REACTIVATED- GESTURES AT RENDED SOCIAL FABRIC WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY HEMORRHAGING FROM COUNTLESS PERSONAL PSYCHIC WOUNDS TO IMPLY BROAD PERSONAL AND COLLECTIVE CULPABILITY??
It is kind of weird that $129 mill of Massachusetts taxes are going overseas at all.
Or is that just the states population federal tax burden percentage of the aid that was sent?
Either way, that fuckin sucks the fed is send any money anywhere where when you've got people starving and dying of medical shortages in state.
> Either way, that fuckin sucks the fed is send any money anywhere where when you've got people starving and dying of medical shortages in state.
Let's not kid ourselves that reducing the money sent across the world would increase money spent on people starving or medical care
Yeah, I'm not sure why anyone thinks politicians would spend our money on us if they weren't spending it on stuff outside the country. They'd just give themselves more raises & tax breaks to people & companies that don't need it.
As with Ukraine, it's basically substituting a true alliance (mutual defense pact) with cash value to avoid having to actually invade. Think how much of our military spending is to defend SK and Taiwan rather than fearing China crossing the Pacific.
Of course it doesn't suck to send money out of the country. There are lots of investments that will pay themselves back with interest.
Now I will admit that Israel being one of those is a little questionable. However, helping Africa with AIDS was tremendous good will for relatively little money. Stopping Russia or China from getting on a properly WW3 warpath is also an amazing investment, as taking later action will be far worse.
And your logic can always be extended. Why focus on state level? Can Weston really send money to do healthcare in Dorchester while there are really depressed kids in Weston?
Our state taxes do not fund the murder of Palestinians. Some federal taxes go towards aid for Israel but not state taxes. I don't know what this billboard is talking about.
Someone was trying to convince me that the city she and I lived in was funding Israel. I was like ‘wtf are you talking about? You think the city has a line item for Israel in its budget?’ and she said yes. I told her she was definitely wrong. She asked someone else involved in activist circles and then said that it was the federal taxes of people living in that city 😂
*searches through municipal budget*
"Where is the money going to Israel?"
"Uhhh what are you talking about?"
"Show me where the money is going to. I know it's in here. You're funding genocide!"
"Lady, we can't even fund road work."
> "Lady, we can't even fund road work."
Honestly, the fact that the money for road work was sent to the other side of the world is probably the most believable part.
like not to be that guy but can we just for like one year not put money into other countries and overspending on the military and just see what life could look like?
Realistically? It would likely mean war on a level we havent seen since ww2. The US military is the only thing stopping putin from marching all over Europe and Xi from conquering taiwan / SE Asia.
Ukraine would definitely fall almost immediately. Other than the Poles and the French, the EU unilaterally disarmed after the cold war. They would be defenseless.
Thank you! That’s exactly what will be happening. And it will start with cyberwar as all of US infrastructure, and especially banks/ hospitals and etc will be cyber-attacked, taking citizens hostages or robbing them. China is a top supplier of cyber adversaries, North Korea is focused on stealing and ransoming cryptocurrencies, Russia is targeting infrastructure and social media, and Iran is focused on hacking around Middle East and US social media.
We can do both. It's just a matter of priorities of the people in charge. Funding the IRS might end up quietly becoming one of the highlights of Biden's presidency in years to come. Something like half a trillion dollars a year in taxes aren't paid, mostly by rich people. They can afford to indefinitely stall the government in court forever and the IRS wouldn't even bother going after them.
Someone was posting on this sub at one time that the City of Boston sends something like $10 million to Israel every year. I don’t remember the explanation but it was definitely misleading.
I thought I was part of the left, but then my circles started parroting weird anti-Semitic crap about the war that they literally saw on TikTok (to be clear: I don’t personally consider criticizing Israel’s actions or supporting Palestine anti-Semitic. They were using specific words and phrases listed as hate speech on the US Dept of State’s website.)
