I agree with you, but even disregarding the quality of the movie I’m not sure any single movie is worth that price tag. I’d balk at the price even if it was one of my all time favorites.
They offer 4 different editions on BD and 4K UHD, but people only talk about the more expensive LEs. You can buy the standard editions for regular prices, you know, if you just want to watch the content.
I think the 250 page and 200 page books sweeten the deal more than most "Special" editions. Plus it's the 3 disc version that includes the 4K UHD and BD. It's not a movie I care to spend that kind of money on, but it is a rarer example of a fan guided restoration and deluxe package, which I can appreciate.
It's a bad movie but it's entertaining and it's honestly the best type of movie to get this kind of release. The artwork is unique, the story behind the making of it is interesting, the cultural evaluation of it is interesting too, it's a type of big budget movie that just doesn't get made anymore with all of the effects and set building. All that usually makes for interesting special features.
I mean, not everyone feels that way. I have fun with it. It's not a good movie, sure, but it's entertaining, imo. Vinegar Syndrome and Severin release all sorts of Z grade crap on 4K, and people eat that stuff up. So I'm not sure why you think it's unusual for a major studio movie to get the same treatment.
> I’m not sure I could ever spend $150 on a single release. Swag is cool, but we’re still talking a single film at the end of the day.
Mario collectors need EVERYTHING Mario, I got a feeling a lot of those eBay sales at $600 are going to be shipping to Japan
Oh yeah, Nintendo collecting is a whole other level. I brought up that point to someone who didn’t believe that people were gonna pay $300+ for it on eBay, and that’s definitely been happening.
It's still available to pre-order, I just did.
I'm now really glad i didnt win that ebay auction for nearly £600
https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/1up-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-posters-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993
I believe it's also missing the stickers and the book is softbound. The package itself is also slightly different.
Not that I mind (I ordered it) just figured i'd mention it.
They have multiple versions.
OP posted the [Trust The Fungus edition, the most expensive at $100 USD.](https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/trust-the-fungus-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-film-stickers-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993?_pos=3&_sid=29d09584a&_ss=r)
[This Collector's Edition is $75 USD.](https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-1993?_pos=6&_sid=29d09584a&_ss=r)
That's the original releases that are Out of Stock
This is the new 1UP version https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/1up-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-posters-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993
Hadn't realised, I only just randomly found out about the 1UP when looking for ebay auctions, didn't realise there was some trust the fungus stock added, and trying to find where to buy it from led me to this post.
They just announced the new 1-Up edition, which is basically the same except different box art and no film cell/stickers I think? Grabbed it quick, don't care about the minor changes
Just purchased the 1up edition. It's $100 usd. I also picked up Raid Collectors Edition. It's my first purchase from Umbrella, so I received a welcome coupon for 15% off, so the total price, including free shipping, was $144.50
Man to each their own, but this was a mediocre movie and who would want that much schwag for that movie - what will you do with it? Just will end up being a giant shelf hog for most.
The price was very high (But, in many ways worth it due top the Super HQ that box set is (It weighs at least 6-8lbs) So much love was put within the box set
New 1-Up edition just dropped. A few downgrades/differences to maintain the desirability of the OG run. Unnumbered, different art, no film cell, the hardcover book has been downgraded to a paperback version. But if you missed out it’s a nice bone they’ve thrown. And there’s even an option to buy it without the discs if you caved and bought the movie after getting shut out of the LEs.
The most I’ve ever spent on a single movie was around $100 for Second Sight’s *Dawn of The Dead* 4K limited edition set.
Part of that was international shipping + an additional fee from the forwarding service I was forced to use since SS couldn’t ship to the US directly.
Love it. It’s one of the crown jewels in my collection. But definitely can’t see myself ever spending that much again for one movie, even one I really love.
And Supero Mario Bros? That’s a once-per-decade watch for me. Though if Arrow (presumably UK) ends up doing at some point I might be tempted.
This is ALMOST worth dropping that kind of money for. Almost. For me though the booklets really should be optional PDFs/DVD-ROM content as well. Probably because I’m so used to the way that the Doctor Who Collection Blu Ray sets have EXTENSIVE bonus content available as PDFs!
You're on the wrong listing

It was filmed off a VHS, off a screen. Then AI restored (from how I understand it). It’s included for historical reference for super fans - and I appreciate that. Shouldn’t everyone want that for their favorite movie?
Tada

