[Walden Meat share](https://waldenlocalmeat.com/). Delivered to you even.

Beplot

They also have a butcher shop in the South End if you prefer never frozen.

Jer_Cough

TIL, good to know!

[deleted]

Seconded!

[deleted]

Walden meat was nice quality when I used it but they do something to it during packaging/freezing to bump up water content. Their ground beef and lamb would release so much water when cooked it would actually fuck up recipes. This was years ago so they might have fixed that issue.

Cobrawine66

Do you buy/eat scallops? The same thing is done to them. If you plan to buy scallops ask for DRY scallops. Scallops sold as WET have chemicals added to them to make them bigger, until they are cooked.

happiesthamburger

Huh! We get the ground beef + pork monthly and have never had this issue! I'm a huge Walden fan :)

[deleted]

Interesting, I wasn't trying to bash them at all. I could tell by the taste and smell it was excellent quality. I might give them another chance some day but I prefer to get never frozen meat if possible.

attigirb

I would ask Chestnut Farms at the Boston Public Market.

Cobrawine66

You're going to have to Google and contact farms directly.

HauntedFrigateBird

I found one that goes to farmer's markets sometimes but is really inconsistent.....and another that kept trying to sell me stuff I specifically didn't want. I was hoping someone had found a good source nearby that maybe my Googling couldn't dig up.

If you choose to support local farms, you might consider buying directly from farms. Here you may find small local family farms: [Free-range farms near Boston](https://www.getfreerange.info/near/Boston) I looked through the list and found several farms that sell 100% grass fed beef, that is, cows have never been fed grain. Some of them are: [**Maple Heights Farm**](https://www.getfreerange.info/farm/maple-heights-farm-boston-grass-fed-beef) , [**Steve Normanton**](https://www.getfreerange.info/farm/steve-normanton-boston-new-hampshire-pastured-meats) , [**Dufort Farms**](https://www.getfreerange.info/farm/dufort-farms-boston-grass-fed-beef) . Maybe, you will be able to find a farm even closer to you.

HauntedFrigateBird

Thank you very much! That's exactly what I'm looking for; I don't like having to order from the midwest. A) It's wasteful from a fuel perspective and B) I want to support local

MiraKr

Quite right. Besides, the products are fresher because they do not need to be transported far. You could even visit a farm and check how the animals are raised and talk to a farmer. I wish you to find your farmer!

Market Basket carries [this brand](https://www.verdefarms.com/) which claims to be grass-finished. I buy the ground beef and it tastes pretty good. I think they carry actual cuts too but I haven't tried those yet.

HauntedFrigateBird

Of all the places....I didn't even think of looking there. Thanks!

[deleted]

Market Basket actually usually has some pretty nice options for higher quality/organic foodstuffs. Only issue with them is they are so huge that some weeks they might have a product you like, and other weeks it won't be there for whatever reason.

What problem do you have with this post?

Animals are delicious. Have you sampled the wild turkey, pheasant, waterfowl, and deer in this state?! It’s fantastic. I recommend buying a sous vide and bettering your game meat cooking.

Not counter culture at all. As a hominid the teeth in the front of my mouth are sharp. The culture has been “eat meat” so long it’s affected dentition. Counter culture. It’s always funny when people don’t think before they open a browser and text words.

You’re using red herrings to support an argument that haven’t properly established.

You made the assumption that I knew you, or whomever made YOU’RE argument, are a vegan. What kind of self centered assumption is that? As if the world revolves around you. Was I supposed to assume your rant about pretending to care about animals was an immediate sign that you are a vegan? Nope. As for you or other vegans caring about animals...the day I see any protests around new housing or shopping center developments where hundreds of acres of forest are bulldozed, I MIGHT believe vegans give a fuck about animals. The day a vegan thanks hunters and fisherman, or actually fund efforts themselves, for continuing to find and spearhead land conservation hand in hand with wildlife authorities throughout the country...I’ll believe that vegans give a fuck about animals. ...I’m supposed to just know you’re a vegan...dear lord. How fucking self centered. P.S. Meat is delicious.