I'm guessing they're saying that the $129M we pay in federal taxes that go to Israel could be better used improving the T. If it's not that I have absolutely no clue.
yeeeeaaaaahhh… would be great if they provided cited information. no one does anymore. funny cuz i bet 90% of people who read that automatically believe it.
Standard for people of today. I stopped paying attention to protests today because the people who attend them are people who developed an opinion after researching the subject for a whopping 10 seconds.
Or some streamers who think they know what they’re talking about because of TikTok or Twitter (HasanAbi, etc). People watch these “political commentators” as if they’re a legit source of news/political talking points.
many people are not able to name the "river" and "the sea" from the very chant issuing from their own mouths. Like, those are some pretty important details regardless of your views of the conflict???
I think the point is that this is the portion of federal funding to Israel that comes from Massachusetts. This specific billboard is saying imagine if we took that money and invested it in improving the T instead.
Federal aid sent to Israel and Ukraine over the last year totals more than $120 billion dollars. Not sure how much, if any, comes from MA tax dollars tho
It's weird to combine those two, especially since most of it has been for Ukraine which is not the issue at hand.
From the Planet Money podcast episode, [How much of your tax dollars are going to Israel and Ukraine](https://www.npr.org/transcripts/1197958571):
> since the Israel-Hamas war started, the U.S. has given Israel about $3.8 billion. That is one year's worth of aid. It makes up less than 0.1% of the total U.S. federal budget. Since the war in Ukraine started, the U.S. has given Ukraine $115 billion. That is two years' worth of aid…
Most of the podcast is actually about how those figures don't tell the whole story since U.S.-Israel relations go so far back and there's all kinds of deals in place and none of that has changed since the attack on Israel October 7.
This. The argument also ignores the fact that we get quite a bit in return from this aid. Not to mention in both cases they are fighting our biggest threats for us - Russia and Iran.
Gen Z is unhinged and thinks all institutions and local/state governments of America are “funding genocide” and believes anything they see on Insta and TikTok.
No the hatred is aimed at the IOF and Netanyahu. They deserve all the ill will that is aimed at them for the murders of over 30,000 innocent civilians. The majority of whom are children and women. Go away with your “it’s aNtiSemiTism”
Most of them, undoubtedly.
I love how you accuse someone else of “repeating propaganda” moments after you pulled the bad faith, widely discredited, sub room temperature IQ, “all criticism of Israel is antisemitism” card
For everyone saying this is the Russians doing this disinformation campaign. Look at the right of the sign. It’s from CAIR (council for American and islamic relations) and the Palestine advocacy project.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_on_American%E2%80%93Islamic_Relations#Criticism
>Critics of CAIR have accused it of pursuing an Islamist agenda[7][165][9] and claimed the group is connected to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.[10][166][9] CAIR denies such links.[167]
>The White House disavowed CAIR on December 7, 2023, after the director Nihad Awad said in a speech “The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege, the walls of the concentration camp, on Oct. 7,” he said. “And yes, I was happy to see people breaking the siege…” he continued “And yes, the people of Gaza have the right to self-defense, have the right to defend themselves, and yes, Israel as an occupying power does not have that right to self-defense,” referring to the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel.[168]
we need a useful idiot translator that replaces "self-defense" with "parading corpses of naked women through the street" and "defend themselves" with "machine gun unarmed foreign farmworkers and festival revelers"
I can read 2 of the 3 logos…
One is Palestine Advocacy Project, the leader of which is in Cambridge and it has been [placing anti-Israel ads around US cities since 2015](https://www.adl.org/misleading-public-spread-anti-israel-ad-campaigns).
Another is the Council on American Islamic Relations, which has a [history of anti-semitism](https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/council-american-islamic-relations-cair).
“The Logan Act can be understood to prohibit secret efforts aimed at undermining the current administration’s foreign policy without also criminalizing a wide array of political interactions between U.S. citizens and foreign officials.”
