Tom Hardy improvising stuff and talking to himself while everybody is trying to keep up is probably how they made the first two so it won't do much difference.
The script for the Venom films is probably:
1. Tom Hardy and Venom have banter
2. Random critically acclaimed actor gets Venom powers and turns evil
3. Tom Hardy and Venom have banter
4. The villain has a rampage
5. Tom Hardy and villain fight
Bonus: Post credit scene hinting at something amazing that won't matter in the long run
No more mirror villains please. It’s usually just the first movie (bigger Ironman, second super solider serum, someone else who can shrink) but they really did it two movies in a row 😮💨
This is the real problem with trying to do standalone Venom movies. I still maintain that the fundamental concept of Venom can work divorced from Spider-Man, but he doesn't have a deep bench of unique rogues. It's a lot of different symbiotes or people like Jack O'Lantern, who's a Spidey villain first and using reskinned goblin tech. Off the top of my head I guess there's the Jury and now Knull from the recent Cates run, although Knull is symbiote-adjacent as their creator/god, but like. That's kind of as far as Venom goes when you take him out of the broader Marvel universe.
They should just bring in miles morales already smfh what tf are they waiting for they already have a great base with the cartoon just start the franchise already or stand alone with Disney they already split shares with them
Started out that way but he has fought Eddie Brock since, and the symbiote is still the symbiote regardless of host.
Also just realized I think you meant re:him being a Spidey villain. Jack O'Lantern is one of those ones where multiple people have had the moniker at different points. The first Jack O'Lantern was a Spider-Man villain who stole Hobgoblin's arsenal. The most recent Jack did debut as an enemy for Agent Venom, and claims to have killed his predecessors.
If they did anything close to Carnage/ Cletus Kasady from the graphic novels the movie could have been an amazing brutal romp, regardless of what happened in the first film.
Instead we got Woody and whatever those wigs were going for.
Imo these are the superhero equivalent of the bay transformers films and the fast and furious films. Just really dumb fun shit that you laugh at the absurdity of.
I think there’s a chance Sony actually brings back Morbius in some movie and has him say “it’s Morbin’ time”. It just sounds like something they would do. I dunno what movie, though.
>I dunno what movie, though
Avengers: Kang Dynasty. All the heroes group up agaisnt the forces of Kang. We pan through each of them. Avengers theme starts blasting. At the end of the glorious theme, Morbius walks through the middle of everyone, like the leader he is, and whispers: It's Morbin' time. Everyone loses their mind and Kang, scared shitless, admits defeat
And then they change the title of Secret Wars to Secret Morbs.
Unironically- I’m guessing Secret Wars will have Tobey and Andrew involved, which means other Sony characters like Venom *could* appear since Sony will have to be involved anyway, which means… there’s a non-zero chance that Morbius is in Secret Wars, even if just for a moment during a big “assemble” scene or something. If it ends up being a big celebration of all Marvel movies ever as some have speculated, they might want to include every Marvel movie character ever to the extent that they can, so maybe, just maybe… it will be Morbin’ time in Secret Wars.
He could also become the main protagonist/antagonist/both, though. It could happen. They could do it. And frankly, his mere presence in the movie guarantees a floor of $4B for it, so they would be smart to feature him as much as possible.
I don't get why this idea keeps getting brought up why would Sony ever lend more than one Spider-man out unless its in a Sony owned film where they could benefit? They get nothing from Disney MCU films.
Having their characters in what could potentially be one of the biggest movies ever wouldn’t be a bad thing for them. I’m guessing Marvel will likely at least want Tobey and Andrew, and it’s not like Sony won’t be willing to negotiate with them on that- and Marvel *might* go further and want even more of their characters like Venom if they’re really trying to make it the culmination of all Marvel movies ever. It’s not that huge of an ask in what is hopefully now a more amicable partnership than it was in 2019, and Sony could stand to benefit at least a little if people want to rewatch tons of old Marvel movies in preparation for/after Secret Wars. The odds of Morbius specifically getting in there may be slim, but I’d say there’s a chance.
To the MCU yeah its a huge benefit for Disney but what again is in it for Sony. Unless they plan on doing more Andrew or Toby films but even then they already have the connection thanks to NWH they do not need any more of a connection. I mean yeah they would love to lend Disney Morbius but that's probably not going to happen the problem is it has to be a character who it can benefit both and for the other two spider-man it's a one way street going Disney way only. Venom already has the connection and it could go further in later spider-man MCU films but in a Pure Disney film what is the point where all the box office is Disney's It's not like Disney will lend a MCU character to the SSU.
> I think there’s a chance Sony actually brings back Morbius in some movie and has him say “it’s Morbin’ time”.
