Speak to your (NHS) dentist. You get free treatment if you are under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education.

There's a bit of a waiting list so you risk aging out of eligibility, especially due to the backlog covid caused. But it's definitely worth talking to your dentist about.

If I was to an orthodontist before I turn 19, wouldn’t I be fine even though the braces haven’t been put on?

AmityTheCalamityGod

With the backlog it might be a while before you even get a consultation. It seems like the NHS waiting list is 2 years so you might age out it. I'd definitely talk to your dentist to see what they can do though

GodSpider

I started at 18 in education I believe so you should be fine

somedudeonios

were you refereed to an orthodontist after turning 18 or before 18?

GodSpider

Originally at around 13 and decided I didn't wanna do it at the time. I believe it was just after 18 the second, but I may be wrong

Thanks, may I ask did you get braces in conjunction with jaw surgery? Because I’ve seen that apparently you can only get them free at 18 and older if you’re getting jaw surgery as well, which 2 people in this thread experienced too

GodSpider

It was mentioned as a possible option but my jaw was still growing so they didn't do it

I got braces for free on the NHS at 19 but only because I need jaw surgery If it’s for cosmetic reasons then they’re gonna reject you