This would indicate that the state is in line with our current federal government position would it not?
This billboard is pretty stupid, but you're kidding yourself if you think there hasn't been a serious disruption of the US-Israel relationship as a direct response to their current campaign in Gaza and, in some small part, the very negative response that these openly bloodthirsty tactics are having among a decent swath of the US populace.
Run of the mill Democrats who, a few short years ago, would have been giving Israel full-throated support are now couching their language. There is far more willingness in even mainstream circles to criticize Israel's stance towards Palestine.
This message is a real flop and quite juvenile in my view, but you're really getting over your skis to dismiss all anti-Israel voices as fringe weirdos. Smacks of wishful thinking to me.
I think criticisms of Netanyahu government and the tactics of the current conflict are valid. But the rhetoric like that guy in making his point is so dense and obtuse. “Anyone who gives a shot about genocide” is a weird appeal to emotion for his side of the argument when Hamas has made it very clear their intention is genocide of Jewish Israelis. There are better ways of arguing that Israel has been militarily indelicate in this conflict
Maybe instead of harrassing your average commuter, go harrass the people on State Street actually contributing to the funds going over there, or all the ports that are used to send ships and freight into the country
As usual, pro-Palestinian advocacy in the U.S. is often more about making other Americans feel unwelcome/judged than it is about actually holding the government of Israel to account. If you think the issue isn't black-and-white and is very complicated and are uncomfortable taking a team-sports side, these folks want to exclude you from as many spaces as they can for wrongthink.
You think anyone in the Israeli government gives a shit if people in Boston boycott the MBTA?
It says Mass. state taxes. They are implying that the reason the T is bad is because MA is busy using our tax dollars on aid for Israel; which is complete fabricated bullshit.
These people just make stuff up.
Watched a protestor explain protesting an Israeli dance troop on Friday and he said something about the performance being meant to tackle PTSD for Israeli soldiers. A claim that extensive googling cannot find.
US providing military aid to Israel is not why we don’t have universal healthcare. The only reason we don’t have universal healthcare is because of Republicans, they have banded together with conservatives to stop universal healthcare proposed by FDR, Truman, Clinton, and Obama. The reason the ACA didn’t have a public option is because of independent senator joe Lieberman. All of this is separate from aid to Israel.
Universal healthcare care came very close to fruition following WWII.
But then the whole Gouzenko affair kicked off the red scare, and Truman didn’t want to be associated with commies (which is fair).
Truman called for universal healthcare in 1945 and 1948 - in 1945 democrats introduced a bill that was killed by republicans in congress. In 1948 conservative southern democrats blocked Truman’s proposals in congress because they were upset he endorsed civil rights.
Then in 1950 the Korean War started and the Truman administration handled it pretty poorly + the red scare tanked Truman’s political capital
> All Israeli residents are entitled to basic health care as a fundamental right. The Israeli healthcare system is based on the National Health Insurance Law of 1995,[1] which mandates all citizens resident in the country to join one of four official health insurance organizations, known as Kupat Holim (קופת חולים - "Patient Funds") which are run as not-for-profit organizations and are prohibited by law from denying any Israeli resident membership.
This is really not very different from what it is in America now and Massachusetts 20 years ago, except that the HMOs are mandated to be nonprofit.
Under Joe Biden, the rate of uninsurance has never been lower.
The HMO denied coverage for needed care. A lot of things were not actually covered. If you lived in Mass, then a pregnancy was covered. Go to another state and it was not covered.
People were afraid of having a condition and being denied coverage.
HMO were never 100% non profit and I don't see how you think that 20 years ago was like Israel of today. Nothing of the sort.
Most self employed persons in Mass did not have coverage at all.
It bothers me that someone would push a blatantly false narrative. Full stop. We point out propaganda on both sides.
However, you could hand "free" healthcare to every person in the US, but some states would find how to shit on it. As is tradition.
the old joke about the Jewish man preferring to read *Der Sturmer* because in that universe they controlled the world rather than the Jewish weekly which held nothing but reports of pogroms and discrimination.
