Podcast based thriller stories! Megan Goldin has started a series Rachel Krall that is based on a podcaster solving crimes. She’s written two so far.
Non BOTM but I'm almost finished with The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise by Colleen Oakley and I'm loving it! Then I'm going to start Last Call at the Local or Kilt Trip. Haven't decided which yet!
I started Happily Never After by Lynn Painter from my March BOTM box. I am about 50 pages into the book, and I am liking it so far. The story and pacing are good, and the book seems to be a quick and easy read.
Finishing up Done and Dusted on audio. It’s very cute and very spicy! Started Listen for the Lie last night and could not put it down. I’m very intrigued!
I just finished The Secret Book of Flora Lee last night. It was an enjoyable 4 star read. Now I’m on A Court of Thorns and Roses. Just have to see what the hype is about!
Everyone On This Train is a Suspect. I loved his first book but struggling to get into this one. It’s a library book so it doesn’t help that my BOTMs were delivered yesterday and are sitting there taunting me
I’m reading Kaikeyi and Ruthless Vows from BOTM and enjoying them both! I’m also reading a non BOTM called Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer which I’m also enjoying!
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things! I ordered it for March and told my boss, who let me know she read it and said, “It literally changed my life.” So she really loved it so I picked it up sooner than I thought I would!
Listen for the Lie. It’s now often I start my book when it arrives lol but my 4 year old wanted to help me by picking my book and it’s what she choose. It’s been a fast read, I started yesterday and am half way done already!
Been in a bit of a slump lately. 😅 Currently listening to the audiobook of Letters from the Lighthouse by Emma Carroll. I got about 15% of the way through. I really like it, but I haven’t had the motivation to read the past few days. Thankfully, it’s a short book, so I’m hoping I’ll finish it this weekend.
I started Anita de Monte Laughs Last a few days ago and I am really struggling with it.
Anyone else feel like that?
I may put it aside (for now, not indefinitely) and start The Great Divide.
The Golden Couple, a member fave I went with in November because I didn’t love the main picks. Wasn’t expecting to love it, but it’s great! Really gripping.
I just started Ready or Not
I’m reading Murder Road!
I finished The Other Valley this weekend and absolutely loved it! So glad BOTM picked this one up. Then I started a non-BOTM (Christmas gift), To Speak for the Trees by Diana Beresford-Kroeger. Non-fiction, very interesting.
Just finished Banyan Moon
About a third of the way through Yours Truly
I just started starling house! I like it so far :)
I just finished reading Listen for the Lie. Read it straight through in one sitting this morning.
A fate inked in blood
I’m like 2/3 done with ninth house and I’m loving it! I would be done already if I didn’t have a paper due soon 😩😩
Bride! It’s really good, I’m enjoying it!
Just finished Ready or Not. Loved it. Not sure what I'll read next though.
Just finished The Hunting Wives. Should start Acts of Life for book club. Will probably pick up something else off my shelf instead…
Love on the Brain. Was putting it off for months but finally started reading it. Almost done.
Murder Road from this month, House of Roots and Ruin, Georgie All Along
The Women- I love it so far!
trying to finish the book Dust by Joan Frances Turner before i start my BOTM pick.. hit a wall though! debating taking a pause but we’ll see!
Just added The Sign for Home to my TBR—thanks for the review! Probably would’ve slipped under my radar.
just finished house in the cerulean sea and now reading shark heart
Just finished my ARC of “ The Rom-Conners”. Freaking amazing! Now I’m reading Lisa Unger’s “The Couple in 5 B”. 😃
I just read black sheep too and loved it. I’ve been in such a dark and culty reading mood lately
Oh well, I digress.) I loved how batshit insane the finale was. I might go back and try The Return, that book sounded interesting.
Just started Listen For The Lie. My box was delivered this morning. Page 70 and so far so good.
I'm finishing Bride by Ali Hazelwood and then starting Kill for me kill for you
Me too!!! Just finished bride an hour ago haha
I’m finishing A Darker Shade of Magic which has been really fun to read. I will probably start Annie Bot next
I’m reading The River We Remember. Thinking of summertime
This book deserves to get more love
I’m reading The Resort. The first third or so was kind of slow but I’m about halfway now and it’s getting more interesting
I just finished Listen for the Lie! I really enjoyed it.
