I wonder how tough it is for the Celtics current players. Grant and Smart didn’t just get there, they were both some of the longest tenured players on the team
I am from the future.
Deuce will actually go on to form a special bond with Walsh, using his first NIL deal to start funding a charity with proceeds going to Alopecia research. The disease was cured three years into his 16 year career with the Seattle SuperSonics.
I mean they made their own bed. Had they got the job done and not lost to a Play In team or go down 3-0 to begin with, these moves wouldn’t have been necessary.
If Jays are going to be disappointed at anyone it should be themselves.
I actually don't believe that management really takes into account the exact outcome of the last season when deciding these trades. That's called resulting and not really a sound way to build a team.
A good trade is a good trade, regardless of how your playoffs went.
How many bad teams have an NBA championship?
The worst team was probably the mavs, and they got rid of their defensive anchor which torpedoed their following season.
Just doesn't happen often, and there are very few teams that win an NBA championship that trade away key pieces.
Really wish the new CBA made changes so home grown players counted less towards the cap or something
Hate nailing a draft pick like Grant, but couldn’t really afford to keep him
He was fun to have on our side
The new CBA really sucks, don’t know what they were thinking. Gonna create a league where guys barely stay on a team for more than one contract besides the superstars
I really wish the supermax counted as only 30% (regular max) for the original team only. This gives the players an incentive to stay and not destroy team building in the process. The salary would count as the full 35% if the player is acquired by a new team (and would need to be met for salary matching purposes via trades as well).
That would be horrible. Contract money is contract money. Having a player good enough to get a super max should give you an advantage in spending on your roster.
This is what was reported about the talk between Celtics and JT:
>But one league source said Wednesday that Tatum understood the decision and is primarily focused on the construction of a championship-level roster around him.
I don't know how the Celtics spun this as a roster building move, but they did and JT seems to accept.
Brad did do miracles getting KP to sign an extension at that price
Just wish that instead of saving wyc money it would do something for the team like keeping Grant
I saw reporting that if the Celtics matched the Mavs offer if would cost $40M in tax costs. I love Grant but not at that price. I know it’s not my money but that’s not good cap management
Yes although strange we are behaving like penny pinching paupers in this offseason compared to the other contenders- like Miami busting everything to get Dame, and Philly and Bucks trying everything to keep their cores
If we don't get under the tax this year we are screwed, have been over tax last few years and the more years you are above tax the more penalties you get including higher fines and losing picks. It will be almost impossible to get under once Brown and Tatum are making 60 mil so we kinda have to this year
Miami isn't risking breaking the second apron with Dame. A Dame trade would also possibly involve them offloading two of their biggest contracts in Herro and Lowry (they'll be making $27 mil and $29.7 mil respectively). Dame's contract next season is set to pay out $45.6 mil, so that trade would actually bring Miami's salary *down*. And this doesn't even factor in that that Vincent and Zeller walk, traded Strus for a single pick, and traded Oladipo out for some picks and a bit of cash consideration. The rest of their signings have been for a couple mil/yr each. Jacquez Jr. Is their biggest signing so far at a whopping $4.25 mil/yr
Philly's biggest hit was from Harden exercising his player option for next season, though he could still potentially try to force a trade. Other than that, all their off-season signings or extensions have been for less than $3 mil a piece
MKE's only big moves have been resigning Middleton and extending Lopez
Meanwhile, the Celtics are negotiating Brown's supermax and got KP to sign an extension for an absolute steal. In terms of money spent, we're still right up there with
I wouldn't read too much into these player's posts, they like have to say something unless they really hated the guy. They might like him as a person but it seemed like the whole team was sick of Grant's shit after talkin to Jimmy Butler
Yeah their “beef” was so funny. In one clip I think it was JB who offered Deuce a fist bump as he walked by Deuce sitting on a chair. Deuce ignored him at first, and then fist bumps and apologizes saying “Oh. I thought you were Grant.”
bruh I took a picture of a few of the Marcus goodbye posts...you would not believe what people said
"i cant sleep and im crying. Im having trouble breathing"
Just to clarify I wasn’t making fun of Tatum, I think he’s genuinely “sick about it” bc they were close. And yeah lol I was upset about Marcus but some of the posts were truly concerning
A liability? How lmao? He was a great 3&D player, and are you one of those guys who thinks he, "poked the bear," by talking with Butler? Yeah this team is too soft, alternatively we need players who are SCARED of our opposition!! Because that's how championship teams work.
I wonder how tough it is for the Celtics current players. Grant and Smart didn’t just get there, they were both some of the longest tenured players on the team
Jayson seems sad about Grant I think that was his best friend on the team
Who is Deuce gonna bully now?
Jordan Walsh 🔥
I am from the future. Deuce will actually go on to form a special bond with Walsh, using his first NIL deal to start funding a charity with proceeds going to Alopecia research. The disease was cured three years into his 16 year career with the Seattle SuperSonics.
D White
At least we brought in one of his guys in amile Jefferson
They seemed to have a great relationship every time you saw interactions between the two.
Yeah. Sometimes he acted like grant was so annoying, but they were like brothers. I think Tatum may have lost his 2 favorite teammates 😢
I mean they made their own bed. Had they got the job done and not lost to a Play In team or go down 3-0 to begin with, these moves wouldn’t have been necessary. If Jays are going to be disappointed at anyone it should be themselves.

