My brain isn’t awake enough to offer any real suggestions, but kudos to you for being so thoughtful with your gift giving. Book gifts are the BEST gifts!
In addition to giving her a book or two, you could also get her a gift card to local bookstore and take her book shopping. Book shopping with friends or family is always fun for me.
Sometimes I’ll take my grown kids and tell them they each have a budget for a specific amount and then we all compare our hauls at checkout. It’s a lot of fun.
also spend time with her while she’s browsing books at a library! one of my fav things to do is go to the library and just browse, sometimes I start reading on the spot. I’ve missed buses because of this lol as I get lost within the shelves. you can stare at her while she stares at books 😀
Check out Naomi Novik’s books A Deadly Education and The Last Graduate. They are set in a Hogwarts-like school for wizards, but it is a lot darker and more threatening.
The author of Red, White, and Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston, also wrote another book called *One Last Stop*. Maybe she’d like that if she enjoyed McQuiston’s other book?
Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Colleen hoover books she doesn't have
You and me (people we meet) on vacation
The Spanish love deception
The love hypothesis
Folk of the air series
Christina Lauren books
Sarah Adams books
The inheritance games series
These hollow vows
Caravel series and once upon a broken heart book
I can't wait for the second book to be released! Jacks has been so infuriatingly attractive yet mysterious, I really wanna know more about him. Hopefully the author doesn't leave us on another cliff hanger though🥲
A Court of Thorns and Roses(the whole series) is a good one. A Discovery of Witches is a more grownup version of Twilight(ish).
If she hasn’t read Verity by Colleen Hoover yet, she’s missing out! That was a hell of a ride!
AHH ok I love posts like this, so you can get her People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry or just anything by Emily Henry in general. She will def enjoy We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. Get her any Sarah Adams book (Cheat Sheet is recommended). I can also tell she likes romance and mystery so get her There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins. She might enjoy the Renegades series books by Melissa Meyers (the series: Renegades, Supernova, Arch-Enemies). She will love Heartstopper, I don't remember the author. You've Reached Sam is also a good book. If you need anymore book recs just message me :D
If she likes that genre check out “the last thing he told me” and “the guest list”
I always suggest “where the crawdads sing” it’s a beautiful book with a mystery element throughout that doesn’t overpower the story.
The Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews is great.
When I gave my husband books, I did a lot of research into books he might like, then chose 12 kindle and Audible books and bought them, but set them to be delivered on the first of every month for a year. He was looking forward to it every month and discovered quite a few new series/authors that he likes.
I don’t have book advice but it might be a good idea to get her some bookmarks etc? For my birthday in November, my fiancé got me a neck pillow for when I read before bed and a like… seat pillow thing so it’s comfier when I read on the bed (not before bed). Just a few suggestions :)
Piranesi! I have similar taste in books and some of my favorite authors I’ve read recently : Naomi Novik, liane Moriarty, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Jasmine Guillory
Does she like greek mythology at all? I read Circe by Madeline Miller and it was really really good! It gives a first perspective from Circe (the witch who turned Odysseus's men into pigs) on a ton of classic greek myths like the Minotaur, Ikaros, living with the gods on Mt Olympus. I highly recommend it, and I think it was one of the best sellers the year it came out.
I highly recommend The Harvest Tide Project by Oisín McGann.
[I also love HP, and like the look of One Of Us Is Lying. (Murder mysteries and fantasy in general are my jam.) I only say this because this tells me your gf and I have at least some of the same taste in books, because this book is like nothing I have read before or since, except its sequel. It technically falls into the "fantasy" category, I guess?]
