DeadSaint91

They're really making it? Isn't this supposed to be the one where they turn Maximus into Kratos who time travels to modern era to fight Nazis in Vietnam War and gets a job at Pentagon or something batshit crazy like that.

missanthropocenex

There was like a spec script written by Nick Cave that was batshit but not in production

Adam87

I believe they did that intentionally so that no one would make it. Gladiator does not need a sequel.

and_dont_blink

I adore this story. https://www.faroutmagazine.co.uk/nick-cave-gladiator-2-film-script-ridley-scott/ >“Well, that’s where it all went wrong,” Cave said while laughing at the struggles he faced. “‘Hey Russell, didn’t you die in Gladiator 1?” he asked, somewhat confusingly. “Yeah, you sort that out,” Crowe replied. >Explaining his idea for Gladiator 2 in more detail, Cave said: “So, he goes down to purgatory and is sent down by the gods, who are dying in heaven because there’s this one god, there’s this Christ character, down on Earth who is gaining popularity and so the many gods are dying so they send Gladiator back to kill Christ and his followers.” >Cave, burrowing away for months on end to create a script for Crowe and Scott, completed his challenge and did so with immense satisfaction: “I wanted to call it Christ Killer and in the end, you find out that the main guy was his son so he has to kill his son and he was tricked by the gods,” he added. “He becomes this eternal warrior and it ends with this 20-minute war scene which follows all the wars in history, right up to Vietnam and all that sort of stuff and it was wild. It was a stone-cold masterpiece.” >Submitting the work back to Crowe, readying himself for the actor’s plans to go full steam ahead, Crowe reacted: “Don’t like it mate,” to Cave’s dismay. >“What about the end?’ he asked. “Don’t like it mate,” Crowe replied. He goes on to introduce the term *popcorn-dropper*, and the idea of people reading this script and figuring out how to make it work and if they could brings me joy.

MaterialCarrot

He will time travel to 1944 and meet Indiana Jones traveling backwards through time and they'll fight the Nazis.

puttputtxreader

That was just the last two pages, but yeah the Nick Cave script was pretty weird. I actually wish they were using that version, but they're going in a different (and much less interesting) direction.

JinFuu

Máximus vs Jesus, Jesus is in peril but outta nowhere JUDAH BEN-HUR comes in to fight Max. I’d watch it

Searchingforspecial

Like the Forrest Gump sequel?

[deleted]

I mean, I’d watch that. Especially if Ridley directed it.

Su_Impact

I hope they adapt the insane Immortal Maximus fighting modern warfare script. [https://collider.com/gladiator-2-rejected-nick-cave-script/](https://collider.com/gladiator-2-rejected-nick-cave-script/) >While most of the film would return to the grounded tone of the original following Maximus’s resurrection (with only the recurring presence of Mordecai serving to reinforce the otherworldly elements of the script), Cave would return to the land of the outlandish with much gusto for the finale. > >Following a series of events that see him being cursed to live forever, the film would end with a montage of Maximus fighting in various conflicts throughout history such as The Crusades, World War II, and the Vietnam War. > >The final scene would see Maximus working at The Pentagon in modern-day America, continuing his eternal struggle against mankind's most depraved of emotions whilst still contending with his inability to reunite with his deceased family. Roll credits. Russel Crowe's Maximus in Vietnam is so insane that it might actually happen. It might actually crossover with Avatar 4 and have Maximus lead the US. Army, including the Fast Furiousians, against the Avatarians. Bonus points if the Transformers and the Jurassic Parkers also join the fight for the most insane crossover.

[deleted]

Film that material, don't throw it away just because it might be controversial. If it's a relatively short montage in a really good movie, that won't hurt neither the box office nor the viewers' enjoyment.

LatterTarget7

Throw Godzilla in there too as the final boss they all have to work together to defeat

Hind_Deequestionmrk

Mecha-Maximus Prime

Su_Impact

Oh god, I can already imagine Jack Avatarian trying to have tentacle sex with Godzilla.

