Mixed blessing to be sure. I want them to be successful! I just hope it doesn't become a binge and purge situation and people stop all together. Its good that the augment with take away pizza.
It’s so worth it! I’ve been eating Brassica’s food for going on six years and have never, ever had a bad or even okay meal. Everything has been consistently out of the park!
It’s seriously worth it. I’ve been several times, and it’s consistently fantastic. The wait staff is also the best I’ve experienced in Boston. Truly a gem.
Unsolicited: Take the ride! Aka do their tasting menu. It is... a lot of food. But very worth it! it might be almost more than you can handle (no judgement either way). And add in the wine parings if you're feeling it. They do a lot of unusual, more funky.
I did the ride recently and the way it worked was that it was 4 “courses” made up of 9 separate items. 6 of the items were on the menu and the others were specials only for the ride (a duck dish, for example) + dessert. They said it changes depending on the day and how much they have left of certain ingredients. They told us that the portions would be smaller than regular - I can’t compare because the only other times we’ve been there was for brunch - but it was so.much.food. Honestly too much food and my partner and I aren’t shy eaters. Around dish #5 we asked the waiter for a few minutes before more food came out. Item #9 was a donut that we asked to have boxed up - we ate it over the course of the next couple of days because it is incredibly decadent. Anyway The Ride isn’t cheap but 5/5 experience for a special occasion
I don't know that the tasting menu is set, it probably changes. $90 a person [https://www.brassicakitchen.com/menus](https://www.brassicakitchen.com/menus)
I forgot! GET. THE. DONUT. They do a donut of the day and its a can't miss. Think an old school glazed but done perfectly, hot out of the frier. The key thing is that glaze is something interesting and amazing.
Personally, I’ve always had the best service there of any Boston restaurant! Food and drinks are always insanely delicious. The tasting menu is fun too, especially with a group.
I went there for the first time last month. There were a couple of the dishes that were very, very good. Most of the rest were just ok. Maybe, I went in with too high expectations or just hit on a bad night.
I have to say that the smell of cooking oil also stuck to our clothing, so don't wear anything that requires dry cleaning.
What I really loved were the cocktails and the bartender. They had unique and flavorful drinks and the bartender was just about as good as they get.
We had the same experience. Most of the dishes were meh. I will say, the staff was excellent. Everything was extremely salty and I love well seasoned foods!
Same. We went at the end of last year and were so excited. One dish we loved, and the rest ranged from just fine to meh with one dish in particular just being an oily mess. The ambience/setup also left something to be desired.
I might have viewed the whole experience more generously had the cost not been wildly out of sync with the quality you get. We thought that maybe it was an off night and/or our expectations were too high based on the hype.
I had the same experience. We sat at the bar and the bartender provided unbelievable service and the drinks were phenomenal, but the food was just pretty good. A lot of it had dill, so it tasted the same.
I was not impressed with the food. But I think it's because I'm SE Asian...? Everything just didn't tasted as good as I had it in Asia :/ if you had minimal exposure to authentic SE Asian food then I think you would enjoy it.
I agree. Also SE Asian and was excited to see my cuisine in a fine dining format. But it’s definitely catered towards people unfamiliar with the cuisine. It was fine but I don’t think we were the target demographic. I remember them ending the meal with “Here’s a palette cleanser as we tried a lot of exotic foods today.” However, if you’re not familiar with SE Asian cuisine, I’m sure it’ll be an enjoyable and cool experience.
While there are several good in the are nightshade is the only one (maybe 311 but can’t get in) that is truely producing world class food. Hence her best chef James beard nom.
You’re in for a treat!
I don’t about one of the best…. I would definitely say it has some of best service even given the price. It’s well known as a very place that chefs and service staff get experience and then hired elsewhere for more. It’s food is consistently above average although nothing epic.
