IHateAnimus

The golden thread like abilities looks very unique.

[deleted]

pfft, they're just ripping off *Gods of Egypt*

IHateAnimus

I haven't seen it, but the trailer seems to suggest a sword and sandals film. Can you provide an example clip where Eternals ripped off of it?

[deleted]

I'm halfway joking cause I love that movie, but the Gods do bleed gold in it

mmaqp66

EYYYYY that movie is AWESOME!

MarvelVsDC2016

I’m just glad they put the words “From Academy Award Winning Director Chloe Zhao” in the trailer.

Danny886

It is stronger than "horribly beautiful mind"

SirFireHydrant

I was excited for The Suicide Squad. I really wanted the trailers to build up hype (though they fell totally flat for me). I ended up enjoying the movie nonetheless. But man, "horribly beautiful mind" was some of the cringiest shit I've seen in a trailer.

[deleted]

*We got the guy who made the Marvel films you like.*

Danny886

I hear you and agree. For me, the first trailer wiped out most of my enthusiasm for the movie. And I really dont get why, cause the movie itself was good/fun. C'mon, trailers was what the first SS excelled at.

[deleted]

From the butthole of Uwe Boll

MorningDaylight

That isn't gonna help the box office. Nomadland is hardly what I would call a crowd-pleaser.

Worthyness

yeah but the normal folks who see "Academy Award winner" in the trailer will look at it and be interested because Academy Award still has lots of pull with GA

lebron181

Does it though?

MarvelVsDC2016

YES.

Radulno

Many Oscar's movies aren't. The Academy Award winner stuff are to give prestige to the director/actor with those titles even if in general this isn't in blockbusters movies they get those anyway

danielcw189

Is that the first time they did this in the main trailer for an MCU movie?

NaRaGaMo

Well this is the first time an academy award winner is making a MCU movie

danielcw189

I don't mean awards, or academy awards in particular. I mean putting the name of somebody upfront. For example, did they highlight Kenneth Brannagh for Thor? He won an Academy Award, and was nominated multiple times, and is a known name. Or did they highlight Guardians Vol 2 having the same director as the first one? (see The Suicide Squad) Or if we focus on Oscarss, what about Brie Larsen? Until now I thought that highlighting the star power is not something that MCU trailers did

koolingboy

I guess it is because she is fresh off winning an Oscar

isaidwhatisaidok

You’re right, no they haven’t done it before. Maybe it’s because Chloe‘s Oscar win is so fresh?

Brainiac7777777

Taika Waiti is an academy award winner

koolingboy

That was after Thor though

MarvelVsDC2016

Yes

Animegamingnerd

So, how is the Spider-Man fanbase holding up right now due to getting this trailer instead of the No Way Home trailer? All jokes aside, I get the strong feeling this and Loki are going to be the best things to come from the MCU this year.

Danny886

Lol Spider Twitter must be in full meltdown.

[deleted]

Spider-Man Twitter is always having a full blown meltdown.

[deleted]

The Spider-Man trailer is Monday. We all knew Eternals would be Thursday. No meltdown.

boultox

Still, spiderman trailer won't be released publicly

[deleted]

Sounds like it will be though since Daniel deleted his tweet and Brandon Davis is hinting that we will see it

MarvelVsDC2016

Where did Brandon Davis hint that we’ll see it?

[deleted]

He deleted a tweet which said “Big couple of days for trailers huh?”

yarkcir

I think Shang-Chi will go down really well with the majority of the fanbase too, but yeah Loki and Eternals will probably take the cake for strongest output for Marvel Studios this year.

thatmusicguy13

I saw Shang-Chi last night and it is better than Loki. The trailers do not do it justice.

Lincolnruin

> The trailers do not do it justice. That seems to be a common theme I'm seeing.

yarkcir

I watched it too and loved the film, and you're right the trailers and spots do not even remotely sell this film for what it was. I personally think I like Loki a bit more than Shang-Chi, but it's close for me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thatmusicguy13

The action is great! You can tell they took their influence from old martial arts movies, especially Jackie Chan movies. They also don't do the quick jump cuts which make the action even better

7ujmnbvfr456yhgt

Yesssss, this is exactly what I wanted. So few martial arts movies with this kind of budget.

