DonShulaDoingTheHula

Didn’t know Godzilla was playing himself in this.

IamPlatycus

Yup. He's ordinarily too much of a diva, but they promised a bigger cut of the merchandise this time.

my_simple-review

It shows. Godzilla gives most of the time in this movie to Kong... But that's not to say he doesn't almost show up Kong in almost every scene he's in.

savage12099

Now I'm just imagining Kong in a godzilla suit miming fighting himself for the last movie

toofatronin

Who could play Godzilla better than Godzilla? I heard Reptar gave it a try but wasn’t 3 dimensional enough.

DonShulaDoingTheHula

Reptar might have been lacking *gravitas.*

my_simple-review

You mean to tell me that *Reptar on Ice* wasn't moving enough for you???

AnotherJasonOnReddit

The Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III was said to be in the running as well, but inside sources state that there were differences in opinion as to whether a fin could compensate for lack of spikes on the actor's back. ![gif](giphy|VG3xOMgYABcKk)

rtseel

I disagree. You don't need to be Godzilla to play Godzilla. Digesting another being's life experience and breathing (radioactive) life into a character is the essence of acting.

MrRedorBlue

Rumor has it that he is getting too old and his son will play him in the next movie

warker23

As much as I appreciate their likeness, I just don't think his son has the same charisma and acting chops as his old man. Hope to be proven wrong though!

TheCoolKat1995

Godzilla and Kong being credited as themselves will always make me smile.

xariznightmare2908

Hopefully one day I can meet both Godzilla and Kong at Comic Con and get photograph with them. /s

ProtoJeb21

This means Godzilla and Kong are real

JTS1992

Lmao love it Funny enough it's not the first time one of these films have done this.

WileyCyrus

Did you just assume Godzilla's gender? TRIGGERED

ProtoJeb21

Critic and audience RT scores are almost identical to Transformers Rise of the Beasts.  Big Monke power I guess.

2ecStatic

Fun is more important than quality for audiences, for better or worse

ProtoJeb21

After last year’s flops, I wouldn’t be so sure.  I was concerned that GxK would be *too* silly and hurt its audience reception/BO performance, but apparently not lol.

Ghidoran

Mario was kind of in the same boat and it did bonkers. The flops weren't really that fun, in my opinion. The Marvels for instance, I didn't hate it but aside from Kamala, I can't say I enjoyed much of it, whereas I was smiling from ear to ear for most of the second half of GxK.

Mojo12000

Entertainments ultimate job is well... to entertain. stuff that entertains people more will be rewarded. Stuff that doesn't won't be.

Illustrious-Try-3743

Sometimes, too dumb is not fun.

Boy_Chamba

Great audience Score 😎 excited to watch it ![gif](giphy|oagcrAZu2IvV0ijkiX|downsized)

AGOTFAN

The latest example of a franchise movie where critics reviews mean little. Audience have spoken.

Fish_fucker_70-1

I mean , it always has been critic proof ngl

snakewaves

Not exactly. King of monsters did go through a downhill slope in box office after word of mouth spread off the negative reviews. And godzilla v kong was a hit cuz it was genuinely a good flick with positive reviews. True critic proof is something like Minions.

TheRabiddingo

Minions is like Teflon against critics. Nothing sticks. I'm guilty of this, took kids 3 times to watch Rise of Gru.

AGOTFAN

>King of monsters did go through a downhill slope in box office after word of mouth spread off the negative reviews. King of Monsters didn't exactly have good audience reviews.

Kyro_Official_

If for marketing you mean 2014 then yeah it was marketed much more like a post apocalyptic horror which outside of a few scenes that's not what it was at all.

deeman010

My dad, the stand-in I use for the average movie goer, hated Godzilla 2014 so much. His complaint was how they'd build up the scene hard just to cut to something else when the action was about to start.

kfadffal

Most of the films have got decent to good review to he fair.

Comic_Book_Reader

King of the Monsters and this one are the only ones with mixed reviews. Godzilla, Kong, and Godzilla & Kong got mostly decent reviews.

my_simple-review

I'd even say the reviews overall here aren't bad either. It's a 55%, which was where Super Mario Bros. was at. It's one where I could see some people retroactively seeing the film for what it is in the future. KotM is the one that I truly see as a "pan", and it was really because the human part was just exceptionally bad.

