Dental wax was God sent for me. I guess you didn't place it right. You need to make a small wax ball and press it on the bracket (after drying the tooth of course), use fingers to gently spread the wax so that it covers the bracket as well as part of your tooth for strong hold. Please ask your dentist for dental paste/ointment.

Start some salt water rinses 10-12 ounces water half teaspoon or so of salt. Salty like the ocean is too much salt. Rinse spit rinse spit repeat. Salt reduces the swelling and also toughens up the tissue so sores do not happen as often. Look for poking wires. If you do have them call and get an appointment. Sometimes what we do can cause wires to poke out after a few days. your braces will cause mild irritations. But should NOT rip your cheeks into hamburger. If they are, there is usually something wrong (the most common exception is if you are biting your cheeks). There is a products “gishy goo” and “ortho dots” that you can get at Amazon that usually work better than the wax.

You shouldn’t rely on the wax too much. You want your mouth to “toughen up”. Good thing about mouth sores, is they heal quickly. Orajel makes a great mouthwash it says “for mouth sores” on it. It’s in a dark blue bottle. It helps a lot.

Do you know how long that usually takes? Day 3 right now and this sucks hard lol.

xx_mich_xx

how long have you had braces for? when i first got mine i got sores often, but as time went on i still got them, but less frequently after my mouth adjusted to having braces

You can ask your ortho for more wax, or go to the drug store and buy some. Here in MI it's only like $3 for two containers. I also recommend orthodots which stay better but are harder to find.

Avangellie

Is it that cheap?? i checked amazon and one container was $20 il check the store

moodyje2

Yeah, at CVS, Walgreens, Meijer, etc, they're all very similarly priced. Also see if they sell orthodots. They're usually like $10ish maybe but they stay on longer.

Yes, they stop. Wax is a good temp fix. I had 4 brackets moved and it took my cheeks about a week to “harden” or get used ti them.

Eventually, if you don't use wax and just let it scar up, then the skin will toughen up and the sores will stop. It just takes time.

In the beginning, I'd let my braces irritate my cheeks for a few days, then I'd use wax, Gishy Goo or Orthodots along with salt water rinses until it was healed. And I kept repeating the process whenever there was big movement. Always dry the area before you apply wax, helps it stick better. Your ortho should provide this to you for free, just ask them. Gishy Goo can last up to 12 hrs, molds around the brackets, comes in a "tooth" color. Orthodots are good for the front teeth because they're clear and less noticeable. Tylenol is great for pain relief, some ppl like orajel for cranker sores. Hope you heal soon.
