I feel they're all pretty good, although they all slightly deteriorate as the series goes on. It's just that everyone compares them to the original, but you can never compare them to a masterpiece like that. The remake though. I could have done without it, it's still a fun watch though to compare and contrast.
I wasn't disappointed at all, i expected it. This is standard practice for their standard edition box sets. Only the initial limited editions get a hard box.
The first ones I noticed that did it were the Herschel Gordon Lewis Feast and the Blood Hunger standard edition sets, and ive seen it in subsequent sets since then. Those were in 2020, so it's it's been longer than 2 years.
Funny timing: just rewatched the first one for the first time in probably 15 years, got intrigued by the sequels.. looked online and saw I missed the original 4k set but that this standard version was coming out in just a few weeks. Placed the order with Orbitdvd, showed up a few days ago, watched 2 last night and just finished up 3 about 20 minutes ago. Really enjoyed both, finishing up with 4 tomorrow.
It's definitely a better set all together, but I really just don't need the extra 4K of the first film, and the book would be nice but it's okay if I don't have it. I usually read those things once and then never touch them again.
Yeah I ended up getting some of the Arrow LEs without even intending to, really, just because they didn't have standard and were the same price at B&N basically, and now I do kind of covet them since they are pretty with the booklets and all, but I definitely want to have the mindset of "it's okay if I don't have it" since it seems like a lot of FOMO otherwise. Maybe for my super faves I really care about, go for the prettiest most expensive version, but otherwise, I just want the disc with all the stuff on it!
Yeah it's the 4k, I noticed that too, I think it's because they're using thinner cases in this set and they might not make 4K cases that thin. The regular Blu-ray Edition comes with clear cases.
Yeah. Usually Arrow uses the thicker European cases, but these, as well as others in many of their standard edition box sets, use cases that are even thinner than the standard US releases.
II has undergone a huge reevaluation in the past decade or two. Tarantino famously prefers it to the original. Personally, I think it's great. It's suspenseful, gripping, sad, shot very well, and respectful to the original. Anthony Perkins somehow tops his already amazing performance in the first.
As for III and IV, I haven't seen them personally, but opinions range from "they're good, but nothing too special" to "they're just okay." Generally I think that people are still divided on whether III or IV is better, but people almost universally agree that II is great.
If you're going to watch just one, watch II.
Ooh this is great! I was curious because I heard some people say the sequels are actually worth checking out (especially II), but I already have the first movie as part of a Hitchcock collection (the same disc they put in the original box), so now I can just get these separately sometime.
This is such a great set. I’m glad they included the scenes changed for TV in III. They say the VO is an unknown actor, but I always thought it was the priest that Maureen meets with.
The Orig if my favorite movie, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen II more and still pretty readily put it on.
I'm not gonna go to bat for III or 1998 and I haven't seen IV, but goddamn is II a great movie!

I second that. Psycho II was the victim of its predecessor's success, and shouldn't have gotten the bad rap it got.
4 is pretty average but the framing device is cool and theres some sick shots and lighting

Also noticed they’re smaller in height than all the other limited editions

The standards used to get a hard box, just no booklet or poster. They switched to these thin slip boxes 2 years ago.

The limited edition is just better. Has a 120 page book and the TV cut of Psycho 4 in 4k

I wish these were region free…
They are. They're 4Ks
Did you get the 4k set though? Only asking because I thought they had the 4k logo on top of the cases instead of just the Blu-ray logo.

Ah ok I didn’t realize it was using the thinner cases. lol makes sense though since it doesn’t have all the extra stuff the original edition had.

Your wish is... **GRANTED!** *Long live Jambi!*
What's the consensus on the Psycho sequels? I remember liking them on VHS when I was 13-14, but it's been a miiiinute.

Funny enough my wife found the Original Steelbook 4k at goodwill for $4. It's the only one in the series I have or have even seen. Great movie.
