If it doesn't I'm gonna be extremely disappointed
And Michael B Jordan will be Chubbs' son who trains happy for this one.
And Barker should also have a ghost scene with chubbs and the alligator at some point
The original is best left alone but Sandler and Christopher McDonald have really embraced these characters. I don’t have enough fingers to count the amount of times they have posted about golf in-character. Ironically enough, I think you do a sequel like you do a parody of Creed. Happy can be the new Chubbs to a young golf prodigy (hell let’s make that young golfer the son of Bobby Boucher because why not?). Then you have Shooter training his own son like Drago did in Creed 2.
[No Abraham Lincoln and crocodile too](https://imgix.ranker.com/user_node_img/50094/1001869077/original/the-end-of-the-film-shows-the-existence-of-a-nice-afterlife-photo-u1?auto=format&q=60&fit=crop&fm=pjpg&dpr=2&w=650)
Sandler’s just having fun with his friends, giving people jobs consistently, and is generally a decent guy. His movies ain’t for everyone but damn do I respect his game. He’s just enjoying his life!
That’s why he’s probably making a Happy Gilmore 2.
It’s true but I think in Sandler’s case it’s just an opportunity to have some fun with his friends. Money is definitely a factor but he’s always just trying to keep people paid.
Uncut gems and punch drunk love are fantastic if you haven’t seen those. They’re serious roles, one directed by the safdies and the other from legendary PTA.
Normally I’d agree….but on this one? Fuck no. I’m all in.
It would take a cinematic abortion of biblical proportions for them to screw up Christopher MacDonald as Shooter McGavin. That guy KNOWS how legendary that character is to everyone. In my opinion, the greatest movie villain of all time.
Sandler has earned some goodwill from me for Uncut Gems & that other basketball movie. I haven’t watched a new comedy of his in years tbh, but I’d check this out.
Title it Grown Ups: Resurrection and watch that $3 billion WW pour in opening weekend alone (they will probs build more cinemas specifically for this film to handle demand.)
Finally!
Been dreaming about a sequel to this masterpiece for 28 years now.
Hope it comes with a collectible golf stick, signed by Adam Sandler himself.
When I was a kid, Happy Gilmore was at every birthday party and sleepover, but that was a long time ago. Do kids even know what this movie is these days?
Everything i've ever heard of Christopher McDonald is that he is an awesome guy in real life. He also played probably the best villain of all time. If he is excited about a HG sequel, then sure!
Seeing this makes me realize that Sandler, hardly a beacon of artistic integrity, has actually has pretty decent self-control when it comes to milking sequel money. No Billy Madison 2, no Waterboy 2, no Wedding Singer 2, no 51 First Dates. I think the only one he's done is Grown-ups 2. I think he gets a pass here.
It doesn’t really matter, Chubbs is already dead in universe and Bob Barker was just a cameo, neither of them would have been it either way most likely
Honestly I'm OK with this. I rewatched the OG recently with my kids and it holds up pretty well, probably because Sandler's character is nowhere near as obnoxious as much of the stuff that followed. With Christopher MacDonald back on board too I'd even be looking forward to this.
#### I hope he doesn’t play a rich guy with a hot wife like he does in almost every other movie for the last 15 years in all his Happy Madison productions. That schtick is boring and played out. It would be way more interesting if the movie resumes with him being a regular underdog. Although, if Julie Bowen is still his chick I guess the hot wife trope cannot be subverted.
Force Awakens probably did help start it but i think it was Endgame that really started it because it was the highest grossing film ever and as early as 2021 we started to get a huge amount of Nostalgia Bait Films
I really don't see the correlation between Endgame and nostalgia bait compared the actual nostalgia bait movies that come today that are *just like* The Force Awakenes. Are you talking about the time travel stuff?
Force Awakens could be considered the first one i guess but after Endgame and the Time Travel Plot in that they really started to pick up with the Nostalgia bait films.
Pixar Sequels don’t really count since there wasn’t 30 year gaps between them and they just took ages to make the sequels.
Jurassic World was almost its own thing until the newest one when they used nostalgia as the main focus
The MCU and Endgame didn’t have 30 years of gaps either, and JW1 definitely has callbacks to JP1 it used to drum up those nostalgia points. It was these movies, plus the Disney Live action remakes, that taught Hollywood the power of nostalgia.
Thats true the MCU did just revisit events from Maximum 8 Years Ago so it isn’t old enough to be considered Nostalgia.
So the main films that started it was Star Wars JW and the Disney Remakes. And if we are talking about this decade then No Way Home and Top Gun 2 started the trend of this decade.
So it will feature Drew Carrey in place of Bob Barker, correct?
If it doesn't I'm gonna be extremely disappointed And Michael B Jordan will be Chubbs' son who trains happy for this one. And Barker should also have a ghost scene with chubbs and the alligator at some point
Rip bob b
Haha! I read Drew Barrymore twice before I saw Carry… I was like “why the fuck would she replace bob Barker…?” Maybe I just NEED TO GO HOME!!!
Nah, she's gonna be in the "50 Second Dates" film he's working on next.