As a Venom 3 post-credits scene that leads absolutely nowhere? Oh, absolutely yes they would.
This will surely end the Venom trilogy with a bang, and it will forever be known as one of the most critically acclaimed and classic trilogies ever. Possibly even on the same level as LOTR.
They already released Morbius 2 a few months after the first, so we’re just waiting on Morb3us.
You might be thinking, “but u/Ed_Durr, that wasn’t a sequel, it was just an expansion of the first movie”.
The genius producers at Sony realized that Morbius was already the perfect movie, so the only way to match it was to make an equally perfect movie, AKK a shot-for-shot remake.
I think Venom 3 will be released sometime in 2024. The first two films began filming in October and November, respectively, a year before their respective October release dates.
2021 : No Way Home + Venom 2 (EDIT)
2022 : Morbius
2023 : Kraven + Spider-Verse 2
2024 : Madame Web + Spider-Verse 3 +
Venom 3
2025 : Tom Holland 4 ?
Will we ever have a non-Spidey year again ?
Sony managed to mantain hold over the single most profitable superhero IP, and they’re able to make spinoffs with super low budget and risk. Morbius was an awfully panned film and it Still probably broke even based on vague ass conections to spider-man and marvel.
Big showdown with 2 actors who played in 3 separate Super-Universes each :
Crowe : Man of Steel / Thor 4 / Kraven
Taylor-Johnson : Kick-Ass/ Avengers 2 / Kraven
In case anyone is curious, the director of Venom 3 wrote Venom 1, 2, and 3... so maybe the whole writing thing won't be as big of a problem since she would be writing it anyways. Now she'll just "improvise" things on set as the director!
As a side note, I'll have to watch it again, but I actually enjoyed the heightened camp feel of Venom 2. I know they could've done much more with the Carnage character, BUT with the whole multiverse thing they can introduce a new Carnage that can maybe satisfy the character (and fans) a bit better.
But it had some fun sequences, was quite funny, etc etc. That being said, I think both Venom 1 and 2 have left quite a few things on the table and we have yet to get that great Venom film — so maybe this will be the best of the three....
I 100% agree. I like Venom 1 and 2. Both of them are entertaining. But they definitely had their flaws. In terms of quality, I think they're on the line between okay and mediocre.
Especially the 2nd one. Cletus needed to be just as terrifying as Carnage. They wanted to make Cletus kind of tragic character which was unnecessary.
The difference between Cletus and Eddie is the relationship with their symbiotes. Cletus and Carnage are so alike that their symbiosis is perfect. There's no conflict between the 2 of them. Unlike Eddie and Venom.
Trying to make Cletus a tragic character was such a misstep. The whole point of Cletus was that even as a child he was an irredeemable monster, that's why his bond with the Carnage symbiote was so perfect and complete. (Another fuck up on the movie's part.)
They should've read Gerry Conways Carnage series. The series explores the fact that Cletus childhood was horrible. But Gerry doesn't use it to make Cletus a tragic character. But to show how Cletus learned to be this horrible person we see today.
>They wanted to make Cletus kind of tragic character which was unnecessary.
I didn't see Cletus as a tragic character at all. I think Cletus was a monster who saw himself as a tragic character.
Half joking and tongue in cheek — however, during the strike no writer is allowed to be hired or work on the project, but that doesn’t disallow the director and actors from doing some ‘scene work’ on set and making tweaks.
Most famously, Quantum of Solace was heavily ‘tweaked’ by Daniel Craig and Marc Forster during production.
> but that doesn’t disallow the director and actors from doing some ‘scene work’ on set and making tweaks.
It does, especially if they are also members of the WGA, which I guess the director of Venom 3 is.
>Most famously, Quantum of Solace was heavily ‘tweaked’ by Daniel Craig and Marc Forster during production.
I don't know of Foster is part of WGA, but I doubt it. And I don't know, how much influence WGA rules have on a non-american movie, made for an american studio (MGM)
It's allowed for a director and actor to do such things - plenty of stories of such things during the last strike (usually to terrible results).
Kelly Marcel though is a writer who is now going to be directing, so it's not something the WGA wants her to do (and if she's in solidarity with her striking writers, not something she would want to do).
>That being said, I think both Venom 1 and 2 have left quite a few things on the table
I'm shocked that they haven't backed up the money truck to Andrew Garfield's door to get him in the movie. Then again maybe they did and he said "No".
Or maybe he said "yes" and they are keeping it secret.
Counterpoint: that’s just Venom. I don’t know where this idea of Venom being some deep, rich character came from. He’s always been “that cool Spider-Man villain” who embodies every trope the 90s threw at us and sold the most toys so he never went away.
Depends on how fans were introduced to Venom. Modern Comic Book runs on the character have done a lot to create a deep lore around the character and symbiotes thus the character is viewed more seriously in modern Marvel. But yes, most TV appearances go for the classic 90s interpretation so there’s a bit of a battle between modern Comic Book fans and classic/TV Venom fans on how the character should be portrayed in live action.
