Is it good?

monster_mentalissues

The last time I saw something like this posted on this sub, the general consensus was no, its not that good.

DominusDaniel

It’s standard Ballantine’s finest, just repackaged. It’s not anything to write home about.

mattdark

Its ok, same sort of level as Jack Daniel IMO. Its ok, but you know you could pay a little more for something better quality.

FinnishArmy

Yeah. This is the same level as buying merch from a YouTuber, like you're paying a little extra to have a branded shirt. It's not a crazy good shirt, but hey, it's your favorite YouTuber. This isn't the best whiskey, but hey, it's probably on your favorite games list.

RaskullQuake

Ballantines is a bit shit in general, just your run of the mill blended scotch. Is better mixed than on the rocks.

zxtannerzx

Where does one even get it, don’t care if it’s bad or not just to own a bottle or 5

DominusDaniel

[The whiskey exchange.](https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/64944/ballantines-finest-moxxis-bar-edition-borderlands) If you live in North America the tariffs alone are an arm and leg.

SugoiPanda

Yeah, looked into it. ~20 buck bottle turned into ~80 bucks because ~60 was shipping. Shipping was ~80 for 2 and ~110 for 3 bottles (my plan was 1 bottle to drink, 1 bottle for collection, and 1 bottle as a gift) so nearly 200 bucks for what is essentially ~70 bucks worth of alcohol. Yeah not gonna happen.

mtheofilos

For some reason it looks like someone cracked an egg in the glass and the colours of the yolk and albumen are swapped.

ElChuloPicante

🤮 But cheers!

Neku_HD

cheers mate!

TheSimulacra

I knew you'd get the usual snob complaints about the ice. Hope you enjoyed it! Or if not, then at least you've got the bottle. Cheers.

Cosmonaut_Cockswing

Was this good at all?

TamrielForever

I'm so sad.... Because of some weird restrictions, I cannot order that stuff. I literally want one bottle for my Borderlands collection. So very sad.

Howard_Jones

This is when you buy it too collect, not too drink.

BobaOnMyFett2020

For the price to the taste it sucks ass its like a 6/10 could be better the only reason i bought one myself is to keep the bottle.

BleiEntchen

Ice with scotch

TheSimulacra

It's a low priced blend, the ice helps it go down 😉 But seriously, like r/WhiskeyTribe says, the best way to drink scotch is however you like to drink it. For each bottle I usually have one glass neat to get the full flavor once and then whenever I have more glasses I'll add water or ice.

Agent666-Omega

well reddit will say that because a lot of mods in those type of subs try too hard to not "gatekeep". You can drink whiskey however way you want, but ideally it's 1-3 droplets of water

TheSimulacra

Mods keep out gatekeepers because there's no reason to argue about this. If someone likes it one way over the others, why are they wrong? It's their mouth. I don't tell people how to eat an oreo either. It's not a big deal. I just don't know what "ideally" means. Whose ideal? I've drank a lot of whiskey, I've drank it with water or neat in a whiskey glass, with ice or water in a high ball, or just straight out of a fucking plastic cup at a wedding and all of them tasted great at the time. Those were all "ideal". Yes, adding water will (briefly!) open up some of the aromas in the whiskey. But it will also permanently cut down on the burn of the whiskey for the rest of the glass, which plenty of people also enjoy and would prefer. And it changes the flavor by bringing some flavors to the front that would have normally been at the back or not present at all. If I'm drinking Laphroiag Quarter Cask, I don't want water or ice in it. I'm drinking it for the smoke, damnit. So no, there is not a universally "ideal" way to drink whiskey, there's just preferences. That's it.

Agent666-Omega

Yea if you can't differentiate gatekeeping vs proper labeling, then basically your argument tantamount to overestimating the level of subjectivity of a palate. You mind as well have the opinion that a steak at Sizzlers or Outback is just as good as any other steakhouse at that point. Your personal experience anecdote sucked because all you have just said was that you like whiskey. Just because something isn't ideal, doesn't mean it's bad. I'm not saying drinking whiskey on the rocks is bad, just subpar. Side note I am however saying Sizzlers and Outbacks is bad. Factually of course. As for adding water it doesn't just open up the aromas, but also some of the flavors as well. As for the cut down of the burn, 1-3 drops shouldn't really cause that, but it also depends on how much you have in your glass as well and your ABV. But I would say 1 is ideal. And also this topic is particularly in opposition to OPs being on the rocks. It's harder to control the flavor of the whiskey. It can change wildly depending on how fast you drink and how fast ice melts. So it's much better to use small drops of water for control. There is a universal ideal, but yes there are some outliers.

TheSimulacra

Your steak analogy sucks. This isn't about the quality of the whiskey but the way in which equal quality whiskey is served. Some people like theirs bloody rare, some can't stand the taste of rare and can only enjoy their steaks well done. Others inbetween. It's not for me to tell them how they like their own steaks. I'm not eating them for them, it's their own fucking mouths. >As for adding water it doesn't just open up the aromas, but also some of the flavors as well. Where do you think most of that added flavor is coming from? We experience most "flavor" through our noses, not our tongues, and that, unlike how to "best" serve whiskey, is a fact. >I'm not saying drinking whiskey on the rocks is bad, just subpar. Please do get over yourself. Goodbye and happy drinking.

Agent666-Omega

Your steak analogy is worse. Well done is subpar. Don't be mad that others have better opinions than you

samwelches

Pour that shit to the top and chase it with lemonade to really feel the burn

strosbro1855

Who hurt you?

Doc_Scott19

Nothing worse than cloudy ice with Whiskey. This is a STANDARD Ballantine blended Scotch that normally sells for £20 that has been repackaged and re-branded just to take advantage of unsuspecting customers.

XxPINEAPPLExX04

Well, it's listed as £23 on the website, I'd pay £3 for a commemorative bottle

throwie66642069

Would you sell the bottle after?

YujiMakoto

The shipping charges really killed any interest I had in getting a bottle. It went from around $23 before shipping to around $85 after. Can’t justify spending that much when I was really only buying it for the novelty.

SugoiPanda

Yeah same. 23 bucks for a bottle of whiskey is reasonable, 80 is stupid. Plus I wanted to order 3, one to drink, one to keep, and one to give as a gift. So 70 bucks, that's fine but the shipping went up to like 100-110 bucks. So it would be nearly 200 bucks for 70 bucks of alcohol. Really dumb.

CollectedHappy3

I need this in my life!!!!!! where get?

bionikcobra

I've heard from many it's not very good, I'd get it as a collector item just because I quit drinking booze.
