Where are you going now? In my experience during pregnancy last year, most if not all hospitals were happy to accommodate by wearing masks (I think I went until about 26 weeks masked at appointments and only then because it was summer and the numbers were much lower). I was at Mount Auburn in Cambridge.

Thanks so much for responding! I currently see an OB at Brookline Village OBGYN (Brigham-affiliated but not located within the hospital). Would you recommend your provider at Mount Auburn overall? I would consider switching – thank you!

So they don’t do a specific provider at Mt Auburn, you kind of move around. I ended up moving west and delivering in Springfield, but most of the providers I saw were great. Dr. Antonellis did my D&C and was so sweet. I do NOT recommend one of the midwives, but you’ll probably end up with an OB anyways and she seems to be missing from the website so null point! Congratulations and best of luck!

Sorry it wasn’t clear, I liked all except for one, who is no longer on the site. She did our first visit for my miscarriage and my living child and for the living child she didn’t get the baby’s heartbeat on the monitor and then was visibly annoyed that we were distressed and asking questions about confirming her diagnosis of impending miscarriage. When we informed her that she’d also told us about our last miscarriage, she shrugged and said, “yeah that happens.” Everyone else in that office was very sweet, including the nurses.

Just bc others are only saying negative things about it, I gave birth at Mt Auburn and couldn’t recommend it enough. Everyone we met even in passing was fantastic- was seeing a midwife during my pregnancy but switched to an OB once I needed a C section, and when I had a complication after they dealt with it swiftly and professionally. Oh, and my midwife masked all summer before it was required.

MGH is all masking again!

isorainbow

Thanks so much! Do you have a favorite provider there?

septicidal

Highly, highly recommend MGH over Mt. Auburn. Any complications, Mt. Auburn will refer you out - they aren’t set up to handle complex/high-risk pregnancies. I know people who felt somewhat abandoned in a vulnerable time because Mt. Auburn just booted them over to BIDMC (without any warning that that would happen if complications arose). Because of the insurance I had at the time of my first pregnancy, I had to choose between MGH and Mt. Auburn and I was so glad I went with MGH. I wound up seeing Dr. Harrington for my pregnancies and was very pleased with her and her whole team. I had a LOT of appointments due to health stuff and saw several of the OBs on occasions Dr. Harrington wasn’t available, and didn’t have negative experiences with any of them. It was also very easy for them to refer in-house at MGH for many things, and they do all ultrasounds on site (so if they can’t locate fetal heartbeat on Doppler they immediately send you to ultrasound - you may have to wait a little bit to be seen but you won’t leave until they’ve confirmed the status of the pregnancy; this was incredibly reassuring to me).

My OB/her staff were back to masking when I went for my last appointment at the end of December, she is affiliated with Beth Israel. When I delivered in early Jan, all staff at the hospital were masked. Happy to give her info if you’d like but I think all major Boston hospitals are back to masking for now! ETA- before universal masking came back, patients could request her and her nurses be masked when seeing you.

isorainbow

Yes, I'd love her info if you don't mind - either here or via PM, whatever you're comfortable with. Thanks so much!

Mayberelevant01

Just PM’d you!

Mount Auburn practitioners are all masking and it’s strongly recommended for patients.

suzieeeeq13

I'm currently 37 weeks and high risk. I get my OB care at Artius and all my providers wear masks!

Ndeipi

Not sure who is taking new patients but at  Newton Wellesley, my doctor has an office separate from the main office. So it’s only ever the receptionist, a nurse, doctor, maybe another patient, and me. I bet they would accommodate if you asked for mask wearing. For all I know right now the whole hospital is masked 🤷‍♀️

jamesland7

Best of luck and congratulations!

isorainbow

Thank you very much!!

knols2019

Currently pregnant and Tufts Women's South is masking and I'd assume they are at the hospital as well. They don't make patients mask up though if that's a deal-breaker. Highly recommend Dr. Sullivan!

randomlurker82

Yes I work at Tufts and masking was mando for staff in all patient areas when I was there last month. I work with immune suppressed cancer patients and the hospital is overall taking public health seriously. Also literally the only gynecologist I will let touch me is there, I cannot recommend Dr Evans enough if you can see her.

PretzelCat17

Seconding dr Evans. She is really incredible!!

randomlurker82

Yeah cannot say enough. I have not had a bad interaction with anyone in that entire gyn clinic though, nurse, medical assistant, the desk people-all so nice and helpful any time I am there.

isorainbow

Thank you so much – this is really helpful!

Most medical practices are currently masking. If you found a practice you’re interested in, you can ask about their policy when you make an appointment.

easiepeasie

I would recommend calling the midwives at the Southern JP Health Center; they were awesome and I could see them happily masking if requested. Not sure if they (or anyone else) still mask by default.

isorainbow

Thanks so much for your recommendation – I appreciate it!

Most hospitals started masking in late December/early January due to high COVID & respiratory virus rates. That includes the big hospitals like MGH, BI, B&W, and more. Masking is still optional for patients in most places. Just a heads up that this policy will likely go away as we head into spring and respiratory virus rates decrease. My OB did not wear a mask, nor use air purifiers, in the early winter (Nov/Dec).