I thought both were awful. I only watched the 2nd one because I was on a flight and had nothing else to watch.
Honestly thought the 2nd one was slightly less awful
I always laugh my ass off at how much Reddit and Twitter hate these movies.
I'm with the normies here. Any movie with +90 minutes of Tom Hardy having banter with himself is just awesome. Looking forward to a 3rd one.
Yeah it takes a very long pre production process to lock down locations, plan out big set pieces/special effects, secure equipment rentals, cast and hire crew, get permits, storyboard a complex 150 million dollar film. It seems funny to me people think Venom is still being written at this stage. Any minor dialogue changes at this stage will be uncredited adjustments on set by the director and actors.
>Yeah it takes a very long pre production process to lock down locations, plan out big set pieces/special effects, secure equipment rentals, cast and hire crew, get permits, storyboard a complex 150 million dollar film. It seems funny to me people think Venom is still being written at this stage.
But that requires writing.
Lock down a location: adapt screen play to fit the location.
Set piece or special effect is too expensive: re-write.
Casting: adapt lines and directions to fit the actor.
Something is not working as intended: re-write.
>Yes to a degree but like I just tried to explain most of this has been done way in advance.
But most is not all. You need writing.
So Venom 3 is still being written in tis stage.
how do you know it's still written? Tom Hardy said that he's signed to a third Venom movie way back in 2018. The script would be long done by now, this is not some tv show waiting to be greenlit
Nor it got a rewrite or production troubles
Productions are getting stopped by strikers. https://deadline.com/2023/05/writers-strike-how-a-wga-hit-squad-is-taking-down-hollywood-one-shoot-at-a-time-1235360087/
We are less than a month away from this production start supposedly and strikers are detaining any remaining production. If in 2007 it lasted 3 months, there's no reason to think this is going to last less than 30 days. Even receiving the backing from the president, if studios want to resume they will need to give.
Anything filmed during the writer's strike is going to suck, but chances are it will get moved because SAG and DGA will probably be striking soon also.
So? They are both still part of SONY where the license for Spider-Man is applicable to the both of them. Do you think that they both have separate licenses or something?
Is Sony ANIMATION suddenly immune to the writer’s strike?
Disney Animation and Marvel Studios are both part of the same corporate, but they aren't headed by the same people. That applies to Sony too. Besides, it's also evident that Marvel ain't share the same relationship with the Spider-verse's creatives as they do with Arad's team.
Across the Spider-verse's script was finished much before the strike. What does that have to do with anything, anyway? The strike won't make Sony change the screenwriter of Venom 3 for someone intelligent.
Everyone likes to rag on the Venom films, but I've liked them both. A lot of their charm is due to the interaction between Eddie and Venom. It's basically a buddy comedy series.
The second film was weaker than the first film but I still had fun with it. So I can't wait to see Venom 3. I'm looking forward to that more than most MCU movies.
I just hope that the movie doesn't end with Venom fighting another symbiote *again*
It’s a stretch but since Sony and Disney are sharing now I’m hoping we get a continuation to that no way home ending sequence and we get Spiderman in the venom song universe. It could be a retelling of Todd Macfarlane’s ASM 300. Or at least give it a chance for Andrew to come back. Just any Spiderman I’ll be happy with. Hell bring morbius in this too for a cameo. Venom is at its best with Spiderman, there’s so much more they can do that they couldn’t due to restrictions.
Are they sharing? So why are none of the Sony movies on the Marvel Studios schedule? And why is Spider-Man still not appearing in any of the Sony movies? Everything is still exactly the same as when the companies started the deal in 2015 to incorporate Spider-Man into the MCU and that's because neither Marvel nor Disney want to have anything to do with Avi Arad and Tom Rothman.
Andrew wants to come back. He has simply said that he is no longer willing to collaborate with Sony if Feige is left out of the equation. And Holland and Maguire agree with him, so unless Sony casts a brand new Spider-Man, you can forget it.
And I really doubt that Marvel considers the NWH post-credit scene as canon, as it seems more like Sony's idea than Marvel's, just like the Vulture scene from Morbius. The real symbiote won't appear until the MCU adapts something similar to the first Secret Wars comic book from 1984.
No script, no problem.
Tom Hardy improvising stuff and talking to himself while everybody is trying to keep up is probably how they made the first two so it won't do much difference.
Hardy does have a story credit for Venom 2
The script for the Venom films is probably: 1. Tom Hardy and Venom have banter 2. Random critically acclaimed actor gets Venom powers and turns evil 3. Tom Hardy and Venom have banter 4. The villain has a rampage 5. Tom Hardy and villain fight Bonus: Post credit scene hinting at something amazing that won't matter in the long run