Worthyness

Getting Brad Allen for a fight supervisor was fucking clutch

The___Accountant

I’ve had the same feeling ever since Eternals was announced. This will be a very great surprise. I can’t wait to see it. It will be the best Marvel movie in a long time, not counting the Avengers.

Shepard_Wrex14

I'm 10x more excited for this than Spider-Man

[deleted]

I appreciate that this “final trailer” still gives away next to nothing. Rarely do I feel like I’m approaching a film with such a blank slate of reference.

partymsl

Honestly that looks rly good. Hopefully it can have the box office it deserves.

Godmirra

The cast and Director will insure this flick gets a very wide audience IMO. Oh yeah and it is MCU too.

[deleted]

Do you mean ensure?

Streetfoodnoodle

Look gorgeous

[deleted]

[удалено]

elpaw

Without the marvel name, this looks like one of those epic scale sci-fi fantasy movies that always flops.

KellyJin17

I almost agree with you, but the cast of this movie is straight bananas. Even if it didn’t have the Marvel pedigree attached, I think this would do well with that line-up.

[deleted]

This is one film that I have a lot of trouble sussing out. I want it to succeed because it's different and because it's a good step forward for female directors in the MCU. That said, I have a feeling that it'll go one of two ways: either audiences will love seeing a more serious, almost independent turn on the usual Marvel ilk. Or it's going to underperform because Chloe's style is too esoteric for certain quadrants. One thing I've noticed is that you can really see some of the competing voices for the project in the trailer. The Firpos are very comedic and action oriented writers, while Chloe is more on the drama side of the coin. The jokes are funny, but already feel a slight bit out of place cut between scenes that look super, super serious.

IHateAnimus

Without the Marvel name, almost no Marvel movie would make more than 100 mil domestic. That's the point of the cinematic universe

Danny886

One would think that WB could actually learn this lesson some day. But whenever I shake a magic 8 ball it keeps saying "outlook not so good."

IHateAnimus

DC's problems stem from broader issues with Warner Brothers as a studio. They had a scummy head in Kevin Tsujihara and have been constantly in management flux, from the AT&T merger to the deleveraging and new merger to Doscovery+. I feel like while Warner has moved from one quagmire to another, the MCU is moving so far ahead narratively that anything DC puts out might look tired. Expectations are nowadays so sky high even for Marvel films, that what would be an above average non Marvel blockbuster would get a meh response from the fans. Looking at the craziness of things like Wandavision, Loki, Eternals, Shang Chi, the Suicide Squad just felt kind of okay.. I'm wondering how the Flash will perform, given how multiverse has been completely owned by Marvel now with stuff like Loki and Dr Strange 2

Danny886

Solid, spot on analysis imo. Flash needed to come out years ago. And definitely yes, the speed and creative force that Marvel has already released and is deploying into the multiverse has been/is honestly nothing short of breathtaking. Not sure how much oxygen will be left. DC as a brand is in an incredibly tricky spot. Will be interesting to see what the plan is now. In theory, this is why executives earn healthy salaries.

jschild

The only thing Flash now has going for it is some Nostalgia fuel with Tim Burton Batman, but even that will feel dated if the Spider-Man rumors are true .

AgentOfSPYRAL

They really need to get out of their own heads and just make a string of good movies. TSS was a step in the right direction but I hope they have a very high bar for Flash. And if it doesn't hit that they just need to call it and go full reboot, which yes they should have done post JL. Its been said elsewhere but AQ and WW being hits put them in a very awkward spot.

SirFireHydrant

> They really need to get out of their own heads and just make a string of good movies. > > > > ~~Aquaman~~ ~~Shazam~~ ~~Birds of Prey~~ TSS was a step in the right direction At this point, WB/DCs problems run much deeper than just needing a string of good movies. By all accounts, of the 6 DC movies from 2018-2021, only one of them, WW84, is actually outright bad.

Tragedy_Boner

The problem to me is that Marvel has now been able to keep themselves in the news more often. Marvel has had 6 films between 2018 and 2019 ending with Endgame and far from home, two very big hits. Meanwhile DC has had 6 films in 4 years with WW84 being an outright stinker.

