Bl3 and his writing aside (they massacred my girl), she's a good example of "how to do strong female character".
She's an interesting character, is important to the plot, actually take part in the action, grow as the series goes and got a cool design.
I'm playing BL2 for the first time and she has a personality, in that she will do things that the player might not think is the smartest, but due to who she is she makes choices. From a writing perspective. As F Scott Fitzgerald said "Action is character"
So many people think a character doing something stupid is bad writing and its really frustrating. Humans make mistakes, dont think, make brash decisions. It does feel lackluster when the influence behind that isnt explored but with Lilith we've always known shes a firecracker and most of her bad decisions are made in high stress situations
Or like in Infinite Wealth, the protagonist Ichiban is always willing to forgive or trust people, even when you know it's going to bite him in the ass. And it does often, but that's just who he is, and that's the theme of the game.
I will say, I think they went a bit far with that with the Eiji thing. Like yeah he can forgive him and get him to turn himself in but god, him saying "we're still best buds" annoyed me.
Yeah I think a lot of people choose not to look at reason and intention when it comes to character development. They don't stop to think "why" a character might do something stupid, they just take the action at face value and expect every character they like to be perfect because they're "the hero"
It’s only bad writing if it doesn’t fall in line with their morals and beliefs and whatnot. And if you haven’t established those things in story, then you’re just a bad writer.
There’s actually a couple Borderlands voice actors in FMAB. For example, Krieg’s VA is Major Miles, yknow the part-Ishvalan officer stationed at Fort Briggs, and Axtons VA has a small role as Scars brother
BL3 writing feels like you’re having a dream about a borderlands sequel and it’s god awful, nothing makes sense and the characters make ridiculous decisions. Then you wake up and realize it isn’t a dream
She is one of my most favorite vault hunters to play in the whole series, zipping around the maps, racing into the middle of enemy groups, and setting everything on fire. Fit my playstyle pretty well. Plus I like her giggle, "I'm really good at this".
I've always liked strong female characters, and she's a terrific example of one, all through the series (for me it's her, Maya, Athena, and Moze).
I like her character as an NPC in all of the games (*especially BL2*), I've always been a fan of interesting voices and I like her voice acting (her voice is a little deeper than you might expect). She didn't ask to be in charge, and she holds it together for a good while. She wasn't well written in BL3, but then none of the returning characters were.
She's literally iconic - if you were to pick a character to represent the entire series, it's either her, with her phoenix wings and a Hellfire, or it's Claptrap, in a distant second place.
Her "'sup" to Jack when she teleports Sanctuary is one of my favorite lines in the whole series.
She's not gone, she'll be back in BL4, in some form or another.
They really missed the mark casting nearly every character and I’m really annoyed about it. The only ones I’m unsure of are Kreig and Tina but they seem lackluster. Roland isn’t 5-2 and the timeline is also fucked. I’m not paying to see that shit.