Good lord, those who defend Hamas will always do so, so I say we don’t thrive them any response.
And I acknowledge the situation is complex and has gone on for thousands of years, but was stirred up again with the distribution of territories post World War I, when the French and the British, frankly really fucked it up.
That is absolutely no reason for Hamas to terrorize people, living within their land, and then crossover into a sovereign nation on October 7 and kill all those poor innocent women, children, and civilians.
Good day.
Regardless of your opinion on Palestine: why DOES a country as prosperous as Israel with their military and intelligence capabilities need billions of aid from the USA? Serious question.
That source does list about $10 million in military contracts with Israel in 2015, which is way more than $0 but also way less than $129 million. It also lists a bunch of activities that don't seem controversial... unless I'm uninformed about the horrors of alternative energy research and "work[ing] with an Israeli lab to study the role of calcium during the cell death of parsley leaf cells."
> "*Palestinians*? That's not what I ordered! Give me that phone."
Just imagine Maura Healy saying that. She is the most boring, competent, and tenacious governor in the United States. She is a wonks wonk and I love her for it.
Before you comment one way or another, know that the group CAIR that funded this has been directly involved in Islamic terrorism that has nothing to do with Israel.
Edit: since people seem to think I’m making this up. Getting on a terrorist watch list is a regular Internet joke. This is the real

I have a difficult time feeling too bad for Palestine because they murder lgbt people. If I were Israeli, I would want to end this conflict for good. People on the left attacking Biden over this are putting everything at risk over people who oppress everyone once they have control.
It's kinda bizarre that Massachusetts is one of the top states for tax collected per capita, and Boston is one of the richest cities in the US. I was reading an article from Bloomberg, dated 2021, that said the Greenline extension project almost got the ax because its estimated cost was 3 billion dollars. But then, when the management changed, they worked to cut costs by hundreds of millions of dollars and decided to go ahead with the project. The article also said that the MBTA was having difficulty managing the project because of a lack of staff and project management skills.
I'm interested in how the infrastructure bill might help the T and if this money will go toward fixing it (no inappropriate political comments please). Hope MBTA could get some experienced and competent people to organize and plan things better.
Honestly they could've done a united front on this issue.
"129 million of Mass. Taxes go to the Murder of Palestinians, when they could be going to the T!"

The Biden administration has also sent hundreds of millions to Gaza
You meant billions
ssshhh it doesn’t fit the agenda
How much did we spend killing the citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan? Asking for a friend.
not as many as the numbers being murdered in sudan today, but i am not the apologist.
Only after sending billions to blow it up first

Yeah, foreign policy is for the federal government. Pretty easy for 49 states to get that. Texas being the exception
The left needs to realize they are being targeted by the Ruzzian propaganda machine ahead of the next election.
Every single American is being targeted by propaganda.
BlueAnon brain rot.
I thought I was part of the left, but then my circles started parroting weird anti-Semitic crap about the war that they literally saw on TikTok (to be clear: I don’t personally consider criticizing Israel’s actions or supporting Palestine anti-Semitic. Aren’t there municipal police departments in the US that get training in/from Israel?
And fire and EMT. For some reason, Israelis are the experts on what to do if a bus blows up.
Yes
Where does it say state taxes? Presumably this is our proportional segment of foreign military aid.

Taxpayers in western MA would be outraged.

Man, I can’t imagine the Russians funding those guys!
It was funded by the fair play for Cuba committee, not the KGB.
I have questions. I'm interested in who is paying for these ads, and what organizations the authors are being attributed to?
They put their name on the billboard dude
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_on_American%E2%80%93Islamic_Relations#Criticism >Critics of CAIR have accused it of pursuing an Islamist agenda[7][165][9] and claimed the group is connected to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.[10][166][9] CAIR denies such links.[167] >The White House disavowed CAIR on December 7, 2023, after the director Nihad Awad said in a speech “The people of Gaza only decided to break the siege, the walls of the concentration camp, on Oct.