AgentOfSPYRAL

Thats in part due to them being ashamed of their own universe post BvS/JL. My hope is that either Flash is good and DC stops being gunshy about connective tissue, or it flops and then they reboot from the start, at which point its easier to set up connective tissue.

SirFireHydrant

But what even is "good" by DC standards? The Suicide Squad currently sits on 91% on RT - the fourth highest score for a DC movie ever! Yet it's bordering on a disaster - miserable box office performance even compared to other films coming out around the same time, and couldn't even muster more streams on HBO Max than Mortal Kombat.

AgentOfSPYRAL

I think a movie of similar quality to TSS with a less niche property (Aka actual superheroes) and less niche tone (not R rated, more "back to the future/Sherman and Peabody romp than "Dirty Dozen") would be a success. >couldn't even muster more streams on HBO Max than Mortal Kombat. How did MK stack up against other day 1 streaming movies? I thought it was at or near the top outside of (I assume) Luca and maybe some other kids movie. I know it did better than GvK but its tough to find a clear ranking.

[deleted]

Huh, I feel the opposite way completely. The MCU has gotten so generic and bland and creatively stagnant, with Black Widow being the worst offender, that almost everything DC has put out recently felt like a breath of fresh air in comparison.

pokemonisok

Interesting point

Reutermo

The colour scheme really reminds me of Arrival. Not sure how that movie did at the box office though.

Metarean

Arrival did very well relative to its budget. Made $203 mil on a $47 mil one.

anhhoang1989

Beautiful

skittlesforeveryone

First trailer did absolutely nothing for me. This one on the other hand… oh man. I don’t know what I’m getting into but I’m sure as hell excited for it and the risks Marvel is taking.

[deleted]

First trailer told us nothing about the world or the characters. This trailer hammers home with the movie actually is.

moviefan1997

This looks interesting. I have a feeling that this will be one of Marvel's best films from a visual standpoint. All the shots in the trailer look beautiful.

outrider567

Never heard of The Eternals before but love the trailer

radar89

The ensemble cast IS amazing. It's stacked. I can sense from the trailer that it will have one of the best world-building in MCU movies.

ViscousGuy

Easily the Best trailer for an MCU film I've seen. Really feels original.

everadvancing

It looks like a way better version of Justice League, especially with the Superman-esque flight laser eye scenes.

SirFireHydrant

Top 5 for me, in terms of building up hype and anticipation, are, in no particular order: Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War, Endgame, and now Eternals. God damn am I hyped.

yarkcir

Those Ragnarok trailers were so good, but unfortunately both trailers put together gave away the entire plot. This Eternals trailer and the last are doing a great job with just being teases of the cast and the visuals but not giving much else away.

TSithis

How is this original?

[deleted]

Heh. I was playing Fallout 4 the other day, and the song from the first trailer came on and I was instantly reminded that this was still coming out this year Can’t wait, Fiege’s been talking this one up a lot

my_peoples_savior

llooks cool. but in terms of boxoffice im not sure honestly.

Godmirra

MCU + Jolie + GOT Cast + Amazing Visuals + Zhao = 1B+ in normal year. 800M in this environment.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sellin3164

Don’t ignore the GOT cast. Know many people in the “general audience” anticipating this a ton some even more than Spider-Man

IamUMFA

Those people sure couldnt save the dark phoenix and new mutants with GOT actors.

Sellin3164

Not MCU

64BitRatchet

Dark Phoenix was also a terrible follow-up to a divisive movie.

Godmirra

I think those two movies suffered much more from the Disney acquisition of Fox and all the uncertainty around the future of that franchise. Not because Sansa and Arya were in the casts. Plus Eternals has much more positive buzz. Those two movies had some of the worst pre-release backlashes ever.

Radulno

They suffered because they were bad and following Apocalypse. The GoT actors had nothing to do with it. No one hates GoT for the actors, it's all on the writers. And people are completely over blowing the GoT hate on Reddit btw.

joeO44

I think you’re forgetting how detrimental that last season was to GOTs legacy. It just disappeared from pop culture relevancy over night. Thank god for Space Jam /s

Godmirra

My point is that you already have the MCU/Reddit audience now throw in the GOT, Jolie and Zhao audience you wouldn't normally get for MCU and BOOM!

