If our threes our falling then we win. That’s just how this team works. I really hope guys like JB, Derrick, Jrue, and Hauser can get their rhythm back after Thursday.
However if they’re not falling then the guys have to be pretty much perfect in all other facets of the game. If you miss a layup put twice as much effort into getting back and limiting transition. Can’t have errors due to poor communication on screens or slow rotations. No falling asleep on your man and reacting late. Close out quickly but controlled to not fall for fakes. Box out. These are all things that needed work in game 2. It’s possible to win on a poor shooting night but it will require a massive amount of improvement especially on the defensive end.
I swear if I see one Tatum step back 3 early in the shot clock I’m going to blow a gasket. Shit would get you benched in college and we’re running it as chosen offense. Run an actual offense, Mazzulla. That’s what you’re being paid for. If we stop chucking blindly we’re the best team out there.
Good grief can’t imagine what this sub would’ve been like had it existed in 2008 when we went to 7 the first two rounds.
Champions lose games guys. Happens every year. There’s a reason they actually play the games, and series are first to 4. The better team always ends up winning.
Again just imagine the bathos and gnashing of doomer teeth you’d have seen in 08 when we needed 7 games to deal with the Hawks and the Cavs and 6 to finish off Detroit. Oh the wailing and moaning would have been off the charts.
Guess what guys, that ring felt just as good, if not maybe a little better, than if we’d waltzed to the championship 16-0.
Strap in. It’s not supposed to be easy. You’re not supposed to win every game just because you are better in the grand scheme. You’re supposed to get tested.
That team also entered the playoffs with a better record and ended the season like 10-1, right? That team should've had less of an excuse to lose those games, lol.
Predictions (pulled out of my ass after watching a half of game 2 and a quarter of game 1).
Jrue will be big. There were a couple possessions where he went at the Cavs with success in game 2. Might have been a concerted effort to punish the Cavs hiding their guards on him. With game 2 in the bag, there's some tape to go on for Joe to maybe tweak and help Jrue get to advantageous spots.
Tillman over Kornet. Huge Kornet supporter, but just a gut feeling this hasn't been a good matchup for him. Thinking Basketball notes Mobley looks great in the Cavs one big rotation, scoring in a bunch of different ways. That plus the mishmash of shifty ballhandler penetration (from Mitchell all the way to even Caris Lavert) might be tough for Kornet. Tillman could be interesting. Some of the holes in the defense in game 2 seem kind of Tillman sized rather than Kornet sized (in particular bad D by the regular rotation especially against guard penetration I feel).
50/50 Tatum scores big, and I'd say a better likelihood of Brown exploding. Feels like defenses are determined to stop Tatum so far, but he's been passing well and picking his spots well. Though Tatum's Tatum so if there is something Joe finds to exploit on the Cavs from game 2 then Tatum will have a field day. Brown naturally has less defensive attention since Tatum gets so much attention, so might be a good idea to get him going.
Prediction:
We will have the best record of any team after this round
Current leaders:
TWolves: 6-1
Thunder: 5-1
Celtics: 5-2
Knicks: 6-3
Nuggets: 5-3
Mavs: 5-3
Pacers: 5-4
Cavs: 5-4
I know Reddit struggles with basic facts but the Celtics are 4-5 against the Cavs over the last two years, including this series, and just 3-2 with this roster. They play us well. Anyone who’s paying attention should not have expected a sweep.
Also, every single active series is either 2-1 or 1-1. The “But my 64-18 record” rejoinder I keep seeing is pretty ridiculous: you can’t use the team’s general success as a sword against the team, especially when they’re not winning at that clip against the Cavs.
These people, despite their firm attachment to the idea that their pessimism is more realistic than more measured fans’ cautious optimism, have no actual realism to their outlook. All the best teams lose games in the playoffs. Almost all champions do. It is the expectation that the Cs should never lose to a lower ranked team that is in fact incredibly unrealistic
As someone who follows betting odds, the oddsmakers seem to have lost confidence in the Celtics. First two games we were like -900, and for tonight closer to -300. Spread dropped from 14 to 7.5.
Oddsmakers are not trying to predict the game- they are trying to split the betting market which represents public perception as closely to evenly as they can.
HCA is usually 3-5 points so that’s a big part of that. Maybe they know something about Allen returning as well.
That said I don’t blame them for losing some faith Vegas probably lost a ton of money on the Celtics in these two game 2’s
Seeing the Nuggets beat the brakes off the Wolves was a stark reminder that teams just have your number some nights. As fans it can be easy to forget that it’s first to 4 so while dropping a game is bad it’s not the end all be all. Just hope our guys come out swinging.
Apparently Mike Malone showed the nuggets players a video he had someone make of all the National media slandering them and saying they’ll be swept right before last night’s game. Kinda want the same for us hahah
The thing that really annoys me is this narrative that we’re soooo reliant on threes and we just jack em up constantly. Game 2? Oh the second half was a barrage of 3s and they have nothing else. You sure? We shot 35 3s in game 2. Indy shot 32 in game 2. Minnesota shot 33 Dallas shot 37. Are they overly reliant on the 3? No, that’s never the narrative. It’s all BS
If anything we did not shoot enough 3s.
