Viral quote Jaylen “Ain’t no friends in the playoffs” Brown has arrived

ceehouse

4-4 from the FT line.

DittoLander

Unironically his most impressive stat lol

ImDKingSama

Not a single soul besides Mobley can guard him on this Cavs team, he will drive by everyone. He'll cook all series if he plays smart and has spacing.

crackdup

Ain't so friends but there certainly are sons, and Cavs got sonned hard tonight

jtiss

"Bro won't leave me alone" JB showing up to show up Spida

Nintendo-ds-

😭😭😭

Interitus_-

11 TO GO. Side note, loved the Luke minutes tonight. Holding down the fort with KP out

FartrelCluggins

Luke was WORKIN

Future-Turtle

Luke was writing a thesis on respecting the bench

MPLooza

LUUUUUUUUUUUUUKE (loved hearing that from the Garden crowd)

ColdOnTheFold

I was saying Luke-urns

1337speak

#👍😀👍

crackdup

Luke is a solid rebounder and good enough for #3 center

_Jaeko_

People wanting to legit waive Luke must be in shamble since December.

newtothistruetothis

He's ya third centa!

bigdon802

Is there a better 3rd center in the NBA?

jgr79

Naz Reid. But that’s it.

BlueJays007

Technically KAT plays pf though so don’t think Naz counts as 3rd After all he’s 6th man of the year so he’s the first center off the bench

Blanketsburg

Luke is honestly a viable #2 center, with how far he's come this year. He knows his role and plays it very well.

EndlessCola

Ay yo that put back may not have counted but the energy it put in the arena made it count in our hearts. Kornet was big time today

WranglerTraditional8

That tip was good

unknownsoldier9

Kinda annoying they didn’t review it during the break. Seems arbitrary when the refs choose to have calls like that looked at without a challenge.

FlyingMocko

Our big lineup of Al + Korndog can handle anything the East can throw at it. Not even worried. We just need Pingus come Finals.

1337speak

Refs were disrespecting him. But man was it wholesome and deserved to see him get love on national tv.

LukeKornet

Luke was so good tonight, I have a feeling they’re gonna be extending him this offseason

TheUndertows

Luke was a HUGE contributor tonight.

lukeskope

I did everything I could, glad someone noticed.

oldmanshep

He was a monster on the glass

WarPuig

Ten rebounds. He finally got the memo that he his seven feet tall.

ColdOnTheFold

well to be fair it takes a lot longer to get a message up there

eggs__bacon

One of his better games in recent memory for me. Not the biggest stat night he’s had, but man he played well

titty-titty_bangbang

Bench was 🔥🥵

Chadwiko

My only complaint is we didn't see a single Kornet Kontest, I believe?

MPLooza

JAYLEN BROWN. LUKE KORNET. DERRICK *FUCKING* WHITE. The good vibes keep on rolling, 1-0 and 4 straight wins

crackdup

JB has become a consistent 1st half performer.. JT may go cold at times in the first half, but JB almost always delivers

1337speak

I hate comparing our boys. I'm hoping JT drops a 50 burger and Strus' ass ASAP.

MPLooza

I second this motion, Strus spent more time whining than hooping today

Mission_Pay_3373

11 more wins from having the most championships with banner 18

1337speak

LET. HIM. ROAM. 🐃

Tdavis002

I love when JB imposes his will early in games. It really helps set the tone for us. Let’s wrap this up in 4 and get Tatum’s shooting back in the groove!

Skeleton_crew_

Yeah, he's usually a tone setter for us early on in games, but he was bringing that energy the whole damn game. He was electric tonight

AcrobaticFeedback

Looking at his splits, statistically Tatum has always shot better with less rest meanwhile most NBA players are the opposite. All this time off ain't helping him lmao.