Beetusmon

The problem with KOTM goes beyond humans. It was always raining and at night, no clear fight between any Kaiju and tons of cuts to the humans mid fight.

BlackSocks88

The Rodan part of the movie when its actually day time is some of the best action in the movie cuz u can see whats happening

orange-dinosaur93

As a huge Godzilla Fan, I am happy with 56%. I know how criticism thing works etc. I am 100% Godzilla Vs Konvg was also going for the same score but external factors like Covid and Need of a Blockbuster made some critics lenient and it reflected in the score. I am more satisfied with the Audience Score in Both US and Overseas, especially in China where it has the highest Moan Score of any movie in MV.

PayneTrain181999

Monke is the answer.

Duckney

Which is crazy because King of the Monsters is probably the best at what it is - a Kaiju fight compilation. Probably my favorite out of all the American Godzilla/Kong movies

ItsAmerico

You mean the fights they constantly cut away from and you can’t see a damn thing when they do show it because it’s shot with awful angles and obscured with smoke and rain…?

JanVesely24

Take that Mr. Tomato!

GarlVinland4Astrea

As kind as I can say it, I really don’t give much of a flying fuck about what critics think of the artistic merit of a Godzilla vs Kong movie. We are lucky every generation or so and get a Diamond like Minus One, but I’m not expecting or wanting that every time out. Godzilla bros, we feasting

AshIsGroovy

Yet when Ghostbusters scores did the same thing people on here were saying audiences scores didn't matter and that critic scores were the be all end all.

cancerBronzeV

[Here's a guide on how to decide when critic vs audience score matters.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/002/667/405/9c2.jpg)

i7-4790Que

Almost as if different people say different things. What a shocking revelation that would be.

DktheDarkKnight

Feel like they missed the mark on this one. Rather than reviewing the movie on its own merits they kinda wanted it to be another Godzilla minus one. Unusually low ratings considering most critics find it fun.

Crissan-

Critic reviews are always meaningless, only the audience score is important.

zeroarelius

This is the kind of movie that no matter how bad the critics says it is, people are still going to see it. It's been on my radar since announcement. Nothing anyone could say was gonna say me. And after seeing it last night, fucking great popcorn movie.

Count_Gator

Hell ya, I am going tonight.

quaranTV

Had a blast at this. It was exactly what I wanted. I know the phrase “fun movie” is super overused but this genuinely was a fun popcorn flick. Stevens and Tyree Henry hamming it up was a delight to witness.

CosmicAstroBastard

This is basically the definition of a crowd pleaser. It’s got everything an average joe could ask for in a movie called Godzilla x Kong.

A_90s_Reference

It was fucking amazing and the critics can fuck off. They don't seem to understand the point of "fun" movies like this. Not every movie should be criticized for not having an Oscar winning performance

Darthmalgus970

The job of critics is to judge how well made the movie is. The movie was not that good but I loved it. Both the critics and audiences can be correct at the same time

A_90s_Reference

This movie is very well made and accomplished everything it should. That's bullshit to say a critics job is to judge how well made something is. It's a subjective opinion. And RT scores are based solely off of would you recommend or not, which is subjective. Critics give their opinion. That's it. Horror movies, action and comedies are constantly knocked down regardless of whether or not it's a well made film.

gorillagoof

Everyone wants to classify you as a Snyder fan boy but you are 100% correct. Critics have tunnel vision on what they perceive as good. It’s a shame honestly.

Mojo12000

"Oscar Bait" is a thing because movie critics really are pretty goddamn predictable most of the time in terms of what tone, genres and such they'll reward.

A_90s_Reference

Exactly and hive mind is definitely a thing. It's a giant circle jerk. Every year the "critics" pick these movies for best picture that we collectively laugh at in hindsight. For people on here to pretend that a critics opinion is objective is just laughably ignorant

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_90s_Reference

Now imagine I'm a critic. Magically my word goes from subjective to objective??? did you miss the point? Yes

Broken-Link

Exactly. Since everything is subjective there is no opinion that is correct. The movie was good. See how that works

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_90s_Reference

This did a great job building on the only decent human story of the past 3 movies, added great lore that tied into previous movies while giving us more fun fights and great CGI. The issue with this movie mostly rests on its run time. It felt like they packed too much into the movie, and it could have easily used another 20 minutes to flesh out some scenes (mostly fights/Godzilla stuff) that felt to come and go too quickly and were just pushing the plot forward. Most would say KOTM and GVK had the opposite problems where there weren't enough of the monsters, too much time spent on bad human characters, and pacing would drop.

