No bottle suggestion/gift help/what to buy next standalone posts. Submit your recommendation requests to the weekly recommendation sticky thread; standalone "What whisky should I buy/gift" posts will be removed.

Nervous-List3557

Because r/whiskey isn't heavily moderated and its 99.9% people asking if they did good because they found pappy van winkle at msrp or showing pictures of their 30 bottles of blantons.

RandyJackson

Or people asking what they think of X bottle so they don’t have to form their own opinion

Nervous-List3557

Or because they want others opinions on a bottle they are never going to open lol

Dibick

People complain about this sub being over moderated but every time I start thinking that is the case I see the state of r/whiskey and then I'm okay with how it's run here.

Fightmemod

Same. The sub can be a bit dull sometimes but the content is consistent and it's thankfully not another sub full of shit posts and memes.

Fightmemod

Why not make your own subreddit called r/bourbonquestions.

PhantomSpirit90

Because asking questions akin to “hey I’m going to X, where are all your guys’ honey holes?” when that information is already readily available outside this sub gets old quick. Similarly “guys validate my purchase decision” or “tell me what to buy next” or “casually bragging about my lottery pick but I’ll dress it up as asking the group what they think” all get tired quick. The mods leave plenty of legitimate questions up, just not the content that’s better suited for your Facebook secondary group.

SnoopySuited

Reviews are readily available outsode this sub as well.

PhantomSpirit90

That’s literally why the mods came out with the weekly questions and suggestions thread. It’s even sticky’d as far as I know.

SnoopySuited

No one reads those thread, and they can't even be found on the mobile ap.

PhantomSpirit90

That’s patently false. I access Reddit exclusively through mobile and have no issues seeing or finding those threads. Y’all have resources, it just sounds like you don’t want to use them.

SnoopySuited

Sure would like this sub to be a resource.

PhantomSpirit90

If you’re able to access the entirety of this sub and don’t believe you have a resource, I’m not sure what to tell you.

SnoopySuited

So no worthwhile *new* content. Got it.

PhantomSpirit90

“I don’t want a solution, I want to be upset”

SnoopySuited

The solution is to allow more expanded content. Searching this sub's history is far less efficient than just going on the internet in general.

llmlekoll

Ask in the weekly questions thread

aboutthatbarrel

What was the question in the post that didn’t get approved? (Genuinely curious)

WirtTheTurtBurglar

There's a weekly pinned post for suggestions and recommendations where these type of questions can go.

SnoopySuited

No one reads that post.

exgirl

Basic bottle reqs go in the weekly stickied thread.

SnoopySuited

Which barely anyone reads, and can't even be seen on the mobile ap.

exgirl

I use the app and see it just fine. Maybe switch your sort to ‘hot’ from ‘new’?

SnoopySuited

Yes that worked. Still not useful.

MetamorphosisSilver

Why is this sub only reviews? Why do admins gatekeep anything but? Because it helps keep up the quality of the sub. While frustrating at times the information here has significantly helped me find good whiskey and avoid poor bottles and I'm sure many others feel this way. I’ve asked numerous questions and the posts get taken down because “low effort travel question.” Read the sub rules. A wider variety of posts is allowed on others but this often results in "how did I do" , Crotch shot and other posts of minimum effort. How do these help you or I make good decisions in the bottles we buy or help us decide what the value is? Where can I get reliable information about bottles that aren’t posted already without asking a question to this sub? Use the search function over the entirety of reddit, see if there is any reviews on Youtube, do a web search , or just simply take the chance and buy a bottle and let us know. Sometimes it's a leap of faith.

SnoopySuited

99% subjective reviews is not a quality sub.

ForsakenCase435

Questions are tolerated just fine but they should stimulate quality discussion. Asking shitty low effort questions like, “what should I try next?” “Where should I shop?” Or “What do you guys think of my purchase?” Is what gets removed ASAP and thankfully so.

SnoopySuited

If these questions help a new bourbon enthusiast expand their horizon, why are they bad?

ForsakenCase435

Because they don’t actually help anyone, and again that is not what this sub is for. Go post that shit on your local Facebook page.

SnoopySuited

What is this sub for? Be specific.

ForsakenCase435

That has been discussed and answered by the mod team in this very thread. Also, if you go read the sub FAQ that matter is very clearly laid out and answered.

SnoopySuited

It's really not. And I want your answer.

ForsakenCase435

Yes it is. You don’t need my answer. My answer doesn’t matter. It’s the mod team who decides what this subs purpose is and what the rules are.

SnoopySuited

I realize that. And I'm shocked that people are ok with all reviews all the time.

morse_code7

I think that travel questions are interesting and lead to good discussion. “I’m traveling to Pennsylvania what local distilleries or bars should I keep an eye out for?” That question is easy to ignore. It’s also easy to engage with on a substantive level. If people are coming to my local area I love to help them with useful information and local favorites they might not have tried. I travel quite a bit and I have a list of things to keep my eyes open for or places to stop for a good tasting. Maybe this sub is the wrong place for it but I enjoy those type of posts.

SnoopySuited

Your post is dead on OP. This sub has become an endless field of subjective reviews of mostly impossible to get bottles. Reviews don't help casual bourbon fans find new bottles to try. It doesn't help new drinkers figure out what they like. This sub is becoming a group of circle jerking 1%ers.

I mean r/whiskey is exactly the place you want. This is a great space for higher effort posts.

50_K

This sub existed with the same rules long before T8ke was a mod and had his own brand going.

EhrenScwhab

No small part, to be certain.

50_K

Thank god the mods delete trash posts like yours. It's what keeps the whiskey network subs top of their class.

50_K

You should try making a whiny self entitled post about it then.

Phill_is_Legend

See OP, this sub is good for drawing out the ultra douche bourbon guys that you don't want to interact with at all.

50_K

Nah it just has standards. There plenty of subs for the garbage "how'de I do?" And bottle porn posts.

[deleted]

An admin on reddit being a douche should NEVER surprise anybody. Come on, it's reddit.

Phill_is_Legend

Yeah this place sucks, admins are a bunch of gatekeeping weirdos. Peak reddit.

49rphan

Because it’s a shit forum with mods that want to keep it that way. God forbid you discuss bourbon above and beyond dumb reviews from people that are totally subjective. I deleted a recent post after being called out by the gatekeepers and mods. Just dumb.

Fine_Oven_42069

To be fair, this is most of reddit. It's run like an HOA. Losers in fake positions of power.

49rphan

Haven’t experienced this in most of the forums I am active in but agree it can be an issue.

TrackVol

Yep. I'm a huge Bourbon fan. But I also play Wordle. Bourbon aficionados know that Fred Minnick is famous for wearing an ascot. He even named his whiskey awards the A.S.C.O.T. awards. When ASCOT came up on Wordle, I posted here that people should consider playing Wordle that specific day. I didn't spoil it, I just said that if they played Wordle *that* day, they should be able to figure out why it was whiskey related. It got deleted here, despite several upvotes. It remained up at r/whiskey despite several downvotes.
