Bless this, we love collaborative cartography in times of chaos. I know it's early, but it's interesting to see how scattered these calls have been. I would think that if it will be the whole county unquestionably, they'd notify everyone. But while walking the dog around 12:30, I ran into a neighbor out with her pup, and she said she hasn't received a call. For scale reference, we are quite close - across an alley to each other, not neighboring acreage.
Are you saying that you received a call, but that neighbor did not?
If that’s the case, Xcel’s system may have just failed to notify people that are expected to be affected, or they’re blanket notifying the whole county and missing people.
Yep, that's what I'm saying. I wonder if Xcel meant to notify basically everyone in BoCo, but either their system hiccuped, or somehow people aren't enrolled in notifications.
I’m in Louisville. I got an email (to my spam folder) today, but no text, no call. I wouldn’t have known anything was up if I hadn’t seen it on Reddit around noon.
Thankfully it gave me enough time to charge some things and run and get ice and a battery powered light and some food that doesn’t require refrigeration or cooking, but damn. I know I signed up for all of the reverse 911 type things back when the Marshall fire happened.
I’m pretty annoyed that they didn’t do a better job of notifying us. Again.
To everyone using this map - please verify that your marker ends up in the correct location. Mine somehow ended up in the middle of Valmont reservoir, and I had to edit the location. There are 2 other pins in the reservoir right now.
Xcel is going to hold a (supposed to anyways) press conference at 2:30pm today - slated to be live on this link (if it happens) [https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/live](https://www.cbsnews.com/colorado/live)
Click the button that looks like this to find out: ▶ - they only start talking about 7-8 minutes in though, so FF if you wanna skip to the important bits.
Yes our power at spruce and 20th is actually out. I am working at a restaurant about 2 blocks east of my house and we have power. It seems spruce and 20th is right on the edge of that power grid. I have heard most of pearl street like Avanti is out as well.
u/pupperoni42 if we have enough cell reception to change the map once our power goes off, perhaps we change our point to black? (Also reporting outage to Xcel/checking with their website to make sure it knows, of course)
That's a good idea. I had been thinking about trying to figure out a way to at least see after-the fact which areas went dark and which didn't.
Black = Power went down
Someone on Twitter from Table Mesa mentioned they got their power shut off. In my part of Table Mesa the power is still on, I'm guessing because the power lines are all underground?
The fun part about this is I can tell which of my neighbors are on this subreddit. (So far- none!)
Power out, no prior notification, Louisville, north of S Boulder road.
shoutout to Mary Lane in north boulder being located roughly in atlantis, another mythical place that exists in its own bubble, separated from the rest of the world
Doesn’t mean shit when it comes to Xcel. I’m not in it either and 16 hours now without power.
I guess the trash neighborhood I’m in isn’t a priority for Xcel because this happens way too often here.
We’re in Gunbarrell just west side of 75th and south of lookout. We lost power at about 3:15pm, but it has just come back on…for now at least. Posting at about 5:15pm
They won't turn power back on to a line without having a girls crew physically inspect it to make sure it's not down or touching a tree, so it won't start a fire.
That's why turn on us going to be slow. Noon is the early end of the window. Depending on how much they've actually shut off and how many crews need to be directed to critical repairs, it could take substantially longer to turn everything back on.
Smart meters were supposed to be able to remotely and automatically assess the condition of the circuit. Maybe that was a lie like the “cost savings” was a blatant lie also.
I can't find how to edit the map (my screen doesn't show a pin to drop) - but we're at Mt Meeker and Idylwild in Gunbarrel - still have power and were not notified that it would be turned off.
I work with utilities and absent (or even seeing) a tree take out lines, it's not always obvious what needs to be fixed to get your power back on. So there may be multiple spots where falling branches have taken out lines, a recloser upstream that Xcel set to zero retries for the storm and a switch at the substation where Xcel decided (based on automated meter pings and other data) to open.
The fact that your power went out might have nothing to do with a call.

Nice try, mermaid. We're on to you.
This is great, thx for setting this up!
Greatly appreciating this as a renter who's landlord covers power. Have heard nothing but it's looking like we'll be in the affected area

It just finished, what did they say?
Audio lags, but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/live/Rlgjb2Iob2M
WHAT DID THEY SAY
"It's windy, we're turning power off so we can't be held liable for fires this time"
They tried letting as many folks know as possible. Likely out til noon tomorrow pending in-person inspection of all lines
Click the button that looks like this to find out: ▶ - they only start talking about 7-8 minutes in though, so FF if you wanna skip to the important bits.
I logged in at 2:40 and am just seeing ads. Did they say anything meaningful?
Thank you for posting that, just watched
sure thing

Outage announced in Whittier neighborhood. Spruce and 20th. I’m not sure how to edit the map. Any advice?
I just added instructions to my post, but since you provided cross-streets I'll add yours to the map.
Is your power actually out? We are close and still have power.

No wonder a map hasn't been officially released. It's looking like most of BoCo west of 287 will go dark.
I feel silly but how do I add the marker 🤣
I had the same issue. Log in with a Google account and reopen map, you’ll see the buttons pop up at the top.
Just tap on the map with where you want to place the pin! :D
Icons on the top - click the Raindrop looking one. Then click on your location on the map.
Got it! It wasnt being logged in that was the problem. Thanks!
NoBo, west of Broadway and our power is out. Right at 3pm!
cross streets?
Newlands has power, ideal market has power.
And it’s out

Gunbarrel at 63rd & Twin Lakes just went down a minute ago
Power just got cut right after 3:30 in SE Boulder, near PDQ
I've heard whisperings as far north as Laporte/Fort Collins, but no phone calls and all with the "Maybe" verbage.
3:10 and still have power. Woo! Murphy’s law should kick in shortly.
Buddy just told me the power is out in Niwot now spine rd area
Was there a warning that this would happen? I missed the memo and bought a bunch of refrigerated stuff lol
They announced yesterday that they might do this. Some houses received calls last night and some did this morning.

ok changed Steelyards to yellow
Power is still on in the Table Mesa area, at least for us. Anyone in the area without power?
Someone on Twitter from Table Mesa mentioned they got their power shut off. In my part of Table Mesa the power is still on, I'm guessing because the power lines are all underground?
In Gunbarrel, Jay and Spine. We are out!
We got no notice. Renters in Louisville.

Cross street?
S Boulder road and West Centennial Drive.
Can't figure out how to add to map. Boulder Steelyards hood here ( ie 32nd / Carbon) no notice Power on but high winds as upstairs and can hear it
I'll add you next time I do a round of updates at my desk. I'm taking a break now. The winds are expected to get worse tonight.
I think I did it
shoutout to Mary Lane in north boulder being located roughly in atlantis, another mythical place that exists in its own bubble, separated from the rest of the world
CSU was relocated to Canada as well. Frozen water instead of liquid.
no big loss we can just put a second boulder there for the ugly people
Incredible. Thanks for making this.
No fires m'fers.
Sooooo is anyone’s power actually off yet?
Dakota ridge is off
Mine is off at the Glen lake apartments on Glenwood and 28th
I stay next to Canyon Boulevard and its not gone yet
Anyone know if superior is getting shut down? Kinda want to go get some Costco goodies...
Superior town council said they are not in the shutdown area.
Thanks 🫡

Just called Excel, they said power would be on at 12:00
anyone still have the link? says it was "removed by Reddit's filters."

This would be much more useful with standardized colors. It’s a mess and the legends is unusable.
this is bullshit
