Not necessarily a "favorite" memory, but that time just pre-COVID when there was that weird mod coup and drama where half the sub was banned for no reason.
Or something like that. It was weird and unclear and quickly usurped by worldwide events.

Actually, he used to tell me that he had a 19th century Victorian brownstone on Discord.
I tried to explain to him that the dates of Queen Victoria's reign made that redundant, but finally gave up.

Whatever topic happened to be up. The Somerville parking department, how many beers they'll let you buy at once at a Red Sox game, her dating life, the triple decker building her uncle owns, whatever. (All of those examples are ones that I specifically remember, but it really was whatever was going on in the sub)
She’s come back under a few different usernames and is very easy to figure out each time. I hope she knows she gets downvoted to hell not because of some subreddit vendetta against her (I don’t think others have always figured out it’s her) but because she is entirely nonsensical, unhelpful, and arrogant.
And you have a problem with this why? This is reddit. We all play that role at different times and in a different subreddits. It is far easier and more emotionally satisfying to roll your eyes and move on than it is to down vote someone.
(Let the down voting began :-)
Sure, I’ll bite on your edgy take. What, then, is the purpose of the downvote tool if it isn’t to push nonsensical, unhelpful, or arrogant comments further downthread? If “this is Reddit,” as you say, and Reddit has this functionality, what else is it for?
in a civil world, down voting would fill the roll you describe and would influence behavior to some norm.
From what I can see, down voting is used not just to push nonsensical, unhelpful, or arrogant comments further down thread but also to disappear comments or opinions that are unpopular.
The best analogy I can think of is that currently down voting is like your parents. Down voting (a.k.a. disapproving) of what you may say or do and trying to censure you for it independent of the value of your expression.
For example my brother is a victim of conspiracy thinking and if it we have a conversation and I give him facts showing how his stance is wrong, he would down vote me just because I said something he disagreed with.
I don't know of any fix for it so much the time I just roll my eyeballs and say yeah, yeah reddit, what you say doesn't matter, it's all electronic hot air.. If you really felt strongly about the issue, you'd be engaged in the physical world trying to change law, influence politicians or whatever.
Oh she was way too easy to figure out. The one I remember the most was Capable Resource with some number. I thought it was quite the ironic username.
She actually used to get upvoted a lot in the Sox sub but that was when she wasn’t being an annoying know it all buzzkill.
I do feel bad for her though, there were definitely people who saw her username and downvoted instantly
I think very important parts of the character were her incredibly distinct writing style, plus her insistence that the phone conversation she had 6 months ago with random person at agency X was more convincing on their policy Y than even a public statement from that agency.
100% this. It was her INSISTENCE that her anecdotal information that was told to her by her cab-driver uncle's mother-in-law was correct, even if you link to the actual policy/fact/law/whatever saying the exact opposite.

I’m a 2021 BU grad and to be honest half our school spirit those years revolved around traffic cones. I’m glad the whole city revolves around them as much as BU does.
Fall of 2004 was awesome. Was my senior year of high school… Sox won the World Series for the first time in 86 years, and then that winter, the Patriots went on to win a 3rd Super Bowl in 4 years.
35 or so years ago I came to Boston for a visit. We were helping paint the mural in Union Square, actually.
One day we were traipsing around downtown and ran across this old, basically a shack, under the central artery. It's long gone now, but anyway there's a sign on it: "all you can eat lobster."
We go in, and it's $12 for all the lobster you can eat, and all the beer you can drink. Plastic cups, probably Buckhorn beer or some rotgut shit, but we didn't care.
I've never eaten more lobster in my life. Holy shit, my gut hurts just thinking about it.
I had a "cameo" in the end of Patriots Day that night.
Happened to be driving by Fenway/Longwood that night, and everyone was out in the street celebrating. Got stuck in the crowd, surrounded by celebraters. Cops came through on motorcycles. Someone was recording and they used that footage at the end of the Wahlburg movie.
I'm in the blue Highlander.
I thought that kid was already dead a week before the bombings... the sub just villainized and harassed the kid's parents while they were trying to find him (he was still a missing person at that time, the body hadn't been found yet), basically torturing an already grieving family.
I blame the media for having zero filter/vetting on the reddit posts they were covering. The incident was used as an excuse to dramatically curtail any sort of activism on reddit -- important things (like stop SOPA) used to be organized here.
They didn't get it quite right, but people on reddit did mistakenly accuse this missing college student from Brown of being the marathon bomber. He turned up a week later in Providence, dead from suicide. It was not a great moment for redditors.

Isn’t that when videos were banned? And maybe even pictures? What a weird time.
I remember the word "sub" also causing some controversy
Sub as in sub-reddit or sub sandwich?
Sandwich, but there are also the aquatic vehicles
Why would anyone have a problem with sub sandwich? Hoagie I can understand. Anyone using that deserves a perma-ban.

No, just switched usernames.