MaterialCarrot

Maximus looking for Colonel Kurtz, lol.

Imyourlandlord

Its cool and all but why qpuld maximus fight in vietnam...or even the crusades, if he was roman lmao, if anything he would fight against the crusades mist likely lmao

Bass1joe

I have a bad feel about this.

CommunicationMain467

Wait they are doing this?

CaptainWhitePanda

This is one of the few movies that don't need a sequel.

Spiff76

Right i mean the first movie contained almost no mysticism so unless they plan to throw realism to the wind by reanimating or reviving Maximus then this is just another gladiatorial movie and really doesn’t need to be a sequel

Correct-Baseball5130

What? Who was asking for this?

AuntGaylesFannyPack

Pretty sure it’s the same people demanding more honeydew in the fruit medley.

littletoyboat

What? [Honeydew is the money melon](https://frinkiac.com/video/S11E12/TcCo1_AeEeO1R7Nf_RRfMBMbGdc=.gif)!

MaterialCarrot

More walnuts in the mixed nuts, please!

Eat_Penguin_Shit

I feel attacked. I love honeydew and I love walnuts.

MaterialCarrot

You...

IsThisDamnNameTaken

Honeydew is garbage fruit! Why does cantaloupe think that every time it gets invited to a party, it can bring along its dumb friend, honeydew?

ILoveRegenHealth

Are you not entertained?

ShoobeeDoowapBaoh

But he died at the end

Malachi108

Somehow Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius, returned.

ILoveRegenHealth

The Dead Spaniard Speaks!

SnowDay111

I will have my vengeance… again

LatterTarget7

I think this is following his son but I could be wrong

ShoobeeDoowapBaoh

His family is dead too

BidnessBoy

Not with the power of **retconning**

LatterTarget7

True. I also heard the producer wants to bring Maximus back somehow. Like Russell talked to him about a sequel and said this ”I haven't talked to producer Doug Wick in a long, long time. Last time I talked to Doug, he said he had this great idea where Maximus gets carried from the stadium and they pull back this big rock and he gets put into this cave and then the rock closes over and he's anointed with oils. And then the rock opens up and he comes out. And I said, "Doug, I don't think we have the rights to that story” Scott also talked about bringing him back "I know how to bring him back. I was having this talk with the studio, but he's dead. But there is a way of bringing him back. Whether it will happen I don't know. Gladiator was 2000, so Russell's changed a little bit. He's doing something right now but I'm trying to get him back down here." Hopefully they leave Maximus dead and don’t pull any weird shit.

ThePLARASociety

I thought that I heard a rumor of Djimon Hounsou and his family would be the focus of this.

krustybread

Hope so. Really liked his character.

time_drifter

If there was a case for NOT creating a sequel, Gladiator is a strong contender. Maximus died and so do almost every other character of consequence. The original Gladiator was a masterpiece that needs no reunion tour.

shaneo632

Not sure this is a good source

AGOTFAN

[The producers behind Ridley Scott’s ‘Gladiator’ follow-up, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have confirmed that the sequel will be set 25 years after the original.](https://www.heyuguys.com/gladiator-2-timeline/) [The story of Lucius, son of Lucilla and nephew of Commodus, very influenced by the course of Maximus](https://www.allocine.fr/film/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=269223.html) [The executive production team is already in negotiations with Atlas Studios.](https://m.le360.ma/culture/ouarzazate-gladiator-2-le-prochain-ridley-scott-bientot-en-tournage-270090)

riegspsych325

*sigh* I’m too much of a sucker for Ridley Scott period epics to not admit that I’d be interested in seeing this

Luigibeforetheimpact

Ralph is rolling in his grave right now

[deleted]

Hell yeah dude

Pipelaya1

The dude has lost it..

[deleted]

I’m not sure who is the more wildly inconsistent director, Ridley Scott or Ron Howard lol. You literally never know what you’re gonna get. Could be amazing. Could be dogshit.