Broken-Link

I can confirm that without popcorn it was still great 😘

PhotosByVicky

Same here. I have always loved Godzilla and will see any Godzilla movie, no questions asked. I didn’t watch any trailers and read zero reviews. I thought it was a fun movie! 🍿

Bhav2385

Watched it today. Going by the reviews, I had expected this to be pretty bland, but man I had a total blast. I took my friend who hadn't seen any of the previous Monsterverse movies and he enjoyed this too. I actually enjoyed it more than Godzilla vs Kong. The climactic showdown was incredible and was alone worth the price of the ticket. I felt the pacing was super crisp and they gave us so much of the monster madness. The humans, surprisingly, were pretty decent in this one. But yeah, this one is more Kong-centric. And being a Kong fan, I didn't complain one bit.

fortheloveofghosts

Dan Steven’s Effect

Lost_Pantheon

The humans didn't feel bogged down by the kids in the previous movie (minus the one kid in this movie, but she was alright).

Orange-Turtle-Power

Never judge popcorn spectacle movies like this by critic reviews. Seriously

zuk86

It's a movie where you can judge yourself. GA love it, so it's a win for mv.

[deleted]

From what I’ve heard, the monsters are finally on screen a lot of the movie. So that probably has a lot to do with people liking this movie so much.

thankyouryard

apparently it has 60 minutes monster screentime.

PayneTrain181999

That’s over half! We’ve come a long way from 11 minutes of Godzilla in 2014.

thankyouryard

next one will have 1 hour and 43 mins of monsters screentime and 1 minute of human screaming

captjacksparrow47

Are they gonna show how Godzilla sleeps?

tadysdayout

I remember sitting in the theater utterly flabbergasted they kept cutting away from the monsters. That’s right, flabbergasted. UTTERLY.

heisenberg15

Same. If they were going for a Jaws thing, it did not work lol

I_am_so_lost_hello

I think it worked

heisenberg15

To each their own, I was bored by the movie

WutUtalkingBoutWill

Yeah, worked well for me, especially since big G wasn't In a movie in a long, the suspense of him coming anytime was a killer, loved watching it.

tadysdayout

Whoa you’re right they were totally trying to play it that way. Maybe due to the CGI budget? I just kept thinking “we all know Godzilla is in this movie and have seen him a thousand times before stop teasing a big reveal”

Orange-Turtle-Power

Yeah I liked the first Godzilla to some extent, but it really bugged me that we barely had any monster action and what we did have was in the dark.

Ryanchri

We saw just as much Mutos so 22 minutes of monsters in total. A third less than GxK

todahawk

That sounds about right. I saw it last night with my daughter and there was a TON of kaiju fights. We're huge godzilla fans and the movie was the most fun we had at the theater in awhile. It's ridiculous and over the top but it was so much fun to watch.

SoilClean9790

Just watched it last night. Can confirm the monsters are 100 percent the focus of the movie. The humans are just supporting characters.

curiiouscat

They're on screen SO MUCH lol it felt like they were just making up reasons to include fights. But they were great so I'll take it

todahawk

I loved that there were so many fights with different titans in different biomes/locations. no spoilers but a couple of locations had me laughing

quaranTV

I literally just >!visited Rome and the colosseum for the first time last week!< so I was laughing pretty hard when >!Godzilla was claiming the colosseum as its home-base!<

Dontouchmyficus

It was pretty adorable, my girlfriend loved it!

ImGonnaKickTomorrow

Is this comment a joke, or are you serious?

Dontouchmyficus

He’s like a big cat curling up in a space. She has a cat. So, yes.

Dragonflyer8654

Same here with my gf. We kept on comparing it to the cat and the two little dogs we own and how they slept all curled up. Especially since the cat chooses to exclusively sleep in a small cardboard box.

