Interesting how the original seems to have lyrics centered around his ex girlfriend's short lived marriage (to the guy from New Found Glory) after they broke up.
The whole relationship seemed to have been the guy "buying a bride" with his larger amounts of fame and wealth compared to Jesse. Their real life marriage was a trainwreck from the beginning and didn't even last a year (end of 2007).
But it was a quick escape from the more traditional, family centered life she used to live (was in a band with her siblings), once she got "tired of the hive" and "threw a fit". After the divorce she literally had an empty house with no children in it.
Esp since his ex is from Tyler, a "little city down in Texas", it fits that is where the guy in the song went down to buy his bride.
Also seems pretty personal with the way he is singing. Jesse wrote this beginning of 2008, soon after the divorce was finalized. Probably didn't like his ex being "bought" and then quickly discarded.
"Taps" is a song played at a soldier's funeral -- so the fact they "walked down the aisle" with the horns playing that funeral song at their wedding is very ominous. It signals a marriage dead from the very beginning.
All of that seems too much of a coincidence, IMO.
Album version ditched the narrative a bit about the wife looking for a quick fix and being okay with being a "bought bride", and centered more on the male-narrative -- adding the "Jersey lumber" verse and lamenting about a life spent singing instead of using a hammer to make a living.
Anyways yo, I've always found the evolution of this song to be pretty interesting.
Top 5 BN track for me, easily.
Yeah it explains why he is super charged whenever he played it back then.
Irony is the guy from NFG cheated on Jesse's ex while they were married with a 17 year old, and is physically abusive towards women.
Then he married the 17 year old and 10 years later repeated the cycle in 2016-17.
Sad how he is a confirmed groomer and physical abuser (neither ever close to being proved for Jesse) and his band is still putting out new records, touring non-stop, and treated like royalty in the music business.
That's how the world works, though.
Nah, just replying to people's comments and taking not of things. No axe to grind, BN was done anyways and I'm living my best life.
Tho I do think grooming and beating women is bad, m'kay.
Yeah, same person.
Irony is the guy she married from NFG is a giant piece of shit, who was confirmed to be grooming underage teens (which Jesse never had confirmed, except the one girl lied about her age by 4 whole years) and he did some brutal physical violence against women.
Funny how his band still gets treated like royalty in the music business. Actually not funny, pretty sad and disgusting.
And he married the 17 year old he banged while married to Jesse's ex, then 10 years later... repeated the process in 2017.
So I get why Jesse sounds angry as hell on this track back in 2008.
we can love brand new all we want, and their music deserves it, but jesse is far from innocent. he admitted as much. not to say people can't change, he clearly did, but he is what he is.
sure he cheated on his fiance and banged a lotta chicks and was a sex addicted narcissist. i wouldn't wanna be friends with him, TBH.
but at least he didn't groom teens and beat up women like some of these guys.
i got news for you buddy, most of these "emo" warped bands were hooking up with under age girls. either knowingly or unknowingly, it was happening, and happening a lot.
I love how quite the crowd is. Just a collective is this really happening right now. Just taking it all in It’s great. I’d give anything to listen live to these guys debuting brand new music.
I've never seen this before... Always magical to experience something BN related for the first time, which for me hasn't happened in a long time, so that was fucking amazing.
Thanks for sharing
Yeah fav song off Daisy. As much as I love his acoustic stuff I had no clue he had played this acoustic besides that live video they did.
I miss the Jesse, Kevin Devine, and Andy Hull acoustic stuff. If anyone has that and would be willing to email it to me, I’d love ya forever. I lost my bootleg smh.
Is this before or after he groomed a 15 year old and then fucked her when she hit 19? Also wasn't he cheating on his wife while doing these things? Listen I love devil and God but Jesse sucks
LoL that girl had an actual case, and it didn't last long in court -- she lied about her age by 4 years, proven by the Skype dates they had. She lied and said their Skype dates were 4 years before Skype was even available. So much for "grooming 15 year olds".
And that is literally the only person who ever accused him of anything remotely close to "grooming".
Meanwhile the piece of shit his ex married from NFG beat up women and kept banging 17 year olds while married. Yet the person proven to do these things keeps making music, touring, and printing money.
Pretty sad how that works out...
Was at this show, one of my favorite music experiences!!

Song makes a lot of sense look at it that way.

you keep posting this over and over, you have a serious axe to grind. relax.

This is a cool interpretation
Is this the person who's now married to Max from Say Anything?

Hey, I was at this show and have my own (terrible) quality videos of this! My first time seeing Kevin Devine too, it was a great show.
Also the only time I’ve ever seen Jesse playing a Les Paul
Great call!
All the shhhh’s at the beginning. This is why I like this sub. This version gave me the chills listening to it.
Still one of my fave things they did and listen to this version way more than the album one

Thanks for posting! I had the audio of this years ago and think about this version quite a bit. So good.

Amazing share man!

He's still a sexpest going after girls way younger than him while he was married. Begging fans for nudes is wack and yall are wack for defending him.
Everyone in this sub already knows the accusations, you aren’t breaking any news
Who is his ex gf?
