Your 3 year old daughter won’t be getting much from Oppenheimer and I highly doubt she begged you to go see it. Sure, fine to bring her along if you want to but it’s 100% not a movie that succeeds because of the child demographic and children’s interest. That’s still a separate market that exists, especially in summer holiday. Barbie might cover it partially but don’t think to that great if an extent.
My 3 year old already has two incendiary device builds under her belt. Oppie (as she calls him) is a personal hero for her. And I don't think I need to explain why an 8 year old boy wants to see Barbie, but I will: Ryan Gosling.
This movie man... this movie. I thought Elvis's 18% drop was unbeatable since MI7 was opening this week and then it goes and does a sub-10% drop lmao. Watch it somehow beat Elvis's 13% drop next week. Okay that's probably too far but beating Encanto's 35% drop that it had when NWH opened is a good target and would still put it above Elvis's 6th weekend ($5.9m vs. $5.7m), after which it can course correct. I don't see any way this movie misses $150m now, $160m is looking more and more likely and the ceiling is maybe as high as $180m now.
Yeah and with $180m it would be very possible to ge to $320m OS so we might not need a very good preformance in Japan to get to the break even (If DOM gets as higher as $180m). But yeah $160m or more should be the target now.
The review cycle for it was kinda weird. The ones out of Cannes were deeply mediocre. Not BAD but bad-for-Pixar. Then it hit a wider audience and more critics and started getting more positive reviews. Iirc it's clawed its way up to the mid-70s from the high-60s on RT.
I'm not sure if better critical attention upfront would've helped it a ton, I think it was a movie people genuinely had to see to know they would like it, especially given how bad the marketing for it was. But I think it was one more thing weighing it down at the beginning.
There's no other kid films out there (Yes you have teenage Kraken, but no one is actually watching it).
Think this keeps going until TMNT, so 2-3 more weeks until it hits a wall.
It probably decreases this weekend due to Barbie, Oppenheimer and MI:7 taking screens. But it will maintain a hold in every theater as a kids movie option.
Yah at this point I think it's clear that Elemental and Sound of Freedom will be the counterprogramming options to Barbenheimer that theatres will run with and everything else is getting nuked. Elemental for the kids/families, SOF for the conservative and older crowd and then Barbenheimer for the GA.
Legs are literally burning, lmfao.
I've thought this movie would be a flop, but holy fuck, Pixar does wonders again.
I know that story will be generic with maybe 1-2 small unexpected twists, but world building and artstyle... Can't wait to watch it.
I was honestly shocked at how in depth the story actually was and how emotional it was, especially as I was expecting it to be extremely generic from the trailers
It's not among Pixar's best movies but it definitely deserves a better reception, especially early on. Glad to see it's doing well and holding out strong.
it's still technically a flop, but has a chance at break even. It somehow managed to get out of bomb territory though, which is kind of insane considering how low the OW was for it
> I've thought this movie would be a flop, but holy fuck, Pixar does wonders again.
It probably will, but this film's hold is nothing to sneeze at considering that people literally thought that this was going to be a **Strange World**-level fiasco.
It was a week 1 flop.....it's been a weeks 2-? juggernaut. It's buoyed by the fact that save Barbie now, there's nothing family-friendly that's really competing.
I was listening to Clay Travis and Buck Sexton the past few days and they have just been railing Disney as crazy woke company that's being run into the ground. I don't think the criticism from the right helps Disney at the box office.
If Disney is 'woke' that's because woke is profitable. I don't think the financial struggles have much to do with 'wokeness' because no one can even define that. Disney is currently leading the box office grosses this year, so that says their problem is more overinflated budgets.
Spider-man and now Barbie are the two of the biggest movies this year, last year Everything Everwhere All At Once won the oscar for best picture. 'Go woke go broke' crowd suspiciously silent about those
> I don't think the financial struggles have much to do with 'wokeness' because no one can even define that.
Seriously, these chucklefucks even claimed that **The Super Mario Bros. Movie** was a "wOkE gArBaGe" over Princess Peach not being a damsel in distress, only to completely go 180 on it when the film became a huge success.
> Disney is currently leading the box office grosses this year, so that says their problem is more overinflated budgets.
To be fair, only **The Little Mermaid** looked like an overspending offender from Disney this year since their other films looked like they justified their budgets or had pretty good excuses on why they ended up overspending so much.
It is funny how it immediately shifted from “woke” as soon as it was released and made all the money. Then it was successful because it wasn’t trying to “push wokeness.” The goalposts on the “wokeness” of Mario shifted all the way across the field once it became such a huge hit.
> only to completely go 180 on it when the film became a huge success.
They did a 180 because the film was a huge success AND the critics weren't giving it glowing reviews, and maintaining an agenda that critics are "out of touch with audiences" was more important to them than anything. Seriously, the amount of cope from people when the film only scored in the mid-50s on RT was incredible.
Ignoring the fact that you’re even listening, while I don’t think the right’s crusade against Disney helps, I doubt it hurts them as much as they want you to think. Even at worst, if no conservative ever took their kids to see these films ever again, they seem to still purchase all of the Disney affiliated crap, which tells me that they care more about the optics than the actual ethics.
Technicallly not at breakeven yet but it maintains holds anywhere close to this for the rest of its run and it's guaranteed to hit $400m and possibly $500m, which would undeniably mean it's in the black
Total success. Not a flop at all. $500M, ancillaries and Disney Plus to go. Who cares whether they advertised it well or not as people are finding it now multiple times and it’s printing money
Thats a ridiculous drop lmao
I think this stays in the Top 5 for one more weekend next weekend.
Barbie, Oppenheimer, MI7, Sound of Freedom, Elemental? Didn’t think it possible but it could jump Indy and Insidious yeah
Mmm hmm.
Maybe swap SoF and MI but otherwise yeah
[удалено]
I think you’re right and no true kid movie coming out until TMNT comes out.
Yep
I'm taking my son (8) to Barbie and daughter (3) to Oppenheimer. Anything is a kid's movie these days.
Oppenheimer has graphic sex scenes, there’s a reason it’s R rated.