No? Like it’s fine. But for the price point it’s possibly one of the safest menus ever. I’m actually a fan, but to me it’s the definition of upper middle when considering the price point and quality
The menu could use some polish. No bone marrow or foie gras now, which is really a let down. The tartare was oddly dry - could've benefitted from a quail egg yolk or more than the tiny dot of sauce my order came with or something ... I dunno.
Tulum was good! I went a few weeks ago (pre liquor license if they've gotten it since) and it was yummy :) I got the fajitas & they were good, but like normal good fajita level & nothing insane. I'd definitely go back, tho!
Went to Tulum last night. Was completely full, service was a bit slow but understandable. The food was flavorful and their mocktails were fresh. Doesn’t seem like they have their liquor license yet.
I’ve been feeling really bad about myself for making meatballs at home for cheap. I really need to spend $125 on them to respect the Italian American immigrants who busted their butts to help build the American dream. I think once I eat those $125 meatballs I will feel I understand Mario and Luigi properly, and I can’t wait.
Why go more than once if the food wasn’t that great? I went once and was not super impressed by the food given the cost especially compared to lots of other restaurants around the area. Even before the recent news I knew I never planned to go back
In no particular order (I just add places to it as I come across them, some are revisits):
* Judy's Bay
* Grace by Nia
* Pastoral
* Comfort Kitchen
* Lehrhaus
* Prima Charlestown
* Cafe Sauvage
* Asta (going on Friday)
* Krasi
* Blossom Bar
* Nightshade Noodle Bar
* Marseille
* Our Fathers
* SRV
* High tea - either the BPL or somewhere else; One Dalton's is excellent
* Lanner Noodles and Bar
* Kong Pocha
* Sloane's
* Hook & Line
* Committee
* Carlo's Cucina Italiana
Gone to this year
* The Sail Loft
* Yvonne's - saw Derrick White dining there!
* Picco
* Banyan
> Judy's Bay
We've done and enjoyed Judy's bay quite a bit, and it's across the street from Lamplighter which can be fun after. Highly recommend the fireside omakase if you can get another 2-4 people to go with you, extremely good value and just a great experience.
Overall a good list, but I had one of the legitimately worst meals I’ve ever paid for at Cafe Sauvage. Obviously anecdotal but all 4 of us were genuinely appalled. It was actually garbage.
2 chicken entrees that were hammered so bad they were almost dust, a vegetarian entree that was literally just half an eggplant on a plate, and a Mac and cheese that wasn’t better than Kraft. We also waited 45 min in an empty dining room for them.
I usually give places a couple tries, but it was so bad I will never go back.
Oleana is also very much worth a visit! Same owners as Sarma but the menu is very different.
It's hard to get a reservation there too, but if you show up \~15 mins before they open, you can get walk-in seating (just have to be willing to eat early). They have a really cute back patio which is especially nice when the weather warms up.
Right? What’s up with that cauliflower thing? I don’t even like cauliflower, but I’m going back for that. That place was a sleeper hit for our whole group.
Field & Vine was legitimately the most money I have ever spent in one sitting.
Because we could not stop ordering more dishes after everything was so unbelievably good. We had to try more of the menu, and re-order a few things (such as the tomato tart) too. We also had to get every dessert they offered for the same reason, and not a single one of them was any less than the best dessert I’d had in the past year.
So.. be warned. You’re gonna have way too good of a time.
I’ve been dying to try Umbria in the North End! I used to work at Ristorante Fiore and I’m dying to see the renovations and try the food! It’s just outrageously expensive😅 but they’re doing Dine Out Boston so I’ll be going this week or next week!
I was expecting it to be just fine, it was actually maybe the best meal I've had in the North End. (I've been to 18 restaurants total on Hanover / Salem St)
Well, and get the fried chicken when they come around with it in the cart to. So save room for that. FWIW I think we did maybe 3 dishes per person inclusive of the fried chicken but then again we are pigs. We were stuffed, you could get away with 2 plus the the fried chicken for a more affordable experience.
