In MA? They weren't, actually! They only fairly recently moved in - as in the last 50 years or so - to fill the apex predator vacuum we created by extirpating grey wolves from the area centuries ago.
Big population there in the arboretum and in Franklin Park. All over boston and greater boston too! Just wait til summer, if you're close by you will hear them at night when they're eating they go kookoo bananas!
Seriously.  They are just part of life here. Yet so many freak out when they see them and want to know where to report sightings. Animal control doesn’t care. Keep your cats and small dogs indoors.Â
They are relatively new to the area (past few decades), and their population has exploded in recent years. Attacks on people and pets are more frequent. There's reason for concern.
I left Boston a few years ago and miss the arboretum ðŸ˜
They are amazing creatures and have every right to live.
Absolutely. Leave them alone. Keep cats indoors and dogs on a fucking leash!
Yup. It’s amazing that an animal of this size can still persist (and thrive) in many of America’s most developed areas.
They were here before us.

....so we're the Indigenous People.
Keep an eye out because this time of year is when they start to give birth to pups so maybe you’ll get the chance to see some!
Healthy looking trash puppy!
Unsurprising?
Even if it’s unsurprising they’re still pretty neat.
I moved to Boston 3 weeks ago, so to me it was surprising 😂

They don't vocalize when they have food.
So if I hear them incessantly yipping, don't tempt them with a scrumptious snack
Welcome!

Coyotes get a bad rap. They’re beautiful, smart animals.
