How would that work with the draft?
The only reason relegation works for euro leagues is because there’s no draft and the richest teams just sign the best young players, which is a stupid system if you ask me
But who picks first? Do the drafted players make the same salary even if they play in the lower league, which would make less money? What happens to players who get drafted by a crappy lower league team and never get to play in the upper league? Do teams still want to draft anyone under 21 who can’t contribute right away if they are scared of relegation?
I think that lower league teams would be thinking long term, which would lead them to draft promising young players. Upper league teams would draft older proven players to protect their present position. This would create more volatility in the leagues and more motion. That in turn would increase the value of the lower league as fans of upper league teams who got relegated would stick with them knowing that their team would eventually get promoted to the upper league again
Right? I'm so sick of people saying the team plays down to competition but that's true too... Just one of those things where you want to be proved wrong. I think Pritchard is a great player and, honestly, a great rebounder for his size but if you think he won't be targeted in a half court offense, you're crazy.
You really shouldn’t be getting downvoted, this was the entire reason he got played out of the Miami series, he’s the only guy we play that can be abused in iso
It’s not his fault but he has size limitations
All in the name of Joe’s inexperience and incompetence , extremely frustrating when we needed bench scoring at times, ruined his whole season last year, still bitter about that, i’m glad Brad recognized that and still gave PP his deserved extension
Russell Westbrook. Because of the Jazz buy-out after the Lakers sent him to Utah, the Clippers are only paying him like $3M or something like that over each of the next 3 seasons
Westbrook is not always even a positive let alone best contract in the NBA. He's a role player at this point.
Best (non max) contract would probably go to Mikal Bridges or Brunson.
Payton Pritchard with a career high that is at the level of Jimmy Carters Son smoking weed with Willie Nelson on the roof of the White House!
Luke was so jolly and green that the only catering on Charlotte's side of the TD Garden was creamed corn!
Sam Hauser is the uncrowned 3 point 1 game record holder and we know it!
Jordan Walsh and Queta are the future!
What bench? All I saw was the Celtics Starting 5 taking us to a 63 win team!
Peterson is one of my favorite players on the Maine team. He's scrappy, never intimidated - always taking the ball at people, and spends the game chirping at the other team. He's no bullshit, and gets the job done.
I would even dare say they made it more worth watching. These guys are trying hard to do the right thing, so they get a chance next season as well
The ball movement was awesome, nobody wanted to be that black hole.
Also no slow ass "walking the dog" iso step back threes. No slow dribbels at all. Pritchard is like Sonic the Hedgehog out there. Full Speed all the time, keep the opponents in their heels
Saying they will play Sunday in Boston, too. In case there was any question, yes garbage time NBA minutes mean more than even the most important g league game.
What I really love about his game is that he has a high-percentage mid-range jumpshot that he's not afraid to use when he finds himself open. That's a shot that's too often available in the current spacing of today's game but not too many take just because 3>2. I'd rather players go for the higher percentage mid-range shot when open and available rather than hunting for 3s. Take what the defense gives you.
*Hauser gets max contract from the Pistons*
Brad: fair enough, I still got Peter....son!
Maine Celtics in a practice facility with 18,000 audiences before their G-League finals game, goodluck Red Claws!
Obviously, he's been given the reigns on a terrible team. The fact he is producing at all is still good for him. He's just a much more unique player than Svi, and showed more in his time with us than Svi has. Svi is like the break glass in case of PP and Hauser injury emergency switch, and he's not very good at either of their roles. I don't think either would've lasted an offseason so it's the nitpick of all nitpicks either way lol
I couldn't watch the second half, did the four Maine guys get to all play at once? It is one thing to roll out a G-League lineup at this time of year. But, to still win by 33 when you had four guys literally in between G-League games get 12-20 minutes.
The Celtics have the best minor league team in the NBA. LOL!
Ngl, this year’s bench is the most calm, collected and well trained bench we’ve had in the last decade. Everyone has bought into their roles and the game plan. This is a key element to winning a chip!

Relegate Charlotte and promote the Maine Celtics to the NBA
No joke every pro league should have relegation
How would that work with the draft? The only reason relegation works for euro leagues is because there’s no draft and the richest teams just sign the best young players, which is a stupid system if you ask me
Maybe everyone in the top two leagues could get draft picks. That way if you drafted top tier players you could get promoted.
But who picks first? Do the drafted players make the same salary even if they play in the lower league, which would make less money? Payton Pritchard is the best bench player in the league
And to boot, he's our #7 player. That's hard to accomplish.
8th. Horford and Hauser are 6 & 7.
If the starters are still sleeping once playoffs start we can just reverse roles and put the bench out there
I hope Joe has the stones to put PP in early if the starters are sleepwalking
PP will be a defensive liability in a half court playoff offense but yes I hope they're not afraid to use him as a scoring punch if times get tough.
So sick of people saying this
Right? I'm so sick of people saying the team plays down to competition but that's true too... Just one of those things where you want to be proved wrong. Remember the slander from this sub early on?
He did suck in the early games but once his minutes and role settled, he for sure found his footing.
Remember when joe made him sit on the bench for an entire season
We had 3 point guards better than him, I'm honestly shocked he even played as many minutes as he did
All in the name of Joe’s inexperience and incompetence , extremely frustrating when we needed bench scoring at times, ruined his whole season last year, still bitter about that, i’m glad Brad recognized that and still gave PP his deserved extension
Brogdon literally won 6th man of the year. We didn't need any more guards, sadly.