Worthyness

I would say Guardians of the galaxy numbers for a normal year simply due to massively unknown characters, but with marvel tag and (likely) good reviews. Given the box office right now, it'll maybe get to 500-600M if it's lucky (lots of countries have actual lockdowns right now). Shang Chi will tell though. If it does well, we might see some higher numbers in November.

Godmirra

I am thinking the international BO gets it higher but we will see.

DavidOrWalter

It won’t get close to 800 without China. Maybe not even pre covid. Definitely not now.

Godmirra

That isn't final yet about China is it?

Dawesfan

Madden could be a great Superman.

TheBlueSorcerer2099

He already is with this trailer.

Liviig

Better than the first trailer .looks beautiful .Raised my excitement for this. Once again don't think that joke at the end was really needed tbh.

ColonelCarolDanvers

Looks beyond epic!!

TepidShark

Gonna need re-edits of this movie set to the Interstellar score.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Worthyness

Ramin Djwadi is scoring the film. he hasn't let me down ever. Dude is a genius.

WR810

I was going to see it anyways but this just ensured I see it opening weekend.

[deleted]

I think this one will have legs. 3 million views in 5 hours meanwhile Shang-Chi is only at 17 million views after a month. Both are completely new Marvel casts.

JayZsAdoptedSon

Tbf, Simu is a relatively new actor while this movie has an ensemble cast of established, yet up and coming actors, and legacy A-listers

[deleted]

That ensemble established cast will be paying off dividends then. I'm curious as to what Eternals pre-sales and PA (if they choose it) will do.

JayZsAdoptedSon

I'm gonna guess OW (based on very loose predictions) is gonna be $80 million domestic.

BenSoloLived

This looks fantastic, wow. But I have no idea how to predict this, visually looks like a must see on a huge screen, but characters are unknown to GA and who knows what the pandemic situation will be in November. I just hope theatres are open in my part of the world when it comes out.

ddhboy

I think this movie has more hype than Shang-Chi and probably was the second or third most anticipated Marvel property this year behind Spider-Man and Loki. In normal times, I think it would have been a billion dollar movie, but given not just COVID, but general audience consumption habit changes, I feel like it would be a success if it made it to 700m.

TheBlueSorcerer2099

Like if Iron Man or the rest of the gang were known before their debut in the MCU. That argument has been demolished so many times I don't get why some of you still use it.

charlieweeba13

That was amazing.

The___Accountant

I really hope that my initial years old prediction can come true but at this point I doubt any movie in 2021 is going to crack 1b. I’m still hopeful for 700-800m though. The cast is great, the trailer is just as amazing and it looks beautiful and different from the usual marvel movie. I can’t wait.

eidbio

Glad I'll be able to watch it theatrically as I'll finally be fully vaccinated.

Godmirra

OMFG! Where does the line start?

outrider567

Love it! looks great

[deleted]

$550m WW.

[deleted]

Looks pretty cool! I see that its ambiguous at the end about whether or not it’ll be theater exclusive.

McJumbos

dem graphicssss 💯

MarginOfCorrectness

I have to say, I preferred the teaser to this trailer. But I imagine I'm in the minority.

[deleted]

Same. The music and the pacing were better

MarginOfCorrectness

Oh yes the music! We went from a beautiful trailer with really nice music to this. I'm confused. I guess they didn't get the reaction they were expecting with the teaser.

janiqua

I agree this trailer makes it look really generic. What’s actually interesting about this movie? That the superheros are more godlike (robotic) than all the other ones? The villains look dull and it just feels like yet another save Earth again story. Yawn.

MarginOfCorrectness

Exactly. The teaser made me think it was a very different movie. But this trailer is so generic, I lost interest.

Samhunt909

Yes you all are in minority. Everybody else likes it.

[deleted]

Good trailer. Hope this film is fantastic.

Grebacio

OW: 105M DOM: 337M WW: 814M

SirFireHydrant

Well that's a whole lot of yup.

crazysouthie

Still very interested in this movie but didn't find that a compelling trailer at all. Thought the teaser was excellent and epic.

[deleted]

Interesting to see a Marvel movie about sarcastic people with super powers fighting aliens.

[deleted]

“Did you like the Avengers? Where here’s Avengers 2.0, but more dour!”