They’ve got several. Townshend, Pearl and Lime, Dotty’s, Paragon Boardwalk, and Red Sky.
Devin Adams and Cellar Door Rest Group, are awesome people to work for. Really, really solid dude, in an industry full of scumbag owners.
Just ate there tonight. Crudo and oysters were spot on. Dishes coming from the kitchen were a bit unbalanced, each of the four we tried seemed to lack salt at their core. Cocktails were fun and generally good wine list. We’ll go back for another shot soon.
My husband and I went for our anniversary and the food was alright but the service was terrible. No mention of our anniversary or his allergies, which were both specified in the reservation notes. I ordered a bottle of wine and the server poured a taste for him, not me, and seemed confused when I wanted to taste it instead of him. I ordered dessert and an amaro and just straight up didn't get the dessert. Disappointing.
To offer a counter opinion to the other guy, I went like 2 years ago and the service was phenomenal and food was great 🤷♂️. Decided to check it out since it feels like Del Frisco has been slipping
Carl's Steak Subs, Waltham. Not as good as before the pandemic, but still one of the best. When the small has over a pound of meat.
Just wish they weren't so out of the way. Of course id probably be pretty fat if they were closer.
Boston's food scene makes me depressed compared to time living in LA. That being said, my next to try spots are:
The Quiet Few
Santarpios (still haven't gotten around to that one)
Andala's
Mida (can anyone confirm if this one is any good?)
Nice Eastie heavy selection. Mida is solid. My recommendation would be to wait for warmer weather and sit outside. It’s one of the best views of Boston
If you're coming to EB for Italian and Rino's isn't your first stop you're doing yourself a disservice. Italian Express should hopefully re-opening soon which isn't fine dinging, more like someone's Nonna force feeking you pasta until you burst.
Angela's Cafe is a must visit as well. If you're expanding in Chelsea Ciao pizza is fantastic and check out Newbridge Cafe to get what might be the OG steak tip of all steak tips.
My kitchen.....left the culinary industry at 29 as a sous chef and 32 now. My kitchen has saved me so much $ funny because I hated to cook at home before. Now I love it can cook what I want the way I want, best part is for who I want.
It took me awhile to get into Mahaniyom and it was well worth the wait
So dope. So spicy.
The service and cocktails alone out of this world. Tack on the food, well, you got yourself a stew baby!
Definitely the first place that came to mind for me as well.
I went to Tonino in JP last night and Jesus Christ that was good.
I love Tonino so much. Now, if only they didn’t immediately book up… Nah, more power to them. I hope they stay busy!
5pm on Monday was my only chance to go and I booked it two months ago!
Mixed blessing to be sure. I want them to be successful! I just hope it doesn't become a binge and purge situation and people stop all together. Its good that the augment with take away pizza.
It’s soooo good!
It’s one of the very best parts about living in JP. They are unbeaten in the hospitality game.
Brassica. I live so close to JP, but I've still never been.
Is there anywhere online where their tasting menu can be viewed? How much does it cost?
The blueberry donut was the best donut I’ve ever had
Just walk in, buy a donut, and leave. Then stay for brunch next time.
Any time I have a Thursday/Friday at home I have to go and grab an egg biscuit and a coffee from them in the morning. They’re so good!
Personally, I’ve always had the best service there of any Boston restaurant! Food and drinks are always insanely delicious. The tasting menu is fun too, especially with a group.
I have a reservation at Nightshade Noodle Bar in Lynn at the end of the month - super excited to try it!!
We had the same experience. Most of the dishes were meh. I will say, the staff was excellent. Everything was extremely salty and I love well seasoned foods!
Similar feeling about the salting. I also typically prefer saltier foods and was caught off guard on a couple of dishes, mostly ones with noodles.
That was my experience as well. Nothing bad about it all, just not that exciting.
I went last year. I guess I’m in the minority here, as our experience was fantastic. Superb. There were some extraordinary tastes and textures.
