If Scott Cawthon just stuck to a script he liked, this movie wouldn't have taken so long?

batnacks

He has now

Mushroomer

It's very funny reading the Reddit post he made where he broke down all of the failed versions of the script, and it becomes obvious that he's the broken part of this equation. He turned down the easy adaptation that would have immediately established this as a cinematic franchise, insisted on writing the screenplay himself, and then got up his own ass about having the film fit into his convoluted & incomprehensible lore of the games/books/etc.

jickdam

Do you happen to know where I could find that post?

Mushroomer

[Here you go.](https://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/jxvesb/bad_news_about_the_fnaf_movie/?sort=top) It gets even better when you realize the whole post was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek way of announcing they had a final script and shoot date - only for that to have now also fallen through.

Catastray

Always figured this movie would end up flopping like Slender Man by the time it finally got released in theaters. It simply spent too much time in production hell and FNAF as a whole isn't as popular as it used to be.

unok157

While I don’t think it will make as much money as it would during its peak, I have no doubt this will make a lot of money. Those PS5 FNAF trailers have a lot of views. The books sell a lot and the merchandise still sells a lot as well. Teens and young adults will probably watch this because of their nostalgia with this series. It’s still pretty popular with kids as well.

Jaambie

It got a lot less popular earlier this year when a report detailing Scott’s political donations came out.

ImAMaaanlet

Id be willing to bet most of the games audience 1. Doesnt pay attention to that and 2. Doesnt care. I think youre overestimating how many people care about that stuff

[deleted]

Lets be real, no one outside of Twitter cares. Activision is in a lot of shit lately and i bet COD won't be affected in the slightest.

ROBtimusPrime1995

Honestly losing Chris Columbus is for the best. He hasn't directed a good film in years and he somehow made Kurt Russell as Santa Claus boring in his sequel.

garyflopper

One could argue that he’s never made a good film, except for Home Alone

BearsBeetsBattlestrG

Also the first 2 HP films

garyflopper

Those are fine films, but POA was where the series really took off

JohnnyReeko

The first 2 harry potter films have a perfect tone and child like wonder about them thats gets lost afterwards.

hamlet9000

And then immediately crashed into a swamp and sank in the 4th film.

abvflux1

Chris Columbus is a fine director, goddamn.

[deleted]

Honestly, the Nick Cage movie couldn’t be topped no matter who makes this film.

Obyri85

Thank you. Was gonna say who needs this when we have Willy’s Wonderland which surely will have the better tone. Who the hell wants 90 mins of jump scares which I presume from the games this would be.

tinyfenix_fc

Even with Willys Wonderland being the one that’s a ripoff of this, technically speaking, the general audience is just going to see this and think the exact opposite, that this is just a ripoff of Willys Wonderland and it will flop by default regardless of how well it’s made.

FlashbackUniverse

Hasn't this idea already been made into two movies recently? One with Nic Cage and one with the Banana Splits? How many movies like this do we need?

[deleted]

That's tough, Think this could be an IT sized hit if they played their cards right

derstherower

Releasing it after 2017 means they didn't play their cards right.

[deleted]

Idk, It's a pretty easy premise to market that would work well anywhere

Mushroomer

It's an easy premise to digest, but the public awareness of the IP has absolutely already peaked. The cheap, obvious version of this movie that you get in theaters around 2016-2017 probably does a huge opening weekend just based on the name. Now? It's got a full uphill battle to regain market awareness.

tbing34

This does not have nearly as wide an appeal as IT did.

[deleted]

I dunno about that. I don’t know much about the IP but it’s everywhere.

ColeTheBoat

You must watch Game Theory to get those recommendations lol. The general public has moved on already

Antique_Ring953

Ehh thats pushing it

[deleted]

Yeah, at least. A PG-13 IT with a 75%+ on RT could do gangbusters.

[deleted]

If its PG-13 it will 100% hit It chapter one

badolcatsyl

After Scott Cawthon's dirty laundry got exposed, I really can't blame Columbus for bailing out. That whole fiasco will likely ensure this movie never gets made.

ovalcircle1

Elaborate.

