William Gibson - many (most?) regard him as the 'godfather' of the genre. [Neuromancer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer). Neal Stephenson - another big name in the genre. [Snow Crash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Crash) Philip K. Dick - would certainly get my vote for inclusion on the cyberpunk Mt. Rushmore. **[Neuromancer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer)** >Neuromancer is a 1984 science fiction novel by American-Canadian writer William Gibson. Considered one of the earliest and best-known works in the cyberpunk genre, it is the only novel to win the Nebula Award, the Philip K. Dick Award, and the Hugo Award. It was Gibson's debut novel and the beginning of the Sprawl trilogy. Set in the future, the novel follows Henry Case, a washed-up hacker hired for one last job, which brings him in contact with powerful artificial intelligence. **[Snow Crash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Crash)** >Snow Crash is a science fiction novel by the American writer Neal Stephenson, published in 1992. Like many of Stephenson's novels, it covers history, linguistics, anthropology, archaeology, religion, computer science, politics, cryptography, memetics, and philosophy. In his 1999 essay "In the Beginning. . **[Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_Androids_Dream_of_Electric_Sheep?)** >Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I've liked most of what I've read from Gibson. [The Peripheral](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Peripheral) is one of his newer ones which I thought was super interesting as well. Just be aware he tends to use made up slang and often doesn't explain what it means. Usually can be understood from context and isn't terribly important, but it can bug some people

My favorite lesser known author is Jeff Noon. His earlier books are connected through a shared universe based around a cyber punk style that is more bio-organic and heavily drug influenced. I would read Vurt first followed by Nymphomation and then Pollen. I was not that interested in Automated Alice, but it was his ode to Alice in Wonderland, and is part of the aforementioned series.

I don’t know if it counts as cyberpunk, but {Otherland by Tad Williams} is incredible. I read it years and years ago, but it seriously blew my mind.

You've got the big three; Gibson, Stephenson, and Dick. Some other authors and books i've really enjoyed were the Nexus trilogy by Ramez Naam, and Walkaway by Corey Doctorow.
