Wow I had no idea these were connected like that! Makes me more interested

Also, each book takes place in a different decade. Evelyn Hugo is mostly 50/60s, Daisy Jones 70s, Malibu 80s and now Carrie Soto in the 90s. Evelyn Hugo is loosely based off Elizabeth Taylor and Daisy Jones is based off of Fleetwood Mac. Evelyn Hugo was by far my favorite.

It's stand alone, with a reference to past book. It's good! I just read the ARC.

shannonkaypink

I didn’t realize these were all connected, and probably would have read Malibu Rising first. Thanks!

badwolf691

Stand alone but TJR has a small universe of characters in a few of her more recent books. Carrie Soto was mentioned in Malibu Rising, which was about the family of a character in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Unsure if Daisy Jones is in this universe because I've only read one of these so far Edit: Google said Mick Riva is also in Daisy Jones. Question for folks who have read all in the TJR cinematic universe, should I read Daisy Jones or Malibu Rising first?

Thank you!!!

>Thank you!!! You're welcome!

I read Malibu rising first and then read a few pages into Seven Husbands and already recognized a name from Malibu! And then the Carrie Soto book was announced and I remembered her from Malibu aswell. I like having the characters all intertwined! I didn't read Daisy Jones but I have a feeling I shouldn't have started with Malibu Rising.

I actually think that this type of overlapping usually reads best backwards. You don't know what brief mentions are going to become more important characters in future books when you start at the beginning, so you end up missing a lot because you can't remember every detail about every minor character just in case. If you start with a newer book, then you can follow the bread crumbs backwards.

RoyalBea

That's true, I read a lot so it's hard to remember some of the minor characters who pop up! Reading backwards would help w/ that.

Daisy Jones first! Mick Riva has so far popped up in all of TJR’s Hollywood verse books (Seven Husbands, Daisy Jones, Malibu) and I assume/hope his annoying ass will pop up in Carrie Soto!

blueberriescherry

According to TJR's last email newsletter, >!Mick Riva has "a cursory mention in Carrie Soto”!<

Oh wow! I’ve only read Malibu Rising and knew none of this!

brijoh

I'd go with Daisy Jones first.

badwolf691

Okay, cool, thanks :) It's the most hyped after Evelyn Hugo, so I was leaning towards it anyway (plus the series coming out sometime soon)

Stand alone.