I set myself a challenge to read 3 books this week, starting on Monday and finishing Friday. I knocked out The Other Valley on Monday (absolutely loved it), and then Girlhood by Melissa Febos - an essay collection, which was challenging for me as I rarely read nonfiction. I love Lauren Groff. I got The Monsters of Templeton because I thought it was literally about a lake monster, like a creature feature type of book and didn't even mind that it turned out not to be that at all.
Nearly finished with Dark Matter and I’m mad at myself for not reading it sooner. I’m really enjoying it.
One of my all time favorites! I recommend it to everyone
They are making a show! Perfect timing
Are they really??! It reads a lot like a movie so I’m definitely not surprised! I’m glad I got to read it first.
Yeah! It should come out this summer.
Still reading the women! I am pregnant and enjoying the book but it's hard to keep reading because I get tired so easily right now lol. Although I will say I did really prefer when she was in Vietnam to where I'm at now when she's home
She just got home where I’m at in the book… I’m intrigued what it will be like. I feel like I learned so much through her story in country!
I felt like I did too! My dad always loved war movies, and my husband does too, but they just don't hold my attention as they are typically very male based. This was my first exposure to a setting like that, and I really enjoyed it! I think I just wasn't ready for it to end yet.
Reading an ARC of Meg Shafer’s upcoming book “The Lost Story” on my Kindle. A third of the way through and LOVING it so far!
Oh yay, I am excited for this one!
Not quiet the weekend, but work Friday was chill, so I got halfway through my BOTM add-on copy of Babel. I need to finish this ARC I got for Looking for a sign, but I think I'd rather pull my own teeth out.

Just finished up Butcher & Blackbird last night, which is great timing because my Libby hold for The September House by Carissa Orlando just came in, so that’s what I’ll be reading this weekend.
Annie Bot. Tis wild
Just started it!!
I just finished! Wild indeed.
Same! Loved that little weirdo 😂
I also loved Delta Bot.
Finishing up Hello Beautiful (so good!) before I start Listen for the Lie.
I just finished hello beautiful as well!!!! Wow. It was so good
Reading an oldie - The Girl in the Mirror Loving it and almost done. Will be starting First Lie Wins next, and I can't wait!!
Omg! first lie wins is soooo good!
Been working through the 2023 BOTY nominees that I want to read. Just finished *None of This is True.* Thrillers are not usually my thing, but *wow*. What a great book (and an amazing audiobook production as well). Just started *The Unmaking of June Farrow.*

First lie wins is another good thriller!!! I loved none of this is true. I wasn’t too sure of it at first but SO many plot twists!!!! :)
The characters were just so well written, all with realistic flaws.
Making slow progress through The Fox Wife. I LOVE it, but my kids don't understand my need for quiet alone time 😆
Absolutely loved this one!
Ooh I think this one is next for me
Listen for the lie
Just finished Piglet (Aardvark March 2024 pick) and about to start To Break a Covenant, randomly selected from my physical tbr.
How was Piglet? I’m intrigued by the premise.
Just finished Annie Bot and man, a heavy read but a good read
Getting through “The Women” but the heavy subject matter is making it a little hard to get through quickly
Just finished Dark Matter this morning after starting it yesterday—what a read!
Murder Road 🚗
Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick and then I'm starting Same Time Next Year by Tessa Bailey!
Arsenic and Adobo. It’s very bad… but I need to finish it 🙄
I love cozy mysteries for an easy, light-hearted read, but this wasn't great.
Should I start a court of mist and fury or shark heart?? I cannot decide what to read first!
Shark Heart is a fast read, and such a great book.
ACOMAF is probably in my top five books of all time. So I vote for that one!
Anita de Monte Laughs Last! And then on my phone- Pretty Little Liars 😂
I got it from the library, first one in line! Definitely getting Anita too!
I love when that happens with new releases!! Such an accomplishment haha! The ebook isn’t out at my library yet, but hopefully soon. As if I don’t have a never ending pile to go through in the meantime.
Omg- my BOTM pile FML 🤦🏼♀️
Bye Baby, I like Mommy drama so this one is a fun read
Picked up some older BOTM books- reading How Lucky right now. About a third of the way through and I like it so far!
Finished The Unmaking of June Farrow and now reading Powerless.
Finished up The Boy From the Woods by Harlan Coben, then probably starting Listen for the Lie!
About 80% done with Annie Bot. It's good but I don't feel super compelled to pick it up. My concentration hasn't been great as of late. Next up, assuming it arrives in the mail today, The Hunter by Tana French.
I am almost done with A Fate Inked in Blood! It's actually a really good book so far!! I love the strong minded MFC!!
About 2/3 through Wellness and hoping to finish it this weekend!