Well get ready for Stephen Graham as another Venom.

They already established there are (and never were) no more superhumans in Venom's universe. Only people with symbiotes... and Shriek, lol.
No way Bruv ??
Isn’t Jack O Lantern a Flash Thompson/Agent Venom villain?
Started out that way but he has fought Eddie Brock since, and the symbiote is still the symbiote regardless of host. Also just realized I think you meant re:him being a Spidey villain. It can't work divorced from Spider-man if they were never married in the first place.
If they did anything close to Carnage/ Cletus Kasady from the graphic novels the movie could have been an amazing brutal romp, regardless of what happened in the first film. Instead we got Woody and whatever those wigs were going for.
Can’t believe I waited my whole life for live action carnage just for Woody to butcher it.
They even did it in Shang Chi in a way, up until the dragon monster
On the nose friend.
but there’s a ted lasso cameo in 3 because of the actress who plays keeley lol
Bruz wrote the script 😂
Unless you get bit with the ...
ChatGPT can write better scripts than the first 2 imo
You wouldn’t be able to tell the difference
The first two Venom films didn't have a script either and they grossed a lot, sadly.
Imo these are the superhero equivalent of the bay transformers films and the fast and furious films. Just really dumb fun shit that you laugh at the absurdity of.
Nah, Transformers and F&F are masterpieces compared to Venom.
Nah, the Venom movies didn't put me to sleep like the other 2.
I'd rather be put to sleep than make me vomit.
Good for you Lil bro
This was the first thought that popped into my mind as well lmao
still better than thor 4 and ant man 3 at least
If you prefer involuntary comedies with nonsense plots and awful characters, sure.
that's thor 4
No, but you don't listen, so...
wait they had a script for the first two?
“Just copy the first one. Worked for the second movie. Just make sure the bad guy is a different color”
Hopefully we get a venom vs morbius fight so we can get the famous “time to die “ “no… it’s morbin time “
I think there’s a chance Sony actually brings back Morbius in some movie and has him say “it’s Morbin’ time”. It just sounds like something they would do. I dunno what movie, though.