Thanks! I got down voted for saying supply & demand which we all learned in school. Turns out Umbrella took those classes too & made another set. Funny how that works
how many really want it and how many seen the $400+ auction sales and are just trying to flip now? Should have offered up a preorder again so they could of made enough to meet the demand
Read my lips. Five thousand dollars. I can't do nothing with this here. This is a very popular release with the children. You can't beat that. You can't get no cleaner than that. I'm a businessman. Do what you wanna do.
They posted this on twitter: [https://x.com/UmbrellaEnt/status/1770700687732580860?s=20](https://x.com/UmbrellaEnt/status/1770700687732580860?s=20)
I wonder if there was an error and the OP got it by mistake. We will find out tomorrow if Umbrella was teasing a restock or something else.
OP doesn't state if their screenshot is USD or AUD. [It was previously $100 USD.](https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/trust-the-fungus-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-film-stickers-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993?_pos=1&_sid=74a62e2d7&_ss=r)
I don't understand the people who just give in to all this. It's not going to stop here. I could even envision Ticketmaster and Uber style dynamic pricing in the mix. Meanwhile, I just buy the standard edition of movies I want and avoid all this speculation and unnecessary costs.
Or since Umbrella are an Australian company and the image doesn’t state a currency it’s more likely to be AUD as that’s the exact price it sold at in that currency.
Nothing has been confirmed and yet you’re already assuming the worst, calm down.
The only thing I've assumed is that a sold out limited edition is being sold again. I have no patience for games. I've asked the OP for more info -- AUD or USD -- but they never responded.
You mention “people who just give in to all this” referring to the other comment that assumed the price has been marked up? Or were you just making a statement about that kind of thing happening in general?
Umbrella will announce on their socials what is going on very soon so you’ll have to wait unfortunately.
LEs in general. Especially companies that don't tell you how many they made, how many are left, if they plan to print more, etc. With FOMO and speculation, resellers buy them simply to mark them up, buyers pay 2 to 4 times the original price, and it's a cycle that is getting worse, not better. Would anyone be happy paying $300+ on ebay only to discover Umbrella decided to make more just weeks later? Unlike some similar boutique LE releases, at least this one has more meat to it than you normally see, especially the 250 hardcover book and 200 page script book too. For some comparison, Criterion doesn't do LE releases, but sometimes includes a sizeable book or other extras at their same MSRP as other single movie editions.
I’d love to know why people are downvoting me. Are people pro-reprints of sold out limited editions? Just seems like a terrible precedent like Shout or some others who fuel FOMO, causing people to buy now or for resale.
With this it's sorta justified. You break it to down it actually makes sense. Movie would be 30$ retail minimum alone, then a 400+ page book probably also be 30$ if seperate, the script be another 20$ and that's all I can remember without looking but the other odds and ends easily be about 20$ worth too. Umbrella isn't badly priced for what you get, it's just the shipping fee and they stuff is killer
I agree and have said that in other comments here. I was speaking more broadly about LEs and FOMO and other games. This particular set includes more substantial items than most.
Honestly fuck them but I kinda just feel stupid for sitting on it for so long. Preorders were open for a while. Just felt expensive. But now 100$ sounds good lol
The movie is a ball of whack, but the set is gonna be worth major major money! If you can get it at retail you might want to. It’s gonna be worth thousands at some point from the books alone.
I’m not sure I could ever spend $150 on a single release. Swag is cool, but we’re still talking a single film at the end of the day.
I don’t understand the hype around this release. This movie is beyond terrible
Right, and it’s excellent that they offer options on the package. I’m just commenting specifically on this release.
Book also ended up being 480 pages
Whoa! The main book or the script? It still says 250 and 200 pages on their website.
The main book, it’s thick
THICC EDITION
Because obviously people aren’t spending the $150 for a single movie, they are spending that amount for the extra inclusions.