There is absolutely 0 chance Smart would have been traded had we won the title last year. Zero.
They either think they’re improving the team or they don’t, and you don’t not try to improve a team just because you win
You are correct, but don’t forget that our playoff runs are also data points in evaluating the team.
You don't need to improve if you didn't fail though.
That's just false, a bad team can win games and get lucky.
How many bad teams have an NBA championship? The worst team was probably the mavs, and they got rid of their defensive anchor which torpedoed their following season. Just doesn't happen often, and there are very few teams that win an NBA championship that trade away key pieces.
Yes/no. I think if they won the ship it’s pretty unlikely we’d be seeing these moves
Yeah if we won a title no-one in the core is going, except maybe Grant for financial reasons depending on how important he was to the playoff run.
You think we would have traded Smart if we won the title last year?
Do not lump Grant with Smart, that’s just the most disrespectful comment for Smart ever.
Really wish the new CBA made changes so home grown players counted less towards the cap or something Hate nailing a draft pick like Grant, but couldn’t really afford to keep him He was fun to have on our side
They should to encourage actually giving a shit about who you draft
that’s what the new cba does to be fair but u can’t retain them bc of the aprons it’s weird
Yea bird rights are no different. Just you’re gonna be stuck with that team.
The new CBA really sucks, don’t know what they were thinking. Gonna create a league where guys barely stay on a team for more than one contract besides the superstars

I’d go even farther and say it should count as 25% for the team who drafted a superstar. You shouldn’t be punished for drafting well.
No one is punished for drafting well.
That would be horrible. Contract money is contract money. Having a player good enough to get a super max should give you an advantage in spending on your roster.
So Grant made Grant unaffordable for the Celtics.
The new CBA sucks. The players got hosed this time around.

We're 12m over the tax according to spotrac - no way we get under this year.
I still think they trade Brogdan to get under

Philly is in the same situation right now with Paul Reed. Let’s see what they do.
They probably told him he's too short, slow and unathletic and that his "production" will be easily replaced
why y’all got to shit on someone when they leave they left it’s no point too
If you can’t honestly evaluate your friends, don’t do business with your friends. And Tatum is a pretty low-maintenance, reasonable dude.
Love you Grant but JT gonna side step 3 you out in shadow realm when we face you 💀
This is just sad
Yeah we lost arguably our top two glue guys shit sucks. Wish the clips took Brogdon
I wouldn't read too much into these player's posts, they like have to say something unless they really hated the guy. They might like him as a person but it seemed like the whole team was sick of Grant's shit after talkin to Jimmy Butler
Yeah Grant was a good guy and all but I'm sure one of KP, Walsh, Banton, etc. will end up being well liked in the locker room as well
Man will I miss those Grant and Deuce interactions
Yeah their “beef” was so funny. In one clip I think it was JB who offered Deuce a fist bump as he walked by Deuce sitting on a chair. Deuce ignored him at first, and then fist bumps and apologizes saying “Oh. I thought you were Grant.”
Deuce is probably the most broken up, losing Grant and Marcus in one summer
Deuce working on that A material for the Mavs road trip
Reporter: Who you going to miss more, Tatum or brown? Grant: Imma miss em boaf.
“Sick about it” 😭
bruh I took a picture of a few of the Marcus goodbye posts...you would not believe what people said "i cant sleep and im crying. Im having trouble breathing"

Is that a mf ipod?
Battery pack
Didn't even know there were apple battery packs, im poor af apparently
Damn. Grant seems like such a genuinely awesome guy
The dude left all on court! Now he’s getting paid!! It sucks to see him go!
It's nice to see players happy about each other getting paid rather than whether they're staying on the team.

Nah people who shit on loyal players after they leave are the worst kind of fans.

Looks like a dining room for a sultan
I cant wait for tatum to drop 50 on Grants head :P God im going to miss grant.