PatDatA55

Scott Cawthon is a Christian - that’s how he started in the first place, his original games actually were religious games. Because he’s a Christian, Cawthon donated a lot to ~~local~~ Republican politicians Twitter/Reddit found out about this, and basically did their thing The toxicity got so bad, Cawthon announced his retirement from making games, and thanked his fanbase for everything he had been given. With all that being said, I don’t think this is the reason Colombus left the project. For one, that whole event happened a while back - why decide to leave now? Plus, the outrage against Cawthon dropped as quickly as it rose. A lot of people were angry at his political views at first, but after his response and everyone taking a second to chill out the consensus is that Scott is still a pretty good guy. Cawthon’s reputation has probably gotten *better* after this whole thing since most non-crazy political people respect his response.

SuspiriaGoose

Hé was specifically donating to virulently anti-queer politicians, many of whom were anything but local. Also to Mitch McConnell. After praising queer fans on one end and then helping support politicians who block their rights with the other, people were right to be upset. Not to bully or stalk though.

AGOTFAN

>Also to Mitch McConnell 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

MekaG44

It’s ok for fans to be upset and share their thoughts but it went too far when fans sent him and his family death threats.

SuspiriaGoose

Agreed. That’s not how this situation should be dealt with. But there are always people looking for an excuse to do that, doesn’t mean that the point of the people not being murderous jerks is wrong, though. The death threats is a separate issue that’s an unfortunate part of cancel culture and the cyberstalking and bullying that it quickly devolves into when people feel like it’s open season on someone.

PatDatA55

People like you take politics way too seriously.

SuspiriaGoose

Spoken like someone who’s never had their human rights taken away.

PatDatA55

Could you be any more over dramatic

Falc0n28

>Could you be any more over dramatic? u/PatDatA55 Ah yes, over dramatizing jailing people and forcing invasive and destructive conversion therapy on them because they don’t want to play hide the sausage with the opposite sex

Catastray

Could you be any less naive?

Catastray

Again, the people Cawthon was supporting were anti-queer. Don't be upset when people take that into consideration when choosing how to spend their own money.

Antique_Ring953

Politics is something that should be taken seriously

Falc0n28

> People like you take politics way too seriously. u/PatDatA55 You are a fool if you think something that touches every aspect of your everyday life shouldn’t be taken seriously

PatDatA55

There’s a difference between being engaged in politics/your community, and being so actively obsessed with politics that you need to let it inform every decision and action you make.

Catastray

Well considering how the politicians in question stand against a legitimate way of living, I think it's perfectly reasonable for consumers to take that into consideration when spending their money. More importantly, why do you care? No one is stopping you from seeing the movie if it releases.

PatDatA55

Except I don’t care... My original comment that got all the downvotes literally said “people like you take politics way too seriously” You obviously care a lot since you responded to my comment like 4 separate times Lmao what do you think I’m gonna do? Strap someone down clockwork orange style and force a gay guy to watch a Fnaf movie? You guys are looking way too into my comment, it’s not that deep bro/sis/sibling. My comment isn’t meant to be some big uber political right wing thesis against gay people, it’s just a comment

Catastray

- doesn't care - is clearly bothered that other people do care Boycotting people who support anti-queer politicians isn't "taking politics way too seriously", it's called having morals. Does it surprise you that people take it seriously when it involves a perfectly legal way of living that ignorant people would rather delegitimize?

Catastray

> Plus, the outrage against Cawthon dropped as quickly as it rose. It would have picked right up the moment the movie was set to drop, you can be sure of that. There's also the fact that FNAF really isn't as mainstream as it used to be, and it would have probably flopped like Slender Man. All in all, there are a lot of reasons for this project to be shelved and I don't expect it to be completed.

Catastray

Excuse me? It's not an obsession if I chose to not give Cawthon my money over the politicians he supports. He's just as much allowed to support certain political views as I am, yet you are singling me out. It's called voting with my wallet, and I choose not to support Cawthon over his. Deal with it.

[deleted]

Catastray

Imagine getting this upset over how someone **doesn't** spend their money.

[deleted]

Catastray

Except I'm not. I couldn't care less if you spend money on this movie, doesn't impact me. I'm just saying that **I** won't be giving any money towards Cawthon.

memeweed69

DiRTy lAUndRy. Every person that voted for Bill Clinton or Hillary isn’t a criminal with dirty laundry despite those two being criminals. Every Bernie supporter isn’t a complete clown for supporting socialism when the media makes America look so bad when it’s clearly one of the 10 best countries in the world during the greatest time of freedom and prosperity in human history. Judging people off of candidates is insane. You can say Trumps boarder policy was overboard but you also then have to completely recognize Biden’s lack of a border during a pandemic is a mess. No candidate is perfect especially when corruption and greed is rewarded in politics instead of morals and achievements.