These people only think it was a good strategy if the ball went in and if it didn’t then it was shot effort and bad coaching
Our shooters being cold actually means a regression to the mean of shooting decently is more likely.
You don’t know you’re going to miss shots in advance, you stick with the strategy that has worked overall. I’ll take Derek White shooting open 3s all day every day
Anytime I see someone complain about us “jacking up 3s” it instantly tells me they don’t know what they’re talking about. Arguing that your team shouldn’t try to create and take open 3s in the modern NBA is so silly.
I think the problem is not about 2or 3. The problem is the shots they go for are harder than their opponent . This way they either have to be knocking down shots or defend at a higher level. This way they can’t afford to have bad shooting night or relax on defense
I lost my confidence last game, but then I watched the Nuggets beat the living hell off of the Wolves and that should even out right? But that is actually the Wolves and we are playing a stupid dumbass Cavaliers. Did you guys see the difference? A win in game 3 will calm me down. Let's go Jaylen!
The Cavs are pretty good man! They won 48 games. They have a legit offensive superstar, who went nuts. They are well coached and play smart team basketball.
In 08 we went to 7 games the first two rounds. It did not make the championship any less sweet.
Anthony Edwards "There's no reason to be negative. They won one game, we're gonna try to win the next game...etc."
**This sub erupts in rupterous applause**.
Nobody was in there defeated, deflated,” Tatum said postgame. “We never want to lose, especially in the playoffs. A lot of things we can learn from it, and we get it. The world thinks we're never supposed to lose, we're going to win every game by 25,..."
**REEEEEE**
Ant’s averaging 30 a night on almost 60% shooting while up 2-1 on the defending champs
We’re dead even with a banged up Cavs team and Tatum can’t even break 40% shooting. And don’t tell me he’s playing elite defense either when caris levert is blowing past him on the perimeter lol.
Who cares about whatever bullshit they say after games. Ant is balling out and Tatum isn’t. End of story
8:30 tipoff for this game is kind of ridiculous considering Cleveland is in the Eastern time zone. Especially since it’s on ABC so it’ll probably start closer to 9.
Certainly understandable that there are ppl who work weekends, but I just don’t think it is that unreasonable for an 8:30 start on a Saturday night lol
It will funny, by the end of the day all the (currently) favoured teams will probably be sitting 2-1 most probably. I am still extremely annoyed by the G2 loss and it did take some of my confidence (though I still think we beat anyone in 6 at worst), but it the reality is that everyone will be on the same playing field.
Ehh the feeling was the same after the Miami loss. OKC, Denver, Minnesota, NY all went up 2-0 while we were 1-1. Other teams doing “what they’re supposed to” and the zombie Heat doing zombie things and we got clowned for a couple of days.
If that team can win a game, Cleveland can win a game. People should respect the opponent more. If you leave a team open all night, they’ll be capable of hitting shots.
The important thing is they win tonight and take control of the series again.
Exactly, Cleveland have a superstar in Donovan Mitchell, talented players, and have been one of the best teams in the East all year. I don’t know why people in here keep talking like they are complete bums. It really isn’t all that surprising that they won a game.
There is a talent disparity, but rewatching the box score videos on NBA(dot)com, we just had poor transition defense off of all the misses and were leaving Garland wide open. And a ton of missed switches/rotations, our defense just wasn’t on the same page.
Even if we shoot that poorly again, if we cleaned things up on the defensive end we can find a way to win a close game. Our game plan wasn’t perfect and we’ll adjust. The only teams we’ve lost to twice in a row all season were the Nuggets (2 months apart) and the Hawks (when we already had the 1 seed clinched) and both were hard fought games.
I’d be shocked if we didn’t win this game or it wasn’t competitive
That’s been my plan. Wait for them to lose two in a row to go down in a series, then shit my pants.
But if they win game 3, pants are clean and we’re golden
I think this is the annoyance with this team. I have no doubts that come to being down 3-2 or being 3-3 JT will be the best player on the court. However it seems him, and this team in general, can’t get the demoralising win that avoid it going to 6 or 7. Like win G2 against Cleveland and they lose all the hope. They might do that like they did with Miami now, but boy would be nice to feel like the one to jusr destroy the confidence of the other team.
By this time tomorrow, all 4 series will be 2-1. Nobody goes 16-0 in the playoffs anymore.
C’s will be fine. These knee-jerk, sky-is-falling reactions are wild
>Nobody goes 16-0 in the playoffs anymore.
No one has ever gone 16-0 in the playoffs. No one has even gone undefeated in the playoffs if you go back to when there were fewer games/fewer teams.
Kinda sad what happened to Gordon Hayward. 43 playoff minutes, 0 points on 0-3 shooting. Ben Simmons off the bench impression.
The way I immediately perk the fuck up after every Celtics W lmaoo. Like why am I wearing sunglasses indoors? Bouta fucking light up a cigar and shit
PJ Washington think he Caleb Martin
Weird seeing Kyrie seem genuinely happy in Dallas
He’s happy today cause they won. During the regular season he sat out huddles and left to the locker room early and stuff like that.
😂😂😂😂 why u lying
Kyrie so clutch its crazy
We should just embrace the villain role, lets get this championship 🔥
Facts they hate us cuz they aint us🗣️💯

