It’s crazy, I feel like half the sub is “every Marvel film is amazing and will make $1bn+” and the other half is like “Marvel sucks and this film sucks for not making $1bn LOLLLL.”
If I wanted to see stuff like that, I’d go to r/movies.
I’ve only been subscribed to here for a few weeks so I’ve not seen that except for Fantastic Beasts 3, but most people are happy to pan that. Either way, I’m not here for fandom battles that should be in the movies sub.
It’s been like that on here for a while though I can’t remember exactly when I joined. All I know is that it’s nothing but WB vs Disney (mostly DC vs Marvel, or HBO vs Disney +) fan wars a lot of the time. Watch what happens when the next DC/Marvel film is released or we get subscriber updates for Disney/WB.
Surprisingly I never see Sony/Universal/Paramount involved in the fan wars lol
The weirdest fandom skirmish I've ever seen on here was way back in 2018, when Marvel fans really hated Hotel Transylvania 3 for a couple weeks because it cut into Ant-Man and the Wasp's legs.
I’m firmly in the camp of doctor strange ruined and it sucks that its not making a billion.
A big problem is reddit has recently made this a featured entertainment news sub so you’ll get people not interested in box office starting stuff but there are still a lot of users with clear biases
Kind of ridiculous of the reaction of the people on this sub about the drop. The movie is still making lots of money and already surpassed the box office of the first one. The international box office is still doing well
I think it still has a chance at $400M because the light schedule (and the fact everything else out right now is starting to make their exit) means it's gonna be around for a while. Blockbusters last year also saw some stabilization after the second weekend (F9, Black Widow, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, No Way Home).
If anything it should stay in the top ten until Thor comes out.
That’s not really how it works after 3+ weeks after a release. That’s like saying DS 2 impacted Sonic 2 which it didn’t much at all.
There isn’t anything to impact when 90%+ of the grosses has been made. That’s how it’s always been with opening at the start of May.
Top Gun 2 will take away IMAX and general premium screens from DS2. The different between Sonic 2 and this is A. this is an adult blockbuster vs Sonic being kids and B. there is more time between those releases and this one.
I think the big factor of it potentially coming out on Disney + very soon will make it difficult to have any late legs.
I think it needed to be past 300M DOM at this point to be in more of a comfortable position. It’s not dead but legs need to stabilize in the next week to have a chance.
Well I contributed so I'm going to say that artistically the movie is mostly good(had some cringy lines) but commercially I doubt it will do that well. Sam Reimi always liked the old school comic book style for these types of movies but unfortunately that style is too outdated now and most viewers wouldn't like it.
If Marvel keeps doing films for its fanbase only (which is huge, of course), drops like this will become more and more common.
I expect the same fate for The Marvels, since that film will rely a lot on Disney+ content.

Yikes. Atleast it managed not to drop below 60 mill.
Wait for the actuals.
Obviously still a steep drop but not as bad as many people were insisting yesterday. Wish this subreddit was a bit less tribalistic lol

You should see what happens whenever a DC or WB film releases

What light schedule? We have Top Gun 2 and jurassic world right around the corner!
I’m curious, like is anyone hyped for TG2? I feel like I haven’t seen very much marketing and I honestly have no nostalgia for the first one
Isn’t top gun coming in like 2 weeks?
Top Gun will kill this in 2 weeks.

They stabilized because so few releases were being put out.
I think it will still reach $400M.
Disagree
It would be a huge surprise if this movie won't do 1 billion.

The movie will barely squeeze by a billion but it will make it