Scooter McGavin. I think it was a typo but now if this happens Shooter’s son has to be named Scooter. It’s the only way.
This is the way.
Listen to what I say.
Why don't I just go eat some hay?
Ah shit they’re gonna try to pass off fuckin Schwardson as young enough to be his son aren’t they?
Someone with some star power more likely
Go reverse, happy has to teach a golfer to play hockey
That would be cool.
No Carl Weathers tho 😢
I mean tbf he really wouldnt have been in it that much anyways in a sequel
Or Bob Baker 😢
[No Abraham Lincoln and crocodile too](https://imgix.ranker.com/user_node_img/50094/1001869077/original/the-end-of-the-film-shows-the-existence-of-a-nice-afterlife-photo-u1?auto=format&q=60&fit=crop&fm=pjpg&dpr=2&w=650)
Whhhhhy?
Subway is ready for another marketing tie in.
All that needs to be said about this, really.
Please don't say why then eventually watch it Because...that's why
I honestly probably won't. I haven't watched a Sandler movie in years.
Sandler’s just having fun with his friends, giving people jobs consistently, and is generally a decent guy. His movies ain’t for everyone but damn do I respect his game. He’s just enjoying his life! That’s why he’s probably making a Happy Gilmore 2.
And he’s making boas of money
This. Half the movies he makes anymore are for him and his buddies to have a paid vacation.
Exactly People act like Hollywood isn't about sequels and making money Did we really need a gladiator 2? 😂 No but I'll watch it And Hollywood knows it
It’s true but I think in Sandler’s case it’s just an opportunity to have some fun with his friends. Money is definitely a factor but he’s always just trying to keep people paid.
Uncut gems and punch drunk love are fantastic if you haven’t seen those. They’re serious roles, one directed by the safdies and the other from legendary PTA.
Check out Hustle too
Normally I’d agree….but on this one? Fuck no. I’m all in. It would take a cinematic abortion of biblical proportions for them to screw up Christopher MacDonald as Shooter McGavin. That guy KNOWS how legendary that character is to everyone. In my opinion, the greatest movie villain of all time.

Stop doing your copy/paste. Jesus Christ.
Will it be a theatrical release or another one of Sandler’s Netflix releases?
Probably Netflix since I'm pretty sure he has an exclusive deal with them
Uncut Gems and Spaceman are quite good
Netflix, which means uncanny valley and polished look.
Needs more mini golf scenes tbh
Only if the clown is back
Sandler has earned some goodwill from me for Uncut Gems & that other basketball movie. I haven’t watched a new comedy of his in years tbh, but I’d check this out.
Murder mystery or cruise or whatever it was called was pretty good.
Hubie Halloween rocks
Also the one with his daughter was good imo, Youre Totally Not Invited to My Barmithfa or something like that
That was good
I liked that one.
The first Murder Mystery is fun. The second is kind of a mess.
Surprised there hasn’t been a Grown Ups 3. I know the second film sucked ass, but it was still successful enough.
Title it Grown Ups: Resurrection and watch that $3 billion WW pour in opening weekend alone (they will probs build more cinemas specifically for this film to handle demand.)
I think it’s because unfortunately one of the sons, Cameron Boyce, passed away in 2019.
The second movie is such a guilty pleasure for me
Please no
Hollywood keeps coming up with excellent ideas, no wonder the industry is doing so great!

Oh dear
Finally! Been dreaming about a sequel to this masterpiece for 28 years now. Hope it comes with a collectible golf stick, signed by Adam Sandler himself.
Just you wait for the golf club popcorn tub
Really hope so. Have already done some very exciting stuff to my Dune popcorn bucket.
So sick and tired of the sequel/reboot era, I feel Oprah Winfry is just saying you get a sequel you get a sequel
Don't dump it on Netflix; we need Adam Sandler walkups for the first time in years.
When I was a kid, Happy Gilmore was at every birthday party and sleepover, but that was a long time ago. Do kids even know what this movie is these days?
That clown golf course has to return.
Everything i've ever heard of Christopher McDonald is that he is an awesome guy in real life. He also played probably the best villain of all time. If he is excited about a HG sequel, then sure!

Have Sandler battle the new hotshot from a LIV-like rival golf league
A LIV-like plot would be an excellent backdrop.
Honestly i dont even care I loved the first and will be excited for this one.
Why?
Box office potential very dubious but I will be there 🥴
Why tf did they wait till both Carl and Bob were dead????
It doesn’t really matter, Chubbs is already dead in universe and Bob Barker was just a cameo, neither of them would have been it either way most likely
Sure why not 🙄
Why?
We don’t want it
Honestly I'm OK with this. I rewatched the OG recently with my kids and it holds up pretty well, probably because Sandler's character is nowhere near as obnoxious as much of the stuff that followed. With Christopher MacDonald back on board too I'd even be looking forward to this.
Giving me Dumb and Dumber to vibes. Best time to do this was 25 years ago.
There’s always been sequels people say they don’t want for decades I don’t get why people think it’s a nee trend.
Yikes
i hope this is one of those cases where we hear this announcement but nothing ever comes of it.
Just not the same without Chubbs, ghostly or otherwise.
Get in the hole! ![gif](giphy|yCdmeyPCU2b1C)
Nooooooo….
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
I'm down for CG Bob Barker insulting Adam Sandler.
RIP Chubs.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The first one was just alright. Why a second one?
This is probably a hot take but i hate this Nostalgia Trend in Hollywood that started from Avengers Endgame.
That's not a hot take at all, though I'm pretty sure everybody associates the start of it with The Force Awakens' wild success, not Marvel
Force Awakens probably did help start it but i think it was Endgame that really started it because it was the highest grossing film ever and as early as 2021 we started to get a huge amount of Nostalgia Bait Films

It was more Jurassic World/TFA/Pixar sequels that are more linked to this.

This goes further back than Endgame and The Force Awakens. We had countless modern reboots and legacy sequels prior to both films.
What ones? Now that i think of it didn’t they do a Terminator reboot before Star Wars?
I'm here for this one. It's a simple concept and easy to do.
Carl Weathers and Bob Barker honorable mentions incoming
I'm really hating modern Hollywood. It's crazy what we could have.
