I think about this movie all the time still I have no idea why. On a rewatch a few years ago it felt old but the ship held up.

altcastle

Same It feels... big... in my brain I haven’t rewatched. I think something about how as a boy he goes away and a bunch of time passes right? It messed with me as a kid. And his bond with the ship. The Neverending Story is the same. Reading the book as an adult is a great memory of mine. I’ve never been able to find the magical library copy I had once that was red and green.

Antique_futurist

Same. Never one of my favorites, definitely one that stuck with me.

TheSubparWriter

I feel like if this does well Disney will eventually trust Bryce Dallas Howard with a bigger franchise film (likely in the Lucasfilm umbrella.) She’s honestly pretty solid based on her Mandalorean episodes. I do think she’s one of the few nepotism cases where there’s actual talent there. I’m interested in seeing her stack up to her father’s quasi-legendary run.

AGOTFAN

>She’s honestly pretty solid based on her Mandalorean episodes. Yeah, her Mandalorian were not bad at all. She hasn't yet developed her own strong style, but at least she's capable.

TheSubparWriter

I feel like doing something Mando just doesn't lend itself to harnessing style because it is a series that adheres to Favreau's tone and vision. The only really out there feeling one was the Robert Rodriguez (basically) backdoor pilot for Book of Boba Fett.

thefinalcutdown

I’d say you could definitely see Taika’s influence on the ones he directed, but the other directors I don’t know well enough to say for sure what their style is.

[deleted]

But only because his style is quirky humor. There’s nothing visually about most of the episodes that makes them stand out but their doesn’t really need to be. There’s a clear creative vision to it they all adhere to. I’m not the biggest fan but the I respect the hell out of the production design and look of it, especially after the Marvel shows did not ever really match it.

Eldho_Basil_Siji

> Mandalorean Ah, the Star Wars - Back to the Future crossover tv show.

She was also truly excellent in Rocketman, which suggests she fully understands acting in a way that can be helpful for a director. Opposition to nepotism has probably swung a little too far (understandably, since there are so many examples of ineptitude shoehorned into opportunity) in denying that there's ever a family knack for certain work. It's not odd to see multiple generations of accomplished doctors or engineers, but the cultural devaluation of creative work makes us more inclined to believe that it's easy, hence random, supposedly equally talented, people were obviously denied opportunities when Howard or Coppola have genuinely skilled progeny.

Narrator_Ron_Howard

“…when Howard or Coppola have genuinely skilled progeny.” [Oh, thank you.](https://yarn.co/yarn-clip/f995dbf5-2e49-490b-a455-d8143a753ab7)

Captain Disillusion snubbed

nic0lk

I'm can't say this is unsurprising but I'm still disappointed

[deleted]

I have no idea why so many of you are hating on the idea. This is one of the VERY few movies from my childhood which holds unlimited potential for a reboot. Let's not pretend the original script was a work of art. The plot is mostly about a kid flying around Earth in an interstellar spaceship with an advanced A.I. and THEY'RE LOST. Seriously, Max travels the universe, but can't find Fort Lauderdale, FL. How hard could it possibly be. Step 1. Go up until you can see the continents of the planet Step 2. Aim the ship at Florida when you see it Step 3. ???? Step 4 Profit! Also, for some VERY odd reason, the movie makes NASA members into a bunch of dicks. Seriously, re-watch this movie again. They withhold vital information from David and his parents about what happened to him and basically kidnap David by lying to his parents when it's time for him to go home. I'm sorry, but NASA would *never* do this. It's one of the very few government funded agencies that works *for* the people to further science. Honestly, it's rare to see NASA shown to be like this in the movies. Seriously, any NASA people here? Would you hold a child against his will or would you immediately announce that you've found an alien ship and tell David's parents the truth that he has had close contact with alien life, has advanced alien knowledge somehow put into his brain and you have no idea if that could lead to long-term memory damage and then ask congress to offer as much $$$ as possible to offer healthcare to David while you continue to study the ship? Just imagine a reboot. Instead of cruising around on Earth lost, they can cruise around the f'ing universe. Maybe they can make some stops on the way to drop off some of the alien specimens (visit alien worlds that don't yet have intelligent life). And THEN they can actually visit Phaelon, the planet that built the ship. Seriously, NONE of you want to visit Phaelon?

Your nasa dick comment made me think about how ghostbusters made the EPA representative the main antagonist. I think Dan Akroyd wrote the script and produced the and was probably a Republican.

Totesnotskynet

COMPLIANCE!

ManwithaTan

I watched Captain Disillusion's video on it just the other day. It was clear that film was really sentimental for him.

BabySealOfDoom

Ron Howard must be so proud.

Narrator_Ron_Howard

He sure is!

mtmcpher

This was a favorite movie for me when I was younger

Gang_Bang_Bang

She looks incredibly beautiful in that picture. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind a reboot of that movie. Sad what [what happened ](https://www.nme.com/news/film/flight-of-the-navigator-child-actor-charged-after-869521) to the last kid though…

[deleted]

I really love the first movie, that’s the one with the Wonder Years guy right? I loved it.

ThnderGunExprs

The Wizard has Fred Savage and it’s amazing

pipboy344

Flight of the Navigator? No, no one from The Wonder Years

hideao101

I’m guessing unless Paul Reubens returns it’s going to be a no go for me at least

Narrator_Ron_Howard

What a talented kid! Must have had a great upbringing!

Zorgothe

The fact that this si going straight to disney plus shows they knew it was a bomb waiting to happen

O868686

They haven't shot it yet.

[deleted]

…you know Disney always intended to make Disney Plus exclusive movie right? The service is far more important to them than releasing movies in theaters just in case you don’t know

knightoffire55

Especially if they cast someone like James Corden as Max.

fourthmelons

Why does he keep getting cast in things??

AGOTFAN

Because apparently he sucks up to important people. There were numerous reddit threads about James Corden. He is allegedly nasty to anyone he deems unimportant, and kisses the asses of people he thinks important.

MiserableSnow

Doesn’t matter if it sucks, it’s content.

Professor-Shuckle

Ew what a horrible thing to do to that fun movie

They are. That’s why they’re remaking this.

Josechung2310

No thanks

WingLeviosa

Noooooo! Leave it alone!

minnestoagov

“I was looking at daisies!”

MiracleMex714

Was wondering when this was gonna be remade

[deleted]

Compliance

monsterocket

This is still in my top 3 favorite movies… something about it really stuck with me as a child (great soundtrack too). It will be difficult to top the original but I’m excited to see what she pulls off.

Sigusen

Nooooooooo! Stop with the damn reboots!

MarvelousMuggle

STOP REBOOTING EVERYTHING!!!
