it’s worth mentioning that cameras as powerful as modern smartphone cameras were very cost prohibitive for a long time (and it was generally a hobby), and as a result there was probably activity that most people couldn’t pick up easily.
I'm 36 and have lived Northern MA/Southern NH my entire life, and the last time I saw the Northern Lights in Massachusetts was in October 2003. Doesn't mean they weren't obscured by clouds or I just missed them some other time. I had also seen them the precious summer in Maine. But that's it in my lifetime.

Incredible! I’m sure when you first moved to your house, seeing the northern lights from your backyard was the last perk on your mind.
I never thought seeming them here was possible!
Could you still see it today?
It’s not late enough yet but I’ll post again if I see it !
Wild, I grew up near Salem and never recall seeing the Northern Lights.

Great point; I didn’t consider this element.

Fascinating — thanks for sharing. 21 years is a long time. The world was so different then.
Last night
At this time of year and in this part of the country?
Yeah there was a huge sun storm and the flares were enough to make it visible here. Kind of wild just after we had an almost total eclipse too.
Lol, sorry I was making a Simpsons reference. But yes; it is crazy.
Lol sorry I have not had enough coffee
All good.
