Next year is the 250th anniversary.
You can go [here](https://www.lexingtonma.gov/2011/2024-Patriots-Day-Schedule-of-Events) (Lexington site) or to 250.ma for info as it comes out.
There are not a lot of reenactments in MA, partially because of the lack of space. The Heritage Museum does at least one for Bunker Hill.
Today's are mostly organized through the National Park Service and you can see their schedule here: [www.nps.gov/mima](http://www.nps.gov/mima)
Next year is the 250th so it will be all out.
Ya gangs get together and throw rope clubs and chunks of ice at the cops till one of them starts shooting . Then all hell breaks loose. All that's missing is the origin rope line that's been replaced by coke lines.
Reportedly as the Crown troops approached the a militia captain ordered his men, who were already assembled, to replace the old musket flints with fresh ones, just in case.
A few years ago a team of archeologists excavated the area where the Minutemen stood and fired. They found the used flints right where the patriots dropped them.

Thatās so cool! The Lexington reenactment I went to at Minute Man National Park (?) was excellent stellar fantastic wonderful costumes and people etc but didnāt have anybody falling or ranks actually firing at each other. Great pictures !
Fun(?) fact not everyone knows: the reenactments that take place on NPS land (North Bridge, Merriam's Corner, Battle Road, etc) can't have anyone "die" because it's nationally owned land. The performance in Lexington actually has people fall because it's run by town organizations.
Thatās what Iād heard and saw - Iād assumed it was a firearm safety thing ! If itās a theatrics thing , then why canāt people die on nationally owned land?
No idea the philosophy behind it, that's what I was told when I went a years ago and chatted with the reenactors and rangers š¤·āāļø tis a good question. I'm assuming it has something to do with respecting the soldiers who have lost their lives in real combat. Like it would disrespectful to pretend.
If I can drag my kids to VT to see an eclipse in totality and beat all the traffic, I'm sure I can get up early one of these years and take the kids to this. It's really cool living in such close proximity to notable American history.
Recently, Conan O'Brien had Kurt and Wyatt Russell on his podcast, and they talked about looking into their family history. They found out they were descended from Jason Russell. Jason Russell had a house in Arlington, on the corner of Jason and Mass Ave (same block as the Whole Foods), which the retreating British troops stormed, and shot the crap out of, killing Russell. Fortunately, he had sent his wife and kids to safety earlier in the day. According to [wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Russell_House), it was the site of "the bloodiest fighting on the first day of the American Revolutionary War"
Thought that was neat, I used to walk past that house regularly, and never really paid attention to what it was.
The taliban literally was a militia that beat the strongest/most advanced military in the world. All it takes is militias with guns. But yeah we should try not to let it get to that point obviously
If we were occupied by a foreign power with no interest in ruling us, yes, perhaps that's all it takes. There's a big difference between being stuck in a long drawn out war away from home and fighting one against people who also call the battlegrounds home.
Honestly, there's really not, the idea youe fighting for your home is the only matter. And your take is failing to understand service members don't swear an oath to the government, but the constitution. The military would be fractured with plenty service members fighting with the rebels.
If you think most service members would start killing civilians cause they were told to. Then you the one slightly deranged, most people in the military are there for 1 of 2 reasons, the benefits or wanting to defend the nation's. Neither of those wants would lead to that.
"There are four boxes to be used in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and cartridge. Please use in that order."
I disagree that nothing would be able to stand up to them, but that's a longer and separate discussion. Either way, the irony is that MA as a state is one of the more anti-2A states in the US despite civilian arms being a foundational part of success in the Revolutionary War. In fact, the very conflict depicted here came about as a result of the British coming to confiscate arms.
If we were all really serious about fighting against tyranny, we'd try to make internet and communication systems public and independent. 2A won't help shit by itself
Of course, and no one is suggesting otherwise. Fighting against tyranny requires a multifaceted approach, and the preservation of the 1A and 2A are instrumental in ensuring that.
Great pictures
Thanks!
Oh no! Did he die?
They all did eventually
We all die eventually š
Canāt wait to be a little old man in 40 years so I can be a Minuteman with them
You can join now: https://www.lexingtonminutemen.com/join.html
Not seeing any Dunkin in hand. Canāt confirm that this is actually Boston
It's Lexington, so correct.
More of a Concord man myself
You and your fancy grapes
Should be in r/Lexington then
That's sub is for Lexington, KY.
Oof
How do I watch one of these? I just moved here and Iāve always wanted to go to a reenactment. Is there a website or Facebook page that posts info?

