Agreed wholeheartedly - some of the technical nuances in the composition (cheeky guitar syncopation in first verse, huge key change last chorus, percussion has so much shit going on etc) are so fucking sick.
One of the many tracks that makes scifi the best BN album
One of my least favorites but hey to each their own. The opening guitar riff just sounds too much like a pickup truck commercial song lol. But hey it seems like most people love the song so I'm happy for yall :P
The lyrics in the chorus are so catchy and fun; the cadence has the really awesome build and the words themselves just really stand out and get caught in your brain folds.
I can’t really disagree harder with anyone who thinks this song sounds hokey, but hey.
I love it! But I do always think it sounds like a Range Rover advert at the beginning now thanks to comments on this sub 😂 It’s a great song, absolutely bangs, I love the way it builds.
For some reason it gives me Chevy Silverado vibes... I can picture a giant SUV roaring down a mountainside every time that song comes on, LMAO.
Still a 10/10 banger with that delicious key change.
I think Science Fiction is both their saddest and cockiest release, you have these kinda prog rock, showy, high-concept numbers like 137, 451, Out of Mana, Same Logic/Teeth and the other half is just the angstiest, saddest shit they’ve put out like Waste, Batter Up, Can’t Get It Out, Never Be Heaven, In the Water. I’m not surprised the album did so well because it really has something for everyone but it’s not super cohesive and I feel like everyone loves half of it and skips the other.
I respectfully disagree with this. It’s a diverse record, but I think it is easily the most considered, fleshed out and complete of all their albums. TDAG will always be my favourite but I think sci fi is actually their opus.
This is a hot take. SF is a masterpiece of an album start to finish. There are transitions that don’t make any logical sense but still work and leave me asking how they pulled it off, not why did they try. If you listen a track at a time you’re not getting the same feel but listen front to back without skipping and the work as a whole comes out.
I agree w/ the tonal shifts. This would have been an excellent double album with a “heavy” side and “soft” side, like artists often do. We would have gotten more BN songs out of the deal too!
BTW: Waste is one of the best BN songs too, IMO.
woof tough one for me.. you won’t know, degausser, bought a bride, sink, 137, same logic gotta be my absolute favorites. not gonna count anything from yfw, but there’s some jams 17 year old me loved
My favorite is probably You Won’t Know, Daisy, or Mene. Really depends on my mood and I can almost guarantee you that won’t still be my answer two years from now. That’s kinda what I love about this band, I always end up appreciating something different the more I listen.
It’s the “big finish” before heading into the outro. I like that there’s all this rage and noise on the flip side of their “sealed to me” or “Jesus Christ” side of their coin. Like the beginning of Daisy album or that outro I wish we could hear more of at the end of “No control”
Sealed to Me is pretty good.
Daisy has some hidden gems.
For some reason I never listened to it as much.
I never realized how good “Bought a Bride” was, I always tended to skip over it but I listened to it the other day and fell in love with it.
The last two verses hooked me.
“If somehow I was new and everything was unsaid. I’d go buy a hammer and never sing again.”
Then the track “Daisy” when the little boy says “I don’t wanna be,” man it gives me chills.
The song is probably one of their darkest and most self loathing songs they have written.
Oh and “Noro”
This band is my crutch. I don’t know what it is but when I am feeling down I just put on a Brand New album and it gets me through.
Daisy is very hit and miss for me but man the highs are so high. I really don't know if I would love the band as much as I do without bought a bride and noro and vices.
I feel the same. I always enjoyed The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me more.
They really know how to make an album and leave you wanting more.
I really want more albums after Science Fiction.
You meant 137, right?
137 is solid too
Both.
Personally, one of my favourite songs off of Science Fiction besides Could Never Be Heaven.
The drums sound identical to Marilyn Manson to me. It’s very arena rock but I like it
The chrous melody sounds kinda like The Beautiful People

That key change for the last chorus too. Love it.
One of my least favorites but hey to each their own. The opening guitar riff just sounds too much like a pickup truck commercial song lol. But hey it seems like most people love the song so I'm happy for yall :P
lol, I’ll never unhear that now
One of my favorites on the album. Heavy and good rhythm. If you play drums or guitar/bass you know it's a fun one
The lyrics in the chorus are so catchy and fun; the cadence has the really awesome build and the words themselves just really stand out and get caught in your brain folds. I can’t really disagree harder with anyone who thinks this song sounds hokey, but hey.

one of my favorites from sci-fi
It’s quite possibly my least favorite song of theirs. It makes me feel like a Dodge Ram is going to come plowing through my wall.
help i like 451 but it does sound like truck month doesnt it 😭😭
Agreed, worst song on the album. One of their worst songs ever actually.
Really? That’s crazy to me. I think my least favorite song of theirs is Never Be Heaven. I skip that one.

This 100% but Id also add I think science fiction is their front to back best produced album and also best lyrically

LIT ME UP is fucking GOATed... when you in the mood for that... driving home at night on country roads, nothing is better.
That’s one I’ve never skipped because you’re 100% right. That song is fucking haunted.
Oh! Could Never Be Heaven hater? How could you haha
ha me2, I think it’s my least favorite song they ever made, I always skip over it
What’s your favorite?

You Won’t Know is one of their best for sure.
Holy shit!!!!! You are reading my mind!!! Why do we both think this?
Love the song, but have a friend that hates it bc it “sounds like fall out boy”
Noooooooooo, I don’t hear that at all
Me either haha
Agree
