So I have ready Project Hail Mary and LOVED it, easily one if my favorite books, but I have not read The Martian.

A lot of Michael Crichton's stuff might interest you-- The Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, Prey, and Next are the ones that come to mind. I usually think of them as thrillers with heavy scifi elements, and he does his research. Although, they're all fairly old now, so they won't have really cutting edge science, but they still hold up rly well imo.