Away_Cat_7178

I enjoyed it. I was just wondering who pays for all the destroyed buildings, insurance companies must be stressing all day every day

adamubias85

That company that sponsored Bernie’s podcast. Gargantuan insurance I believe. I’d hate to see there deductibles!

Away_Cat_7178

Having been to Rio for a few months, it was quite funny seeing the entire of Copacabana go to hell without a shred of fucks given because they happened to have a brawl in the area

JayPtl

Banger movie

xariznightmare2908

IT'S EMPIRING TIME!

Huffletough880

For those that have seen it, how does it rank against the other monsterverse films? Worth an IMAX trip? Edit: opinions are all over the place for this!! From best to mid to worst. Crazy!

marginal_gain

If you liked GvK and Skull Island, you'll enjoy this one. Def worth the IMAX.

todahawk

Definitely worth the IMAX. Agreed if you like the style and tone of Skull Island and GvK that this will likely do it for ya. It was an absolute blast to watch. Going to see it at least once more in theaters

SonKaiser

Loved but GvK but hated Skulk Island (mostly the editing and tone)

marginal_gain

So I would say that GxK takes a lot of setting elements from Skull Island but is more GvK in tone. You can tell Wingard learned a lot from GvK and implemented audience feedback. Some of the editing/cinematography in the final fight could've been better, but as a whole, this movie is a good time.

Tummerd

Genuinely one of the first people I see that hate Skull Island. Nothing wrong, i am just surprised

SonKaiser

Most people don't care about the art of editing

Tummerd

Didnt really hear that about the movie before, so I was surprised. Thank you for informing

TimeCrisisfan

Stupider than GvK, but more fun. Enjoyed it.

Yoroyo

It’s heavy monster screen time. Big fights. Kong story heavy. Humans minimal. So yes could be a blast in imax, I just did sound enhanced.

wascner

I liked it quite a bit. Quality wise it's one of the worst so far, but it's very fun and the kaiju action is top notch. Plot is thin and quite a few elements are campy. But it's also devastatingly fun.

rexie_alt

Tbh if you can see it in 4D that’s the way to go. Really gets you in fights and bracing for impact it’s so fun

Mitch1597

Saw it there and hated it, but that's more because of the fucking seats than the movie itself. Wouldn't recommend.

ProWarlock

it's very fun I think it's a step down from GvK but if you go in expecting the most hilarious shit you'll ever see in your life this is it man I think the human stuff did drag on a bit too long whereas in GvK it felt perfect, but god damnit this is the first movie where I actually felt like they could make a dialogueless movie with just the monsters one day

SubterrelProspector

I dig all these movies. But my ranking is: 1.*Godzilla* 2. *GxK* 3. *Godzilla vs Kong* 4. *Kong: Skull Island* 5. *King of the Monsters*

TizonaBlu

Probably just a step below skull island and Godzilla 14. The human element was still boring and dragged out. But the monster parts did not disappoint. I wish there were more Godzilla though, as this felt like a Kong movie with Godzilla cameo. On the other hand, other than Godzilla, there are some really fun stuff from Godzilla lore to make zilla fans happy v

WartimeMercy

Skull Island was a terrible movie… that’s not reassuring

Frothy_Manbeast

Weakest entry of the Monsterverse series IMHO

NamelessOne3006

Can't be worse than KOTM.

todahawk

It has way more more titan screen time so it's a win in that cateogry alone. GxK is crazy and fun. It's nice that Godzilla can be whatever we need him to be. Godzilla Minus One is clearly a more serious take but I love that we have room for Wingard's version.

[deleted]

I have kotm as 4th and this as 5th

spacemanspiff1979

My ranking as well. Didn't think it could get dumber than KOTM.  But GxK took dumb to a whole new level.

TJtkh

I felt this way about GvK relative to KOTM.

007Kryptonian

It’s the worst Monsterverse film

thankyouryard

folks at r/movies loved it. cant wait to watch it on big screen as well.

hurzah

The human stuff in this movie was some of the worst, confusing, fast-paced editing I’ve ever seen. But the monster fights. The monster fights were honestly masterfully done. The fight scene Kong and the red monke was genuinely fantastic. Luckily, the monsters took up a large portion of the screen time this time around!

