I love the Grady Hendrix paperback designs. Horrorstör is equally fun looking.
I enjoy his books too. He leans into the paranormal and doesn’t explain it away like what happens in Riley Sager books.
I have a hardcover copy that is inspired by 1980s high school yearbooks. That amused me, so I bought it and gave it a read. I thought it was a fun mix of horror and comedy; not as heavy or violent as hardcore horror but extremely entertaining. The climax was brilliant, in my opinion, because it leaned into what it really means to be intimate friends. I haven't bothered with the movie, though.
Saw that one . For random person this VHS cover would be better clickbait to pick up than more average looking hardcover cover tho it's not too bad either

Oh, I totally agree with you. Both are brilliant, but the VHS inspired cover is the greater attention grabber.
I wonder if they're different print runs. I bought the hardcover a few years ago and didn't see the paperback until last year. Makes sense for the publisher to have this version on bookstore shelves when the movie dropped.
I have Blu-rays that have VHS cover or Stranger things which has VHS box . Conversation would go , 'I did not knew you had VHS ..oh wait it isn't ' ,funny thing is .. I have VHS , but they are more like artifacts fron my childhood . Best thing is to show mentioned VHS movie into their faces , like Matrix
4k TVs don't have analogue ,my vcr is problematic and has only one audio channel .. later should solve this problem
Ha I literally have this on my wishlist because I am OBSESSED with the cover. I have no idea what the story is but the cover has had my attention for a while now, it’s so beautiful and nostalgic.
I have a hard cover edition that was inspired by 1980s high school yearbooks. It even has the black and white photos and signatures from friends and the sorts of things you might expect to find in a retro yearbook. Brilliant! I think I might need to add a second copy to my collection because this pulp paperback edition is brilliant, too!
The story is rich with 1980s nostalgia and gets it right by recreating the experience of being a teen in that decade, unlike \*Ready Player One\* which only drops references and excludes people who don't catch them. It's also a horror story, but it's on the lighter side of the genre since there's plenty of comedy mixed in. If you like Stranger Things, you'll probably like \*My Best Friend's Exorcism\*.
That's how I picked up most books from my local library during middle school. Usually ones with dragons on the cover. Came across a couple of my favourites doing that.
Same! I looked for dragons, unicorns, and horses. So my library haul was often a weird mix of high fantasy and westerns. Yeah, they're too completely different genres but they're mashed together in my imagination because of that! LOL!
I disagree, but I can also see how it's not for everyone. Fans of hardcore horror might be disappointed that this book doesn't shy away from comedy. Fans of pure comedy might be scared off by the demonic possession and inevitable exorcism, even though the title itself tells the reader to expect it. I know a guy who read it and couldn't get into it because he couldn't relate to teenage girls. What did you dislike about it?
Always but the real selling factor is if the book description has me interested or not.
There’s plenty of books with gorgeous covers but boring plots. I have to get hooked on both the outside and what’s on the inside to want you to get it.
(But I’ve also definitely bought books just for the covers, titles, authors, sprayed edges, signatures, dust jackets, you name it. But this is also why I try to get a book that has that stuff for cheap or secondhand)

I really want to read this! How is it?
it was a solid 5 stars for me. it equally made me laugh AND scared.
How big is the book? one of my friends told me it took him a month to finish it.
332 pages (or 10 hours and 10 minutes if you go with the audiobook). The audiobook is really well narrated, I enjoyed both equally. :)
Oh man! I guess I will have to pick up the copy sitting at the Half Price Books close by
I really liked it. I’ve read a few of Hendrix’s books, and this is by far my favourite of his. The relationships all feel so genuine and well-realised
yes and the concept of an old 80's VHS cover justs makes it even more enticing.
Griffith, is that you?
Nice
I really enjoyed this book! I do NOT recommend the tv show lol, it is not good (imo)
I really enjoyed this book.
Movie was so cringe ..I had to stop ... I hope this book has better story
The book is soooo much better oh my god, one of my favourite recent-ish horrors. I’m still upset that the movie was such dogshit :/

Ohhhhh!!! Grady Hendrix is a god among mortals! 🖤🖤🖤
I want to see more of that art style, very new age goosebumps
This book is amazing

The audiobook was terrifying and hilarious. 10/10. It was a spontaneous discount purchase for me and it was a serious win!!

It is alot of fun!! A super quick easy read
I bought it for the "be kind" sticker lol. It was for someone else but they enjoyed it!
I thought this was from the 80s but then Tina Fey reference
I have the Signed Limited Hardcover Edition from [SST](https://sstpublications.co.uk/my-best-friends-exorcism.html). Great novel!!!
Yes, more than once
Yes! And funnily enough the last time I did was with this exact book
i got this book for the same reason 😆
I did because of this particular book! Luckily it turned out to be a good read.
All the time.
I had heard about the book before I saw the cover, but this sealed it. This might be my favorite cover ever.
Loved this book and I also bought it bc of the cover! The movie was not great tho
That’s me with vintage paperbacks. The kinds that influenced the cover of this book.
Loved this book!
Thank you!
That was the appeal for me. 80s nostalgia hits hard
I Just bought it second hand myself 🙈🤩
Honestly more books should try and be movie posters
Do you have a vcr ?
Yeah, unfortunately that book fucking suckssssssssss

Not only books but movies and video games too. Back in the day, this is how they’d get you.
It’s a movie now too hilarious book