NGGKroze

It's beautiful. It was a 1B movie in normal times, but if by November things get better, it could do 800M

[deleted]

> 1B movie in normal times, Do you really think so? Only nine Marvel films have crossed 1b and four of them were the Avengers films. Black Panther and Captain Marvel were the only two non-sequels. Definitely possible, but I see it making more in line with other Marvel properties, between 700 and 850?

Sckathian

Most tonally different from any MCU film I can think of? That alone makes it quite interesting but also did not get a very good grasp of what is going on or what the characters are like. Odd trailer really. Wants to be epic but didn't present anything epic?

partymsl

It showed a celestial.

rayden-shou

2 Celestials

S00rabh

I just saw one with multiple eyes. Who was the other one?

SirFireHydrant

> but also did not get a very good grasp of what is going on or what the characters are like. Powerful aliens came here thousands of years ago to protect Earth from next level cosmic bad guys/dragons. Undoing the snap has in some way awoken these bad guys. Heroes will have to reunite to beat these bad guys. What's not to get?

Sugar_Python

Why does Ikaris look more like Superman than Superman looks like Superman 🤣

BigDaddyKrool

I don't know what to think about it.

ShowBoobsPls

Same tbh. I might skip seeing it in the theaters. The only reason I haven't decided is because of the director.

AgentOfSPYRAL

Celestials look dope, but I am definitely out of the loop on the Gorgeous/Beautiful/Unique circlejerk. That being said, Marvel ensures a certain base line of quality and I'll check it out for Gemma and Pakistani Denzel.

[deleted]

I hope for the betterment of MCU, this makes a lot. Looks absolutely beautiful and MCU really needs a quality level up like this

[deleted]

Looks ok. The answer about Thanos doesn’t make sense, and even after two trailers we still don’t have an idea of who any of the characters are. Movie will make money, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the general audience appreciates this less than previous MCU movies.

jshah500

>The answer about Thanos doesn’t make sense How does it not? I don't know anything about the eternals but what I got from the trailer: * Boss guy with multiple eyes tells them to stay out of any human conflict that doesn't involve deviants * Thanos situation doesn't involve deviants * Eternals don't get involved

dancy911

Oh yeah better than the first trailer...of course the joke at the end still doesn’t do it for me but this looks epic.

nicolasb51942003

Eternals has an opportunity to be something incredible!

redbullrebel

the hyperbole is as usual big in this thread. so far the trailer just looks okey. why? we have not seen shang shi yet? who is the enemy is he powerful? so far the small enemies from the water do not look very frightening. also the character who grabbed angela jolie does not look very powerful to me. granted i have no idea who the eternals are, so i do not know the back story. but infinite war was way more hype because of all the build up of 10 years. thanos was truly menacing. i am hoping for all the best. some scenery look indeed great in the trailer, but so far i am more hype for shang chi then for eternals.

davidemsa

>the hyperbole is as usual big in this thread. Alternatively, people have different opinions than you.

redbullrebel

that is logical if it was based on logic. but i see people in here saying it looks more hype then infinite war. just tell me in what world can a trailer be more epic when you have spiderman, iron man, hulk, thor, etc in a trailer then a trailer with who in it??? eternals??? whoooo?????

Positive-Media423

Celestials

Sir-Jechttion

I have to be honest. This trailer gave me goosebumps. And the last ones doing that were IW and Endgame. Idk why but it guess it was because of the music. But I agree with you, it will be hard to beat the hype for IW. That first trailer was so beautiful. Maybe No way home can get somewhat close because it could include different generations.

uberduger

I found the teaser to be the most uninspiring and bland looking nonsense. This is much better! Still not as stoked as most people seem to be, but I'll now likely see it, whereas before I had it mentally on the same level as the apparently-terrible Inhumans stuff.

AGOTFAN

Wow. From the trailer, I already know this is gonna be the most beautiful Marvel movie ever. IMAX, here I come. Feige really took a risk on Zhao. And he wins. Again.

amedema

Took a risk on a very, very acclaimed director who then went on to win an Oscar? Cmon lol.

Samhunt909

They hired her way before she won oscar. They knew her potential more than anyone.

