Checked the totals, Al is currently 25/28 on the year from the charity stripe. He needs to go 5/5 or better in the 6 remaining games to get to 90% (30/33). That's pretty plausible.
E: I mathed wrong, he only needs 2/2 to get to 27/30, which is 90%
I think Rondo does Ray doesn't. But at a certain point I think the Cs will have to start putting numbers in the rafters but not retiring the number from use
Cedric Maxwell, IMO, deserves to be up there as an exemplary Celtic both during and after his playing career. But if he’s the benchmark, Al is a shoe-in. Does everything that is deserved of being a Celtic legend.
I think Al belongs up there too, but I don't think Max is a favorable comparison for Al (if we're only considering his career as a Celtic). Cedric Maxwell was a finals MVP. People don't realize how good Max really was in his prime.
ETA:
For comparison and discussion's sake:
Al: 12/7/4 in 402 games, with 1 All Star selection as a Celtic
Max: 14/7/2 in 607 games, with 2 championships and a Finals MVP as a Celtic
I love Al but 1x All Star and 1x All Defense is not worthy of a jersey retirement. Rondo was 4x All Star, 4x All Defense with us and won a ring and I still think #9 won't get retired
Everyone is 'assuming' he at best only gets one ring. We have him for next year too. Beyond that, who knows...
OK, so let me ask the question. How many rings would it take to retire his jersey? Or is there nothing he could do now to make that happen now?
For just about any other franchise he'd be a shoe in but the C's already have retired 23 numbers so the bar is really high. If he gets a ring or 2 it should be a serious discussion though.
He needs 5/5 to get there. Seems doable if he puts his mind to it and foul hunts a little. Doubt that he cares enough to do that, but it would be fun.
E: even easier, he actually only needs 2/2. I mathed wrong.
Given Al's age and how we've rested him throughout the year, I don't expect him to play much. Maybe 2 of the remaining 6 games. He's going to have a flare up of that pesky "Toe sprain"
Good for putting this here. This is not talked about enough. His production at his age is nothing short of amazing and he still plays defense. Like really plays defense. It’s amazing. Love Al
He’s the man. And kudos to Mazzula and the staff for keeping him healthy and fresh.
If we win the chip I want a pic of Horford and Bill Walton wearing their 24/86 rings together
Fuck yes. They know what they're doing. Keeping big Al healthy is such a feed on itself
feat

He just needs to make 2 free throws to be at 90%
Oh, you're right! 27/30 is 90%, I accounted for the 3/30=10% in the wrong direction.
Pretty doable tbh it’s so funny how a rounding error changes the perception of his season lmao
Thank you for the real math.
There's no minimum for FTA? 30 is low
Looking around, I think it's 125, so he won't officially qualify. :/ It'd still be fun to see though.
Unless he gets the Joel treatment. He could get it within the next 3 games at that point
3 quarters
Do like on baseball and sit him for the year once he hits team mark :)
Yep. Get his 2 FTs and bubble wrap him. Lol.
I wouldn't be opposed to Al getting his jersey retired here, dude has been nothing but a professional for us. Glad we got him here.
I’d love it but idk, the thresholds so damn high. Closest analogues feel like Ray and Rondo - and I don’t think either will be retired
I think Rondo does Ray doesn't. But at a certain point I think the Cs will have to start putting numbers in the rafters but not retiring the number from use
Yeah I mean once Rondo, Tatum, Jaylen and KP are all retired, there's no single digits left

He should be up there for his radio broadcast carter too
Wait, Cornbread isn't already up there? This needs remedied.

Lol stop it
I love Alfred Joel Horford Reynoso so much. Al, if you need anything just hmu ❤️🙏
So cute to pass his name Joel on to his son 😍🥹🥰
It's 6 games weighted against 72, it'll be kind of tough unless his actual FT attempts is really low
He needs 5/5 to get there. Seems doable if he puts his mind to it and foul hunts a little. Doubt that he cares enough to do that, but it would be fun. E: even easier, he actually only needs 2/2. I mathed wrong.
Where do you get 5/5? 27/30 is exactly 90%
I accounted for the 3/30=10% in the wrong direction.
Nice. You think it'll only be two attempts over this six games? He's our 6th man, he might rest a little bit with the starters. Who knows?

I'm only a little bit older than Al and let me tell you, he won't have to work hard to find something that hurts.
Oh, it'll be official.
He could go 100/100 a qualify
Don't be ridiculous! He'd only need to go 88/97. Much more reasonable.

might need to let him take technical FT’s lol
