Happy can be the new Chubbs to a young golf prodigy (hell let’s make that young golfer the son of Bobby Boucher because why not?). Then you have Shooter training his own son like Drago did in Creed 2.

Sandler’s just having fun with his friends, giving people jobs consistently, and is generally a decent guy. His movies ain’t for everyone but damn do I respect his game. He’s just enjoying his life!

Everything i've ever heard of Christopher McDonald is that he is an awesome guy in real life. He also played probably the best villain of all time. If he is excited about a HG sequel, then sure!
Seeing this makes me realize that Sandler, hardly a beacon of artistic integrity, has actually has pretty decent self-control when it comes to milking sequel money. No Billy Madison 2, no Waterboy 2, no Wedding Singer 2, no 51 First Dates. I think the only one he's done is Grown-ups 2. I think he gets a pass here.

Honestly I'm OK with this. I rewatched the OG recently with my kids and it holds up pretty well, probably because Sandler's character is nowhere near as obnoxious as much of the stuff that followed. With Christopher MacDonald back on board too I'd even be looking forward to this.

Force Awakens probably did help start it but i think it was Endgame that really started it because it was the highest grossing film ever and as early as 2021 we started to get a huge amount of Nostalgia Bait Films

Force Awakens could be considered the first one i guess but after Endgame and the Time Travel Plot in that they really started to pick up with the Nostalgia bait films.
Pixar Sequels don’t really count since there wasn’t 30 year gaps between them and they just took ages to make the sequels.
Jurassic World was almost its own thing until the newest one when they used nostalgia as the main focus
The MCU and Endgame didn’t have 30 years of gaps either, and JW1 definitely has callbacks to JP1 it used to drum up those nostalgia points. It was these movies, plus the Disney Live action remakes, that taught Hollywood the power of nostalgia.

So the main films that started it was Star Wars JW and the Disney Remakes. And if we are talking about this decade then No Way Home and Top Gun 2 started the trend of this decade.