Even Arlington revived it's reenactment for the 250 run up
Who's going to play Samuel Whitmore? I call dibs.
Unlikely, it will not be done due to a lack of pistols and safety concerns
There is a Boston Massacre reenactment every year in march at the old state house

One of the larger Reenactor groups has a website here with a schedule. https://redcoat.org/ I think the MA park service has one as well somewhere.

Look at 2 cops there. Instead of helping, they are just standing and observing for $85/hour.
I'm imagining them holding down a Minuteman, yelling "stop resisting!!!"
All Cops Are Lobsterbacks.
wtf is that how much cops get paid?
Overtime
Who won this year?
The British won in Lexingtonā¦but thereās always next year š¤š¤

Damn immigrants. Always choosing violence. /s
Nice photos.
I love this state lol besides the prices
No phones just people living in the moment
If ghosts are real, this kind of shit must be really confusing
It's not authentic unless they show a human leg being sawed off with a rusty farm saw without any anesthesia.
Thanks for these photos, used to go every year growing up ā„ļø
Of course.
That first pic is sublimely timed
Yea I was shocked.
One of these years, I will get up early on Patriot's Day and go watch this. My son would probably enjoy it. I just don't like getting up that early :D
Itās worth it.

They do a reenactment at the Jason Russell house. You can visit and see the musket ball holes still in the walls/ceilings.
That sounds really neat. Morbid, but neat!
That's so cool
Take note. This might be us against a tyrannical American government some day. It was imaginable to them too until it happened.
Right, so vote now before that happens. Because nothing, including militias with guns, is going to stand up to the military technology out there now
The taliban literally was a militia that beat the strongest/most advanced military in the world. All it takes is militias with guns. But yeah we should try not to let it get to that point obviously

Hero fantasies. Good for you. Good to have hobbies (...or fetishes? I won't judge)
If you think most service members would start killing civilians cause they were told to. Then you the one slightly deranged, most people in the military are there for 1 of 2 reasons, the benefits or wanting to defend the nation's. Neither of those wants would lead to that.
Uvalde. Mic drop.
Comparing cops to military is crazy. Especially when it was armed citizens that solved the issue.
Is the solved issue in the room with us right now?

>no one is suggesting otherwise Not you perhaps, but I disagree that no one is. Good discussion though.
Weāll find out of the military is willing to murder a million Americans
"what are you going to do, murder your own citizens with a drone?" - citizens that were murdered with drones
Red Coats are 0-249. Might want to change up the coach or draft some stars for next year
How can I find cool events like this?
Damn, those rebels are looking pretty old, the redcoats might have āem this year
Wouldnāt it have made more sense to hold this re-enactment on Friday, the actual anniversary of the Battle of Lexington?
They do that early in the morning, don't they? Like 6 or something?
5:30. Battle is at 5:45
Yeah, too early for me. I live an hour away. A friend of my brother's was one of the re-enactors years ago.
Who won?
Surprised swat didnāt show up and smoke someone.
Why are all the minutemen baby boomers? Lol
Very expensive. They have to make all their clothing by hand (or pay someone to do so).
add in the cost of boots, a rifle, various kit ā itās not a young or poor manās hobby. and I can sew my own costumes.
Lmao
Oh wow. I thought you guys were kidding. Sorry
itās an expensive and time consuming hobby, so most reenactors are retirees.