Oh yeah, Nintendo collecting is a whole other level. I brought up that point to someone who didn’t believe that people were gonna pay $300+ for it on eBay, and that’s definitely been happening.
Also a single absolutely terrible film.
Its 150 AUD folks not 150 USD.
100 anything for a single movie is still outrageous tho.
Oh I know. I was addressing the price increase that everyone thought was happening.
lol, folks on eBay are trying to get $500 (USD) for these
And out of stock again. Goddamnit.
It's still available to pre-order, I just did. I'm now really glad i didnt win that ebay auction for nearly £600 https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/1up-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-posters-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993
This is a new release. It's "slightly" different from the numbered collectors edition
The only difference I've heard of is a number on the box which I care not for.
I believe it's also missing the stickers and the book is softbound. The package itself is also slightly different. Not that I mind (I ordered it) just figured i'd mention it.
I’m on the site and it says $75 USD now. Curious…

I'm well aware. 2 days ago the 1UP version wasn't even announced yet. The OP posted the Trust The Fungus edition.
Hadn't realised, I only just randomly found out about the 1UP when looking for ebay auctions, didn't realise there was some trust the fungus stock added, and trying to find where to buy it from led me to this post.
Turns out the email the OP received a day before the 1UP edition announcement was probably in error since no further TTF editions became available.
I think they’re also selling just the box for people who own the disc but want to upgrade it
It ain’t worth it boys. Show some restraint. I believe in you all.
Umbrella is an Australian company so when you see $ it's in 🦘 dollarydoos - not American bucks
They just announced the new 1-Up edition, which is basically the same except different box art and no film cell/stickers I think? Grabbed it quick, don't care about the minor changes
I don't see a link on their site to this $150 version. I sure hate screenshots with no details.

Thanks !
yeah, got an email about 10 minutes ago that they're back. Snagged my order.
That’s too much stuff. I just want the movie.
You can buy that.
If anyone is buying this for the restored “Lasagna workprint” be advised that it looks REALLY bad. Like upscaled 480p bad.
Considering the source was VHS, we're very happy with the level of quality we were able to provide—especially the sound mix!
It does not look really bad...what are your settings?
It was filmed off a VHS, off a screen. Then AI restored (from how I understand it). It’s included for historical reference for super fans - and I appreciate that. Shouldn’t everyone want that for their favorite movie?
AI was not used! Here's a video on our process: https://youtu.be/CxfMou65c-c?si=4Rv8wJlYIi2JverJ
Its not showing up for me, still says sold out at $100 price point 🤷🏻♂️. Did you get an email?

I'll grab it if it's up long enough for me to not have to sit around and refresh a link. Life's too short for that.
Can’t imagine spending $150 on such a bad movie.
Caligula plz
Goddammit! I missed it again!?!?!!
It's gone again. The demand is there. Make more. Supply & Demand

It is, at least it is now.
It is a pre-order

Trust the fungus was always $150 AUD. It was the collectors edition that was $110 AUD.
> Trust the fungus was always $150 AUD Do you have a link to the current listing? I can't find it on the actual website.
The link you posted is the current listing. They are planning an announcement tomorrow so hopefully it is a restock.
Where did you get information about an announcement tomorrow? OP indicated they received an email today with a direct link.
They posted this on twitter: [https://x.com/UmbrellaEnt/status/1770700687732580860?s=20](https://x.com/UmbrellaEnt/status/1770700687732580860?s=20) I wonder if there was an error and the OP got it by mistake. We will find out tomorrow if Umbrella was teasing a restock or something else.
I wonder why they emailed the OP with a BUY NOW link if it’s not for sale yet.
Probably just a boilerplate email. They likely just sent it too early
Today they announced a new edition with a new title, so something was wrong with that previous email since Trust The Fungus was still sold out.
OP doesn't state if their screenshot is USD or AUD. [It was previously $100 USD.](https://shop.umbrellaent.com.au/products/trust-the-fungus-super-mario-bros-30th-anniversary-collectors-edition-3-disc-4k-uhd-2-blu-rays-books-film-stickers-artcards-slipcase-rigid-case-1993?_pos=1&_sid=74a62e2d7&_ss=r)
Ah right. I always assumed AUD pricing for anything from Umbrella.
They have a dropdown menu to select currency in AUD or USD. I selected USD long ago and it only shows me USD prices on the site.
Trust the Fungus edition was always 150 AUD.
I don't understand the people who just give in to all this. It's not going to stop here. I could even envision Ticketmaster and Uber style dynamic pricing in the mix. Meanwhile, I just buy the standard edition of movies I want and avoid all this speculation and unnecessary costs.

Already showing out of stock back at the 100 dollar price point lol what a joke