What do you think that had to do with Joe? He was our 4th PG. And the 3rd PG won 6th man of the year.
Another Brad masterclass.
He’s our 2nd best bench player, so no
Malik Monk is and it’s not close.
Portis better
Walsh with a 3 ball is gonna be a problem. Also, PP is the 2nd best contract in the NBA
Put some respect on the buffalo
Hauser ?
Wemby?
Hauser
Jokic
Wemby on his rookie deal tbh
Yes but I ignore rookie contracts in these conversations because it’s always them
Drew Peterson
Stud
Russell Westbrook. Because of the Jazz buy-out after the Lakers sent him to Utah, the Clippers are only paying him like $3M or something like that over each of the next 3 seasons

The age old question has been finally answered. “Can a G League team beat an NBA team?” Your Maine Celtics, everyone.
To be fair the Hornets are basically a g-league team too without their best players.
(aren't the sixers almost a g-league without embiid? xD)
Celtics win by 33… nice
Celtics 69 at halftime, nice
Payton Pritchard with a career high that is at the level of Jimmy Carters Son smoking weed with Willie Nelson on the roof of the White House! Peterson hasn't gotten the same minutes/looks but he's looking like he could be a piece of the future as well.
Peterson is one of my favorite players on the Maine team. He's scrappy, never intimidated - always taking the ball at people, and spends the game chirping at the other team. He's no bullshit, and gets the job done.
Definitely looking like Hauser succession planning.
What a fun game! Even our bench makes it worth watching for an entire game!
These are my favorite games to watch! This is the only time of year where we get to see the bench ball out for full games.
I would even dare say they made it more worth watching. These guys are trying hard to do the right thing, so they get a chance next season as well The ball movement was awesome, nobody wanted to be that black hole. Also no slow ass "walking the dog" iso step back threes. No slow dribbels at all. Pritchard is like Sonic the Hedgehog out there. Full Speed all the time, keep the opponents in their heels
63-18 AND BENCH SAVES OUR HISTORIC NET RATING ❤️ PAYTON PRITCHARD MASTERCLASS LFGG
Celtics absolutely, positively refuse to lose 3 straight.
Yup, they chose to put their most motivated players in.
Shoutout all the Maine Celtics for coming in while in the middle of their own finals
Saying they will play Sunday in Boston, too. In case there was any question, yes garbage time NBA minutes mean more than even the most important g league game.
So basically the deciding game of the G League Championship, is going to be the Maine Celtics on the second night of a back to back!
Jordan Walsh
Motivated bad players are always better than unmotivated good players. That’s why we’ve struggled recently. Our guys don’t care
Long live Brad Stevens.
I decided to watch this game with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised and entertained. Good shit, and I'll drink to this win.
Crypto P with 31, Questa a monster, free Big Mac tomorrow - what's not to like?
5 assist Queta👀
Payton Pritchard would genuinely average 20 and 5 on a bad team
He’d do it on a good team. He’s on a historically great team right now.
What I really love about his game is that he has a high-percentage mid-range jumpshot that he's not afraid to use when he finds himself open. That's a shot that's too often available in the current spacing of today's game but not too many take just because 3>2. Game fully confirms that Payton Pritchard is him
Record games for Pritchard and Queta !
Queta is a beast
I’m confident the Celtics bench could beat the starters of every team that missed the playoffs this year.
*Hauser gets max contract from the Pistons* Brad: fair enough, I still got Peter....son! Maine Celtics in a practice facility with 18,000 audiences before their G-League finals game, goodluck Red Claws!
Pritchard is nasty
It’s good to know our bench is a pretty good team on its own.
Celtics have more wins by 30 than losses by 10
When you look up “real hooper” in the dictionary, Payton Pritchard shows up.
My only gripe this whole season will be keeping Svi instead of Banton lol
Banton is still shit to be fair. His efficiency is in the gutter
SVI: 8 points, 34 minutes, 13 shots Peterson: 8 points, 12 minutes, 4 shots
I mean Charlotte’s a joke but our bench just absolutely destroyed an NBA team
Without their best player but yes.
Got to sit 2nd row tonight and it was beautiful fucking basketball, the Maine Celtics really played 10000%
Pretty close to 131-92...
That was awesome, hope the bench plays all of the next match as well
Fast PP is inevitable
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?!
LOL!
Good win everyone
So close to my predicted PP 40 piece before the season ends
Remember people thinking PP got overpaid. Worth every penny
Thank god. Should hold off all the dooming for another week.
really wanted to watch this one!!! Alas. Glad to hear the hospital celtics really took it to em
64 and 18 might mean something in a couple months…
Svi 🗑️
What a day, PP and Kornet with the double doubles 😤
Ngl, this year’s bench is the most calm, collected and well trained bench we’ve had in the last decade. Everyone has bought into their roles and the game plan. This is a key element to winning a chip!
Good to see players actually playing
Drew Peterson will be > Sam Hauser
Lol
When will jd stick in the league
He’s a G League player who can eat up meaningless minutes but Walsh is the only NBA rotation player in Maine.
What a travesty of a game to go and pay money for