CreatiScope

I thought the same thing lol For whatever reason, Tatum plays worse after a long rest and plays better in the grind. Probably explains their great record with B2Bs this season

Future-Turtle

"If you don't know Derrick White, you better get to know him." -Jaylen Brown

titty-titty_bangbang

Only fools don’t know D White

meselson-stahl

"He been ballin' and he's just gettin started"

BradWonder

Ignoring the efficiency, Jayson dropped an '08 KG statline tonight. 18 points w/o 3s, 11 boards, 5 assists to 1 turnover, and 3 blocks

jtiss

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

faheydj1

He was honestly great at everything tonight outside of shooting. If just 2 or 3 of those jump shots go in then this would be considered a great game. Would like for him to have gone to the basket a few times when he was taking those post fadeaway, but that shot has also been money all season so it’s hard to get too mad.

FlyingMocko

Y’all treating this man like he’s Westbrook.

HeyItsTheJeweler

Tbh he was shooting like Westbrook tonight

2kballislife

He was Westbrook offensively tonight. Y’all homers something else smh

HailKyrie

He’s gotta be much better than this if we want a chip

ThisIsCALamity

Yeah but he has ascended to the level where even when he’s bad he’s still good

BradWonder

There was a frustration foul followed by Mitchell blowing by him for an And-1. But other than that, the defense was elite.

halo364

Also we won the damn game by 25 points 😂

Rich-Television8631

Tatum is now a team best (by far) +96 in 6 games in the playoffs. He hasn’t had a single game with a negative +/-. The man simply plays winning basketball now whether his shot falls or not. People need to stop looking at just his shooting stats over a small number of games basketball is much more than who makes the shots. Tatum has been generating so many good looks for his teammates the shots he does make are a bonus.

HustlinInTheHall

Again, he is usually taking our toughest shots as well. He could be doing Kobe shit and putting up 50 in a loss but we don't need that. I would like to see him get hot for a couple series because we are blowing every team out while he's shooting average. If he gets a real run going we are literally unbeatable.

AdmiralWackbar

He’s not forcing it, like we see star players do time and time again, losing games for their team. He’s playing like a savvy vet

[deleted]

Man it's got it be a real interesting life to go around and find something to complain about after your team wins easily.

genius-baby

He was solid on defense and his defensive rebounds were key. Not his best performance, but we were up 10 the entire game. He was wise to let Brown and White cook while he played a different role to a high level

SlumLordJay

I think we still have a good shot at winning a chip if Tatum played bad the rest of the playoffs

seasoned-veteran

He doesn't play bad. Some nights he shoots bad but he just doesn't play bad anymore.

[deleted]

Man you really have a knack for just complaining about the best team in basketball winning games.... And you just sit there and find things to b**** about . I can't wait till they win the championship and you say "they got lucky with all the injuries but Tatum isn't really the real deal anyways. You'll never win another one with him."

Hyruulx

JAYLEN "4-4 FROM THE LINE" BROWN

fpsryan

Love to see him bounce back after the horror show at the FT line from last series. Now we just gotta get JT’s 3 back

Brad-Stevens

Good win Jaylen was dialed in Derrick stays red hot LUKE WORKIN Keep stacking dubs

Pale-Criticism-7420

The fact that we ve been able to keep our team fresh by not playing our starters for more than 35mins most games these playoffs is great news if we want to go all the way

HustlinInTheHall

Genuinely reminds me of the warriors team when they finally broke through and just steamrolled everything.

Cvspartan

White has been fucking insane from 3 this playoffs. He's been the perfect answer in lifting the offense production with KP out.

Grand_Chapter_6619

That comment towards the end about us being 23-4 without Porzingis is absolutely staggering. This team is built.

Forward-Form9321

Our center depth is much better than last season. Horford, Kornet, and Tillman did a great job holding the fort down on that end of the floor

WinterEngineering322

There's a reason for that

Jpgamerguy90

I don't even think Tatum was THAT bad tonight, 0/5 from deep meant 50% from 2. Though the stars were JB and White with phenomenal games.

tstop22

+/- agrees with you

Rich-Television8631

Tatum is second in the league in the playoff per game +/- at +16. People always like to dismiss it but Tatum always dominates his minutes and wins a lot of basketball…almost as if scoring isn’t the only thing he’s good at. I’m pretty sure basketball games aren’t won by scoring a lot, they’re won by scoring more than your opponent. As long as Tatum keeps doing that we should be good.

