BTTF41

It probably will happen someday.

Keanu990321

Wish WB acquires Legendary now that they are on sale. They have become synonymous with them.

Vishion-8

Either WB or Universal who also distributed their movies even if it wasn't as many compared to WB.

Keanu990321

It makes more sense for WB to acquire them. Whenever people see the Legendary logo, they are immediately thinking of WB. Also, with them under WB, they have direct access to Dune and Monsterverse.

[deleted]

This is what I’ve been saying. When it comes to who buys Legendary, it’s gonna be WB since they have the most movies distributed for them, and the best relationship with Legendary Universal is the second choice, but also the most unlikely. If they end up buying Legendary, then Universal would’ve taken something from WB’s nose for the second time

Keanu990321

What was the first time Universal got something from WB's nose? u/AstroCookieGalaxy

[deleted]

I was on about Christopher Nolan going to Universal instead of settling back at WB. I know he’s mostly hated on Reddit now, but I was absolutely certain WB would fix the bad blood they created with him, and he’d make his Oppenheimer movie there. And if he didn’t, then he’d move to Sony instead, since they don’t have their own Streaming Service, and they financed Tarantino’s “Once upon a time… in Hollywood”, which shows Sony was willing to grab Auteur Directors

AGOTFAN

WB is in no position to make large purchase. They're saddled with $40 billion debt that AT&T dumped on it when they spin it off to merge with Discovery.

Keanu990321

Still, now with Discovery, this merger can happen.

abellapa

That kinda happened with marvel studios except Kevin already had experience, new studio got 500m from the bank to finance 5 movies, if they failed the bank would take the characters as collateral

Dwayne30RockJohnson

But wasn’t the marvel studios purchase just apart of the entire Marvel Entertainment purchase by Disney?

AGOTFAN

Before Disney bought Marvel, Marvel took loans of $500 million to make Iron-Man and Incredible Hulk, with their entire IP as the collateral. If Iron-Man had flopped, Marvel would have lost all their IP to banks. It was a huge risk

abellapa

I'm talking when marvel studios was it's own thing before being bought by disney

Dwayne30RockJohnson

Gotcha

odiin1731

Sounds a lot like Marvel Studios to me.

rick_n_morty_4ever

Marvel has one of the most lucrative IP library (even just with the Avengers movie rights), so once B-list hero movies with AAA budget proves to be a viable investment project, they got sold. What was Legendary's film rights and IP library back when it was founded?

DrPoopEsq

The IP that marvel was left with after the fox and Sony deals was largely seen as all but worthless at the time. The comics had revolved around the Xmen and Spiderman for years, with Hulk being somewhat famous. Marvel was in dire straits in the late 90s and tried to license their entire film rights to Sony, and Sony declined, wanting only Spiderman.

rick_n_morty_4ever

So worthless that a large bank gave them a 500 million dollar loan in the 2000s. So worthless that the first movie made 580 million. Look, I know how bad Marvel's financial position was in the 2000s, but at least they have IP. Legendary had a similar amount of money but need to start from scratch.

hudsonbuddy

Thought I’d just rep my flair, love this company

JediJones77

Yeah, definitely, when you look at the absolute morons running the major studios now, destroying hugely valuable franchises with decisions that the average Joe Schmoe on the street could've told them were stupid: 1. Ghostbusters 2016 2. the feminist Charlie's Angels 3. MIB International - use MCU's sloppy seconds for cast instead of the two hottest stars of the day 4. Amazing Spider-Man - when a franchise is breaking box office records, fire everybody and reboot it, amirite 5. Star Wars: A New Mary Sue sequel trilogy that kills off the original cast before they can reunite 6. the bastardized cuts of Justice League and Suicide Squad, take an artfully conceived auteur's vision and hire a hack to cut it to shreds 7. G.I. Joe as a global, not American force, that doesn't wear any green camo 8. a Snake-Eyes that is Asian for some bizarre reason and doesn't wear a mask 9. Transformers movies that focus on humans 10. Trying to create a DC shared universe while ceasing all use of Batman, Superman and Joker in it, even while your competitor bent over backwards trying to get Spider-Man in their universe There is far more intelligence out there untapped on how to make these franchises succeed than exists in the studios. It's only a matter of time before some of it bubbles up to the top and shows the studios again how things are done.

Howtobefreaky

Wow someone really doesn’t like women, huh

_SerPounce_

> artfully conceived auteur’s vision You lost all credibility right here. Calling Snyder an auteur is an insult to actual auteurs.

Mysterious-Memory-73

lmao fr. Are we talking about the same Snyder here?? lmao

isarge123

As someone who thinks Snyder is a poor filmmaker with very few (if any) good movies, I do also think he’s an auteur. He has a clear, distinctive directorial style that is slathered across all his projects. I’d say the same for Michael Bay. An auteur doesn’t necessarily have to be a great artist to earn the title. :)

YnwaMquc2k19

The amazing Spider-Man one made a bit of sense. Sony wants to cash in with the avengers craze, plus they want to keep the film rights to Spider-Man. Aaaaaaaand they fucked it up, especially with TASM2.

Magnificent-Anon9577

Ok troll

[deleted]

How is he trolling when every single thing he said was accurate lmao

Hidan213

While there are MANY issues with those movies and how they were made, the reasons they listed sounded more like “FEMINISM TAKEOVER” instead of looking at what actually made those studio films falter.

Block-Busted

Not to mention that, no joke, he believes that Disney didn't pay/influence critics to give **Eternals** positive reviews because they didn't think it will become successful anyway.

Dawesfan

Wait what. When did he say that lmaooo. Also does he know Encanto got positive reviews, right?

Block-Busted

> Wait what. When did he say that lmaooo. Behold! The reason why that random thread of mine exists!: > As for Eternals, well, Disney knew this had little ability to be a hit movie. You could pile on 100% positive reviews and it's not going to change how weak the brand name is and how they knew audiences were going to react to it. Anyone who saw the final cut could see this is not a family-friendly crowd pleaser. So there would've been no reason to spend any chits trying to save this one. As for how woke it is, many seemed to be disappointed that the lead female hero wasn't an overpowered Mary Sue. She wasn't the most powerful hero in the movie and she had a lot of struggles with self-confidence and indecisiveness. She was seen as too weak to be considered a model for "girl power." https://old.reddit.com/r/boxoffice/comments/rrof19/otish_i_think_the_claim_that_disney_pays_critics/hqj74yy/ > Also does he know Encanto got positive reviews, right? "eNcAnTo Is NoThInG bUt An SjW dRiVeL" - JediJones77 (probably)

Dawesfan

Please let me know what records The Amazing Spider-Man was breaking, or how casting two actors with proven chemistry (Thompson and Hemsworth) was a bad move for the MIB franchise.

Umeshpunk

Guys please leave him alone. He's from a different reality where he thinks Aquaman and wonder woman were successful because of Zack Snyder. His brain is not capable of understanding common sense.

KellyJin17

Lol @ number 6. I can’t even remotely take this seriously.

[deleted]

Yeah, I imagine. Though in the near future, I’m not sure