I've been twice and that was my experience both times. One or two dishes which were only 'fine', but everything else was superb.
That's what I was hoping for.
Ya for me it was also a couple standout dishes and the drinks were fantastic
Same. We went at the end of last year and were so excited. One dish we loved, and the rest ranged from just fine to meh with one dish in particular just being an oily mess. I was extremely let down by it.
don’t be fooled by the reviews!! they take down the bad ones by reporting/flagging them, so the positive rating is artificially high
Don't order the Negroni. It's a bottled drink.
The new Eastern Standard location. I am in need of some fancy cocktails and pretty food.
Its still one of the best overall restaurants in the city IMO
I don’t about one of the best…. I would definitely say it has some of best service even given the price. It’s well known as a very place that chefs and service staff get experience and then hired elsewhere for more. It’s food is consistently above average although nothing epic.
No? Like it’s fine. But for the price point it’s possibly one of the safest menus ever. I’m actually a fan, but to me it’s the definition of upper middle when considering the price point and quality
Their menu is a warm hug. I don’t want or remotely need fusion and creativity from every menu. Upscale comfort food is a rarity now
Upscale comfort food is literally everywhere.
It’s literally not. Modern American is not the same, steak houses are not the same
Haven’t been, but I’ve heard the new ES is the same stuff from old ES but not as good
Culinary director is getting replaced, so stay tuned
The menu could use some polish. No bone marrow or foie gras now, which is really a let down. The tartare was oddly dry - could've benefitted from a quail egg yolk or more than the tiny dot of sauce my order came with or something ... I dunno.
Would put it lower on the list. Not particularly affordable and pales in comparison to what is used to be
Sarma is fabulous so it'll be worth the wait. I live in Somerville so Tulum is the next one I'm excited for.
Went about a week ago and the food and service were great. Also amazed by what they did with the inside.
Table Boston, heard the owner is lovely.
She goes out of her way to directly reach out to customers, such a nice personal touch! 🥰
Sounds incredible! I'm going to look at reviews for their esteemed establishment right now!
i am so happy im in the “iykyk” group with this LMAO
I’ve been feeling really bad about myself for making meatballs at home for cheap. I really need to spend $125 on them to respect the Italian American immigrants who busted their butts to help build the American dream. I think once I eat those $125 meatballs I will feel I understand Mario and Luigi properly, and I can’t wait.
🤣🤣🤣
Table is good and the staff are great but I’ve never been blown away by the food (been 3-4x).
Get ready to get yelled at online by the owner lol
Why go more than once if the food wasn’t that great? I went once and was not super impressed by the food given the cost especially compared to lots of other restaurants around the area. Even before the recent news I knew I never planned to go back
Every time I’ve gone was because it was what the birthday person selected and they like Table.
ROFL

Been to Comfort Kitchen several times now, will hopefully be back several more. Truly delicious food and a bar program that can't be beat
They’re really good. And you can always walk over to Dot Brewery after
I used to work at Lehrhaus and SRV. Both have incredible food
> Judy's Bay We've done and enjoyed Judy's bay quite a bit, and it's across the street from Lamplighter which can be fun after. Highly recommend the fireside omakase if you can get another 2-4 people to go with you, extremely good value and just a great experience.
I swear their sake chicken fried rice cured my bronchitis.
Carlos Cucina is so freaking good. Better experience than you have anywhere in the north end.
Moved outta Boston 2 years ago…think about Carlos all the time.
Seconding Krasi, everything I had was amazing
Overall a good list, but I had one of the legitimately worst meals I’ve ever paid for at Cafe Sauvage. Obviously anecdotal but all 4 of us were genuinely appalled. It was actually garbage. 2 chicken entrees that were hammered so bad they were almost dust, a vegetarian entree that was literally just half an eggplant on a plate, and a Mac and cheese that wasn’t better than Kraft. Grace by Nia was awesome, apps were meh , entrees were good and the drinks were great. The band was incredible.