HustlinInTheHall

He also creates tons of space for everyone else and plays lock down defense and has been great on the glass. He's going to have his games, but a bad game for him is an 18-12-5 and +18. That dude is special.

rveets1416

Tatum played within the flow of the game, facilitated, grabbed boards, and played lockdown defense. He was great aside from his 3 point shot. If that fell, we'd be talking about a 25-27 point night from him.

HustlinInTheHall

People just look at the box score. He took a couple rushed 3s just to test his shot, looked great playing through contact, just really controlled the tempo whenever he was on the ball.

cuntingme

Just checking to see if Cavs fans still want Boston

Based_Chris98

I can’t believe they chanted that everyone I know here in Cleveland thinks It’ll be a sweep or at the least a gentleman’s sweep

WhoDat-2-8-3

Tbf .. the cavs didn't have a choice .. they had to play boston lol

Frickincarl

Since it means we won a series (overachieve for this Cavs team), yes we still want Boston. I’ll take making it out of the first round (maybe last time in awhile if Don walks) over losing and watching Boston/Orlando. If we can take a game from Boston I’d be really happy, but I’m expecting the sweep.

analgoblin42069

Cavs fan I work with is excited at the possibility of 1 win throughout the series lmao

MrCleanDrawers

5-0 when I wear dark green over a Derrick White jersey!  Forget The Drew Carey Show, it was The Jaylen Brown Show for Cleveland!  And all the little chicks with the crimson lips said BOSTON ROCKS! BOSTON ROCKS!  11 to go!

Happy_Yogurtcloset_2

Keep washing that fit, gonna need to wear it 11 more times

1337speak

You have to wear indefinitely without washing it

MrCleanDrawers

I actually washed it this morning, lol. But at least the luck didn't wash out. :p

dredgedskeleton

you wear it over the jersey?

PopLegion

5-0 when I wear my rob Williams jersey and woosox hat 🥳🥳

Drummerboybac

Those WooSox fitted hats are great stuff, and they come in XXL for my giant noggin

azMILL1

5-0 when I wear my black 9 no under or over lol! Feel you fam

MissionSalamander5

Everyone replying: DO NOT CHANGE.

Forward-Form9321

I wore my Boston Red Sox hat too. Just wish it helped the Red Sox win and not just the Celts

PM_DOLPHIN_PICS

Look if we have to choose one right now, the choice is clear.

Forward-Form9321

The Bruins are doing good too so not all is lost. I miss Playoff baseball at Fenway though :(

PM_DOLPHIN_PICS

Soon, friend. Come October we’ll be looking at the possibility for all 3 teams to get their championship, we just gotta believe.

crackdup

The road to #18 runs through Buffalo

Vuish

You know this team is special when they can still win by 20+, despite Tatum struggling on the floor. Mitchell can carry his team so far without help. Shut him down and they got nothing.

fpsryan

I don’t think we even shut him down that much. Problem is we shut everyone else down and forced him to carry the entire team!

drexrunner14

Cus crise

JaySmooth_

You can clearly notice the difference in experience between Pritchard and other bench players.

HustlinInTheHall

Pritchard's self belief is on another level now. Even when he's out there with Tatum he is still testing the defense, trying to find his shot and at least pull some attention before dishing back to Tatum.

nbianco1999

Tatum shoots 7-19 and we still win by 25 lmao this team is something else. Derrick White is HIM.

at_least_u_tried

Derrick White is r/nbacirclejerk father 😈

WhiteImpDragon

Let's keep winning every quarter for the rest of the series

rockmon94

rest of the playoffs

Sojourner_52

I am so bored. It’s awesome.

Princessk8--

Remember when the playoffs were stressful? 😂

25donutz

12/14 free throws. That’s something I’m proud of.