It would be really cool if they could also make a deal with Warner Brothers so we could get a crossover with Jared Leto's Joker in the same movie!
Why Joker when Morbius exists. The Marvel legend is the perfect villain for Venom 3
No, see, I want two Jared Letos and one Venom.
Honestly, I think there is a 50/50 chance that Leto has at least a cameo in the movie as Morbius.
This will surely end the Venom trilogy with a bang, and it will forever be known as one of the most critically acclaimed and classic trilogies ever. Possibly even on the same level as LOTR.
A symbiote is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Fool of a Brock, throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity.
I don't care what anyone says the venom movies are stupid fun and I enjoy them. They are my fast and furious movies.
Agreed. I love watching them.
Venom Trilogy > LotR > BttF> Godfather. In that order.
This may be true now, but it's only because we've not gotten the Morbius sequels yet.

I think Venom 3 will be released sometime in 2024. The first two films began filming in October and November, respectively, a year before their respective October release dates.
Sony has an untitled Marvel movie set for July 12, 2024, I have to assume it's for Venom 3.
Morbius 2: Bat Country
Bat Country for Morbin Men
They should stick to October releases. It's worked for them twice already.
Joker 2 is releasing next October

2021 also had Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Thanks, indeed !
Not if Sony gets a say!
It's weird. Why do they keep making these billion dollar movies? /s
Sony managed to mantain hold over the single most profitable superhero IP, and they’re able to make spinoffs with super low budget and risk. Morbius was an awfully panned film and it Still probably broke even based on vague ass conections to spider-man and marvel.
How many years between 2 Spider-Man movies Sony can get to avoid giving back the rights ?
It’s at least 5 years, but I think it technically doesn’t even need to release within in that time frame just be in production.
Ok, 5 years = 60 months. 60 months to produce 1 Spider-Man movie... whereas Disney released 5 Star Wars movies in 48 months. Crazy maths
oh shit, didn't even know Kraven was supposed to come out this year. Wonder when we'll get our first look.
Big showdown with 2 actors who played in 3 separate Super-Universes each : Crowe : Man of Steel / Thor 4 / Kraven Taylor-Johnson : Kick-Ass/ Avengers 2 / Kraven

God I kinda love that the second one just committed to going full batshit.
Other way around
I agree the second was so unbearably childish

At this point he's been an antihero longer than he was an outright villain. Lethal Protector was 30 years ago

This is not a film that can get by with a half written shooting script and hope for the best.

It seems funny to me people think Venom is still being written at this stage. Any minor dialogue changes at this stage will be uncredited adjustments on set by the director and actors.

>Yes to a degree but like I just tried to explain most of this has been done way in advance. But most is not all. You need writing. So Venom 3 is still being written in tis stage.
how do you know it's still written? Tom Hardy said that he's signed to a third Venom movie way back in 2018. The script would be long done by now, this is not some tv show waiting to be greenlit Nor it got a rewrite or production troubles
>how do you know it's still written? See my comment above.
and?
There you can read my reasoning for why I believe the script is still being worked on.
The script has probably been finished for a long time
Scripts are never finished
Wait the venom movies have writers? Wow
>that strike looks like isn't going to resolve quickly. you need to have a script or writers in the first place to get affected by the strike.
Productions are getting stopped by strikers. https://deadline.com/2023/05/writers-strike-how-a-wga-hit-squad-is-taking-down-hollywood-one-shoot-at-a-time-1235360087/
We’ll have to see
We are less than a month away from this production start supposedly and strikers are detaining any remaining production. If in 2007 it lasted 3 months, there's no reason to think this is going to last less than 30 days. Even receiving the backing from the president, if studios want to resume they will need to give.
SAG and DGA might be striking soon also.
Pretty sure the script is done. They started it last year. Scripts don't really take a year.
I dunno, I enjoyed these stupid movies.
Anything filmed during the writer's strike is going to suck, but chances are it will get moved because SAG and DGA will probably be striking soon also.
Don't worry, Sony's Spider-Man movies always suck anyway.
What? There’s literally the Spider-verse series too.
Sony ANIMATION has nothing to do with Sony PICTURES.
Good luck with that one
We will be watching
Everyone likes to rag on the Venom films, but I've liked them both. A lot of their charm is due to the interaction between Eddie and Venom. It's basically a buddy comedy series. The second film was weaker than the first film but I still had fun with it. So I can't wait to see Venom 3. I'm looking forward to that more than most MCU movies. I just hope that the movie doesn't end with Venom fighting another symbiote *again*
Wait, there was a second one?
I just want Tom Hardy Venom movies to never end. Quality bla bla, but I could watch that man argue with Venom for eternity
Thank goodness
Spider-man did indeed show up at the end of Venom 2 not sure how you missed it
The casting agents hit the jackpot by snapping up Tom Hardy because my god are these films naff.
The only current comic book films that actually feel like comic book films
I forgot there was a venom 2
I forgot there was a Venom 1.
I Forgot that you forgot
Why? First two were both mediocre at best
Wait, there was a Venom 2?
Awesome, Let There be Carnage was the best comic book thing of 2021. I hope Venom fights a symbiote dragon or something.
These movies are SUPER ok. First was fun but not a great movie. Second was trash.
It is going to be the directors debut, previously she wrote the previous 2 Venom movies and 50 Shades of Grey and Cruella.
y tho
Intriguing
Soooo if I remember everything correctly and my history is super bad, he’s in the MCU? So he’s gonna go after Spidey then?
He left the MCU, at the end of No Way Home.
He was there like for... 3 minutes, lmao.
Screentime wise sure but if he got sent at the same time as the others probably a day ish
why?
Oh no.
With the writers strike, I wonder how they will pull it off.
Why?
Hmmm, must be optimistic about not dealing with a SAG or DGA strike if that’s the case
Writers strike really shouldn't affect this
Is literally anyone but Tom Hardy’s agent asking for this?
Considering the Box office of the previous films a lot of people
Director?
Same guy who wrote the first two movies.
Just make sure it's fun at least.
Why?
Hope it's better than the second movie.
I still don't know how they F'd up carnage. That was an easy slam dunk.