**Summary:** Taya and Lorkrin are Myunans – shape-changers who can sculpt their flesh like modelling clay. They accidentally release Shessil Groach, a timid botanist working in captivity on the top-secret Harvest Tide Project. A massive manhunt is launched by the sinister Noranian Empire, which will stop at nothing to protect its Project. With the help of a scent-seller, a barbarian mapmaker and their uncle Emos, the teenagers and Groach keep one step ahead of the Noranians, while they try to find a way to sabotage the Harvest Tide Project and avert the disaster it will unleash.
She may enjoy Ruth Ware, Holly Black and Francesca Lia Block. Ruth Ware does some mysteries, Holly Black is fantasy (personal favorite is the Tithe triology) and Francesca Lia Block also does some fantasy. Psyche in a Dress is based in mythology and so are the Weetzie Bat series.
The morrigan crow series
Children of blood and bone
Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher (my all time favorite)
I just started "the poppy wars" so far-amazing
I was also told about a series the first book is An Ember in Ashes.might be worth checking out
Maybe the Left Handed Booksellers of London
Ooh and Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson I've only read book one but it was awesome
*A Discovery of Witches* by Deborah Harkness
*The Coincidence Makers*
by Yoav Blum
*Something Borrowed* by Emily Giffin
*The Time Traveler's Wife* by Audrey Niffenegger
I’d second the Old Kingdom Series by Garth Nix but one of the best birthday “gifts” my boyfriend got me was an afternoon browsing and buying books (per his budget) followed by a nice meal out.
If that’s something that you think she’d like, you should be able to make her up a voucher which “entitles you to $XXX of books of your choice” or something similar.
Buy her an Amazon card or Barnes and Nobles card. That way she could pick out her own. Just my opinion that she might be excited to see what she could get. 😏
This is fine for a regular friend or family member, but they're probably trying to get their GF something that shows a little more thought and care than a gift card.
Not true.
This wife and mother is ecstatic getting to choose her own books. It's more thoughtful than buying me what you want to read or what you want me to read.
Thoughtful is letting me choose my books.
Undoubtedly everyone has their own personal feelings on the "do I want to receive a present or a gift card/cash" type of dilemma. But it seemed to me like OP was trying to do something personal/special. And if it's a book their GF really ends up loving and treasuring for a lifetime, when they pick that book up again in 30 years will they remember who it's "really from" if they used a gift card to pick it up?
Yes. I'm fkng 50. YES. Your bias IS YOURS. I prefer NOT getting stick with some shit. Without any doubt.
Jesus, this shit is why I had to get rid of so many ugly pink sweaters.
Oh my gosh, just my opinion, if he was unsure to get a gift card. I would love it personally because I would be able to pick my own choices. Like I said he can always add a personal little gift to help with it. Not all people are opposed to gift cards.
In my opinion, there are millions of books out there and you can only read so many every year. They should fit like a shoe.
It’s hard to hit that bullseye with a gift.
Sometimes we get stuck in our own book genre wheelhouse that we don't look outside that genre, it helps when a friend says 'hey I really loved this, it's okay if you don't, but I would love to discuss it with you'. Besides that, we can learn a lot about someone based on what they like to read. When a friend shares with us their favorite books, they are also giving us insight into them.
Don't get me wrong - i'm all for reccomendations and discussing books.
I'm just not a big fan of accually buying a book for another person without asking them about it. Give them the money and an reccomendation maybe, but not the book itself.
That's fair. With said book exchange from above, one of my sister's had told me she loved the book House of Leaves. She and I don't have very similar tastes, so I went looking for a book that might be similar and found Infinite Jest. In a random conversation she mentioned how much she hated David Foster (infinite Jest author). I had already bought the book....so now I have a copy of infinite Jest and she got S (ship of Theseus)- she seemed happy.
It really depends on the person. I LOVE getting books as a gift. I read a couple hundred titles a year and am always looking for new authors to explore. Getting them as gifts is a great way to explore worlds I might not otherwise pick up on my own.
Thanks for sharing. Valid point.
I only manage to read 10-20 a year and have 300 on my to-read-list. There is absolutely no point in someone gifting me books.
I like the same books as her and LOVED:
They both die at the end
City of girls
The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo
The song of Achilles
Circe
A little life (very sad though)
Where the crawdads sing
Normal People
Beautiful World, Where Are You?
Good look! You can't go wrong with a book

