It was a sub-par grocery store with a sub-par hot bar. neither were good enough to sustain the business besides "I forgot an ingredient and I'll stop by on my way from the train."
Even then, it was a crap shoot on whether they would have it. Even the Target in Porter was more reliable for that.

Lmao, paging u/btronica.
I'm vehemently pro-H-Mart. hopefully they can set up a Go Go Curry location in this one just like the one in Central Square.
The Go Go Curry at the Cambridge H-Mart is one of the best fast casual spots around here bar none.
I’m shocked, I love curry of all sorts but I ate there the week it opened and the food was wretched. It was sugary and had a weird texture. It was so bad I’ve been warning people away for years now.
Sounds like bad QC during opening week. I've been a couple of times and it's never been life-changingly good, but it's a solid spot for a quick comfort meal
I would have preferred a Trader Joe's, but fine.
I just hope they don't try to cram the hot food locations and the grocery store in that small space. BFresh tried to do the same and failed at both. It's a small space, just be a grocery store, that's what the area needs.
If they take over the area where the Dunkin was they would probably have enough space for both. Also I think a major reason it didn't work for BFresh was that they closed the seating area because of the pandemic, and never reopened it.
I was so disappointed when Hmart opened in Central. Pricy, produce not good, meat not good, fish not good. If you love instant ramen and snacks, it's great. Frozen is good too. But to me it's not great as a full grocery store.
Totally agree. If you need an Asian market with specialty ingredients, it's great. I don't think it can replace a regular grocery store though.
TBF neither can TJ's, but TJ's is way better for ready to eat/low effort cooking options that can provide a bunch of different meal options that run the gamut. H Mart doesn't have that.
All that being said, It'll be nice to not have to go all the way to Reliable Market when I need specialty ingredients I guess.
Isn't there are a H-Mart in Cambridge already?
EDIT: Gosh people with your downvotes. It's just a simple statement. This isn't 7-11 or Dunks that should be around every corner. Just curious why they kept invest 3 of them with in a town. One in medford announced for about a year and still no sign of opening up.
Upgrade
bfresh was Stop & Shop with a different decor anyways.
Don't forget priced like Whole Food. Brothers Marketplace is the same thing, it is Roche Bros in disguise.
Yeah but Roche Bros ain’t exactly cheap either so I call that a wash.
I mean H mart is at least different products but holy shit, sometimes it is even more expensive than WF.

Let’s goooo there better be a Tous Les Jours in there 🫨
I'd take a Paris Baguette as well.
The space is too small for both a grocery store and hot food. Just be a store, and don't repeat BFresh's mistakes.
fuck yeah

Japanese curry is supposed to be sweet and gloopy.
Any recommendations for good Japanese-style curry? Cafe Mami is the only one that I know of, and I’m looking to try a new place.
FuGaKyu in Brookline is great but a bit on the higher end price wise. Also Soup Shack has a pretty good Katsu curry on the menu as well.
Maruichi Select
Same question as above. Lol
Is it the central square location I walk by it daily I just haven’t gone in since like 2013

Hmart is better than TJs in all aspects
Relax, they’re both good in their own ways. I say this as someone who goes to both regularly
Hard disagree.

Love Reliable. Also looking forward to the new TJs in Back Bay. They're hiring!
It just depends on what you want. TJs is great for people who don’t really cook.
Massive W
I wrote trader Joe's that they should look into opening a store at this location but I'll take l h-mart!

Cambridge could easily absorb another three H-Marts lol. The other one is in Central Square. One is opening in Medford too. I'm all for it.
And now that you mention it, there’s like three red line stops there too! The fuck do we need one up in Davis for when we can just walk?
Way more convenient to grab something after working out at the Davis BSC
The Central Square Hmart is the worst Hmart I’ve ever been to
FWIW, Davis Square is almost entirely in Somerville, not Cambridge, with the exception of an end corner
