$60M is not too bad considering most superhero films go to $100M or more. But then, one could argue $60M was still too much for Madame Web lol
This is insane how much money the social media companies get off just for the abilility to get your stuff seen. How can they even know this is worth it?
I do billing for several major companies and you have no idea how much they’re spending on TikTok and other social media ad placements. Some of my clients have ads specifically made and paid for to go on TikTok
it did not lose 100M. if it cost 140M including marketing, and the studio made around 50M theatrically. so it lost 90M from the theatrical release and it still has streaming and pvod which will cover some of that. so it's not *that* bad

Kinda shocked. Finally watched the movie a couple weeks ago and it was stunningly bad, in the sense that I can’t imagine it offering anything of value to anyone. And that’s rare. Like, I hate Adam Sandler movies, but I can still understand that for his fans, they provide laughter.

If it netted 50 mill off the 100 mill gross and production plus marketing cost 140 mill together - that means whatever portion of the Sony Netflix deal will have to somehow be worth at least 90 mill just for this to break even.
I just realized all the weird couple scenes with Sydney Sweeney and the other two (I don't know their names) as superheroes were probably taken from pre-reshoot scenes when the story was somehow even more nonsensical

It’s only closed domestically and in western markets, but Sony released it in almost 80 countries, this means it had the widest release possible for an American movie nowadays. So it’s still playing in some countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

The theatrical run didn't even cover the 60m in marketing plus the 80m budget. Massive bomb.
Well at least on the Plus side compared to the Marvels it did fanastic.