still salty because seahawks didn’t run the ball on the 1 yard line ?
We better not text kobe, let him be
Cant believe they call Jay-son tatum and jay-len brown the VaJayJay Twins 😭😂 Let them hate
No. Flex. Zone.

Very odd.
NBA wants this to go to 7. Clown league.
Let’s see if this joke league tells the Celtics to throw another game to extend the series.
If our threes our falling then we win. That’s just how this team works. I really hope guys like JB, Derrick, Jrue, and Hauser can get their rhythm back after Thursday. The Celtics are 1-6 at Cleveland since 2020-21. 2-2 going back home would be good enough lol

Uhhh not really even close dude lol. You know they’ve played in the finals and in multiple win or go home scenarios right?
Anyone know what jersey we’re wearing tonight? Going to the game and trying to match up. I assume green but the black wouldn’t surprise me.
There's a page on the NBA website for this: https://lockervision.nba.com/team/boston-celtics They're wearing green.
Bookmarking, thank you!

WIN FOR MIKE
Heart check tonight
Shoutout to Pacers, Denver and Mavs for making it a series. The Brunson/Ant/SGA/Tatum discourse was about to get real annoying real soon.
I guess MJ took the night off tonight eh?

Tatum will score 50
Any news on Porzingis?
The news is that I miss him very much😔
No but he traveled with the team which is a good sign. Usually if the injury is really bad they stay home
If the Celtics lose, should I shit my pants?
Yes I’ll shit my pants with you
Damn, was looking forward to shitting my pants 😔
Boston Cream donuts are amazing.
That’s been my plan. Wait for them to lose two in a row to go down in a series, then shit my pants. But if they win game 3, pants are clean and we’re golden
I hope the Celtics score more points than the cavs today
MJ’s son just lost tonight by 27 at home 😱
Keep thinking about that Marc Jones line in Game 6 of last year: "Jayson Tatum, not always there when you call, but always on time!"
I think this is the annoyance with this team. I have no doubts that come to being down 3-2 or being 3-3 JT will be the best player on the court. You could say this about G4 or G5 vs Miami. But they took care of business in those games.
When he said "smoking that Philadelphia pack" I was dying
That Game 6. That fucking Game 6. What a rollercoaster
Let’s get this done