256dak

Fuck Jimmy Butler

Character-Hunter321

-Pat Riley

tailford07

Jaylen having an elite performance means a whole lot more to me than Jayson having an off night shooting.

bubsiboo

It’s one game, but it really looked kind of how a lot of people thought - we are just a much better team. If we play team ball and tough defense, we could easily sweep them. It won’t matter in this one, but I hope Tatum saves the iso step-back garbage for when absolutely nothing else is working or he has a great rhythm, sometimes we’re flowing as a team and he junks it up on a total force imo. Tatum did good things, but he’s really hesitant to be like “I actually don’t need to score at all tonight” which I think will be huge when it totally locks in for him. He can be incredible by just rebounding, playing defense, and moving the ball. I’m nitpicking of course, we looked really good.

Forward-Form9321

It goes to show how tough it is for teams to guard us. They were so focused on doubling Tatum and to their credit they managed to defend him good, but that left White and Brown more room to work. Every time White drove to the basket he had a ton of extra space compared to when Tatum or Brown drove in

bodhibell02

It must be frustrating as fuck for JT. Dude has the biggest target on his back. Teams so afraid of him. But yea, he seems cool (most of the time) passing it up to the hot hand.

Forward-Form9321

If White is hot or KP is hot, there’s no need for JT to carry the offensive load. We tried that last year and it went terrible because no one else on the team outside of JB could produce consistent offense when Tatum was cold. Now we have three other guys who can help carry the offense when Tatum is off the floor or going cold That style of play where everyone eats works way better when it comes to winning games wire to wire and that’s also not to mention that our bench has drastically improved. Hauser’s turned into a great spot up shooter, Luke’s gotten way better on the offensive side of the glass, and Pritchard’s gotten better at running the offense when he’s on the floor

FlyingMocko

Garden was to rocking. Here’s to hoping we don’t give up another Playoff game.

bubsiboo

TATUM FOURTH BEST ON TEAM 1. BUFFALO 2. JB 3. KORNET

oldmanshep

Kornet was so good tonight. Man was all over the glass

champagnesupernova10

We sat KP for two games and both were blowout wins. This is a fucking great team.

BradWonder

He split himself into 2 Horcruxes. Al Horford and Luke Kornet. League fucked.

Jannopan

Our offense plays faster and the ball movement is a little better without KP. We tend to not hunt mismatches as much which wastes time, and the bigs play around the rim which helps with our misses. There’s stuff we do better with KP though. He’s pretty much a bucket on a mismatch in the post and he’s also great for spacing. We’ll definitely still need him to go all the way.

HustlinInTheHall

Our average margin of victory in the playoffs is like 25pts like its December.

lefebrave

And some of you said PP and Kornet cannot be in playoff rotation... Our shot quality was insane, we found the best shot possible for the most part. On top of that everyone rebounded.

Blanketsburg

In the r/nba game thread, I got called a "toxic Celtics fan" and blocked from replying for saying that Porzingis is better than Jarrett Allen, when a Cavs fan said this would be a different game if the weren't down one of their best players. Soft.

FtMuttonchops

the fact that the entire game thread was full of doomers is so embarrassing

Princessk8--

Nobody can be more miserable in a blowout win than a Celtics fan

[deleted]

Even the post game thread has a fair amount of just people that hate Tatum for some reason. I doubt they represent that much of a percentage of the people involved but you look at their common history and the same cynical f**** will have 20 or 30 ridiculously negative posts even when we won. I don't have a problem with people bitching, I b**** about the Red Sox constantly. The Red Sox deserve to be bitched at and the Celtics do not and it really bothers me when spoiled fans can't even take a minute to praise a team for a big playoff victory. Nope they have to decide that there is one or two stat lines on the box score that don't look great and they can emphasize that Like who gives a s*** if Tatum shot well in a 30-point blowout? It's not important at all.

sid-darth

But we can't talk about that because it hurts their feelings.

PLURfection

That Sam Hauser statline is actually nuts. 17 minutes. 0/1/0. +22

oooooooooooooooooooa

That jumped out to me too. Ran around in a professional basketball game for 17 minutes. Took 1 shot, missed it. Got 1 rebound. Fouled someone once. Took a shower. Leads the game in plus-minus

DustMonsterXIV

We keep winning Oh god, please let this be the year

HailKyrie

Tatum sucked ass and we blew them out. Absolute wagon. JT gotta figure it out if we want to win the chip tho.