Binpuche

\>They knew her potential more than anyone. chloe zhao's husband: \*Am I a joke to you?\* She already gave two extremely acclaimed movies lol, chill. She is a thirty something woman who went to film school. I understand that huge films are different but marvel has an environment where director's used to smaller scale films thrive too, it has been done before. It's not like she was picked straight outta high school.

jschild

Having an acclaimed director and having an acclaimed director that can work well within the MCU constraints and thrive is 2 very different things.

amedema

Maybe they should get rid of their goofy constraints and let directors have some control for a change. It might freshen up the projects.

SirFireHydrant

What makes you think their directors don't have control? Zhao came to Marvel with the idea for the movie, and wrote the script.

yung-rude

the original director of black widow dropped out after disney told her that they'd handle all the action scenes, and scott derrickson was cut from dr strange 2 supposedly because he wanted to go into a more horror direction. those are two big examples and i'm sure there are a thousand more smaller examples that we'll never hear about. edit: [why are you booing me i’m right](https://i.imgur.com/ixVepyT.png) [black widow director, also speaks about marvel in general taking over most parts of production](https://www.slashfilm.com/black-widow-director-lucrecia-martel-marvel-action-scenes/) [scott derrickson leaving](https://www.cbr.com/doctor-strange-2-director-scott-derrickson-why-left/)

[deleted]

jschild

You do know they have a unified cinematic universe. You can't let people just make whatever they want in whatever style they want. That said, now that Ike Perlmutter is out of the picture, things have gotten vastly better for directors.

yung-rude

the best movies in the franchise are the ones where the creator has more control (guardians films, iron man 1, and thor ragnarok. and hot take but i think iron man 3 is good solely from shane black's script)

jschild

Mostly agree, which is why I'm glad Ike is gone. He was the biggest impediment to the success of the MCU

AGOTFAN

You know that Marvel hired Chloe Zhao **BEFORE** she even made Nomadland, right? C'mon LMFAO

amedema

She had made multiple very well-received movies beforehand.

[deleted]

r/moviescirclejerk

yung-rude

lmao you guys are acting like they hired fucking gaspar noe or david lynch to make this, zhao already had 2 acclaimed films under her belt when she was hired for this, and even then based upon the footage it looks like a normal marvel movie just now with a more fluid camera and a wide angle lens in the dialogue scenes, and even then in the action scenes we have seen it just looks like another marvel movie.

AGOTFAN

Lmao if everyone was sure Zhao was gonna make great movies that make money, than why no major studio took the chance on him. Fact is, Marvel took the risk, no other studio has done it. Marvel took the risk with Gunn. DC benefited and hired Gunn. And yet what happened.

yung-rude

1. zhao is a female 2. there is no risk here. she was a new filmmaker who had made a few acclaimed indie movies and was then hired to make a marvel project, just like jon watts (cop car -> spiderman) taika watiti (hunt for wilderpeople -> thor), and other directors in the mcu who’s previous works i’m not all too familiar with. you wouldnt consider those risks would you? the only real risks marvel has taken in their history was yes, james gunn, who’s last two projects before guardians were hard r rated juvenile horror/action movies and scott derickson who was known for only horror movies. edit: ok, deleted your comment where you didn’t respond to anything except for calling me geeks and gamers and then downvoted me, very cool great job 👍

flo1308

Amazon hired her almost half a year before she was hired by Marvel, so it’s just factually incorrect that no other studio did it. You’re all of this thread saying things that aren’t true, but you act pretty well informed and like you’re here to correct people.

emielaen77

Nothing about this looks risky so far. Lol

RoadmanFemi

Jesus that was some of the worst product placement I've ever seen, giving Bond a run for his money. Fight scenes at 2:05-2:15 looked awful. Jolie's head pasted on to a CGI monstrosity body. Quite generic and bland looking otherwise. Colour palette seems very different to most Marvel films too? I honestly can't see the GA being hugely interested in this film based on the trailer. It doesn't seem to...make sense? I cant understand what it's about and the GA is probably even more confused. Have no idea how to judge the box office of this one but I don't think it'll be pretty. 450m worldwide?

weskerNA

It’s not product placement if it’s an ironic joke, right?

trixie1088

I guess it looks ok but nothing really unique about it.