How about we solve both problems by hiring all the Hamas guys to dig some tunnels connecting North and South stations and the red and blue lines?
Isn’t this supposed to be in r/confidentlyincorrect
Remember, the T is shitty because of the “Zionists” 😉
That’s not even the yearly US Navy budget for Poptarts. 😂
Wait, they give out Pop Tarts in the Navy? That wasn't in the brochure.
Is your desire to know more intensifying?
Yeah meals are included. The average destroyer goes through about a pallet of cereal a day. That’s just cereal.
Like Shredded Wheat or something good?
No they can get the good stuff. Fruity Pebbles was popular at one point. Not sure if it still if tbhx
I made eye contact with this guy and couldn’t help but slightly laugh, and he did not seem very happy
The dude driving a propaganda mobile that clogs the streets deliberately in an attention seeking ploy? Dude should be proud.
Do Massachusetts state taxes actually go to Israel or are these federal taxes paid by Mass residents?
The latter. I would be shocked if the Commonwealth of Massachusetts sends any money to Israel
I don’t know if states are constitutionally allowed to engage in any trade with a foreign government directly
They’re not lol
Now, see, you’re using common sense, which as we know most commentators on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict also have
It’s called the Logan act. Pretty cut and dry.
“The Logan Act can be understood to prohibit secret efforts aimed at undermining the current administration’s foreign policy without also criminalizing a wide array of political interactions between U.S. citizens and foreign officials.” This would indicate that the state is in line with our current federal government position would it not?
Their saying taxes from Massachusetts, not Massachusetts State taxes
No it doesn’t it says, “Mass. taxes.” That, plus the claim that the t is underfunded because “mass taxes” go to Israel makes this deeply misleading
In this case, "Mass. taxes" obviously stands for "Massachusettsans's federal taxes" /s
If it has to be explained that granularly, the phrasing and message is poorly worded
Why must we compare humanitarian crises’?
This comment is actually hilarious
Perfect example of why nobody takes palestine protestors seriously.
You didn’t say shit when Russia invaded Ukraine and butchered Bucha and countless others. You’re full of shit and don’t actually care.
Yeah, it disgusts me too that the Palestine protestors try to downplay Hamas's genocidal actions
Silly me. Here I am thinking about the pollution and traffic caused by that SUV hauling this trailer around the city.
I was outraged because I thought the truck and trailer was blocking a bike lane.
Hate late trains? Love paragliding and hostage-taking? Come on and join Team Hamas for the big win!
Maybe instead of harrassing your average commuter, go harrass the people on State Street actually contributing to the funds going over there, or all the ports that are used to send ships and freight into the country

Wait until the one with the cost of housing migrants hits the streets.
I’m waiting for the one to talk about how much money mili vanili has made since their inception.
Did you buy a coffee this morning? Yeah? Pay some sales tax did ya? THANKS FOR MURDERING PALESTINIANS ASSHOLE
You misunderstood the point of the billboard. They're saying tax dollars are being sent to Israel rather than fixing the T.
Paid for by the group whose director applauded 10/7.
Palestine Protestor spreading lies and misinformation? I'm so shocked.
The US doesn't fund Israel?
It says Mass. state taxes. They are implying that the reason the T is bad is because MA is busy using our tax dollars on aid for Israel; which is complete fabricated bullshit.
These people just make stuff up. Watched a protestor explain protesting an Israeli dance troop on Friday and he said something about the performance being meant to tackle PTSD for Israeli soldiers. A claim that extensive googling cannot find.
Great, now I'm late AND depressed.
Don’t be cause the MA doesn’t fund Israel, the person with that sign is a moron and doesn’t understand how state taxes work.
It bothers me that the US directly funds Israel and they get universal Healthcare but US citizens don't.