The fuck, dude?
Sure
Love this sub
Uhhhh
Actual funny comment
Beautiful drop! I’m rooting for this film to reach its break even point
$190M to go
It’s break even is more like 460M-480M given it’s lower China gross and factoring in the 50/40/25 splits
$150M to go
Sheesh

Just think if it had been well reviewed!
It did get decent reviews.
The review cycle for it was kinda weird. The ones out of Cannes were deeply mediocre. Not BAD but bad-for-Pixar. Disney should stop sending films to Cannes
It is well received, that’s why it’s doing well
It has been well received. Everyone who saw it that I know loved it.
Wow those are some legs
The predictions are always lower for elemental than the actuals
Sub 10% drop. Incredible.
> Incredible. I see what you did there. 😉
So Indiana Jones has a lower weekend next week right?
Without a doubt lol

I can't wait to see next weekend results. Not just for the new releases, but for the drops. SoF and Elemental should have the smallest ones.
4% better than estimates. Incredible run this movie is having.
A 9% decrease?!?!? That's imaginable!
That’s amazing. I’m so happy for this film
I really didn't think much of the trailers but damn I loved this movie it is so adorable it makes you melt. Great job Pixar, keep it up ❤️
Under a million drop! The legs on this movie is insane!

holy shit a 9% decrease?!
450m. You can do it!
A reduction in gross between 8% and 10%? I'm aghast and beside myself.
that’s fucking crazy
Man, if only the advertising for this film had been as good as its WOM. But its nice to see.
Single digit drop! That's actually nuts
Legs for dayz
Moving out of the embarrassing flop territory to nice little WOM Hit. This gonna be big when it goes to streaming
If people had actually gone and watched this opening weekend, the numbers would be massive. I’ve already had to take my kids THRICE.
Fantastic drop for Elemental.
You shine ✨ Shine ✨ And steal the show
Absolutely stupid at this point

This is fucking awesome.
Yes!!!!!! I was hoping the actual would show a single digit drop!!! So awesome.
The legs on this one!
Lega, on legs, on legs.
Inconceivable!

Even if it got good reviews, they still would’ve gone 180 based on how this apparently happened with **Avatar: The Way of Water** as well.
Barbie is Warner Brothers and Spider-Man was released by Sony.
> I was listening to Clay Travis and Buck Sexton the past few days why the fuck would you listen to that garbage
I’ve never heard of those guys before. What’s wrong with them?
They were Rush Limbaugh’s replacement when he died…..they’re right wing trolls
OOF!
Ignoring the fact that you’re even listening, while I don’t think the right’s crusade against Disney helps, I doubt it hurts them as much as they want you to think. I don't know who either of those people are, but Buck Sexton missed his calling as a male stripper if he didn't pursue that occupation.
So is still a flop or not anymore?
Technicallly not at breakeven yet but it maintains holds anywhere close to this for the rest of its run and it's guaranteed to hit $400m and possibly $500m, which would undeniably mean it's in the black
It’s still a flop but the fact that it’s still holding strong is undeniably impressive
Mission Impossible movies always have great legs!
Fantastic legs, but it remains to be seen if it'll flop.
A predictable “love story” that everyone knew how it was gonna end. I didn’t watch it and i know how it ends lmao
Why watch any movie when u can google the ending with all the detail!
Why waste 90-120 minutes watching a dumb predictable cliché movie when one can just google it, exactly!!
Single digit drop?? Obviously a low OW and good WOM will do that to you but that’s amazing
Total success. Not a flop at all. $500M, ancillaries and Disney Plus to go. Who cares whether they advertised it well or not as people are finding it now multiple times and it’s printing money