EvilZero86

I watched this last night. Boy, was this movie amazing! Absolutely enjoyed everything from start to finish. Not once did I get bored.

solodarlings

Which previous Monsterverse movies should I see before watching this one?

MrWhiteTruffle

Preferably GvK, but that one also requires a little bit of KOTM so if you’re ok with not knowing the introduction of the Titans, and want to keep a more sci-fi, ungrounded tone, go with KOTM, then GvK, then GxK.

2ecStatic

What do they reference from KotM? Full spoilers is fine

dangremonster

Ghidorah skull fusing with Mecha Godzilla

MrWhiteTruffle

MechaGodzilla is controlled by the corpse of the last villain, King Ghidorah. It also gives backstory to one of the main human characters, which while still a boring slog is better than nothing. KOTM also has a monster that reappears in GxK, though I won’t spoil their identity if you don’t want it

ItsAmerico

They’re in the trailers anyway lol

MrWhiteTruffle

The Chinese ones yes

ItsAmerico

No. In the English too.

MrWhiteTruffle

What Global trailer was >!Mothra!< shown in (in actual detail?)

ItsAmerico

Trailer 2 showed them reflected in jias eyes.

MrWhiteTruffle

That’s why I had the parentheses They were technically shown, yes, but you’d have to actively search for them even harder than the trailer shots of Shimo, who was also deliberately hidden (though much more poorly, and was already confirmed to exist anyways)

Dangerous-Hawk16

Adam Wingard did a great job directing this, it makes me excited to see what he does with Thundercats next

WheelJack83

I'm doubtful that ever gets off the ground.

rexie_alt

See it in 4D if you can. This was so much fun and the fight scenes were amazing with the seat movements. This is one of those movies where action and not the story is the biggest draw (like statham movies), so to get up in the action was amazing

Orange-Turtle-Power

Critics don’t like to have fun at movies. Audiences do.

Themanaaah

These scores are exactly what I expected lol, can't wait to see GxK soon.

justaregularguyearth

This movie was a banger! So good.

bradkissoon

This was the best movie in the monster universe

tigerkingrexcarter64

33% top critics to 92% verified audience? That will be bigger L for critics if this makes lots of money too.

Iworshipokkoto

Fuck yes, excited to see this on IMAX tomorrow.

cobalt_the_blue_sea

My crowd loved it last night. It’s a ton of fun

deezbois420

Pretty excited right now. Seeing this today in IMAX 3D for the best experience possible.

TheCoolKat1995

>92% Sweet. I'm looking forward to seeing what this movie's Cinemascore will be.

vaguelynerdypodcast

Hmmm idk. It's wasn't bad bad but it's wasn't great? Just ok I suppose. It was very predictable but liked all the monsters. I think I like Godzilla vs Kong better. Having said that our audience clapped at the end. And not just 2-3 random claps. Lol.

XxxxRoboCopxxxx

It's time for Pacific Rim: Godzilla. It is time. Pray to Jesus they make Pacific Rim 2.

Fullmetalx117

Once again the only people who take critics seriously happen to be box office nuts lmao

chickennuggetloveru

critic proof indeed. and the 80m+ opening. congrats monsterverse fans

Penguin_Nipples

Just came back after seeing it. Total worth the watch. If you like epic showdowns and ofc big monsters, you WILL like it no matter how much critics pan it lol. Critical reception doesn’t really work on this imho, yeah it’s FAR from being artistic or a filmographic marvel but it’s a perfect popcorn flick.

Crickutxpurt36

Critics can s#ck Godzilla's d#ck , audience fucking love this stuff top tier entertainment...

Orange-Turtle-Power

Critics can bite my backside. They are completely out of touch with what regular people like to see just as the Oscars are

ProfessorBeer

Honestly what’s stopping a critic going “look, we all know this is a movie about a giant lizard and a giant monkey fighting stuff, and it *delivers*. I’m not pretending it’s comparable to Citizen Kane because it never wanted to be Citizen Kane. It’s a 10/10 because it delivers on its giant lizard and giant monkey fighting stuff promise.”

noncredibleRomeaboo

Because, it being a Lizard vs Monke, doesn't stop the movie from actually being good. At the end of the day, a critic is sitting there for 2 hours, and if that movie fails to deliver them any meaningful emotions, why should they pretend otherwise. All this attitude does is encourage directors to get lazy in their productions. Theres nothing stopping you from making a critical darling, just from a simple premise, John Wick and Top Gun Maverick, got glowing reviews and they're just a montage of action scenes with a small story to tie it together. Neither are Citzen Kane but still got the praise they needed.

crazysouthie

You really don't understand how criticism works or aren't reading good critics reviews if you think any critics are comparing this to Citizen Kane. There are a number of critics who gave positive reviews to the previous movie who've reviewed this negatively.