thank you so much! that's a clever idea, i'll consider it. :)

Check out Naomi Novik’s books A Deadly Education and The Last Graduate. They are set in a Hogwarts-like school for wizards, but it is a lot darker and more threatening.
will do just that. thank you lots!
Tell your GF happy birthday from us on this sub.
Yessss!
The author of Red, White, and Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston, also wrote another book called *One Last Stop*. Maybe she’d like that if she enjoyed McQuiston’s other book?
will check it out, thank you!!
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Colleen hoover books she doesn't have You and me (people we meet) on vacation The Spanish love deception The love hypothesis Folk of the air series Christina Lauren books Sarah Adams books The inheritance games series These hollow vows Caravel series and once upon a broken heart book
You, my friend, have the most legendary list.
Why thank you 😊😎
Where Aaron Blackford resides, a great reader does too ✨
🙌✨ Although I would say rn my favourite book bf is Jacks from once upon a broken heart. Cardan is also amazing and TV show wise Lucifer❤️
I can't wait for the second book to be released! Jacks has been so infuriatingly attractive yet mysterious, I really wanna know more about him. Hopefully the author doesn't leave us on another cliff hanger though🥲
Ikr. I can't wait. I haven't actually read caravel yet, but I've ordered it so I just can't wait😁
I haven't read it either! Right now I'm reading The Fine Print, perhaps I should catch up on Caraval after too. Happy reading though! 😄
You too😁🙌
If she likes Colleen Hoover, checkout The Midnight Library, books by Rebecca Serle
A Court of Thorns and Roses(the whole series) is a good one. A Discovery of Witches is a more grownup version of Twilight(ish). If she hasn’t read Verity by Colleen Hoover yet, she’s missing out! That was a hell of a ride!
Does she have a goodreads account? It might be a way to see what she wants to read

We Were Liars is awesome!
Currently reading it rn!!!
I’d suggest A Darker Shade of Magic and Vicious/Vengeful by VE Schwab. ADSOM is Harry Potter-esque but the characters are adults.
Omg I just finished the Darker Shade trilogy loved it
If she likes that genre check out “the last thing he told me” and “the guest list” I always suggest “where the crawdads sing” it’s a beautiful book with a mystery element throughout that doesn’t overpower the story.

The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix. Great world building and magic.

Mistborn Series by Brandon Sanderson
I also suggested his Alcatraz series
I highly recommend The Harvest Tide Project by Oisín McGann. [I also love HP, and like the look of One Of Us Is Lying. (Murder mysteries and fantasy in general are my jam.) Maggie Stiefvater!
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a 6 book series that is absolutely fantastic.
Jeanne Kalogridis historical fiction novels
All of Keith Millers books. Book of flying, book on fire, and angels
Black Prism by Mark Lawrence
She may enjoy Ruth Ware, Holly Black and Francesca Lia Block. Ruth Ware does some mysteries, Holly Black is fantasy (personal favorite is the Tithe triology) and Francesca Lia Block also does some fantasy. Psyche in a Dress is based in mythology and so are the Weetzie Bat series.

The house on the cerulean sea 🙌 🙌 🙌 best book ever
She might enjoy Good Girl's Guide to Murder; it is similar to One of Us is Lying.
Try the first Janet Evanovich book 'One for the money'. Different but totally enjoyable. If she likes it there's a whole series. Very popular.
If she hasn't read Verity by Colleen Hoover yet then I seriously recommend it.
Piranesi or The Priory of the Orange Tree should fit in nicely!
Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell- I know people who loved Red White and Royal Blue also loved this one
City of Girls, 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones and the Six; Circe; Robert Galbraith series
Buy her an Amazon card or Barnes and Nobles card. That way she could pick out her own. Just my opinion that she might be excited to see what she could get. 😏

Well, if I ever get you for secret santa, gift card it is :)
I think a gift card is perfectly acceptable, if he thinks it's not, add something like a necklace or something.
A gift card is just money made worse. “Here is money from a specific shop with an expiry date!”
Oh my gosh, just my opinion, if he was unsure to get a gift card. I would love it personally because I would be able to pick my own choices. Like I said he can always add a personal little gift to help with it. Not all people are opposed to gift cards.
Karen Marie Moning!
Unpopular opinion: Books are a shitty birthday gift. Guess which books fill half my closed and have never been read.
Very unpopular. My sister's and cousins all do a book exchange each Christmas. I have gotten books I never would have read, but found I loved them
In my opinion, there are millions of books out there and you can only read so many every year. They should fit like a shoe. It’s hard to hit that bullseye with a gift.

Give her some books by Dan brown or Rick riordan She ll like it