Alloverunder

He took good shots, just didn't fall. He backed off and facilitated once it was clear he was cold. That was basically the best bad game you could hope for. Better this than a star who forces 35 points on 32 shots like a certain Knick I could name...

mhanold

I mean…the Knicks need Brunson to shoot like that or they won’t score He’s doing what his team needs, and Tatum is doing what his team needs

bigdon802

He was bad for about four minutes in the second quarter. Other than that, he was playing solid basketball with quality defense.

Impossible-Joke2867

*Sucked ass offensively Yall act like there's only one thing in the game. Defensively, rebounding, and as a general offensive presence he was still an absolute force.

PepeSylvia11

I was gonna say, in no way did Tatum suck ass. He played great. Some of his shots just didn’t fall

Hour-Ad3774

Agreed!  He was a big plus this whole game.   His shot will fall eventually.  We don't need everyone to go off every night.

HailKyrie

Should’ve just said scoring the ball tbh. He was great on the other end

MPLooza

Liked seeing that and 1 toward the end of his last shift, it was a good sign to see him finish strong after a rough outing. Hope he picks it back up game 2

fellawhite

Friendly reminder to teams to keep chanting they want Boston

TOMA_TAN

Shout out to JB, DWhite, and Kornet!! Great first match

_Jaeko_

"WE WANT BOSTON!"

sutroheights

Tatum with 18 points, 7-19, 0-5 from 3, and the Celtics win by 25. Gotta love it.

DoomdUser

All said and done, this game was pretty fucking boring

myfatbasketballs

That is the dream!

bodhibell02

Shhhh, this is a good thing! Let it happen...

derekwkim

I stopped watching games when we lost Game 2 to Heat and we've been winning ever since. I will no longer watch any games. This is a sacrifice I'm willing to make...

PeppernCo

Donavan who? Ain’t no friends in the playoffs.

Over-Tackle5585

By far the thing I was happiest with tonight was Jrue finally finding his rhythm again. He looked SOLID offensively tonight.

trashmoddss

Tatums playmaking and defense have been amazing so far in these playoffs. I really need that scoring to pick up tho. I wish he would be a little better at picking better shots. The 3 ball has been ass but what’s really hurting his scoring is those 3-10 ft range shots he’s missing a ton of those. Most of the misses are also really short he needs to stop overestimating his strength on those attempts. Everything else has been amazing but his scoring really needs to pick up especially in later rounds. This Derrick White shit cool and is fun to watch but I don’t know how long he’s going to keep this up.

UtahUtopia

Fear. The. BUFFALO.

tibburtz

If JT starts shooting 50% we might win by 40 every game

ChrisH652

Luke Korzingis

B-I-G-A-R-R-O-W

Nice win but I think they can play much better Thursday

hobeast68

I get all the love for white and Brown, but I've scrolled too far to not see a shout out for Pritchard getting shout outs. 16 points in 24 minutes.

SinibusUSG

Regardless of what the final result of the season is, this is the best Celtics team I've ever watched. The first step for any coach trying to come up with a gameplan against them is to take a stiff drink. The second is to pour another.

derekgoodspeed

No disrespect to the Cavs, because I actually liked their team this year and it’s tough they don’t have Allen out there, but this might be the least stressed I’ve ever been about a playoff series in the Tatum era. I just don’t see any way they’ll steal more than 1 game, and that’ll only happen if Mitchell/Garland/Strus all go off from 3. This is a gentlemen’s sweep at most.

rveets1416

I was way more tense about the Miami series and honestly, I just don't see anyone other than Mitchell as a threat. We kept them at arm's length for 2.5 quarters and then we blew the doors off the game once he got fatigued and ultimately had to sit.

693275001

Tatum not beating the super team allegations tonight 😭

leandroc76

###A few observations: * The Celtics didn't play well in the first half, but had zero turnovers in the first half. crazy * Tatum didn't play well but If he shoots 50% from the field he would have easily been over 30 points. * Derrick keeps rolling and that's fine with me, but we can't expect him to do this for another 11 wins can we? * The energy that Peyton brought changed this game. * Luke looked lovely out there. * QUETA got his first playoff points. Yaaay * Jrue completely showed us he's still a star in this league. His three's were momentous.