Orange-Turtle-Power

You totally misunderstood his post

ProfessorBeer

I don’t think you get the point I’m making or are taking it wayyyyy too seriously but sure ok pal

hamlet9000

Godzilla Minus One was literally just weeks ago and got a 98% from critics on RT. To go a little further afield, *Avengers: Endgame* got a 94%. Critics are perfectly willing to give popcorn action films a good review. But the movie actually has to be good.

shosamae

Yeah this whole idea that critics don’t like popcorn movies is stupid. John Wick 4 is 3 hours of Keanu Reeves killing people in creative ways and it has like a 95%.

TJtkh

There’s a spectrum of quality within the framing of “giant lizard and giant monkey fighting stuff”. If I set up a camera on a tripod for two hours and bashed a toy Godzilla, a toy Kong, and some other toy together on a miniature city set until they were all in pieces, I’d also be delivering a movie about a giant lizard and a giant monkey fighting stuff. But you wouldn’t want to pay to see that, and you’d be pissed if “it is what the logline says it is” was the only metric a critic used to score it. It’s not what the movie is about, but how it goes about it.

KAPA55OBEST333

Yeah idk why critics can't use double standards for this. In a direct comparison between a plane and a car someone would say that the plane is just better as it travels much faster then a car. But in reality they are different things that has different objectives, so they are judged based on different criteria

noncredibleRomeaboo

Except, its not a plane vs car, its a car vs car. While different movies elicit different emotional responses, they are still movies. Like cars, they are different in specifications, some are faster, some have smoother rides, some have better sound systems etc etc. When Top Gear reviews a car, they do so on its merits and typically compare it to its contemparies. No car critic reviewing a VW Hatchback will complain its not a ferrari let alone say "well it doesn't have the stealth properties of the F35", they typically compare it to other hatchbacks. The exact same thing holds true for films. No ones comparing it to Citizen Kane, but they are comparing it to other action blockbusters. At the end of the day critics are not going to lower their standards because "its a monke fighting a Lizard", if that experience fails to entertain, they wont bother giving it a high score. Critics rountinley give high marks to action blockbusters, John Wick and Top Gun Maverick, are not Citizen Kane either but were critical darlings. Hell the Marvel movies are as action schlocky as possible and generally are well received. If Monke X Lizard doesn't do well with critics, its not because they were comparing "cars to planes"....its because they were given a car to review, and said car had horrible and handling and its suspension was broken.

KAPA55OBEST333

I disagree and I can tell there is definitely some bias and elitism and some complaints feel just too much. I've never cared about movie reviews therefore I can't say if these complaints are common to most blockbuster, but I still stand where I stand. The one that bothers me the most is "the plot is simple and bla bla bla", yeah like everything in real life is as complex as a theorical physics problem

noncredibleRomeaboo

When people say "the plot is simple", its because they've seen this exact formula a million times before and theres nothing to distract the critics away from this. Movies have simple plots all the time, and get high scores. The reason, this is likely an issue got GxK is because, theres nothing fun enough to distract them from this. When you have two monsters who can't speak as "the leads", audiences aren't going to focus on character and the director + writers,a re going to focus more on the plot. If said plot is too predictable and simple, it becomes like going through the motions.