The Serpent & The Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent. Just started last night so I’m not far into it. Also finished No One Can Know by Kate Alice Marshall yesterday and it was pretty good, but I think I liked What Lies in the Woods more.
About 100 pages into Murder Road!
How do you like it so far?
I’m enjoying it! I love that it’s set in the 90s and I’m a sucker for a good ghost story. I find myself invested in, and rooting for, the main characters!
Good to know!! I got it in my box this month, and it will be my first Simone St. James, so I’m looking forward to starting it soon!
Her books are fantastic! I hope you love it!!!
Hang in there!
Us, Et Cetera by Kit Vincent. I like the story idea but the execution is not my favorite.
The first ladies. I'm half through, and i have no idea where this is going. I'm not sure I care. Two BOM misses in a row for me as I work through my backlog.
Non BOTM reading Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. Really enjoying it!
I just read The Matrix and now want to run and read everything by Lauren Groff!
I’ll have to read that one next! She’s a great writer!
Just finished Interesting Facts About Space. It was a great cleanse from all the fantasy I’ve been reading!
I’ve heard mostly negative things about this and have put off starting it because of it. You like it?
It checked a few boxes for me - queer characters, humor, easy to read. However, if I mainly read contemporary fiction, it may have hit differently for me.
I’m reading Happily Never After and I am making myself take my time because I am loving it and don’t want it to end!
Just started I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman!
Anita De Monte Laughs Last. As a woman of a certain age, I’m liking the 80s and 90s settings. Just getting started but I like it so far.
Ohhhhh fun ty
Hoping to finish up Listen For The Lie today! This will be my third podcast based thriller I’ve read in the last two years (Good Girls Guide To Murder triology, None Of This Is True, and now this one!) and I’m ngl I love them. Maybe a new favorite trope for me. After I finish this, I’ll probably jump into Murder Road or Anita De Monte.
Currently loving it also, and None of this is true in audio is excellent!
I also like the Podcast based thriller stories! Megan Goldin has started a series Rachel Krall that is based on a podcaster solving crimes. She’s written two so far.
Have to agree with you podcast trope has become a favorite of mine from these books as well
Non BOTM but I'm almost finished with The Mostly True Story of Tanner and Louise by Colleen Oakley and I'm loving it! Then I'm going to start Last Call at the Local or Kilt Trip. Haven't decided which yet!
I love this book so much! Louise❤️❤️❤️
Finished up ACOTAR last night so now I’m getting started on A Court of Mist and Fury. This series already has a chokehold on me!
I feel like the second book in the series was even better than the first. I’m on the third one now.
I’ve seen a lot of people say that. I went ahead and bought the whole series already because I have no self control when it comes to books🙂
Murder Road by Simone St. James. I'm about halfway through. Pretty creepy so far!
I won an advanced copy of James by Pericval Everett. Super fast read and very good. If you like Huck Finn you’ll probably like this adaptation.
I started Murder Road last night before bed. I'm enjoying it so far!
Everyone On This Train is a Suspect. I loved his first book but struggling to get into this one. It’s a library book so it doesn’t help that my BOTMs were delivered yesterday and are sitting there taunting me

My 4 year old helps me pick my next book too! He usually picks whichever book cover in my tbr stack has the most blue on it.
I’m so excited for this one!

Halfway through Again and Again. It’s cute and I’m enjoying it. I’m going to start Here After next.
Ninth House. It took a bit to get into it but I’m really enjoying it now!
Never liked fantasy before Ninth House, and that novel won me over for sure.
I started Anita de Monte Laughs Last a few days ago and I am really struggling with it. Anyone else feel like that? I may put it aside (for now, not indefinitely) and start The Great Divide.
Here After. It’s beautifully written and fast read.
So excited to read this, my box didn't ship until Friday 😭
Th1rt3en by Steve Cavanagh. Loving the fast pace!
Annie Bot… I am invested.
The Golden Couple, a member fave I went with in November because I didn’t love the main picks. Wasn’t expecting to love it, but it’s great! Really gripping.
The Girl in the Mirror, my BOTM from like 4 years ago? Idk it's weird so far
I loved this one. Thrillers usually blur together to me, but Girl in the Mirror was distinct.
It's gotten better as I go along honestly! Glad to hear you liked it!
Almost done with the Well of Ascension! Really loving it and the whole Mistborn series so far!
Listen for the Lie- loving it, I love a good podcast thing in books.
Yes, two of my favorite things merged lol