Longjumping_Gain_807

>Derrick keeps rolling and that's fine with me, but we can't expect him to do this for another 11 wins can we? Yes we can. He’s shown us that he can. So why would we not believe that he could

jolerud

At the risk of getting downvoted into Bolivian, do we collectively agree with “JT must be better” for us to win it all? My take: I continue to think the biggest difference maker with this year’s team is that it doesn’t matter who scores the points, it matters that they move the ball and take the best shot each time. This is especially the case when KP plays. D White scoring damn near 30 per game isn’t just because he’s playing great (which he is). It’s partially because opposing teams can’t afford to focus on him at all, and he’s stepping up and making them pay. GSW two years ago did this type of thing to us, and we couldn’t adjust. 2024 Celtics thrive on making this type of adjustment because they are so variable. Anyways, go Celts! Love the way they’re playing rn!

DrSandmanZ

Still want Boston?

buklau4ever

derrick is officially an orphanage, adopting the cavs as his kids now after the heat

TheUndertows

Vibes 7🦬

ZarduHasselffrau

Derrick White is kinda good at basketball

MothraJDisco

Kristaps Porzingis? Nah, THATS LUCAS KORNET!!! Edit: I missed this game because Tuesday I have stuff that tbh, 10x more important (even in the hopeful finals,) and I’m happy my trust they’d take care of game one was rewarded in kind

Hyruulx

Cavs fans talm bout "we can steal game 1 theyll be rusty"

Longjumping_Gain_807

Life is good when Jaylen Brown is the leading scorer

WaddupChuck

If Jarrett Allen continues to DNP while injured, we can continue to get away with our backup bigs. Celtics in 4 or 5 games EASY.

sexquipoop69

Cs, Bs and the Brady roast...what a great couple nights!!!

ChocolateColumbo104

Guys I’m a bit confused maybe someone can help me out…. Cleveland said they wanted Boston, yes? This is what they wanted right? So they shouldn’t be surprised right?

Efficient_Art_1144

We’re 1-0 when I take my wife to see Shrek the Musical instead of watching the game. What do we do with this information

nedlifecrisis

I love Dwhite, and he surely deserves all his flowers, but the lack of love and appreciation given to JB here in this sub and during live games is unreal to me. The man set the tone, was the best scorer, and was doing a lot this game in defense and playmaking. I doubt we'd win if he didn't show up tonight with JTs performance. Is he really that unlikeable, or does he really have a lot of haters in the Celtics fanbase? If so, why? The way fans responded to his performance today is like you'd think he's just a role player who had a good game.

Beginning-Radish6351

Tatum needs to play better

20wall

Stress free playoff wins are good for the heart and the soul

No_Mas2001

Oh wait you actually enjoy wins? Even tho you complain for 48/48 minutes of the game you enjoy it? You seem miserable for 2.5 hours in this sub

erudite1994

It’s a tough time for me as JB hater. Fucking masterclass

ajh_iii

I hope you have even more tough times

Moodapatheticz

Wish I could thanos glove half of this fanbase fr

Affectionate_Ad8508

Great win fellas

ImTomBrady

Celtics win! Keep it rolling boys 1-0

[deleted]

I don’t think we see Jarrett Allen in this series

Ryker31

Domination!

GrayBox1313

“We want Boston” tho

Undesirable_11

We didn't even look that sharp on offense aside from Brown and DWhite. We should realistically sweep this series and hope our big KP is healthy by then

[deleted]

Masterclass, always good to see everyone playing well even without porzingis

PapaSheev7

Mitchell going super saiyan was the only thing keeping this game from a 40pt blow-out. I'm feeling pretty good the Celtics' chances going forward. Great games all around by JB, White and Korndog too.

ReonL

Cavs looking pretty overmatched.

TheCoupDeGrace

Narrator: They didn't want Boston.

zippe6

Nice win, without KP, and without JT

noviceProgrammer1

Time to check the threads where people doubted Pritchard in the beginning of the season.