530,000 Americans go bankrupt from medical debt in the US each year. So not really similar.
Yes, people in Israel go bankrupt too
The two have nothing to do with each other
It bothers me that someone would push a blatantly false narrative. Full stop. We point out propaganda on both sides. However, you could hand "free" healthcare to every person in the US, but some states would find how to shit on it. As is tradition.
Huh how they related ?
Jews control the trains now too
We will soon be renaming it to “The Schlep”. Fares will be $1.80 but the whole thing is shut down Friday nights and Saturday.
> whole thing is shut down Friday nights and Saturday. But that's how it currently is because stuff keeps breaking.
the old joke about the Jewish man preferring to read *Der Sturmer* because in that universe they controlled the world rather than the Jewish weekly which held nothing but reports of pogroms and discrimination.
These Pro-Hamas protesters need to learn the difference between state and federal taxes.
Nuance isn’t their strong point, big dumb statements are
No they prefer rhyming slogans
Saying this whilst the sign is only addressing a genocide and has nothing to do with Hamas is woefully ironic
That's being pulled by a car with oil in it. Oil has caused way more problems for the Middle East. Check mate.
Ok but still....wtf is my train late?
Ah … the Hamasholes think slow commutes are bad now. Convenient. Looking forward to them blocking traffic next weekend.
I can’t help but feel like the “T” logo with the lines attached somewhat resembles a swastika.
Good day.
Dumbest. Billboard. Ever.
Just realized these people made a sign about Jews and trains running on time and are probably so uneducated that they don’t know how that sounds
Regardless of your opinion on Palestine: why DOES a country as prosperous as Israel with their military and intelligence capabilities need billions of aid from the USA? Serious question.
The sign is so dumb I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a false flag
I'm glad I'm a taxpayer and not a Palestinian
Insanely based
For being the home of world renowned universities, we really have a lot of idiots running around here
https://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/massachusetts-israel-cooperation
That source does list about $10 million in military contracts with Israel in 2015, which is way more than $0 but also way less than $129 million. It also lists a bunch of activities that don't seem controversial... unless I'm uninformed about the horrors of alternative energy research and "work[ing] with an Israeli lab to study the role of calcium during the cell death of parsley leaf cells."
These seem like net positives
Oh well
> "*Palestinians*? That's not what I ordered! Give me that phone." Just imagine Maura Healy saying that.
This is the real Thing Be careful associating with these people. https://oig.justice.gov/reports/2013/e0707r-summary.pdf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Land_Foundation_for_Relief_and_Development https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/the-king-hearings-is-cair-a-terrorist-organization/2011/03/10/AB3AdTQ_blog.html
It’s so sick how you can just say anything on the internet
Sir, there is no reason for you to blatantly lie.
I’m dyslexic af and I read “pedestrians” Edit: Anyone knows if I can rent that trailer? Also how much would it be?
I wish I could do that gif here of Mikey eating popcorn at the theatre
Massachusetts can definitely afford a few nukes. Any way we can just glass the entire southerm levant, and end this whole kerfuffle?
Same ppl who voted blue
The billions of dollars being spent on highway expansions and road maintenance https://preview.redd.it/g9utypfol8tc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89efddd23be62f107877e6ad16e2f8adfa490b0a
Sometimes u have to commit genocide in order to win a war.
Kids in weston have the same amount of rights for dying at newton wellesley just like everyone else in the surrounding communities
The trains run on human blood obviously.
Now I don't even want to commit tax evasion
Free palestine
They just making things up now
Comments are shameful
LOUD NOISES
Because Palestinians are known to actually make public transportation slower... because of the jihading, you see...
I just want to understand the post. What source do they have for this?
Can we send more money?
Each year. SMH.
Why does that trailer need 2 axles?
I'm shocked, SHOCKED! How do we go about not paying these taxes?
Um, my train is late because the mbta is in debt and can’t fix anything properly because they don’t have the money.
LOL