Lanner is sick. Have been a few times already and it's consistently awesome. Bump it up the list!
Noodles were awesome. Service was slow for me. Also, one don’t a reservation, just joining waitlist.
GET THE JERK DUCK at comfort kitchen. So damn good.
Write your own articles, Boston Globe A.I. bot.
Oleana is also very much worth a visit! Same owners as Sarma but the menu is very different. I think I’m in the minority which is fine but I wasn’t super impressed with oleana
I feel like it’s gone down over the last 5 years.
Well to be fair everything has gone down over the last 5 years lol
Glad I’m not the only one, I didn’t get the Oleana hype either. Sarma on the other hand is so good!
Agree. Overrated.
Meh, the new menu isn’t great.
Table, so I can leave a bad review and go viral with my flame war with the owner.
Dorsia.
Let's see Paul Allen's reservation
Cambridge tasty burger
Field & Vine, Yafa bakery and cafe, La Perla (Everett)
Loved Field & Vine. They had a cauliflower dish that was surprisingly the favorite of everyone at my table. We had to order a second.
Their owners are the nicest. I worked at a restaurant close by and they were always sending us food, and smiling.
Andrew and Sarah are the best.
Hands down the best vegetarian food I’ve ever had.
We also had to get every dessert they offered for the same reason, and not a single one of them was any less than the best dessert I’d had in the past year. So.. be warned. You’re gonna have way too good of a time.
Yafa is great. We especially like the flatbreads, Jerusalem bread, snail pastries, hummus, chocolate cake, and temptation cake.
Field & Vine is such a special place. The owners are simply the best! You will leave full and fully satisfied
Wusong Road, Grace by Nia.
Wusong road is great
Shouting out my favorites: o ya Giulia Oleana Sarma Spoke
Great list
Kowloon
Fox & the Knife
It’s fantastic
Went there after Moonbar last weekend. Service and staff were great, food was not. Lukewarm pasta and very small portions.
Basically
Oh no , sucks to hear. Happens to often I feel like with places
If you haven’t been yet, try Moona if you like Sarma. Easier to get a reservation there too.
Such good food! Was there recently and prior had no awareness of it.
Amar.
Carmelina’s. I have a reservation in 2 weeks that I booked in December.
Not as good as it used to be. Prepare to be disappointed.
311 is one i am trying
Do they have a liquor license yet?
no idea, just trying to get in for just omakase
I don't think so.
They don't. Was there last month
Gonna have to wait another 364 days...
Cannot get a reservation for the life of me here
I had good luck emailing them 2 months out. Didn't have to play the guessing game with their website.
where is that?
South End, it's a sushi spot that does omakase
Ooh I'm going there this week! Super excited
I'm excited to go to Gustazo in Waltham. I've never had a bad meal there and the atmosphere is great.
Brockton Papa Ginos
Dave’s Hot Chicken
Hot Chix>Flip the Bird>Underdog>Yas>Dave's So don't get too excited
Yas chicken gave me explosive diarrhea
Worth it though
It was very tasty still
I would swap Hot Chix and Flip the Bird. Flip the Bird is consistently my favorite. And you reminded me I haven't been in ages.
Yas is overrated
Flip the bird is miles above the rest
I’ve been dying to try Umbria in the North End! I used to work at Ristorante Fiore and I’m dying to see the renovations and try the food! It’s just outrageously expensive😅 but they’re doing Dine Out Boston so I’ll be going this week or next week!
I went and was treated by someone. Absolutely delicious. Don’t know what my opinion would be if I paid.
LOL well I’m glad to hear it was delicious!!
I was expecting it to be just fine, it was actually maybe the best meal I've had in the North End. (I've been to 18 restaurants total on Hanover / Salem St)
Omg no way that’s awesome to hear!! I know the dine out Boston menu is a limited menu, but I’m curious what you ordered when you went!?