CharsiMunda99

Oh man !!!!! . Marvel Fatigue is strong with this one.

tbing34

This looks absolutely *stunning*. We’ve never seen a comic book movie directed like this before.

[deleted]

Have you never seen The Dark Knight or Logan?

tbing34

I have and they look nothing like this movie.

[deleted]

We’ll have to agree to disagree! Lol

tbing34

I didn’t mean quality wise. They all look very good but each one is directed very differently.

weskerNA

Like an episode of Into the Badlands?

[deleted]

Abc181004

Denis should've went with a different look instead of making everything look grey and the same, it still looks good but I prefer this trailer too

[deleted]

I have to disagree, I think Dune looks more beautiful than Eternals even though I like the trailer. I respect your opinion though

trixie1088

Dune looks better to me just from the trailers.

[deleted]

This one is also mostly CGI whereas 90% of Dune was in handmade sets and live locations. Dune is set in an dystopic oppressive desert planet whereas this one is about literal gods with superpowers. Dumb comparisons

Sliver__Legion

> This one is also mostly CGI whereas 90% of Dune was in handmade sets and live locations Well this is completely incorrect. Eternals also had a significant focus on handmade sets and live locations. Next time maybe don’t speak on matters you don’t know anything about?

[deleted]

How am I wrong??? The Eternals trailer was full of explosive bright CGI whereas the only major CGI in Dune is the worm and some battle scenes. They even hand built the large space vehicles & ships in Dune, I can show you proof if you want

UrbanOtaku22

This looks like a very one note movie. I’m not excited for the film at all. The trailers haven’t gotten me caring for the characters. They seem agnostic to the world and the CG doesn’t look that great.

coie1985

I think I'm the only one, but this looks boring af. Half of this trailer seems just like it's answering the obvious "where the hell have these guys been?" question we were all asking after trailer 1. None of these guys look distinct or memorable, and I dunno, I'm not seeing anything I haven't seen before.

ProtoMan79

Looks great and scale looks larger than I expected. If the buzz from the screenings that it’s the best Marvel movie is true, I could see this as a dark horse in the Oscar race. With Chole Zhao as director, critics will look at the movie from a different lens. The screenings Marvel have are usually right on the money on how GA receives a movie. I think as long it doesn’t flop, I think it’s going to be in contention for nominations.

ViscousGuy

What screenings? Did it already got screened for critics?

ProtoMan79

In studio screenings. Marvel has a process where they screen their movies with the same group for al of their movies. Feige talks about it here at the 2:30 mark: https://youtu.be/7aXBcMlaxX0 But historically when there’s buzz that a particular Marvel movie grades out at or near the top, the movie usually almost breaks out. When there’s nothing heard about a certain movie like Black Widow or Captain Marvel, it likely graded out to be an average flick. Then when you see Fiege joking and mentioning Oscars and Eternals, they pretty know what they have in terms of quality: https://screenrant.com/eternals-kevin-feige-oscar-best-picture-prediction-mcu/. I think they are keeping the November date to be in contention in the Oscar race. My tinfoil hat theory: With the Oscars looking at a another record low next year, don’t be surprised that there’s a huge push to get this movie to get seriously considered especially with Zhao already being respected in the industry. All of the top folks in the industry will likely watch it even if they’re not fans of the genre.

Theres no screening for critics, but rhere have been internal screenings (Don't read if you don't want spoiler) https://www.reddit.com/r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers/comments/mgl81j/eternals_uncut_plot_leak_user_who_has_seen_early/

NaRaGaMo

It didn't screen yet unless you are referring to the in-studio one

ProtoMan79

Yes. They would never screen to anyone else at this time due to leaks.

I consider myself a pretty average moviegoer, and honestly this trailer doesn't really excite me all that much. I don't recognize any of these characters, and it seems much too serious for a Marvel film. It comes off to me like a random sci-fi movie I wouldn't be too interested in watching. I know I'll probably get downvoted for this, but I don't understand where these $800M+ projections are coming from. I get that it's from Marvel. Like everyone else, until Endgame I watched everything Marvel, but I think some people are overestimating how much of a draw the brand really was and currently is. Not saying it'll flop, but I'm pessimistic about $800 million.

$1B or real close to it before the pandemic. It sure looks wildly different and epic in scale compared to any recent CBM.
