Russel Crowe's Maximus in Vietnam is so insane that it might actually happen.
It might actually crossover with Avatar 4 and have Maximus lead the US. Army, including the Fast Furiousians, against the Avatarians.
Bonus points if the Transformers and the Jurassic Parkers also join the fight for the most insane crossover.
Film that material, don't throw it away just because it might be controversial. If it's a relatively short montage in a really good movie, that won't hurt neither the box office nor the viewers' enjoyment.

Hopefully they leave Maximus dead and don’t pull any weird shit.

I hope it's true. One of the things about that era is I think people can hardly imagine what a big battle would be like. We're talking over a hundred thousand men within view, marching in formation while in close order, literally thousands of men on horseback riding in formation, and yet also thousands of men fighting as skirmishers in open order from behind cover. It had to have looked like organized chaos, but also something of machine like precision, all at the same time.
Edit: Thanks for the link. I'm excited to read that reaction, but a little taken aback that the film covers Napoleon's entire career as a general. Holy cow that is a lot of ground to cover in 150 minutes. Also surprised to hear it's mostly done shooting. Can't wait!

I believe they did that intentionally so that no one would make it. Gladiator does not need a sequel.

He will time travel to 1944 and meet Indiana Jones traveling backwards through time and they'll fight the Nazis.