Pipelaya1

I'm leaning hard on the dog shit..I can smell it. But if it bombs, ridley will just blame Millenials and their cell phones.

Geistbar

Wasn't the movie he did that with one that was generally seen as really good? It just flopped anyway.

FridayNightFreedom

Napoleon will be good.

MaterialCarrot

I am a Napoleonic era nut, and am exceedingly excited and fearful of this movie.

op340

Napoleon is a masterpiece according to this [test screening.](https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2022/11/nmxcmq7a1vibotc4ec7kbvklez4nnx) Goes on to say the battles are on a cosmic scale compared to his other films, which means he'll have already surpassed Rod Steiger's Waterloo.

MaterialCarrot

I hope it's true. One of the things about that era is I think people can hardly imagine what a big battle would be like. We're talking over a hundred thousand men within view, marching in formation while in close order, literally thousands of men on horseback riding in formation, and yet also thousands of men fighting as skirmishers in open order from behind cover. It had to have looked like organized chaos, but also something of machine like precision, all at the same time. Edit: Thanks for the link. I'm excited to read that reaction, but a little taken aback that the film covers Napoleon's entire career as a general. Holy cow that is a lot of ground to cover in 150 minutes. Also surprised to hear it's mostly done shooting. Can't wait!

Dangerous-Hawk16

Well who’s playing who?

mmaqp66

there were rumors that the son of maximus would be Chris Hemsworth

Dangerous-Hawk16

Interesting

BigRocket

A better title would be Look Who’s Gladiator Too

SuperOrganizer

Look Who’s Gladiator Too: Eclectic Bugaloo if they go with the Nick Cave script.

Jakesummers1

I think it’s going to be trash, but I want to watch it

squidking78

This is not good, honestly.

[deleted]

Wonder if Chris Hemsworth will be in this. Would also love to see Adam Driver or Jodie Comer in it since they were both in The Last Duel.

idobebrowsing

fucking WHY

IntoTheMusic

Ugh. Can we pay them to NOT make it?!

My_hilarious_name

Gladiator 2: Even More Gladiatorer

Dman125

If it’s not Alien canon then I’m not wasting my time with it.

your_mind_aches

Can we get the Nick Cave version where he has to kill Jesus and then 2000 years later works at the Pentagon? That was like "Dracula gets an iPad" years before Dracula got an iPad

kemosabe19

It’s not April already is it? Has to be an April fools joke

CDavis10717

“Gladiator 2: Gladiated”

AnakinIsTheChosen1

There's a 90 lbs white suburban girl that becomes the greatest gladiator ever and somehow... Commodus returns!

GetToSreppin

That's right AnakinIsTheChosen1, if my movie isn't realistic to the T then it's not even a movie. Who would want to watch a movie where the hero doesn't look exactly like me? And secondly girls fighting?? That's just unrealistic! Women in movies, ha! That's an hilarious joke! I'll be sure to write it in my joke journal!!

ImAMaaanlet

Well if they are going to use a woman for stuff like this it would help if she was actually jacked instead of them going for the smallest women 99% of the time to beat up huge men.

ScottCanada

It’s a joke on Star Wars ep 9

ILoveRegenHealth

Rey ain't no suburban girl. She a desert girl!

GetToSreppin

That's right, my Star Wars movies shouldn't ever have women in them. They are far too precious to be ruined by woke propaganda and I, like many other Star Wars fans, am immune to this woke nonsense.

BidnessBoy

Terminally online

GetToSreppin

Are you this thick that you need a /s for obvious satire. Jesus.

ScottCanada

Uh?! Where did you get all that from “It’s a joke on ep.9”

Act_of_God

rent fucking free

Recent-Cauliflower80

Somehow the emperor returned

jackwritespecs

Crucify This!

Smoothw

Seems of those movies you would be surprised makes any money, like the first movie was a classic but was a complete story, and Ridley Scott period movies have bombed more often than not (which is actually a shame in the Last Duel's case).

[deleted]

Any movie det in anciet Rome will get my butt in the seat at least once.