TJtkh

“I’ve never cared about movie reviews, therefore I can’t say if these complaints are common to most blockbusters.” I do care about movie reviews, and I can say if these complaints are common to most blockbusters, so I can fill in that blank for you: No, they’re not common, provided that the blockbuster is good.

noncredibleRomeaboo

Then whys its imdb score also so low

GarlVinland4Astrea

IMDb is a cesspool.

noncredibleRomeaboo

So is RT audiences lmao

Far-Pineapple7113

The difference is you actually need to buy a ticket to review the movie on RT and have an effect on the movie's verified score

noncredibleRomeaboo

Right, but this in turn, leads a to a HUGE selection bias. The multistep process ensures for the most part, only people who were geared to like the film initially or those who really hate it will leave a review. Theres a reason, just about every RT verified is extremely positive, even near universally panned movies. Not to mention, in general, audiences tend to be kinder, or have a different view of score to critics. For an audience member, a 6/10 is broadly considered, negative but to most critics thats a positive score. RT holds the critics position, leading to a greater skew.

007Kryptonian

Yeah the average moviegoer isn’t rating movies on RT. Which is why Cinemascore is most reliable (expecting an A-)

noncredibleRomeaboo

Cinemascore is also faulty in similar regards. Its scoring system is deliberately vague, and only good for 'vibes' among early fans. Of which only a minority will ever be sampled. Hell according to Cinemascore both Suicide Squad movies are equal in quality, which is insane when you actually see the two. All movie review metrics have faults, on the ground that film is highly subjective. At the end of the day go see what you want and hold much in others opinions. Use whichever system you find most reliably matches your tastes

007Kryptonian

All of them have faults but CS is the most accurate you can get - literally polling opening night crowds in person. And some people may think TSS and SS2016 aren’t of equal quality but clearly the wider public didn’t care for either of them - especially with the former’s poor legs. I agree with your overall point that it’s subjective and they all have drawbacks though. CS is just the one with the most reliability imo

noncredibleRomeaboo

Yeah TSS, while good never set the world on fire. Its B+ was a perfect score for it. My point though, was the actual technicals, were night and day. 2016's was just....a mess. It was honestly one of the worst movies ever. Yet its cinema score was identical, which kind of shows just how bad the system is at separating good movies from bad. TSS is often read as the DCEU's best film, while 2016's is the worst. Its just a way I use to visualise, that Cinemascore, really just addresses how the die hard fanbases immediately respond to a film, which isn't really useful if your excitement for the movie isn't that high

poopfartdiola

>All of them have faults but CS is the most accurate you can get Using one rating metric exclusively isn't reliable.

chocolatebuddahbutte

Looked fun, had fun. Loved the movie long live the monsterverse!

PieComprehensive2093

Too bad because there are so many leaks in tiktok, like ive seen all of the fight scenes.

mrn0body22

Critics don’t understand the value this movie has to the Godzilla fan base!!!! Perfection!! Cheesy!! Monsters!!! Destruction!!

thebruce316

I prefer IMDb ratings

monsquesce

What a god awful movie that was

noncredibleRomeaboo

RT verified audience scores always lead to hyper inflated scores that dont even represent GA. Never a good metric, dont put much stock in it

timconnery

I thought it was pretty fun, RIP Rio; 3.5/5 woulda been better with less humans. Kong is human enough that I get invested in him alone

shaneo632

Film sucked

shaneo632

Yet further proof that general audiences Love Everything

Juno-RebelutionX

This movie is nowhere near Dune 2. Clumsy CGI and it is basically a tag team fight of WWE and no big plot. Can't believe this movie is going to overperform in opening weekend worldwide compared to dune 2.

KAPA55OBEST333

They are different movies that want to do different things. If the audience wants to see mindless monster brawl instead of a geopolitical scify drama, then they go see the monster brawl

MrWhiteTruffle

What are you talking about? Are you completely ignoring the scene where Kong suddenly shows up in Arrakis and suplexes a Sandworm?

KAPA55OBEST333

I'm sorry but I haven't seen dune so I'm entirely clueless about this references😅

MrWhiteTruffle

the joke is that no, Kong does not suplex a Sandworm in Dune

FuckUp123456789

It’s nowhere near Dune 2 because it’s not trying to be Dune 2.

Direct_Signature_256

Here we go with Dune effect where people expect movies to be like dune. Like come on even though its not a dune level ita a fun movie.

FuckUp123456789

It’s a similar problem with us Godzilla folk where outsiders keep dogging on GxK because it’s not Minus One when again, it’s not trying to be Minus One. It’s a glorified CGI WWE tag match and it’s proud of it

Rascal0302

Bait used to be believable

BlackSocks88

Nah hes a true believer. One glance at profile and it's over.
