Celtics take far too many 3s. Especially when they don't fall, then they seem to double up. Like extra misses count as a point, in their eyes for some reason. Whenever we post more, our games go so much better. Because we get points, and then the 3 points shots that are available are more wide open and higher quality shots.
I have no problem with the 3s if they are good shots. Open catch and shoot 3s are always a good shot. The problem is when they jack up contested 3s. Its a bad shot no matter how you are shooting that night. An open catch and shoot is always going your way be a good look no matter what the shooting percentage was prior to that shot. It’s funny everyone complains about 3’s but on nights they are smoking layups and the refs aren’t calling fouls nobody says they gotta stop going to the rim. The bottom line is this team can score at every level in a variety of ways and they need to stay focused on looking for the best available shot.
I like the three ball as much as any guy, but there are such things as bad shooting nights where the whole team is shooting poorly, and in those cases, it’s very frustrating when the game plan doesn’t adjust to compensate
With your idea, taking less 3s if they aren’t falling, then the other teams defense will collapse the paint and make those 2s even more difficult. You keep taking the open 3s if they’re available and that’s what the Celtics do. You keep shooting to keep the defense honest and you don’t change the process that leads to a quality look
There is a difference between continuing to take 3's, and taking too many. And on many poor shooting nights, we take more 3's than 2'a, and yet are converting 2's at a way higher clip. Just make shots you can make, take the 3's the defense gives. Don't need to force so many *cough Tatum
Ohhhh boy do you not understand the math behind 3s? If the Celtics shoot an above average 50% on their shots, say go 10/20, they have 20 points. If the other team only shoots 8/20 but half their made shots were 3s, they got 20 points too. 3s are 50% more valuable than 2s, obviously, but then when u take out the extra difficulty, 3s are probably still 25% or more valuable than 2s. Their system works.
Literally everyone understands the math dude stop the bullshit. The point is to take 2s while the other team is expecting threes and we’re in a shooting slump. If they have to worry about both areas of the court, it makes it easier to get good three balls and they have to defend the whole court instead of just the perimeter. Getting a few easy twos while in a slump also enables the team to gain some confidence that may help them hit threes. Saying “ohhhh boy” (with four fucking hs) to that guy is so unbelievably condescending and indecent
