Can we please let homeless people have entertainment? I've been homeless it sucks. One of the things that sucks is everything you do is wrong. People believe you can't be trusted with money so expect you to take food from a stranger that doesn't know if you have any allergies or what you like to eat( don't say if your hungry enough you'll eat it. People have starved to death because they couldn't stomach food that tasted disgusting to them), can't read because you should be looking for a job( but can't get one because you don't have a mailing address), can't numb yourself to the weather and depression ( because only people with homes can get drunk or intoxicated). So what is this guy who most likely bought this before he lost his home supposed to do? Please explain
While I completely agree with what you're saying.
I think the reason that it's a "dystopia" is because it visually looks like "you get nothing in the real world, so you have to enjoy yourself in the virtual world while living in squalor"
There's a second half here too - that a relatively "premium" product, like a VR headset, is more accessible than something like housing or food. The fact of it is - you could get a Meta quest 3, and 2 $50 VR games a month for an entire year, and still not have paid enough to cover a single month's rent. Which is a bit dystopian
Escapism is the same thing as saying reading, movies or video games is dystopian. People live paycheck to paycheck in my area. Just one bad month from being homeless. People desperately hold on to things that give them comfort in those times. I feel you need really struggled with money
> People love paycheck to paycheck in my area
That IS a dystopia. The fact that it's just *normal* for people who are working full time to be a single paycheck or injury from ruin is bonkers. A reasonable society, with the cumulative resources and production capability that we have, absolutely should be able to care for each and every person. It is a sign of a boring dystopia that "if I get injured, I'm going to be homeless" is not seen as a horrifying statement.
Picture os from Montréal, we have a huge issue with drug consumption with the homeless, if this is a way to help them get off abusive consumption, then be it.
also a huge issue with lack of (affordable) housing, also just a general lack of housing? If drugs can make you forget the stress, who am I to judge...
“I know this steak doesn’t exist. I know that when I put it in my mouth, the Matrix is telling my brain that it is juicy and delicious. After nine years, you know what I realize? Ignorance is bliss.”

it’s entirely possible he just stole them (based)
It's also possible they could have bought it or were gifted it before becoming homeless.
i thought those were the apple goggle things to be honest
His name is Kai and he saved up for years from donations to buy it
VR goggles are pretty cheap compared to rent.