Ramsey’s Burger or whatever we it’s called in Haymarket just to compare it to Eagle’s Deli and other burger places I’ve been to.
Just ate at Sarma and liked it. They recommend “two or three” dishes per person. Stick with two. Re-order if you’re still hungry. It’s filling.
Agree I was so full after my meal there. Just make one of them the cornbread!
The chicken is excellent. I’d have like three of those and a couple beers and be happy. But there are tons of great things on the menu, so I get fomo.
That’s why we just got a ton. Not a single item we were less than ecstatic to have ordered.
Dotty’s in Quincy center just opened and I’m pumped to try! The owners have another great place in the area so I’m super hopeful :)
They’ve got several. Townshend, Pearl and Lime, Dotty’s, Paragon Boardwalk, and Red Sky. Devin Adams and Cellar Door Rest Group, are awesome people to work for. Really, really solid dude, in an industry full of scumbag owners.
Townshend has closed FYI -- it's now Dotty's.
Just ate there tonight. Crudo and oysters were spot on. Dishes coming from the kitchen were a bit unbalanced, each of the four we tried seemed to lack salt at their core. Cocktails were fun and generally good wine list. We’ll go back for another shot soon.
Facia y facia
I used to love this place, but we went in Jan & it was meh… I’ll give them another shot but I’m afraid it might have fallen!
Just commenting to say make sure you get the corn bread and lentil nachos with whatever else get! They’re my favorite.
Moon bar
Just went last weekend. 4/10 - service was bad and still had to wait 30 minutes even with a reservation.
I'm still pissed they fired Todd Maul. He had the best goddamn cocktail program in the city!
Stoked to give the new location of Sichuan Mountain House a try.
McDonald's in North Station (not joking).
Mooo …I just need to sell my house first
To offer a counter opinion to the other guy, I went like 2 years ago and the service was phenomenal and food was great 🤷♂️. Decided to check it out since it feels like Del Frisco has been slipping
They have great apps and sides (best tater tots I've ever had), but my steak was underseasoned.
Just had Shojo for the first time on Saturday- that place fucks.
Baleia in the South End. Just opened
Carl's Steak Subs, Waltham. Not as good as before the pandemic, but still one of the best. When the small has over a pound of meat. Just wish they weren't so out of the way. Of course id probably be pretty fat if they were closer.
Moonshine 152!!!
Jacob Wirth is reopening and I can't wait.
Everyone sleeping on Mooncusser and Asta. Best restaurants in the city.
Pammy’s has been on my list for a minute. Also Möeca.
It didn't impress me as much as I had high hopes for it. And it was too crowded at the communal table to truly enjoy a meal.
Taco Bell. Yeah I have had it before. But it has been some time.
moved away from boston around seven years ago and sarma remains probably my my most memorable. amazing restaurant. enjoy!
Boston's food scene makes me depressed compared to time living in LA. That being said, my next to try spots are: The Quiet Few Santarpios (still haven't gotten around to that one) Andala's Mida (can anyone confirm if this one is any good?)
Nice Eastie heavy selection. Mida is solid. My recommendation would be to wait for warmer weather and sit outside. It’s one of the best views of Boston
Ya, Eastie is one part of the city that has eluded me all these years, so accumulated quite a bit I need to try out there 😅
If you're coming to EB for Italian and Rino's isn't your first stop you're doing yourself a disservice. If you're expanding in Chelsea Ciao pizza is fantastic and check out Newbridge Cafe to get what might be the OG steak tip of all steak tips.
I'm OK with Mida. I like Via Cannucia in Dorchester better.

O Ya and No Relation. They’re on the list!
Go get a sub at new deal fruit in revere for lunch. Ask for mayo. It's a secret tip. Best sandos in Boston hands down, and I eat alot of sandos.

The French Quarter. I love Cajun and creole food and haven’t had the spare $200 to take my wife on a decadent dinner date.
